June 15 Association of Persons of National Literature Formed

    Mt. Kumgang Resort, October 30 (KCNA) -- The June 15 Association of Persons of National Literature was inaugurated amidst the expectation and concern of the writers and literary men in the north, the south and abroad at Mt. Kumgang Resort Monday. Present at the inaugural ceremony were a delegation of the north side headed by Kim Tok Chol, chairman of the north side's June 15 association of persons of national literature, and a delegation of the south side headed by Yom Hung Gyong, chairman of the south side's June 15 association of persons of national literature.
    Reports were made at the ceremony.
    A statute of the association was adopted and members of the co-presidium of the association were announced there.
    Then followed a meeting of the co-presidium of the north and the south of the association.
    The meeting discussed the edition and publication of "Reunification Literature", organ of the association, the institution of the "Prize for June 15 Reunification Literature" and issues arising in operating the association.
    The "evening of literature" on the theme of "June 15 era and men of national literature" took place that day.

Settlement of Crime-woven Past of Japan Urged

    Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- If Japan truly wants to build a "beautiful country," it should, first of all, make a bold political decision to settle its past full of crimes, urges Rodong Sinmun in a by-lined article Monday. It says:
    In the new century Japan is facing an important historic task to fulfill before the era and international conscience. It is to correctly settle the war crimes Japan committed in the past. Meaningless apart from it is its ballad of "building a beautiful country."
    The crimes committed by Japan against Korea and other Asian countries in the past days are the most ferocious and inhumane war crimes which must in no case be repeated in history. They are a serious political and international issue that must be strictly redeemed to the peoples who fell victims to them.
    Japan's admission of, apology for and reflection on its past crimes should be done by it of its own record, not forced by others, to gain international confidence and make a new start.
    Its apology for and reflection on its past crimes of war of aggression should be fully made through an appropriate compensation. Japan's "prosperity" and "development" can be said to have been achieved at the cost of blood and sweat of the Asian people. Japan should admit this and seek their forgiveness.
    If Japan is after "building a beautiful country," it should give up its intention to repeat the history of aggression.
    Japan is massively beefing up its aggression forces under the pretext of "coping with the situation in its surrounding region" and "security" and openly revealing its reinvasion scheme, even crying for a preemptive attack. If Japan goes on like this, a new war may be ignited by it in Asia.
    It does not stand to reason for Japan to blow hot and cold on theme of "building a beautiful country" away from the efforts for ensuring peace.

KCNA Blasts Pro-U.S. Japanese Charlatans' Shameless Anti-DPRK Moves

    Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- The new Cabinet of Japan is getting frantic in its hostile moves against the DPRK. It hastily organized a "task force on the abduction issue" the inaugural meeting of which adopted it as its policy to put "pressure" upon the DPRK. It is persisting in its actions to cancel the exemption of fixed property taxes on facilities of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). Arsons against Chongryon-related facilities are considered to be commonplace.
    No sooner had the present authorities of Japan come to power than they kicked up a noisy racket against the DPRK and Chongryon under the pretext of the "abduction issue" which had already found a solution. This is nothing but a sinister and base move of pro-U.S. charlatans to fish in troubled waters for a political purpose.
    They succeeded in seizing power by dramatizing the "abduction issue" and stoking bitterness towards the DPRK among Japanese. They are now applying the same method to stay long in power, close the ranks of conservative forces within the country and strengthen alliance with the U.S. They use the "abduction issue" as the most effective political lever and stage the anti-DPRK and anti-Chongryon racket over the issue as a means for reinforcing their rule.
    They are becoming more vociferous about the "abduction issue," dancing to the tune of the U.S. keen to stifle the DPRK over the nuclear issue. It is not surprising for them to do so as they are copying everything from the U.S. ranging from policy-making to the political system and administration.
    Such pro-U.S. flunkeys under the masks of "nationalists, " who are no more than waiting maids of the U.S. are calling for the building of "powerful Japan" and "beautiful country," claiming they shoulder upon themselves the future of Japan, They oft-repeat "they are friendly to the U.S. but not subservient to it."
    The Japanese authorities' hostile moves against the DPRK and Chongryon are an expression of their narrow-minded and clumsy national chauvinism, to all intents and purposes. This is little short of repeating the crime-woven history in the 20th century in which Japan brought untold pain and damage to the people of Korea and the rest of Asia and adding to the crimes it has already committed. These are unjustifiable.
    The above-mentioned behaviors of Japan can never go with their hope for a "beautiful country".
    The international community including the Asian people is becoming vigilant against the Japanese ruling quarters set to step up the militarization of the country and launch reinvasion under the pretext of the "abduction issue" and "threat" from outside. They gave young reckless right-wing forces a chance to come to power as they have grown up, taking poisonous substance provided by imperialists after the war.
    The new Cabinet would be well advised to drop a bad habit and take a bold decision to make a clean break with the inglorious past if it truly wishes to build a beautiful country.

