Japan's Moves to Grab Tok Islet Condemned

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- Japan even in its "defence white paper for 2006" absurdly claimed that Tok Islet is part of its territory, a clear indication of its evermore frantic moves to stage a comeback to Korea. This only betrays Japan's brigandish and shameless nature. Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
    No one can vouch that there will be no military clash over Tok Islet, given the Japanese reactionaries' evermore undisguised moves to grab the islet.
    Lurking behind their moves is a sinister intention to provide a military guarantee for the unlimited profits of the Japanese monopoly capital that has grown more inflated than ever before in the new century.
    Japan's economy has now swollen to a maximum extent. In order to get rid of this quagmire, Japan is making desperate efforts to put under its control sea lanes for grabbing new areas rich in raw materials and exploring new markets and secure more areas of resources badly needed for it. That is why the Japanese militarists have set their eyes on Tok Islet rich in such resources as natural gas.
    Tok Islet is also very important from a military point of view. It is the calculation of Japan that its seizure of the islet would make it possible for it to turn vast waters of the East Sea of Korea into its economic waters and zone for the military operation of its "Self-Defence Forces" by exercising the right to 200 mile economic waters. It is in pursuance of this aim that the crafty Japanese militarists deliberately sparked off a territorial dispute, absurdly asserting that the islet is part of their territory.
    Their persistent claim to Tok Islet is also intended to launch the reinvasion of Korea under the pretext of retaking "its land." Their moves to grab the islet are nothing but a prelude to staging a comeback to Korea.
    Japan's assertion that the islet is part of its territory can never be justified. The more vociferously Japan advocates its claim to the islet, the more saliently it will reveal its ambition to grab other's land and its wicked scheme to reinvade Korea.
    The Japanese imperialist war maniacs such as Tojo met miserable ends in the past while frantically waging the war of continental aggression in a bid to realize their "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere."
    The Japanese reactionaries would be well advised to face up to history and the reality and awake from their foolish day dream of grabbing Tok Islet and staging a comeback to Korea.

U.S. Hostile Policy towards DPRK Slammed in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Solidarity and the People's Solidarity of south Korea called a news conference on September 18 on the occasion of the first anniversary of the adoption of the September 19 joint statement on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula at the fourth round of the six-party talks, according to a press report. A press release read out at the conference noted that though one year has passed since the adoption of the joint statement, the discord between the DPRK and the U.S. has grown more acute than ever before, adding that the U.S. is chiefly to blame for this because it has applied sanctions against the north in real earnest defying the agreement reached at the talks and staged ceaseless large-scale war maneuvers to invade the north to realize its strategy for a preemptive nuclear attack.
    Branding these moves of the U.S. as dangerous provocative acts of gravely threatening the peace on the Korean Peninsula, the press release urged the U.S. to immediately halt the U.S. sanctions against the north and roll back its hostile policy towards north as they run counter to the spirit of the joint statement.

National Symposium of Pharmacists Held

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- A national symposium of pharmacists was held here from Sept. 18 to 20 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the start of the institution of "Pharmacopoeia of the DPRK". Lectures on the "Pharmacopoeia of the DPRK" were given at the symposium.
    They referred to the establishment of certification and quality guarantee system of medical supplies and great achievements made in the field of pharmacology and called on the scientists and technicians in this field to conduct dynamic scientific researches into putting Koryo medicine on an extractive basis.
    Then followed panel discussions on Koryo medicine, pharmaceutics, composition of medicines and foodstuffs for health.
    Presented to the symposium were more than 110 papers including the development of TLC-RGB method for the quality control of Koryo medicine and study of the composition of phenazepam.
    The symposium was attended by Choe Chang Sik, vice-minister of Public Health who is chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Medical Association, and officials, scientists and technicians in the field of pharmacology.

Meeting of Servicemen and People Held to Complete Kumya River Power Station Earlier than Scheduled

    Kumya, September 20 (KCNA) -- An army-people meeting took place at the construction site of the Kumya River Power Station on Sept. 20 to thoroughly implement the instruction given by Kim Jong Il while providing field guidance to the power station construction site in September of Juche 95 (2006). Kim Jong Il clearly indicated the tasks to be undertaken to wind up ahead of schedule the construction of the Kumya River Power Station, a big hydro-power station which is of weighty importance in realizing the nation's electrification, and ways to do so.
    The reporter and speakers at the meeting referred to the measures for concentrating all efforts on the project to complete it earlier than scheduled.
    They called on all the builders of the power station to work a miracle in the construction by displaying popular heroism and total devotion in the efforts to honor the above-said instruction and thus make a tangible contribution to the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
    If a huge dam is built in the upper reaches of the Kumya River rich in water resources in South Hamgyong Province to form a big man-made lake, this will make it possible to build several power stations in tiers to produce a great deal of electricity, prevent flood damage and sufficiently supply irrigation water to the Kumya Plain.

