Withdrawal of U.S. Troops from S. Korea Demanded

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly made public a statement "Let us put an end to the U.S. forces' 61-year-long unjust presence in south Korea and their war moves and launch an all-out struggle for their withdrawal" on Sept. 8. The statement recalled that the history of division of the country and the nation started 61 years ago as the U.S. troops landed in south Korea for aggression and plunder. They have imposed immeasurable misfortune and pain upon the Korean people, it said, and went on:
    The U.S. is still keen on reinforcing its military "alliance" with south Korea and intensifying provocative actions for a nuclear war against the north, interference in internal affairs of Korea and the moves to perpetuate the division of the Korean nation. National independence, peaceful reunification and national prosperity can never be achieved as long as the U.S. troops remain in south Korea.
    The struggle for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops is a starting point in the movement for peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula. All Koreans should turn out in the patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity and frustrate the U.S. war moves through a massive anti-U.S. struggle.
    On the same day, the chairperson of the National Council of Girl Student Representatives and the chairman of the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils separately issued statements calling for driving the U.S. troops out of south Korea and building an independent reunified country at an early date.

Vice-Presidents of Presidium of DPRK SPA Meet Chinese Ambassador

Kim Jong Il's Work Published in Austria

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il's work "On Preserving the Juche Character and National Character of the Revolution and Construction" was published in pamphlet by the Joseph Gebauer Publishing House in Vienna on Sept. 11. The work, brought out on June 19, Juche 86(1997), clarifies that preserving the Juche character and national character in the revolution and construction serves as a fundamental principle to be observed in accomplishing the popular masses' cause of independence and their cause of socialism and it is the unshakable faith and will of the Workers' Party of Korea and the people of the DPRK to step up socialist construction and achieve national reunification and progress and development of the country by preserving the Juche character and the national character.
    The pamphlet in its preface highly praises the feats performed by President Kim Il Sung in party construction, noting that the WPK is now demonstrating its honor as a guiding force leading popular masses' cause of independence and their cause of socialism to victory under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

DPRK's Birthday Marked at Its Diplomatic Missions Abroad

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- Receptions, film shows, book and photo exhibitions and friendship meetings were held at the DPRK missions in Beijing, Moscow, Ulan Bator, Kuala Lumpur, Rome, Paris, Tashkent, Warsaw, Sofia, Addis Ababa and Tarabulus and the permanent mission of the DPRK at the United Nations from Sept. 4 to 8 on the occasion of its 58th birthday. On Display in the venues of the functions were works of the great persons of Mt. Paektu, photos showing their Songun leadership exploits and noble virtues and those introducing the history of the DPRK.
    Participants of the film shows watched Korean films including "The Brilliant History of the Great Leadership."
    The vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia at a reception warmly congratulated the friendly Korean people on their 58th national day.
    After watching a Korean film, the vice-chairman of the youth organization of the Malaysia Chinese Association said he was deeply impressed by the undying exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung for the country's prosperity and people's happiness and the noble spiritual world of the Korean people holding him in high esteem as the eternal President of the DPRK.
    After looking round photos on display the general secretary of the Unified Communist Party of Italy said that the DPRK is now wining victory after victory under the wise guidance of Kim Jong Il.
    The delegate president of the France-Korea Friendship Association and the chairman of the Anti-Imperialist Front of France, addressing a reception, said that the imperialists are afraid of the guts and courage, the confidence and will of Kim Jong Il, a great man born of Heaven, to win a sure victory.
    The minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Ethiopia, addressing a reception, expressed the belief that the DPRK would always emerge victorious in the standoff with the U.S. The Lao representative at the UN, after seeing photos displayed in the venue of a function, said that he was convinced that the DPRK's source of all its victories lies in the strength of all the Korean people united close around Kim Jong Il.

