Kim Jong Il Sends Wreath to Bier of Late Paek Nam Sun

     Pyongyang, January 3 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il Wednesday sent a wreath to the bier of the late Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun, deputy to the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, expressing deep condolences over his death.

Important Days of DPRK Observed

     Pyongyang, January 3 (KCNA) -- A seminar was held in Russia and a lecture and photo exhibition took place in Guinea respectively on Dec. 23 and 24 last year to mark the 15th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's assumption of office as supreme commander of the Korean People's Army and the 89th birth anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk. On display in the venues of the functions were photos showing the immortal exploits of the three generals of Mt. Paektu.
    Mikhail Panchenko, chairman of the Russian Youth Association for the Study of the Songun Policy, in a report at the seminar highly praised the undying feats of Kim Jong Suk, a great woman revolutionary.
    The seminar discussed and decided on the issue of significantly organizing a scientific symposium on the Juche idea on the occasion of the Day of the Sun and February 16 in 2007.
    Malik Souma, director general of the Kim Il Sung Institute of Agricultural Science in Guinea, gave lectures entitled "Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il holding high the treasured sword of Songun" and "Kim Jong Suk recorded a brilliant page in the history of modern Korea."
    A message of greetings to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the seminar held in Russia.

Determinations to Implement Tasks Laid down in Joint New Year Editorial Evinced

     Pyongyang, January 3 (KCNA) -- People of different social standings in the DPRK are firmly determined to thoroughly implement the tasks set forth in the joint New Year editorial calling for ushering in a great heyday of Songun Korea full of confidence in victory, upon receiving the editorial. Ri Ul Sol, anti-Japanese revolutionary fighter, said that this year, which will commemorate the 95th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung, would instill into the entire army and all the people of the DPRK strong faith that cheers over the victorious Songun revolution will resound all over the land of Korea along with the revolutionary history of the President which has been given steady continuity. Hong Song Nam, chief secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, stressed that the province is facing difficult and huge tasks this year, but the officials, Party members and other working people of the province are fully confident of victory as they have leader Kim Jong Il at the helm of the revolution. It is the unanimous will and pledge of the officials and agricultural workers in the field of agriculture to do farming well this year and thus achieve an epoch-making advance in solving the food problem for the people, said Ri Kyong Sik, minister of Agriculture. Ri Ju O, minister of Light Industry, said that he would work to ensure that more consumer goods are supplied to the people this year, noting that the officials and workers in the field of light industry are firmly resolved to intensify the revolution in the field this significant year.
    Pak Nam Chil, minister of Power Industry, said that the officials and employees of the ministry all out for the onward movement for this year are greatly inspired by the idea and spirit of the joint New Year editorial. He vowed to work hard to bring about a signal boost in the production of electricity with the firm viewpoint that they are the soldiers taking the lead in the building of an economic power.

Friday Meeting against U.S. and War Held in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, January 3 (KCNA) -- A Friday meeting for a general view of anti-U.S. and anti-war actions in 2006 was reportedly held near the U.S. embassy in Seoul on Dec. 29 last year under the sponsorship of the Solidarity Meeting for Opposing the U.S. and War and for the Withdrawal of the U.S. Troops in south Korea. Speakers at the meeting said that the U.S. committed an unbroken chain of big accidents and steadily increased the funds for the upkeep of the U.S. forces in south Korea in 2006.
    Noting that in addition to this the U.S. persistently escalated sanctions and the moves for a war of aggression against the DPRK, they called for raising the voices opposing the U.S. and war and demanding the pullback of the U.S. forces.
    A resolution read out at the meeting called for driving the U.S. troops, a source of war, out of this land and achieving peace without fail in 2007.