Scientific and Technological Presentation on Natural Energies Held

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- A scientific and technological presentation on natural energies for actively searching and enlisting and effectively using energy resources was held here on Sept. 19 and 20 under the sponsorship of the Central Committee of the Korean General Federation of Science and Technology. Over 70 items of research materials and experiences were made public at the presentation which brought together scientists, technicians and working people in the field of thermal power.
    They included research papers suggesting new solutions to scientific and technological questions arising in developing and utilizing hydro power, solar energy, terrestrial heat, biological gas, etc. such as "Method of Determining Co-ordinates of Wheel Impeller Contours" and "Mock Computer Interpretation of Wheels for Tidal Power Generation".
    Presented there were results of scientific and technological researches and experiences for effectively developing and utilizing various energies and saving them and achievements in the research and introduction of different kinds of combustion devices and heat-preserving methods of heating facilities.

Korean Table-Tennis Players Prove Successful

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- Korean table-tennis players proved successful at women's singles event (under 21) of the 2006 Panasonic China "Grand Prix" held in Guangzhou, China from Sept. 14 to 17. Kim Jong defeated her rivals by overwhelming scores. She beat the Singaporean rival 4:0 in the semi-finals and the world-strong Austrian competitor 4:3 in the final to take the first place.
    Meanwhile, Jang Hyon Ae placed third at the same event.

Economic and Commercial Councilors' Corps Visits West Sea Barrage

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- The economic and commercial councilors' corps here visited the West Sea Barrage on Sept. 20 on the occasion of the 58th founding anniversary of the DPRK. The guests mounted the observatory to enjoy a bird's-eye view of the barrage, being briefed on it.
    At the end of their visit Evelio Duenas Ponce, commercial councilor of the Cuban embassy, said it is miracle that the Korean army and people built the barrage in a short span of time, upholding President Kim Il Sung's great plan for remaking nature. The Korean people, rallied close around Kim Jong Il, will surely build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation on this land, he added.
    Li Guozhang, first secretary of the Chinese embassy, said that he deeply felt the great vitality of the Korean people's self-reliance whenever he visited the barrage, an edifice of world level, built by the Korean people by their own efforts and technology. He wished them greater success in achieving prosperity of the country and accomplishing the cause of reunification.

Kim Jong Suk and Written Warranty for Good Citizen

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- The whole life of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk was associated with the ardent love for the people and comrades. The story about a written warranty for a good citizen produced during the anti-Japanese armed struggle is an epitome showing her noble humanities. President Kim Il Sung dispatched her to Taoquanli in Changbai County in the northeastern area of China in March Juche 26 (1937), where she conducted underground activities. When underground organizations and comrades stood on the brink of exposure, she risked herself to protect them and was arrested by the enemy.
    The village head who was a member of the underground organization had "friendship" with the chief of the police station. He conducted negotiations with the chief of the police station over her release. The police station chief promised that he would recognize her as a "good citizen" and release her, if the village head prepared a warranty for a good citizen signed by 500 people. He was demanding this document in order to provide documentary evidence for shirking his responsibility, if his superior called the matter into account at a later date. It was common sense that there could not have been such a large number of secret organization members in Taoquanli with only some 200 households. And it was a common, popular mentality not to seal rashly with one's thumb a document testifying that a "disturbing element", spotted as a "traitor" or "communist bandit", was in fact a "good citizen".
    But so many villagers placed without hesitation their stamps on the document for her, who regarded herself as not an educator of people but a true servant and daughter of people. They were deeply moved by her human love shown by her for the villagers. She helped them in their household chores. One day a landlord banished his young kitchen maid, suffering from typhoid, into a hut on the mountain. Nobody dared to take care of that pitiable girl. On hearing this news, Kim Jong Suk went to the hut without hesitation and nursed her, sharing bed and meals with her.
    When the village head prepared such a written warranty and put it on the chief's desk, the chief's eyes almost popped out in astonishment and had no choice but to keep his promise to release her.
    The warranty, signed by 500 seals and thumbs, was indeed a miracle.
    The Korean people will always remember the devotion and love shown by Kim Jong Suk for the fatherland and the people.

