Kim Yong Nam Calls for NAM's Increased Role

    Havana, September 16 (KCNA) -- The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) should put up collective actions against the arbitrary and high-handed practices of a specified country and take more practical measures to establish a new and fair international order. Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, said this on Sept. 16 at the 14th NAM summit now under way in Havana.
    He went on:
    Over the past 45 years since the declaration of its birth the NAM has served as a banner for the developing countries in their struggle to build an independent and peaceful world based on justice and made a great contribution to the process of transforming the world.
    The desire and aspiration of humankind after the just and peaceful 21st century are still facing serious challenges.
    The international order is disturbed and peace and security in the world are seriously threatened by the high-handed acts and unilateralism of the superpower standing in the way of independent choice and development of countries and nations and the non-aligned countries have become their biggest victims.
    The U.S. has escalated all sorts of despicable moves against the DPRK since Washington singled out it as part of "an axis of evil", a target of preemptive nuclear attack, invariably pursuant to its hostile policy towards Pyongyang.
    The grave situation where DPRK's security and interests are exposed to the U.S. threat to mount a nuclear attack on it compelled it to take an option to have access to nuclear weapons as deterrent for self-defence.
    The government of the DPRK declared more than once that it will feel no need to keep even a single nuke when it is not exposed to the U.S. threat any longer after it has rolled back its hostile policy towards Pyongyang and confidence has been built between the two countries.
    The nuclear issue between the DPRK and U.S. can be finally resolved only if the U.S. respects the sovereignty and option of the former and makes a switchover from its hostile policy to a policy of peaceful coexistence and basically remove all the nukes and nuclear war threat from the Korean Peninsula and its vicinity.
    The present international situation requires the NAM to increase its position and role as an independent political force representing the South.
    It is our view that the summit should pay a special attention to the following points in setting out the orientation of the NAM's activities to cope with the prevailing situation:
    Firstly, the NAM should invariably remain true to its noble idea and principle.
    Secondly, the NAM should meet all challenges by the force of the unity and solidarity.
    Thirdly, the NAM should put main emphasis on categorically rejecting the double standards in the international relations and ensuring the strict adherence to the principle of equality and impartiality.
    The government of the DPRK will as ever perform its responsibility and role in the efforts to achieve the human cause of independence and the growth of the NAM.

Kim Yong Nam Meets Algerian President

    Havana, September 17 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, in Havana on Sept. 16 met and had a talk with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika who attended the 14th NAM summit. The Algerian President, recollecting that he was received by President Kim Il Sung when he visited Korea on several occasions, said that Kim Il Sung was a veteran statesman of the world as well as the greatest leader.
    Kim Il Sung had unselfishly helped the Algerian people in their struggle for national liberation, he said, adding that Algeria would strive to further develop the friendly and cooperative relations with the DPRK.
    He expressed support for the stand of the DPRK government on national reunification.

Gift to Kim Jong Il from Fidel Castro Ruz

    Havana, September 17 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il was presented with a gift by Fidel Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, president of the Council of State and president of the Council of Ministers of Cuba. It was handed to Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, on Sunday.

DPRK Founding Anniversary Celebrated at Its Missions Abroad

    Pyongyang, September 18 (KCNA) -- Receptions, photo exhibitions, film shows and friendly gatherings took place at the DPRK missions in Vietnam, Syria, Iran, India, Pakistan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Guinea, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Britain and Peru and at the DPRK permanent missions in the UN Secretariat and international organizations from Sept. 6 to 9 to celebrate the 58th anniversary of the DPRK. Standing before the portraits of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il were floral baskets and bouquets laid by political parties, governments, ministries, organizations and public figures of relevant countries.
    On display at the venues were famous works of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and photos showing the immortal feats of their Songun leadership and introducing the might of the DPRK.
    Screened at film shows were Korean films including "The 55th Founding Anniversary of the DPRK."
    Present on invitation were political and public figures and representatives of international and regional organizations and non-governmental organizations.
    The permanent vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam said that the party, government and people of Vietnam support the Korean people in their just cause of achieving peaceful reunification of the country.
    The minister of Information and the first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria pointed out that it is the firm stand of the party and government of Syria to continue to boost the friendly relations with the DPRK.
    The director of the Bureau of External Cooperation of the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics of Iran stressed that the Iranian army will always stand with the armed forces of the DPRK in the anti-U.S. struggle.
    The chairman of the New Left Movement of Peru said that it is the result of Kim Jong Il's Songun politics that the banner of socialism is fluttering more powerfully in Korea where the U.S. imperialists' strong-arm policy and arbitrary practice are getting undisguised. The Songun politics is the banner of sure victory in accomplishing the cause of socialism, he stressed.

