    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received a message of greetings from V. Putin, Russian president, today on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the DPRK. The message says:
    The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, an independent and sovereign state, was founded in Korea on September 9, 1948.
    Many important and significant events have since then taken place in the relations between our two countries.

    Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il and Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, received a message of greetings from Raul Castro Ruz, second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, first vice-president of the Council of State and first vice-president of the Council of Ministers, on Sept. 8 on the occasion of the 58th birthday of the DPRK. Homage Paid to Kim Il Sung

    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- Senior officials of the party, the army and the state and people from all walks of life visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace on Sept. 9 to pay homage to President Kim Il Sung on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the DPRK. Senior officials of the Workers' Party of Korea, the army and the state, chairpersons of the friendly parties, Cabinet members, deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly in Pyongyang, leading officials of the party and power organs, public organizations, ministries and national institutions entered the hall where the statue of the President stands.
    Amid the solemn playing of "Song of General Kim Il Sung", a floral basket in the joint name of the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the WPK, the DPRK National Defence Commission, the Presidium of the DPRK SPA and the DPRK Cabinet was laid before the statue.
    Written on the ribbons of the floral basket were letters "The Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung Is Immortal".
    Senior officials of the Party, the army and the state paid their respects to the statue of the President.
    They entered in humble reverence the hall where the President lies in state. They made vows to him.
    Then they walked round orders, medals, certificates of honorary titles awarded to the President in our country and from different countries, the portrait of the smiling President and bronze relievos in the Mourning Hall, a train coach he used during his on-the-spot guidance and visits to foreign countries and a car he used in the last moments of his life.
    Anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters, officials of organs at all levels and people from all walks of life visited the memorial palace.

Banquet Given in Celebration of DPRK Birthday

    Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government arranged a banquet at the People's Palace of Culture on Saturday evening in celebration of the 58th birthday of the DPRK. Present there were senior officials of the party, the army and the state, chairperson of friendly party, Cabinet members, deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly in Pyongyang, leading officials of party, military and power organs, social organizations, ministries and national institutions, anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters, officials in the fields of science, education, culture and art, public health and the press, former unconverted long-term prisoners who are the patriotic champions of reunification, heroes and heroines and persons of distinguished service. Malaysian King on Relations with DPRK

    Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- Malaysian King Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail received credentials from DPRK Ambassador to Malaysia Pak Ryong Yon on Sept. 7. Referring to the relations between the two countries that have favorably developed in recent years, the king underscored the need to explore the possibility of boosting them and develop the bilateral exchange and cooperation not only at the governmental level but at the non-governmental level.

U.S. Test-fire of Interceptor Missile under Fire in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly issued a statement titled "The U.S., stop at once its test-fire of interceptor missile targeted against the north" on September 5. Accusing the Missile Defense Agency of the U.S. Department of Defense of conducting a test-fire of an interceptor missile targeted against the DPRK on September 1, the statement noted that the test-fire indicates that the U.S. scenario to invade the DPRK has gone beyond the danger line.
    It manifested the resolution of the headquarters to stage a more dynamic nationwide struggle to defend peace and force the U.S. forces in south Korea, the root cause of a nuclear war, to quit it.

Floral Basket Sent to DPRK Embassy in Havana

    Havana, September 8 (KCNA) -- Gen. Raul Castro Ruz, first vice-president of the Council of State and minister of Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, sent a floral basket to the DPRK embassy in Havana on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the DPRK. The basket was placed before the portraits of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il at the embassy.

    Havana, September 8 (KCNA) -- Floral baskets were placed before the portraits of smiling President Kim Il Sung with due ceremony at the Organization of Solidarity of the Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America and Kim Il Sung Economic Special School in Cuba on September 6 and 7 on the occasion of the 58th birthday of the DPRK. Present there were the secretary general and members of the organization, the vice-president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, the chairman of the Cuban Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification, the rector, teaching staff and students of the special school and the DPRK ambassador and staff members of the embassy in Havana.
    The participants placed the floral baskets before the portraits and paid tribute to the President.
    The secretary general of the organization said that the participation of many people in the celebrations of the DPRK's birthday was an expression of solidarity with the Korean people, adding that the organization would always extend full support to the cause of Korea's reunification.