Information Bulletin Released in Democratic Congo

    Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- Special issues of information bulletins were published by the People's Rally for Socialism and the National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea of Democratic Congo on Oct. 14 and 16 on the occasion of the 61st founding anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea and the 80th anniversary of the formation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union. The bulletins wrote about the immediate tasks and ultimate goal of the DIU, noting that WPK began striking its historical roots with the formation of the DIU by President Kim Il Sung on Oct. 17, 1926.
    They elaborated on the fact that the Korean revolution which started with the formation of the DIU made a long drive and the WPK has unswervingly succeeded the tradition of the DIU under the leadership of Kim Jong Il who is successfully carrying forward the idea and cause of the President.

Moves to Suppress Forces for Progressive Reforms under Fire in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon) reportedly released a statement titled "We condemn the conservative forces and public security authorities for cracking down upon the forces for progressive reforms and violating the freedom of political and ideological activities" on Oct. 26. The statement accused the "National League of New Rights," a group of conservative forces, of submitting "an indictment" to the Seoul District Public Prosecutors Office on Oct. 17 in which it charged members of the pro-reunification movement body with posting an article praising the Songun policy on its Internet homepage and urged the office to arrest and investigate them on charges of violation of the "National Security Law"(NSL).
    This prompted the public security authorities to start investigating Yun Ki Jin, chairman of the South Headquarters of Pomchonghakryon, the statement noted, branding this as an anti-reunification action running counter to the desire of the people for peace and reunification on this land and a move to eliminate the forces for progressive reforms.
    The statement continued: The majority of people in south Korea claim that the U.S. hostile policy toward the north is the main factor of the tensions on the Korean Peninsula but the anti-reunification conservatives such as the "Grand National Party" assert that even a war should not be ruled out, a grave threat to peace on this land.
    The statement expressed the will of the South Headquarters of Pomchonghakryon to stage a more dynamic struggle against the conservative forces' crackdown upon the forces for progressive reforms.

2nd National Academic Symposium on Kyongrak Held

    Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- The Second National Academic Symposium on Kyongrak took place at the Academy of Koryo Medical Science on Oct. 26 and 27 under the sponsorship of the Central Committee of the Korean General Federation of Science and Technology. Present at the symposium were researchers, doctors and teachers of scientific and educational institutions and health care organs in different parts of the country including the Academy of Koryo Medical Science, Pyongyang University of Medicine, Kang Kon Sariwon University of Medicine and Phyongsong University of Medicine.
    Made public there were several dozen papers of research results and experiences gained in the course of giving scientific answers to the real state of Kyongrak, systematizing Kyongrak theory and applying it to clinical practice.
    Attracting the interests of the participants were successes that helped toward formulating on the basis of Juche and placing on a scientific basis the Kyongrak theory, the basic theory of Koryo medical science, and experience in achieving effects in clinical treatment by stimulating main spots on the human body.
    At a closing ceremony, certificates and prizes were awarded to highly commended participants.