Symposia on Juche Idea and Songun Policy Held Abroad

    Pyongyang, September 18 (KCNA) -- Symposia on the Juche idea and Songun politics took place at Callao National University of Peru, the Group for the Study of the Juche Idea of Teachers of the Normal College Faculty of Chambogo University of Uganda and the Kazak Association for Studying and Disseminating the Juche Idea Named after Comrade Kim Jong Il from Sept. 6 to 11 on the occasion of the 58th founding anniversary of the DPRK. Roberto Carbonel Pezo, chairman of the Peru-Korea Friendship Institute for Study of the Juche Based Songun Policy, in a speech titled "Role of Songun politics" said that the Songun policy is the outstanding one which helps the Korean people to firmly defend their dignity and build a great prosperous powerful nation of Juche, ever victorious one which enables them to defeat any aggressor at one stroke. The DPRK, not a big country, has emerged a powerful country thanks to the Songun politics, an all-powerful treasured sword, he said, adding: The DPRK is a socialist country centering on the popular masses.
    The chief of the Ugandan group at a symposium on Kim Jong Il's famous work "Socialism of Our Country Is a Socialism of Our Style as the Embodiment of the Juche Idea" said that the DPRK has covered the path of victory because it has the Juche idea founded by President Kim Il Sung and enriched by Kim Jong Il as its guideline.
    He called for deeply understanding the Juche idea which crystallizes perfect guiding idea, theory and method of the present times.
    Members of the Kazak association in their speeches titled "Songun politics guarantees peace on the Korean Peninsula" and so on said that the Korean people have smashed the U.S. imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle them and firmly defended the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of the nation with the might of great Songun politics. They called for actively applying the Songun politics.
    A message of greetings to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the symposium in Kazakhstan.

Exploits of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il Lauded in Bangladesh

    Pyongyang, September 18 (KCNA) -- A joint celebration meeting was sponsored by the Left Democratic Front of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh-DPRK Friendship and Solidarity Committee in Dhaka on Sept. 8 on the occasion of the 58th founding anniversary of the DPRK. Hassanul Huq Inu, chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the National Socialist Party of Bangladesh, the chairman of the Bangladesh-DPRK Friendship and Solidarity Committee, and other speakers noted that President Kim Il Sung successfully accomplished the cause of the building of the state after leading the great anti-Japanese war to victory and General Secretary Kim Jong Il, while successfully carrying forward the President's revolutionary cause, is wisely leading the Korean people in their struggle to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation by his Songun politics.
    Socialism of the DPRK is a pattern for the world people in building a new society, they said, and stated: It is a highly important matter for the progressives to frustrate the imperialists' moves to stifle the DPRK and defend socialism. The Bangladeshi people will invariably support the Korean people in their struggle to protect the sovereignty of the country and achieve national reunification.
    A letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.
    A national celebration meeting, an art performance and a film show took place under the sponsorship of the Peruvian-Korean Institute of Culture and Friendship in Lima on Sept. 7.

Greetings to PM of St. Kitts and Nevis

    Pyongyang, September 18 (KCNA) -- Pak Pong Ju, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, sent a message of greetings to Denzil Douglas, prime minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of its independence. The message expressed the belief that the friendly relations between the two countries would be boosted in mutual interests.

S. Korean Organizations Vow to Struggle for Rights of Unionists

    Pyongyang, September 18 (KCNA) -- Different social organizations in south Korea including the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the "National Federation of Peasants Associations", the "National Professors' Union", the Solidarity for Social Progress, the Bar Association for a Democratic Society reportedly called a press conference in front of the "government" building in Seoul on Sept. 12 to declare the inauguration of a joint emergency measure committee to check the "government's" suppression of the "National Government Employees' Union." Speakers at the conference accused the "government" of threatening to close all branch offices of the union across south Korea till Sept. 22 in the wake of its forcible closure of the office of the South Kyongsang Provincial Headquarters of the union.
    It is quite natural for the government employees to have the three rights of labour guaranteed, they claimed, calling for protecting the rights without fail.