U.S. Oceanic Strategy for Aggression under Fire

    Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists pursue an aim of military and strategic importance to attack the anti-imperialist independent countries with oceans as theatres. This is the essence of their Asian-Pacific strategy. Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed article slamming the U.S. oceanic strategy for aggression to put the Asia-Pacific under its control.
    In their strategy of attaching importance to the Asia-Pacific aimed at realizing their world domination the U.S. imperialists regard Northeast Asia, the Korean Peninsula in particular, as their important strategic stronghold, the article notes, and goes on:
    They seek to form a front against the anti-imperialist independent countries including the DPRK on the seas linking Japan, south Korea, etc. and deploy naval forces equipped with nukes in a bid to blockade straits, mount preemptive nuclear attacks on them and, furthermore, conduct landing operations against them.
    They intend to use Japan and south Korea bounded on three sides by the sea as important bases for carrying out their oceanic strategy from which to launch aggression against the continent.
    The spearhead of the oceanic strategy pushed forward by the U.S. imperialists in the Asia-Pacific is directed to the Korean Peninsula at present.
    The DPRK is the main theatre of the global military and political confrontation at present. This is because the U.S. made the DPRK a principal target of the U.S. strategy for world domination, its conception of building a unipolar world. It is a strategic goal of the U.S. to start another Korean war in the 21st century come what may in a bid to seize the peninsula. The Korean Peninsula is the area where the interests of its neighboring big powers are intertwined.
    Once a war breaks out on the peninsula these countries will not remain passive onlookers to it. In case of a crisis on the peninsula the response of these countries to it will be bound to affect the development. In a word, the second Korean war to be provoked by the U.S. imperialists would mean a new world war. Their oceanic strategy is being pushed forward according to this war scenario.
    The situation on the peninsula and the rest of the Asia-Pacific is getting tenser due to the reckless war moves of the U.S. imperialists.
    The peace-loving people of Asia and the rest of the world are called upon to see through the sinister aim pursued by their oceanic strategy and wage a positive struggle to frustrate it.

National Day Celebrated

    Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- The 58th founding anniversary of the DPRK was significantly celebrated on Saturday. The fourth national agricultural workers' contest in dancing to peasant music was held in the Rungrado Recreation Ground in Pyongyang. It was strong in national flavor.
    A dancing party of members of the Korean Democratic Women's Union was held in the plaza of the Tower of the Juche Idea.
    Art performances were given at theatres in the capital and local areas.
    The revolutionary drama "Blood at an International Conference" was performed by artistes of the State Theatrical Company at the State Theatrical Theatre, a performance "May Country Prosper" by artistes of the Mansudae Art Troupe at the Ponghwa Art Theatre and a performance by artistes of the State National Art Troupe at the Central Youth Hall. Concerts were staged by artistes of the State Symphony Orchestra and the brass band of the Yun I Sang Music Institute at the Moranbong Theatre and the Yun I Sang Concert Hall.
    Acrobatic performances were given at the Pyongyang Circus Theatre and the Circus Theatre of the Korean People's Army.
    Provincial art troupes also presented their performances to delight working people and youths and students in North Phyongan Province, Ryanggang Province, Kangwon Province and other provinces marking the national day.
    People from all walks of life across the country spent the holiday with diverse cultural and sports events.
    Merry singing and laughter of working people and school youth and children were heard all day long from the cultural and recreation grounds in Pyongyang which have been spruced up such as the holy place of revolution Mangyongdae, Moran Hill and the Rungrado Recreation Ground.
    An art performance of workers and trade union members of provincial level institutions was given in Chongjin City, North Hamgyong Province, and art performances of members of women's union organizations in Ryanggang Province and South Phyongan Province took place in Hyesan and Phyongsong respectively.
    Agricultural workers in Hamhung City, South Hamgyong Province, had a football match, a volleyball match, a contest in dancing to peasant music and so on.