Kim Il Sung Lauded by Foreign Figures

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- Seminars on the feats President Kim Il Sung performed in the nation-building were held in Syria and Uganda and by the British Association for the Study of Songun Policy in the period from September 4 to 7 on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the DPRK. Speakers highly praised the undying feats the President performed by founding the DPRK and turning it into a socialist powerful nation, independent in politics, self-supporting in economy and self-reliant in national defence.
    The managing editor of the Syrian newspaper Al Usubuu Al Riadih in a speech said that the President accumulated precious experience in building the genuine people's power in the early period of his anti-Japanese armed struggle and, on this basis, built the people's country, the first of its kind in the history of Korea after its liberation.
    The chief of the Group for the Study of the Juche Idea of Comrade Kim Il Sung of Old Kampala Higher Middle School of Uganda and Justin Keyune, chief of the Group for the Study of Songun Politics of Kampala Coloro Higher School, in their speeches said that the DPRK is triumphantly advancing along the road chosen by itself because it is guided by the Juche idea. They evinced their resolution to intensify the study and dissemination of the Juche idea.
    Dermot Hudson, chairman of the British Association for the Study of Songun Policy, in a speech noted that the DPRK is imposingly standing as the country of Songun under the wise guidance of Kim Jong Il and registering big successes, shattering all the moves of the U.S. imperialists to isolate and stifle the DPRK.
    Meanwhile, Garib Newaz, president of the Bangladesh People's League who is chairman of the Bangladesh Self-Reliance Research Center, and Mohamed T. National Scientific Symposium Marks Diamond Jubilee of Kim Il Sung University

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- A national scientific symposium of the scientific and educational field took place at Kim Il Sung University between September 12 and 14 to mark the 60th anniversary of the university. Present there were Kim Yong Jin, minister of Education, Thae Hyong Chol, president of the Academy of Social Sciences, officials concerned and teachers and researchers of scientific and educational institutes from across the country.
    The symposium heard the papers titled "It is essential for building a great prosperous powerful nation in the Songun era to further strengthen and develop Kim Il Sung University as a strong centre for science study and education", "Respected Comrade Kim Jong Il is great leader of the scientific, technological and educational development in the 21st century" and so on.
    Underscoring the need to consolidate Kim Il Sung University as a strong centre for science study and education, the speakers added that this is urgently required for decisively raising the nation's overall level of education as required by the new century to train competent revolutionary intellectuals who would fulfill their commitments to accomplish the cause of building a great prosperous powerful nation with high caliber in the era of Songun.
    They called for reinforcing the comprehensive study centers for the scientific and technological development and establishing a revolutionary habit of scientific research at the university to make a positive contribution to propelling the scientific and technological development of the country.
    The speakers recalled the fact that Kim Jong Il has always shown deep care for the development of science and technology and education true to the noble intention of President Kim Il Sung.     The participants heard at least 1,640 papers dealing with the research successes made in recent years in various fields including social science and ultra-modern science and technology.

National Scientific Symposium of Koryo Medical Field

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- A national scientific symposium of Koryo medical field on the extraction and normalization of Koryo medicine took place at the Grand People's Study House and the Academy of Koryo Medical Science on September 13 and 14. Technical lectures titled "On some problems arising in making the extractant of Koryo medicine" and "On some technical matters arising in the normalization of the extraction of Koryo medicine" were given at the symposium.
    The symposium heard over 20 papers reflecting achievements made by pharmaceutical scientists and technicians of Koryo medicine in researches for the extraction and normalization of Koryo medicine.
    Highly estimated were the papers "Study on the quality normalization of the extraction of peony roots", "Study of preparation of medicinal decoction on the basis of the activated character of Koryo medicine containing saponin" and "Study of preparation of Tansam gingko injection", which are of weighty significance in the extraction and normalization of Koryo medicine.
    Among them were the papers "Experience gained in treatment of chronic enteritis and colistis by Sambaek pills" and "Study of preparation of Omija stenocardia tincture and its effect of treatment of stenocardia" which academically proved the advantages of Koryo medicine by clarifying the clinical effect of preparation of extractants of Koryo medicine.
    Experience gained in the process of improving Koryo medical service was exchanged at the symposium.