Juche-based Work Method

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung, who fathered the Juche idea, created and developed in depth the Juche-based work method in the protracted revolutionary struggle for embodying it. The method is based on the philosophical principle of the Juche idea that man is the master of everything and decides everything. The essential character of the method lies in the fact that one should always go into people and solve all the problems in reliance upon their strength and wisdom.
    The President's historical on-the-spot guidance to the Kangson Steel Works(at that time) on December 28, Juche 45(1956) was typical of the embodiment of such method.
    The situation of the country was very difficult at that time when it was going to buckle down to the first year task of the vast Five-Year Plan in the teeth of the worsening subversive activities of reactionaries at home and abroad after the Korean war.
    That day the President called a consultative meeting of leading officials and model workers in the works at which he brought the difficult situation of the country, the requirement of the revolution and the intention of the Party home to workers there and called for producing 10,000 tons of steel more than the plan.
    True to his instruction, the working class of the works turned out 120,000 tons of steel with a 60,000-ton-capacity blooming mill shattering all the antiquated ideas such as passivism and mysticism about technology and displaying the revolutionary zeal and creative ingenuity. Their efforts initiated the Chollima work-team movement which swept all over the country.
    The President, with the Juche-based work method, closely rallied the popular masses around the Party and gave rise to their revolutionary enthusiasm and creative ingenuity at each period and each stage of the revolutionary development, thus dynamically propelling the revolution and construction.

Greetings to Malian President

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, sent a message of greetings to Amadou Toumani Toure, President and head of state of Mali, on Sept. 19 on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the promulgation of the Republic of Mali. Expressing the belief that the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries would continue developing favorably in mutual interests, the message wished him greater success in his responsible work for stability of the country and welfare of the people.

Greetings to President of Armenia

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Thursday sent a message of greetings to Robert Sedrakovich Kocharyan, President of Armenia, on the 15th national day of Armenia. The message expressed the belief that the friendly relations between the two countries would develop on better terms.

DPRK Delegations Leave for Spain and Russia

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the DPRK Red Cross Society led by Jang Jae On, chairman of its Central Committee, left Pyongyang Thursday to visit Spain. It was seen off at the airport by Vice-Chairman of the Society Central Committee Paek Yong Ho and heads of the delegations of the International Committee of Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies working in the DPRK.
    Meanwhile, a delegation of the DPRK Ministry of Forestry led by Vice-Minister Pak Jae Chun left here by air to attend the 10th forestry sub-committee meeting of the committee for trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation between the governments of the DPRK and the Russian Federation to be held in Russia.

Kim Yong Nam Returns Home

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, returned home Thursday after participating in the 14th NAM Summit held in Havana. He was greeted at the airport by Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the SPA Presidium, Kung Sok Ung, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrei Karlov, Russian ambassador to the DPRK, Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, and Enrique Montoto Cruz, Cuban charge d'affaires a.i. in Pyongyang.

DPRK's Birthday Celebrated Abroad

    Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- Lectures, reading sessions, photo exhibitions and film shows took place in Peru, Malta, Austria, Nigeria and Congo from Sept. 1 to 9 on the occasion of the 58th founding anniversary of the DPRK. On display in the venues of photo exhibitions were famous works of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il and photos showing their immortal revolutionary exploits.
    Participants in the film shows watched "Brilliant History of the Great Leadership", "Great Change" and other Korean films.
    Felix Fernandez Torres, international secretary of the Revolutionary Socialist Party of Peru who is chairman of the Peruvian Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, in a lecture said that the DPRK founded and developed by the great persons born of Heaven has powerfully demonstrated its might as a socialist country centered on the popular masses, stressing the United States dares not invade the DPRK as it has strong military power.
    Erich Zavadil, chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Society for the Promotion of the Relations between Austria and the DPRK, in a lecture noted that the cause of Kim Il Sung, eternal President of the DPRK, has been successfully carried forward and accomplished by Kim Jong Il.