Rodong Sinmun on Songun Policy

    Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) --The Songun policy of the Workers' Party of Korea is a just and noble patriotic policy for guaranteeing and protecting the common interests of the nation in conformity with the independent desire and wishes of all the fellow countrymen, says Rodong Sinmun in a by-lined article Monday. It goes on:
    The Songun policy helps reliably protect the dignity and interests of the Koreans who have worked hard to achieve national reconciliation and unity and reunification under the banner of "By our nation itself" by shattering all sorts of obstructions of the reactionaries of history.
    The Songun policy of the WPK is a patriotic one for meeting the common demand and interests of the nation.
    This policy guarantees the exercise of the sovereign right of the Korean nation in the efforts to achieve national reunification.
    The policy also helps create conditions and circumstances for rejecting outsiders' interference in the cause of national reunification with the strength of the invincible army and enabling the Koreans to settle the issue of reunification according to their will and wishes.
    The Korean nation remains stronger in its independent spirit of holding aloft the banner of anti-U.S. struggle without the slightest vacillation even in face of alarming threat and blackmail of the U.S. imperialists and in its patriotic zeal and will to consolidate the foundation of national unity and reunification despite the moves of the separatists at home and abroad to perpetuate the division. All this is possible only thanks to the Songun policy which provides a sure guarantee for the cause of reunification.
    The Songun policy of the Party is one for unity as it helps strengthen the driving force for national reunification.
    It is one for national unity and reunification and patriotism as it calls for putting forward all the Koreans as an engine for achieving national reunification and increasing their role under the banner of "By our nation itself".
    Even the vicious hostile policy of the U.S. imperialists towards the DPRK will prove futile when the Koreans go united, well aware of their position as the driving force for national reunification.
    All the Koreans are heading for independent reunification under the uplifted banner of "By our nation itself" as the Songun policy protects the nation from the U.S. aggressors.
    The movement for reunification has developed into the patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and overall national unity. This reality goes to clearly prove that the Songun policy is an effective policy for unity.

U.S. Chided for Escalating Arms Race

    Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- The new "national space policy" of the Bush administration aimed at monopolizing and militarizing outer space is nothing but a dangerous attempt to revive the criminal "star wars plan," observes Rodong Sinmun Monday in a signed commentary. It goes on:
    The U.S. design to use outer space, which should be used for a peaceful purpose common to mankind, as a theatre of war is a criminal one as it threatens the very existence of humankind and obstructs the development of civilization.
    The U.S. imperialists' space weapon test is aimed at rounding off the missile complex capable of destroying other countries' satellites on orbit and space stations and the missile defense system (MD). In other words, it is designed to set up around the earth a system for destroying missiles to be fired by other countries by use of space weapons. What merits a more serious attention is that this move sparks off a fresh arms race worldwide. The U.S. reckless moves to militarize outer space are the root cause of a global arms race.
    The deployment of sophisticated weapons in outer space may entail unpredictable consequences.
    The above-said U.S. moves are absolutely intolerable as they are grave criminal acts to turn the peaceful outer space into a theatre of dangerous arms race and war and bring the danger of a new Cold War, a thermal nuclear war and thus put the very existence and security of mankind at peril.
    No specified country should be allowed to monopolize outer space. Mankind should never allow any country to use space as a military base and theatre for attacking other countries.
    The U.S. would be well advised to drop at once its criminal design to militarize outer space and use it for its purposes of aggression and war in violation of international law on the peaceful use of outer space.

U.S. and S. Korean Warmongers Flayed for Increasing Tension

    Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- The military moves shown by the U.S. imperialists jointly with the south Korean bellicose forces under the pretext of the DPRK's recent self-defensive nuclear test are, in fact, allround preparations for a nuclear war against the DPRK. They are an unpardonable provocation pushing the situation of the Korean Peninsula to an uncontrollable worst phase by bringing it to a higher pitch of strain. So states Rodong Sinmun in a commentary Monday.
    The analyst says:
    The nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula is, from A to Z, an offspring of the U.S. nuclear policy against the DPRK.
    The United States is putting spurs to the introduction of latest types of nuclear war equipment while revising and supplementing its existing war scenarios against the DPRK on an overall scale. This is a highly dangerous move to justify their nuclear arms race under the pretext of coping with the DPRK and round off their preparations for a war of aggression against it.
    Under the prevailing grave situation, the DPRK will never overlook the reckless nuclear war provocation moves of the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean bellicose forces but decisively counter them with its self-defensive deterrent forces of justice.
    In particular, it cannot tolerate in the least the foolish dream of the U.S. imperialists against its dignified political system. They should not commit rash acts but promptly abandon their provocative and harebrained plot of a nuclear war against the DPRK.
    It is a mistake, if the south Korean authorities seek to obtain a "nuclear umbrella" in reward for pro-U.S. "alliance" and war cooperation, joining the U.S. imperialists in the sanctions against the DPRK for stifling it. The master's "nuclear umbrella" will not be able to protect south Korea and, worse still, it will be a source of disaster and trouble bringing the holocaust of nuclear war. The south Korean authorities should be well aware of this and give up at once such foolish act of self-destruction as joining outside forces in the war scheme.
    Those who are fond of fire are bound to be burned to death. If the U.S. and south Korean war maniacs persist in nuclear war adventures, they can never evade the lot of destruction.