Russian Orchestra Gives Premiere

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- The "Russian Spirit" Orchestra on a visit to the DPRK gave premiere at Ponghwa Art Theatre on September 14. It was appreciated by Choe Chang Il, vice-minister of Culture, officials concerned and creators and artistes in the section of culture and art.
    It was also seen by Andrei Karlov, Russian ambassador, and staff members of the Russian embassy here.
    The orchestra put on the stage solos, dances, instrumental music and other colorful numbers representing the national feelings of the Russian people.
    Russian people's actress Lyudmila Nikolaeva, head of the orchestra, in solos "Moscow of Golden Dome", "Waves of Love", "White Willow Flower" and "Snowflakes on Dried Maple Leaves", etc., vividly showed the Russian people's ardent love for the motherland and the beauty of nature with her rich voice and high skill.

National Forum on Intellectual Property Held

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- A national forum on intellectual property was held at the People's Palace of Culture on Sept. 13 and 14. Present there were leading officials of the DPRK Invention Office and officials in the field of invention and a delegation of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) headed by Gao Hang, deputy dean of the WIPO Worldwide Academy.
    Kim Il Hyok, general director of the Invention Office, said at the forum that the current forum provided the office with a good environment for increasing the role of intellectual property in the economic development and deepening the social understanding of this field.

Highly Efficient Mortar Waterproof Agent Developed

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering has developed a new kind of highly efficient mortar waterproof agent. The agent is made with silica gel powder of special structure, the average particle size of which is 3 to 8 micrometers.
    It has been applied to underground structures, dams, waterways, liquid tanks (acid, alkali and salt), swimming pools, bath-houses and dwelling houses for years. The results show its great technical and economic advantages.
    It, natural inorganic material, has no aging as compared with an organic matter and its serviceable life is equal to cement.
    The waterproof agent powder is mixed with cement or with cement and sand at a certain rate to plaster and brush the objects two-five millimeters thick.
    It is economically profitable as it is simple to apply and its cost is incomparably lower than other kinds of waterproof agents.
    The silica gel powder is a good rust-proof agent and rubber additive. Having various kinds of microelements, it is also used as an animal feed additive and a plant growth promoter.

S. Korean Authorities Urged to Stop Dancing to Tune of Outsiders

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- The desire of all Koreans for reunification is growing stronger thanks to the idea of "By our nation itself", but the inter-Korean relations fail to keep pace with it due to the south Korean authorities who are dancing to the anti-DPRK tune of the outside forces instead of taking a national stand. Rodong Sinmun Friday says this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
    If the south Korean authorities continue cooperating with the foreign aggressor forces, while remaining hostile to the fellow countrymen, the inter-Korean relations can not but take the road of confrontation, far from improving.
    The cooperation with the outside forces pursued by some members of the Korean nation is nothing but a revelation of the hostile policy toward other compatriots keen to solve the issue of reunification.
    The U.S., which the pro-U.S. forces in south Korea regard as "a friendly country", is a cancer-like entity standing in the way of carrying out the Korean nation's cause of independent reunification. The U.S. imperialists are strongly opposed to the efforts of the north and the south to achieve independent reunification through reconciliation and cooperation.
    The pro-U.S. forces in south Korea, however, are clinging to the U.S. apron-strings, not yet away from their illusion about the U.S., the aggressor.
    The south Korean authorities are destroying the very foundation for the development of inter-Korean relations by toeing the U.S. hostile policy toward the north.
    The cooperation with the outside forces precisely means the negation of the historic June 15 joint declaration.
    It is preposterous to say something about the improvement of the inter-Korean relations now that the joint declaration is openly disregarded.
    The cooperation with the outside forces is driving the inter-Korean relations to an uncontrollable catastrophe.
    The U.S. imperialists have reached the worst phase in their criminal moves to harm and invade the DPRK.
    South Korea, prodded by the outside forces, is joining in the racket to put international pressure upon the north and backing those forces in the sanctions against it, quite contrary to the interests of the Korean nation.
    The cooperation with the outside forces leads to inter-Korean confrontation and war against the north.

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Thursday sent a message of greetings to Mexican President Vicente Fox Quesada on the occasion of the day of the proclamation of Mexican independence. The message wished the Mexican people prosperity and well-being, expressing the belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would continue to develop favorably in mutual interests.