Scientists Help Promote Modernization of National Economy

    Pyongyang, September 18 (KCNA) -- The February 17 Shock Brigade of Scientists and Technicians, formed with scientists, teachers and researchers in Juche 67 (1978), takes a big share in promoting the modernization of the national economy in the DPRK. They, dispatched to hundreds of units of the socialist economic construction of the country, have applied thousands of research achievements and technical innovations to practice in collaboration with producer masses, thus making a healthy profit for the state.
    The members of the shock brigade active at the Pyongyang Rubber Factory are playing the pivotal role in renewing the production processes.
    They made devices of automatically measuring various kinds of compound materials and laid the foundation for remote-controlling all the production processes of synthetic rubber.
    The Ryongbuk Foodstuff Factory is manufacturing various kinds of bean food, enjoying popularity with the people. It owes the success to the efforts of the shock brigade.
    The factory has developed and introduced a method of extracting oil from beans without heat, remarkably improved the quality of synthetic meat and succeeded in establishing the process of making bean-curd with cooling soybean cake. It is now building the flexible bean-curd production process.
    Similar successes have been reported from textile mills in Pyongyang, Sinuiju, Sariwon and other parts of the country.
    The shock brigade members working at the textile mills are striving hard with a goal to change the looms of all the mills in the country with flexible rapier weaving looms and renovate all the production facilities.
    Those at the Pyongyang Textile Machine Plant have already finished the three-dimensional design for flexible rapier weaving loom and built a one-ton class low-frequency induction furnace, extending the serviceable life of the furnace four to five times and raising productivity 1.5 times as compared with the old one.

Meeting Held to Mark Anniversary of Kim Il Sung's Work

    Pyongyang, September 18 (KCNA) -- A meeting took place at the Central Workers' Hall in Pyongyang on Sept. 18 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of President Kim Il Sung's famous work "Let Us Expose and Smash the Reactionary Manoeuvres of the US Imperialists". Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and vice-chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, made a report at the meeting.
    Kim Il Sung in his historic concluding speech made at the Sixth Meeting of the Central Committee of the Democratic National United Front of North Korea clarified the steadfast anti-U.S. stand to wage a vigorous struggle against the U.S. military government in south Korea, noting that all Koreans should not allow themselves to be reduced to slaves of the U.S. imperialists, the reporter said, and continued:
    After the publication of the work, the President consistently held fast to the principle of national independence, the line of one Korea and led on his own initiative the movement for national reunification. He set forth the three principles of national reunification, the 10-point program for the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo.
    Kim Jong Il formulated the above-said principles, program and proposal set forth by the President as the three charters of national reunification. Kim Jong Il provided the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, thus bringing about a decisive phase of national reunification. He has also smashed the U.S. imperialists' every move to stifle the DPRK under the uplifted banner of Songun, thereby protecting the destiny of the country and the nation and opening up a broad vista for national unity and reunification.
    Noting that now is the time to put an end to the U.S. imperialists' history of aggression against the Korean nation and interference in the latter's internal affairs, the reporter called on all Koreans in the north, the south and overseas to turn out as one in the anti-U.S. struggle to defend the dignity and sovereignty of the nation and achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.