Ore Dressing Plant Commissioned

    Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- A ceremony of commissioning the ore dressing plant of the Ryonghung Mine was held on the spot Saturday. It was attended by Paek Hyon Bong, chairman of the Korean Committee for the Promotion of Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries, officials concerned and officials and employees of the mine.
    Also present were members of the delegation of the Chinese Guangshou Group Co., Ltd. headed by Director General Huang Guoqing.

    Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received a gift from the director-general of the International Institute of the Juche Idea on a visit to the DPRK. The gift was conveyed to an official concerned on Saturday by Director-General Vishwanath.

Anti-U.S. Rally Held in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration reportedly held an "anti-U.S., anti-war rally to force the U.S. troops out of south Korea 61 years after their occupation" in Seoul on September 6. Displayed in the venue were posters denouncing the U.S. war drills against the north and the materialization of the "strategic flexibility" of the U.S. troops in south Korea and indicting them for criminal acts.
    At the rally speakers condemned the U.S. troops for standing in the way of the Korean nation's movement for reunification and scheming to permanently occupy south Korea after they stepped in this land under the signboard of "liberator."
    The present reality, in which the relocation of the U.S. troops and the expansion of their bases in south Korea are in full swing in parallel with the unabated U.S. hostile policy towards the north, more deeply convinces the people from all walks of life of the importance and urgency of the struggle to drive the U.S. troops out of south Korea.

Struggle against FTA Declared

    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- Men of culture and artistes affiliated to the solidarity council for the world organization of culture reportedly held a press conference in Seoul on September 5 and vowed to wage the struggle against the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. "Free Trade Agreement"(FTA). A declaration signed by 1,417 men of culture and artistes was read out at the press conference.
    Noting that it is the way of protecting the life of the people and defending national culture to prevent the conclusion of FTA, the declaration said that men of culture and artistes would preserve the soul of the nation through the powerful struggle.

Dignity and Might of DPRK Shining in World

    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- Though the DPRK has a small territory and population, its people have become the greatest people and the DPRK is demonstrating its dignity in the world as a powerful socialist country of Juche as they have a great leader, stresses Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. Kim Jong Il is leading the Korean revolution to victory, demonstrating the dignity and authority of Juche Korea to the world with his tested leadership, distinguished political ability and intense devotion for the people, the article says, and goes on:
    The servicepersons and people are working world-startling miracles and innovations in all parts of the country with immense readiness and determination to bring about creation and change in this land, true to the idea and leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    The marvelous changes in the DPRK are the shining fruition of his original Songun politics and Songun revolutionary leadership. The Korean people have not only defended socialism from the imperialists' vicious military blackmail and moves of aggression but made greater progress and won the fierce confrontation with them. The might of the single-minded unity of the revolutionary ranks of the DPRK has increased in every way. The DPRK has turned into an ideologically, politically and militarily strong power thanks to his wise leadership.
    A great leader is a source of a great people and a dignified country. This is the truth which the Korean people have keenly felt in pushing ahead with socialist construction, pulling through the tempest of revolution.
    Kim Jong Il is the destiny of the country, people and socialism and symbol of all victories. His Songun politics serves as the all-powerful treasured sword and invincible banner.

Greetings to Tajik President

    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Saturday sent a message of greetings to Emomali Rakhmonov, president of Tajikistan, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of its national day. The message expressed belief that the friendly relations between the two countries would develop on better terms in the interests of the peoples of the two countries.

Delegation and Delegates of Organizations for Study of Juche Idea Here

    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the Secretariat of the International Institute of the Juche Idea (IIJI) led by Secretary General Kenichi Ogami arrived here on Sept. 9 to participate in the 10th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the IIJI. On the same day, Reggie Ranatunge, director general of the Asian Regional Institute of the Juche Idea, and his party, Edmond Jouve, director general of the European Society for the Study of the Juche Idea, Matteo Carbonenli, vice-chairman of the Italian Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea, and Alva Chavez, secretary general of the Latin American Institute of the Juche Idea, and her party arrived here.