S. Korean Military Bellicose Forces' Provocative Moves for War under Fire

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland in a statement released on Sept. 15 bitterly denounced the provocative war preparations of the south Korean military bellicose forces as very dangerous treacherous moves to bring the dark clouds of war to hang over this land, pursuant to the U.S. scenario for a new war. It went on:
    The south Korean military bellicose forces are busy building a "mechanism to command and control a big firing battle," setting up a new "command for guided shells" and developing ultra-modern weapons of various types including unmanned bomber and becoming evermore frantic in the introduction of ultra-modern military equipment and weapons including "massive direct striking bombs" and F-15K fighters from the U.S. under the signboard of "building of deterrent against the north."
    This is arousing serious concern among all Koreans as this dangerous arms build-up indicates that the south Korean military bellicose forces are putting spurs to the preparations for a war against the north after making it an established fact.
    The reality clearly proves that they are not only serving the U.S. in its moves to stifle the north and start a war against it but acting as a dangerous accomplice in its scenario and whetting their swords to hurt their fellow countrymen, while pursuing a sinister aim with lip-service to "reconciliation" and "peace".
    Their behavior is an unpardonable perfidy to the June 15 joint declaration and a blatant challenge to the aspiration and desire of the Koreans for peace and the reunification of the country.
    We will never remain a passive on-looker to their frantic preparations for a war against the north but strongly react to them.

DPRK Young Soccer Team Defeats Tajik Team

    Pyongyang, September 15 (KCNA) -- The DPRK young football team defeated the Tajik team 3:0 in the semi-finals to advance to the finals of the U-17 Asian Championships now under way in Singapore since Sept. 3. The DPRK team will face the Japanese team in the finals on Sept. 17.

    Pyongyang, 15 de septiembre (ATCC) -- La editorial Joseph Gebauer en Viena dio a luz el dia 11 en folleto la obra del Dirigente Kim Jong Il "Para mantener el espiritu Juche y la nacionalidad en el proceso revolucionario y constructivo", publicada el 19 de junio del 86 (1997) de la Era Juche. La obra se refiere a que mantener el espiritu Juche y la nacionalidad en la revolucion y la construccion es el principio fundamental que debe sostenerse en el cumplimiento de la causa de la independencia de las masas populares, la del socialismo y a que mantener y materializar el espiritu Juche y la nacionalidad, acelerar la construccion del socialismo y lograr la reunificacion de la patria y su enriquecimiento es la inconmovible conviccion y voluntad del Partido del Trabajo de Corea (PTC) y el pueblo coreano.

Simposio por el 60o aniversario de fundacion de Universidad Kim Il Sung

    Pyongyang, 15 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Tuvo lugar del dia 12 al 14 en la Universidad Kim Il Sung el simposio nacional de la rama de ciencia y educacion por el 60o aniversario de la fundacion de este plantel docente. Participaron el ministro de Educacion Kim Yong Jin, el presidente de la Academia de Ciencias Sociales Thae Hyong Chol y otros funcionarios, profesores e investigadores de los organos cientificos y educacionales de todo el pais.
    En el foro fueron publicadas las disertaciones intituladas "Fortalecer la Universidad Kim Il Sung como poderosa base de ciencia y educacion es la demanda indispensable de la construccion de una gran potencia prospera en la epoca del Songun (priorizacion militar)", "El estimado camarada Kim Jong Il es el gran Dirigente del desarrollo de la educacion cientifica y tecnica en el siglo XXI", etc.

    Pyongyang, 15 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Tuvo lugar los dias 13 y 14 en el Palacio Cultural del Pueblo el simposio nacional sobre la propiedad intelectual. En el foro participaron los funcionarios directivos de la Direccion General de Invenciones (DGI) de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y otros de esta rama, y la delegacion de la Organizacion Mundial de la Propiedad Intelectual encabezada por Gao Hang, vicepresidenta de la Academia Mundial de Ciencias de esta organizacion.
    Al hacer uso de la palabra Kim Il Hyok, director general de la DGI, dijo que el presente simposio permitio a su organo preparar un ambiente favorable para elevar el papel de la propiedad intelectual en el desarrollo economico y elevar a una etapa mas alta la cognicion social sobre este dominio.