NOAL debe tomar las medidas para establecer nuevo orden internacional

    Pyongyang, 18 de septiembre (ATCC) -- El Movimiento de No Alineacion debe rechazar colectivamente la arbitrariedad y el despotismo de pais determinativo y tomar las medidas mas practicas para establecer un nuevo y justo orden internacional. Asi subrayo el dia 16 Kim Yong Nam, presidente del Presidium de la Asamblea Popular Suprema de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea en la XIV Cumbre de los Paises No Alineados que tiene lugar en Cuba.
    Durante los 45 anos que datan de su fundacion, el NOAL sirvio de la bandera de la lucha de los paises en vias de desarrollo para construir un mundo independiente, pacifico y justo e hizo gran aporte al proceso de transformacion del mundo, enfatizo el orador y continuo:
    La aspiracion de la humanidad al XXI siglo justo y pacifico tropieza como antes con serios desafios.
    Por el despotismo y el unilateralismo de la superpotencia que impide la opcion y desarrollo independientes de los paises y naciones se destruye el orden internacional, se ven amenazadas gravemente la paz y la seguridad del mundo y los paises no alineados se hacen victimas mayores de ellos.
    EE.UU., al practicar invariablemente la politica hostil a la RPDC, la define como "eje del mal" y blanco de ataque preventivo nuclear ampliando de manera escalonada viles maniobras de toda indole.
    Bajo tal situacion tirante en que debido a la amenaza nuclear de EE.UU. corren serio peligro la seguridad y los intereses del Estado, nos vemos obligados a optar la posesion nuclear como fuerza de detencion autodefensiva.
    El gobierno de la RPDC declaro mas de una vez que no sentira la necesidad de poseer un arma nuclear en caso de que EE.UU. deje de hostilizarla y, por la creacion de la confianza entre EE.UU. y la RPDC no exista la amenaza del primero a la segunda.
    El problema nuclear entre ambos paises se solucionara definitivamente solo cuando EE.UU. respete la soberania y la opcion de Corea, cambie su politica hostil por la de coexistencia pacifica y elimine radicalmente todas las armas nucleares y la amenaza de guerra nuclear en la Peninsula Coreana y su periferia.
    La actual situacion internacional demanda que el NOAL fortalezca su posicion y papel de fuerza politica independiente que representa el Sur.
    Consideramos que a fin de trazar la orientacion de actividades del NOAL bajo la situacion actual la presente reunion debe prestar atencion particular a los siguientes problemas:
    Primero, el NOAL debe mantener invariablemente sus nobles ideales y principios.
    Segundo, el NOAL debe rechazar con el poderio de la unidad y cohesion todos los desafios.
    Tercero, el NOAL debe rechazar categoricamente la pauta de doble rasero en las relaciones internacionales y hacerse gran hincapie en observar estrictamente el principio de igualdad y equidad.
    En el futuro tambien, el gobierno de la RPDC hara toda su responsabilidad y papel para realizar la causa de independencia de la humanidad y fortalecer y desarrollar el NOAL.

Kim Yong Nam envia mensaje al presidente chileno

    Pyongyang, 18 de septiembre (ATCC) -- El presidente del Presidium de la Asamblea Popular Suprema de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, Kim Yong Nam, envio el dia 15 un mensaje de felicitacion a Michelle Bachelet, presidente de la Republica de Chile, en ocasion del Dia de Independencia de este pais sudamericano. 　El remitente expresa conviccion de que los lazos de amistad y cooperacion entre los dos paises se ampliaran y se desarrollaran en varias esferas y le desea de todo corazon al destinatario mayores exitos en su labor responsable para la prosperidad del pais y el bienestar del pueblo.

Varios paises: simposio sobre idea Juche y politica de Songun

    Pyongyang, 18 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Con motivo del 58 aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, el simposio sobre la idea Juche y la politica de Songun (priorizacion militar) tuvo lugar del dia 6 al 11 en la Universidad Nacional de Callao del Peru, el Grupo de Estudio de la Idea Juche de los profesores de la facultad pedagogica de la Universidad de Chambogo de Uganda y la Asociacion de Estudio y Divulgacion de la Idea Juche "Camarada Kim Jong Il" de Kazakhstan, respectivamente. 　Roberto Carbonel Pezo, presidente del Instituto de Amistad Peru-Corea para el Estudio de la Politica de Songun del Juche, en su intervencion intitulada "Papel de la Politica de Songun", senalo que esta es la destacada politica que permite al pueblo coreano defender firmemente su dignidad y construir una gran potencia prospera del Juche y es invencible politica que hace frustrar de un solo golpe cualesquier enemigos y subrayo que Corea, aunque es pequena, se ha convertido en una potencia al contar con la politica de Songun, remedio omnipotente y es el pais socialista centrado en las masas populares.

    Pyongyang, 18 de septiembre (ATCC) -- La Casa de Edicion y Divulgacion Sedi del Congo Democratico dio a luz en folleto la obra maestra del Dirigente Kim Jong Il "La Filosofia Juche es una original filosofia revolucionaria". 　El titular de la Casa, al hacer uso de la palabra en la ceremonia de publicacion efectuada el dia 8, senalo que se siente muy honrado de que con motivo del 58 aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, dio a luz la imperecedera obra clasica del Dirigente Kim Jong Il, gran maestro de la idea y la teoria.