Samjiyon County Undergoes Facelift

    Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- The Samjiyon area, located in the northern part of Korea, is being facelifted more beautifully and colorfully. New kinds of street lamps are being installed in the streets of Samjiyon Township to suit the peculiarities of loop line roads, buildings and residential quarters.
    Tall lamps are being set up along Potnamu (white birch) Street and other main streets of the township and relatively low lamps being set up along the roads from around the Samjiyon Schoolchildren's Palace to the Lake Samji and the "Kapsan-Musan guard road" to blend well with forest scenery.
    Garden lamps and clutches of lamps are being installed in the areas around the Paektu Museum, the Chonji Health Complex and other monumental buildings to add beauty to the nocturnal view of the streets.
    The project started in late September.

Base Anti-North Campaign of S. Korean Public Security Authorities Assailed

    Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- The prosecution and the "Intelligence Service" of south Korea are now busy kicking up a racket of arrest and investigation against five former and incumbent leading members of the Democratic Workers' Party by invoking the "National Security Law" (NSL), charging that they "got in touch with an "operative of the north" and "are suspected of visiting the north without permission." They are crying out for spreading the dragnet of investigation, asserting that there may be in the political and opposition camps more student leader-turned politicians believed to have got in touch with operatives of the north.
    A spokesman for the National Reconciliation Council in a statement on Oct. 30 blasted the above-mentioned racket.
    The statement said:
    The hue and cry over what they called "spying case" raised by the south Korean public security authorities, linking it with the north is nothing but a premeditated fabrication and a sheer plot of the U.S. and the pro-U.S. conservative forces to eliminate the forces supporting the June 15 joint declaration in south Korea, quell the public voices hailing the nuclear test conducted by the north and fan up the consciousness of standing in confrontation with it in a bid to escalate their sanctions against the north and moves to stifle it.
    Whenever there was a political crisis in south Korea and situation got tenser on the Korean Peninsula, the U.S. and the pro-U.S. conservative forces there fabricated "spying cases" such as the "case of the People's Revolutionary Party", the "case of the Federation of Democratic Youths and Students," "East Berlin case" and the "case of the National Liberation Front in south Korea" in a bid to intensify their crackdown uponpro-reunification democratic forces and the din of confrontation with the north.
    The south Korean public security authorities applied the same trite method dating back to the era of confrontation in cooking up the above-said case, floating such lies as "admission to the Workers' Party", "oath" and "instruction" as evidence.
    Their loud-mouthed "spying case" only reminds people of the horrible nightmare in the days of the past fascist dictatorial regime.
    The pro-U.S. conservative forces would be well advised to halt the ridiculous anti-north racket which can never work on anyone as it does not deserve even a passing note.

Son maniobras muy peligrosas encaminadas a justificar su carrera armamentista nuclear y completar sus preparativos de provocacion de guerra de agresion al Norte de Corea.
    No toleraremos jamas tal temeridad de EE.UU. y las fuerzas belicosas surcoreanas y le responderemos con la justa fuerza disuasiva autodefensiva.
    No estaremos con brazos cruzados ante la temeraria intencion de EE.UU. de deshacer el digno sistema politico de la RPDC. Los yanquis deben actuar con prudencia y poner de inmediato fin a su preparacion de guerra nuclear contra la RPDC.