Floral Baskets Laid before Monument to Victory in Korean War

    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- Floral baskets were placed before the Monument to Victory in the Fatherland Liberation War Saturday on the occasion of the 58th birthday of the DPRK. Present at the floral basket-laying ceremony were senior officials of the Party, the army and the state, officials of the Party and power organs, working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions and working people in the city.
    Amid the playing of the floral basket-laying music a floral basket in the joint name of the Central Committee and Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea was laid before the statue "Victory," main theme of the monument.
    Then placed there were floral baskets in the name of the working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions and educational, public health and media organs and Party and power organs and enterprises in the city.

Wreaths Laid at Cemeteries

    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- Wreaths were laid at the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mt. Taesong and the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery this morning on the occasion of the 58th birthday of the DPRK. Seen on wreath-laying stands were wreaths from General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
    Present at the wreath-laying ceremonies were Party and state cadres and working people in the city.
    Wreaths were laid at the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mt. Taesong in the name of the Central Committee of the WPK, the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK and the Cabinet of the DPRK.
    A wreath was also laid at the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery in the joint name of the Central Committee of the WPK, the SPA Presidium of the DPRK and the DPRK Cabinet.
    Wreaths were laid at the cemeteries from working people's organizations, ministries, national institutions and educational, public health and the press institutions and party and power bodies, enterprises, farms, etc. in Pyongyang.
    Bouquets were laid before the bust of Kim Jong Suk, anti-Japanese war hero at the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mt. Taesong.
    Wreaths were laid before the statues of martyrs, monuments to and graves of the fallen fighters of the People's Army across the country on the same day.

Floral Baskets Laid before Kim Il Sung's Statues

    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- Floral baskets were laid before the statues of President Kim Il Sung across the country on the occasion of the 58th birthday of the DPRK. People from all walks of life, school youth and children in Pyongyang visited his statue on Mansu Hill.
    Standing before his statue was a floral basket sent by General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
    Amid the playing of the floral basket-laying music floral baskets in the name of party and power bodies, public organizations, ministries, national institutions and scientific, educational, culture and art, public health and the press institutions, factories, enterprises, farms, schools, etc. and bouquets and flowers were laid before his statue.

Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Unit

    Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected KPA Unit 1824. He congratulated the servicepersons of the unit on celebrating the DPRK's birthday with signal success in their combat and political training.
    He learned about the unit's performance of duty before watching its servicepersons' training.
    After watching the training he set forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines for bolstering the KPA as invincible revolutionary armed forces, expressing great satisfaction over the fact that all the servicepersons have grown to be a match-for-a hundred fighters.
    The hearts of all the servicepersons of the KPA are replete with the ardent love for the party, the leader, the country and the people and burning with towering hatred for the enemy, he said, adding that the country will imposingly stand as an invulnerable bulwark of socialism and our Juche-oriented revolution will win one victory after another it has such matchless ranks of fighters fully prepared politically and ideologically and in military technique.
    He took deep care of the service and living of the soldiers, going round different places of the unit.
    He was greatly satisfied to see all the entertainment, educational and supply service facilities arranged well and the compound of the barracks and their surroundings kept neat and tidy. Noting that the servicepersons of the unit have distinguished themselves in its management by following the lifestyle of the anti-Japanese guerillas, he highly appreciated their assiduous way of managing the economic life.
    He gave the servicepersons of the unit a pair of binoculars and an automatic rifle as gifts before having a photo session with them.

    Pyongyang, 9 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Con motivo del 58o aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, los cuadros del partido, el ejercito y el Estado, presidentes de los partidos amigos, miembros del Consejo de Ministros, diputados a la Asamblea Popular Suprema en esta capital, funcionarios directivos de los organismos del partido y el Poder, entidades sociales, ministerios y organos centrales y los habitantes de distintos sectores rindieron tributo el dia 9 al Presidente Kim Il Sung en el Palacio Memorial Kumsusan. Mientras se interpretaba solemnemente las melodias de la "Cancion del General Kim Il Sung", fue depositado un cesto de flores a nombre comun del Comite Central y la Comision Militar Central, del PTC, el Comite de Defensa Nacional, el Presidium de la Asamblea Popular Suprema y el Consejo de Ministros, de la RPDC.

