Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Assumption of Supreme Commandership Celebrated

    Pyongyang, December 22 (KCNA) -- A meeting of workers and trade union members was held at the Central Workers' Hall Thursday to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's assumption of the supreme commandership of the Korean People's Army. Present at the meeting was Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
    A reporter and speakers at the meeting said that with Kim Jong Il assuming the top post of the revolutionary armed forces, a decisive guarantee was provided to energetically carry forward the cause of Juche-oriented army building started by President Kim Il Sung and successfully bring the Korean revolution to accomplishment by steadily inheriting the tradition of Songun.
    They noted that Kim Jong Il has fortified the military position of the country by bringing up the KPA into the strong revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu with his unique Songun policy and, in reliance upon the invincible military force, boosted the self-defensive deterrent in every way and registered brilliant victories and changes in defending socialism and building a great prosperous powerful nation.
    The celebration poem "The General of Korea" was recited at the meeting.
    Stage performances were given by the workers' art squad of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea and the art squad of the Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea on the same day to mark the 15th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's assumption of the supreme commandership of the KPA and the 89th birth anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk.
    Performers sang in an excited tone of the glory and happiness in having Kim Jong Il as supreme commander of the revolutionary armed forces.
    Put on stage were the female chorus "Recollection of the Old Home," the female solo "Korea, Let Me Embrace You Again" and other songs which made the audience recall the immortal exploits of Kim Jong Suk and long for her more ardently.

DPRK's Important Days Marked in Different Countries

    Pyongyang, December 22 (KCNA) -- Meetings, lectures, photo exhibitions and film shows were held in Bangladesh, Austria, Libya and Singapore between Dec. 4 and 14 in the run-up to the 15th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's assumption of the supreme commandership of the Korean People's Army and the 89th birth anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk. On display in the venues of the functions were photos showing the Songun leadership exploits of Kim Jong Il and the might of the KPA.
    The participants of the film shows watched Korean films "For the Liberation of the Country" and "The Korean People's Army, Steel-like Ranks."
    The speakers at the meeting in Bangladesh expressed the belief that under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il the Korean people will surely emerge victorious in the stand-off with the U.S. imperialists and their allied forces.
    The chief of the Group of Youth for the Study of Kim Jong Il Juche Idea in Vienna noted that the DPRK has frustrated the anti-DPRK moves of the U.S-led imperialist allied forces by enforcing the Songun policy, thereby protecting socialism and demonstrating its sovereignty and dignity to the whole world.
    Al Sadik Al Tahir Al Makuz, secretary of the Association of Champions of African Unity in Libya, noted at the photo exhibition and film show that rosy is the future of the Korean people as they hold Kim Jong Il in high esteem and the U.S. can never attack the Korean people.
    The manager of a Singaporean company said at the photo exhibition and the film show that Kim Jong Il is steering the world's political history of the 21st century and the KPA is the strongest army as it is under his wise commandership.

Upgrading Japan Defence Agency to Ministry Termed Move for Overseas Invasion

    Pyongyang, December 22 (KCNA) -- Some days ago the House of Councilors in the land of Japs finally adopted the bill on upgrading the Defense Agency to the Defence Ministry at its session despite strong protest at home and abroad in the wake of the passage of the bill through the House of Representatives. This is a very dangerous development indicating that the Japanese reactionaries' scenario for overseas invasion has entered into the phase of its full-scale implementation, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in a signed commentary.
    Japan has systematically increased its military spending for the past years to bolster the "Self-Defence Forces" as modern regular forces, thus emerging a country with the world's second largest military spending next to the U.S., the commentary notes, and goes on:
    The reactionaries of the island country have worked hard to lay a legal foundation for hurling the SDF into any part of the world while developing it into offensive-type troops for aggression. They drastically revised the "Law on Self-Defence Forces" enacted in 1954 under the pretexts of "rescuing overseas Japanese in case of emergency," "emergency in the surrounding areas," "cooperation in the war on terrorism," etc. They also enacted the "Law on Cooperation in UN Peace-keeping Operations," "Law on Emergency in Surrounding Areas," "Law on Special Measures to Combat Terrorism," "Law Related to Emergency" and other laws. All this was meant to lay a legal foundation for the overseas dispatch of the SDF and its operations there.
    The upgrading of the agency to the ministry made it possible for the SDF to conduct overseas military operations as its major mission and this land of Japs to round off all preparations for launching overseas invasion.
    The Japanese reactionaries' replacement of the "pacifist constitution," which they have maintained for form's sake, by a war constitution would mean clearing the last stumbling block in their way for overseas aggression. It is not hard to imagine what serious consequences this alarming development will entail.

Officials of AINDF Mission Visit Korean Revolution Museum

Developing Korean Costume-Making Technique

    Pyongyang, December 22 (KCNA) -- Efforts are being made to develop varied shapes and beautiful decorations of national costume in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The Clothing Institute of the Ministry of Light Industry has developed a new scientific designing method of Korean costume to suit the tastes and emotion of the people.
    This year books including "Various Women's Clothes," "Men's Clothes," "How to Design and Mend Clothes" and "Children's Clothes for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter" have been published to widely generalize the achievements and experience made in developing Korean costume-making technique.
    The 4th National Korean Costume Exhibition was held in September this year. Exhibited there were many kinds of everyday clothes. The exhibits were convenient to wear and suited to the national emotion of the Korean people who are fond of light and soft color.

New Artificial Dura Mater of Brain Developed

    Pyongyang, December 22 (KCNA) -- Researchers of the Clinical Research Institute of the Kim Man Yu Hospital and Textile Research Institute of the Branch Academy of Light Industrial Science under the State Academy of Sciences have developed artificial dura mater of brain, the first of its kind in the DPRK. It is made with void-free polyester fiber.
    The material is free from the adhesive with living body tissue and antigen-antibody reaction and is safe to acid, alkali and all inorganic and organic chemical medicines.
    So far it has been transplanted to tens of patients, but no side-effects have been reported.