Rodong Sinmun condena a EE.UU. que acelera carrera armamentista

    Pyongyang, 30 de octubre (ATCC) -- La nueva "politica cosmica estatal" de la administracion Bush enderezada a realizar la apropiacion y la militarizacion del espacio es un peligroso intento de reeditar el plan de "guerra de galaxias". Asi comienza un comentario individual del periodico Rodong Sinmun insertado en el numero del dia 30 y continua:
    El intento de aprovechar como campo de batalla el espacio cosmico que es objeto de uso pacifico comun de la humanidad deviene un acto que amenaza la existencia de la humanidad e impide el desarrollo de la civilizacion.
    El objetivo de la prueba de armas cosmicas de los imperialistas norteamericanos reside en completar el complejo de misiles y el sistema antimisiles capaces de destruir los satelites y estaciones cosmicos de otros paises. En otras palabras es para crear en el cielo un sistema de destruir con las armas cosmicas los misiles lanzados por otros paises.
    Lo peor es que tales maniobras redundan en acelerar una nueva carrera armamentista en el mundo.
    Tales insensatas maniobras de militarizacion cosmica de EE.UU. son la fuente de la carrera armamentista mundial.
    El emplazamiento de las armas sofisticadas en el cosmos ocasionara una consecuencia funesta.
    Por tanto, no seran perdonados jamas esos actos criminales encaminados a convertir el espacio cosmico pacifico en el campo de carrera armamentista y de la guerra, generar una nueva guerra fria y la termonuclear que pondra en peligro la existencia y la seguridad de la humanidad.
    El cosmos no puede ser apropiacion exclusiva de un pais determinado ni servir de base militar agresiva y campo de guerra contra otros paises.
    EE.UU. debe abandonar de inmediato su intento de militarizar el cosmos y utilizarlo en fines de agresion y guerra en flagrante violacion del derecho internacional del uso para fines pacificos del espacio cosmico.

Minju Joson rechaza resurgimiento del militarismo de Japon

    Pyongyang, 30 de octubre (ATCC) -- La reciente visita colectiva de los ministros y parlamentarios de Japon al "santuario Yasukuni" es una prueba evidente de que el nuevo gabinete de este pais isleno practica invariablemente la politica de resurgimiento del militarismo al igual que en el pasado. @Esa conducta constituye una burla y desafio frontal a la paz y les significa doble y triple punalada a los ya heridos pueblos asiaticos.
    Asi insiste el periodico Minju Joson en un comentario individual del dia 29 y continua:
    La visita de la capa dominante japonesa a dicho santuario no es para "expiar el pecado del pasado", como dice ella, sino para inculcar la idea militarista a los habitantes japoneses y crear un ambiente social favorable a nueva agresion.
    Si se toleran las maniobras de los reaccionarios japoneses encaminadas a inculcar esa idea y retomar el camino de agresion a ultramar, los pueblos asiaticos volveran a sufrir una catastrofe inimaginable.
    Si ellos siguen actuando de esa manera en vez de liquidar su pasado criminal, llevaran a su pais a la autodestruccion.
    Las autoridades japonesas deben portarse con prudencia al darse cuenta de que dejar la ambicion expansionista a ultramar, reflexionar con sinceridad y liquidar lo mas pronto posible sus crimenes del pasado constituye el unico camino para recabar la confianza de la sociedad internacional.

Rodong Sinmun demanda a Japon expiar crimenes del pasado

    Pyongyang, 30 de octubre (ATCC) -- El diario Rodong Sinmun difundio este lunes un articulo individual en relacion con que en estos tiempos, Japon habla mucho de la "construccion de un pais hermoso". En el nuevo siglo el pais isleno tiene una importante e historica tarea de expiar ante la epoca y la conciencia mundial sus crimenes de guerra cometidos en el pasado contra Corea y otros paises asiaticos, opina el articulista y prosigue:
    Esos crimenes resultan los mas barbaros y anti-eticos, que nunca deben ser repetidos en la historia y recompensados consecuentemente ante los pueblos victimas.
    Para ganar la confianza internacional y comenzar de nuevo, los japoneses tienen que reconocer, disculparse y reflexionar voluntariamente de esos crimenes antes de que lo manden otros paises.
    Es porque la "prosperidad" y el "desarrollo" de Japon son el resultado de tanta sangre y sudor de otros pueblos asiaticos.
    Por lo tanto, el pais-isla debe admitirlo y pedir perdon a ellos.
    Si es verdad que Japon aspira a "construir un pais hermoso", debe dejar su intento de reproducir su historia de agresion.
    Pero, este pais incrementa en gran medida sus fuerzas agresoras pretextando "hacer frente a la situacion emergente del contorno" y "preservar la seguridad" y exterioriza abiertamente su intento de retomar el camino de agresion hablando hasta del "ataque preventivo".
    Si Japon sigue portandose como ahora, se desatara una nueva guerra en Asia. En fin, sin esfuerzos por expiar sus crimenes del pasado y preservar la paz, ese canto de "un pais hermoso" sonara siempre ilogico e invalido.