Rodong Sinmun critica Japon por su ambicion de usurpacion de isla Tok

    Pyongyang, 21 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Japon se esfuerza desesperadamente por usurpar la isla Tok anotando hasta en la "carta blanca de defensa para 2006" que esta isla coreana es la suya, lo cual es una muestra de su ambicion de nueva agresion a Corea que se torna cada dia mas abierta y pone al desnudo la barbaridad y el descaro de los reaccionarios japoneses. 　Asi senala el diario Rodong Sinmun en un articulo individual del dia 21 y continua:
    　Dado que se tornan cada dia mas abiertas tales maniobras, no hay ninguna garantia de que no ocurra conflicto militar en relacion con la citada isla.
    　Los reaccionarios japoneses se afanan en la labor para arrebatarla con malsana intencion de apoyar militarmente la obtencion de provechos ilimitados del capital monopolista de su pais en el nuevo siglo.
    　Hoy la economia japonesa se ha incrementado hasta no mas, razon por la cual Japon, pais insular, hace ingentes esfuerzos por apoderarse de la ruta maritima a fin de asegurar la fuente de materias primas necesarias apremiantemente y el mercado de venta de mercancias y ocupar nuevas zonas de recursos. En este contexto, los militaristas japoneses ponen sus ojos en la isla Tok porque alli yace gran cantidad de recursos naturales incluyendo gas natural.
    　Ademas, esta isla se encuentra en un punto muy importante en lo militar. Japon preve que de apoderarse de esta, pueda hacer de inmensa area del Mar Este de Corea sus aguas economicas y teatro de operacion militar de "fuerzas de autodefensa" a traves de la esfera de aguas economicas de 200 millas. Por lo tanto, los taimados militaristas nipones producen intencionalmente el conflicto territorial insistiendo obstinadamente en que la isla Tok es la "suya".
    　Con tales actos ellos intentan provocar una nueva agresion a Corea bajo el pretexto de rescatar su "territorio". Por eso, las maniobras de ellos para usurparla devienen un preludio de tal agresion.
    　Pero, la insistencia del pais isleno puede ser justificada jamas. Cuanto mas Japon insista en el "derecho a la posesion" de la isla Tok, tanto mas se revelara su ambicion de usurpacion del territorio y maligna intencion de nueva agresion a Corea.
    　En el pasado Tojo y otros maniacos de guerra de Japon se entregaron con frenesi a la guerra de agresion al continente, profesando la "esfera de coprosperidad de la gran Asia Oriental", pero al fin fueron derrotados.
    　Los reaccionarios japoneses deben justipreciar la historia y la realidad y abandonar su vana ilusion de usurpar la isla Tok y agredir de nuevo a Corea.

Simposio nacional de sector farmaceutico

    Pyongyang, 21 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Tuvo lugar del dia 18 al 20 en esta capital el simposio nacional del sector farmaceutico en ocasion del 50o aniversario del inicio de la institucion de "Farmacopea de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea". 　Ante todo, se dieron lecciones sobre la "Farmacopea de la RPDC", etc. En las cuales se subrayaron el hecho de que fue establecido el estable sistema de aprobacion y garantia de calidad de medicinas y alcanzados grandes exitos en esta rama y el problema de desplegar con vigor los cientificos y tecnicos de la rama la investigacion cientifica sobre la extraccion de medicamentos Coryo.
    　Acto seguido, se efectuaron simposios de las secciones de medicina Coryo, farmacologia, sintesis de medicinas y viveres para salud.
    　En la ocasion se publicaron mas de 110 disertaciones, entre otras, el desarrollo de TLC-RGB para la administracion de calidad de medicamentos Koryo, la elaboracion de aspirina en capsula y la investigacion sobre la sintesis de phenazapam.

Cenaculo de presentacion de ciencias y tecnicas relativas a energia natural

    Pyongyang, 21 de septiembre (ATCC) -- El Comite Central de la Federacion General de Ciencias y Tecnicas de Corea auspicio los dias 19 y 20 en esta capital el cenaculo de presentacion de ciencias y tecnicas de sector de energia natural para movilizar activamente las fuentes energeticas y usarlas con eficiencia. En el foro participaron los cientificos, tecnicos y trabajadores de sector de energia termal de todo el pais y fueron publicados mas de 70 datos de investigacion y experiencias.
    Entre ellos figuran el "Metodo de fijacion de coordenadas del perfil de paletas de turbina", "Ensayo de analisis por computadora de la turbina para la generacion de fuerza mareomotriz" y otros datos de investigacion que solucionaron los problemas cientificos y tecnicos que se presentan en usar la fuerza hidraulica, la energia solar, la geotermia, el gas biologico, etc.
    Ademas, se hallan los logros de investigacion cientifica y tecnica y experiencias para explotar, usar y ahorrar eficientemente las energias de toda indole y otros exitos alcanzados en el estudio y aplicacion de los metodos de mantenimiento del calor para varios aparatos de combustion e instalaciones de calefaccion.

Kim Jong ocupa primer lugar en el torneo internacional de ping pong

    Pyongyang, 21 de septiembre (ATCC) -- Las jugadoras coreanas lograron notas sobresalientes en el simple individual femenino (Sub-21) del Torneo Abierto de Ping Pong por "Premio Grand" de China efectuado del dia 14 al 17 en Guangzhou de este pais asiatico. Tras ganar triunfos con la diferencia abrumadora de notas en los partidos anteriores, Kim Jong vencio por 4 a 0 a la jugadora singapurena en la semifinal y por 4 a 3 a la austriaca, fuerte mundial en la final.
    Por otra parte, Jang Hyon Ae ocupo el tercer lugar en la misma disciplina.