Cestos de flores ante estatuas de bronce de Kim Il Sung

    Pyongyang, 9 de septiembre (ATCC) -- En ocasion del 58o aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratita de Corea, fueron depositados cestos de flores ante las estatuas de bronce del Presidente Kim Il Sung en esta capital y distintas localidades del pais. Los habitantes de distintos sectores y jovenes y ninos escolares de esta capital acudieron a la estatua de bronce del Presidente en la colina Mansu.
    Ante ella estaba colocado un cesto de flores enviado por el Dirigente Kim Jong Il, Secretario General del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y Comandante Supremo del Ejercito Popular de Corea.
    Mientras se interpretaba la musica de la ocasion, fueron puestos los cestos, ramos y ramitas de flores a nombre de los organismos del partido y el Poder, entidades sociales, ministerios, organos centrales, instituciones de ciencia, educacion, cultura y arte, salud publica, prensa e informacion, fabricas, empresas, granjas y escuelas.
    Tambien se distinguia un cesto de flores a nombre de la sucursal del Frente Democratico Nacional Antiimperialista (FDNA) en Pyongyang.
    Se realizaron semejantes actividades en las estatuas de bronce del Presidente erguidas en la Universidad Kim Il Sung, los Estudios Cinematograficos de Corea, el Palacio de Ninos y Escolares de Pyongyang y otras partes de la capital.
    Por otra parte, los habitantes, jovenes y ninos escolares de todo el pais hicieron otro tanto ante las estatuas de bronce del Presidente en sus respectivas localidades.
    Ante la estatua en la ciudad de Chongjin rindieron tributo el dia 9 al Presidente Kim Il Sung tras depositar ramos de flores ante su estatua de bronce el consul general y otros integrantes del Consulado General de la Republica Popular China acreditado en esa ciudad.
    @El mismo dia, lo hicieron tambien las delegaciones chinas que permanecen en Chonjin.

Kim Jong Il recibe mensaje de felicitacion de Putin

    Pyongyang, 9 de septiembre (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il recibio el dia 9 un mensaje de felicitacion que le dirigiera el Presidente de la Federacion Rusa, V. Putin, con motivo del 58o aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea. El mensaje senala:
    El 9 de septiembre de 1948 fue fundada en el territorio coreano la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, Estado soberano e independiente.
    Desde ese dia, se registraron innumerables eventos importantes y significativos en las relaciones entre los dos paises.
    Hoy, la amistad y la cooperacion entre Rusia y Corea se completan con nuevos contenidos y llegan a una etapa mas alta.
    Estoy seguro de que el dialogo entre nuestros Estados hara evidente contribucion al afianzamiento de la paz, la estabilidad y la seguridad de la Peninsula Coreana y el resto de Asia.

Ofrendas florales ante cementerios por 58o aniversario de RPDC

    Pyongyang, 9 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Con motivo del 58o aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, fueron depositadas el dia 9 por la manana ofrendas florales ante el Cementerio de Martires Revolucionarios en el Monte Taesong y el de Patriotas. En ambos lugares estaban colocadas las ofrendas florales enviadas por el Dirigente Kim Jong Il, Secretario General del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y Comandante Supremo del Ejercito Popular de Corea.
    En los actos participaron los cuadros del partido y Estado y los trabajadores capitalinos.
    En ambos cementerios fueron colocadas las ofrendas florales a nombre del Comite Central del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, el Presidium de la Asamblea Popular Suprema y el Consejo de Ministros, de la RPDC.
    Tambien fueron colocadas las otras a nombre de las organizaciones de masas, ministerios, organos centrales, instituciones de educacion, salud publica, prensa e informacion y los organismos del partido y el Poder, empresas y granjas en la capital.
    Fueron ofrecidos ramos de flores ante el busto de la heroina de lucha antijaponesa Kim Jong Suk en el Cementerio de los Martires Revolucionarios Antijaponeses en el Monte Taesong.
    Por otra parte, tuvieron lugar el mismo dia actos similares ante las estatuas de bronce de martires, el Monumento a los Martires del Ejercito Popular y las tumbas de martires, que se hallan en distintas localidades del pais.