Main Trend toward Independence Cannot Be Blocked: Rodong Sinmun

     Pyongyang, January 3 (KCNA) -- The joint New Year editorial declares that nothing can stop the struggle of the people for independence, notes Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in a signed article, adding: This is an entirely just idea reflecting the invariable aspiration and gigantic strength of the popular masses and the development of the present situation. Noting that an increasing number of people demand independence and a great many countries are following the road of independence, the author of the article goes on: The main target of attack in the struggle of the people for independence is imperialism. The cause of independence of the popular masses has run into mounting troubles due to the blatant challenge of the imperialist forces. The prevailing situation calls for a more dauntless struggle against imperialism.
    The present era is an exciting era of Songun. It is an era in which the destiny of the country and the nation and the destiny of the cause of independence of the popular masses mainly depend upon the military might, the might of arms, an era in which the danger of war is averted and a durable peace is achieved with arms. This era of Songun is a new, higher stage in the accomplishment of the human cause of independence. The victory in the struggle for independence lies in unity. Unity based on independence is the source of invincibility and the key to victory. The idea of independence is sure to be brought to victory by the struggle of the united people.
    Socialism is the ideal and future of humankind. Only socialism can guarantee the realization of the independence of the popular masses and the building of an independent, peaceful and friendly new world. The aspiration of humankind for independence and socialism and the orientation of the development of history toward them never change.
    Inexhaustible is the strength of the people desirous of independence and, accordingly, no force on earth can block their struggle.
    The struggle of the people for independence will gather strength and develop as the days go by and the imperialist and dominationist forces are fated to suffer destruction. The Workers' Party of Korea and the people of the DPRK this year, too, will positively contribute to the victorious advance of the cause of independence and the cause of socialism of the popular masses under the uplifted banner of independence.

"Book on Birds in Pyongyang" Off Press

     Pyongyang, January 3 (KCNA) -- The Science and Encyclopedia Press of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has recently published "Book on Birds in Pyongyang". There live more than 440 species of birds in Korea, over 250 of which are found in the Pyongyang area.
    The book consists of two parts, basic and main.
    The basic part gives natural and geographical conditions of Pyongyang and the distribution of fauna and flora there as well as the general flying of birds and its adaptation. The main part arranges the 16 orders of the birds in Korea, which had been used so far, into 13 orders according to the internationally recognized classification order and details their looks, habits, distribution and migration. Contained in the book are tens of fragmentary knowledge on alarm signals, flying speed and altitude of birds and others, and how to observe the birds. The book helps readers acquire a lot of knowledge on birds such as the assortment and number of birds in the thickly-wooded Pyongyang, their prospect, ecological features and ways of protecting and propagating them.

Kim Jong Il presencia funcion del Coro Estatal Benemerito del EPC

     Pyongyang, 3 de enero (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il, Secretario General del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y Comandante Supremo del Ejercito Popular de Corea presencio una funcion del Coro Estatal Benemerito del EPC por el Ano Nuevo 2007. Le acompanaron los cuadros directivos del CC del PTC y los miembros de mando del EPC.
    El Coro Estatal Benemerito laureado con la "Orden Kim Il Sung" puso en la escena varias piezas de coro, entre otras, "El Lider siempre junto con nosotros" y "Cancion del EPC".
    A traves de la funcion llena de impetu combativo los ejecutantes cantaron con alto orgullo la gloriosa trayectoria de la revolucion coreana y demostraron fehacientemente la ferrea conviccion y voluntad del ejercito y el pueblo de Corea de llevar a feliz termino la causa revolucionaria del Juche iniciada en la selva del Paektu. A los espectadores les dio profunda impresion la funcion que reflejo fielmente el firme temperamento del ejercito y el pueblo que con redoblado animo avanzan vigorosamente hacia nueva victoria.
    El Dirigente expreso gran satisfaccion de que los artistas del citado Coro dieron una magnifica funcion rebosante de la conviccion y voluntad de Corea y del espiritu revolucionario de los militares y evaluo de alto el exito de su funcion. Es infrenable la corriente hacia independencia, insiste Rodong Sinmun

     .Pyongyang, 3 de enero (ATCC) -- El diario Rodong Sinmun publico este miercoles un articulo individual calificando de sumamente justo el editorial conjunto de los periodicos Rodong Sinmun, Joson Inmingun y Chongnyon Jonwi publicado en ocasion del Ano Nuevo 2007. La idea de que es infrenable la lucha de los pueblos por la independencia, planteada en ese editorial, refleja la inmutable aspiracion y las gigantescas fuerzas de las masas populares y la evolucion de la situacion actual, subraya el articulista y prosigue: Hoy dia, crece el numero de los pueblos y los paises aspirantes a la independencia. El blanco principal de la lucha de los pueblos por la independencia es el imperialismo. En la actualidad, debido a los brutales desafios de las fuerzas imperialistas, esa causa de las masas populares tropieza con serias dificultades.
    La situacion dada demanda desplegar con mas audacia la lucha antiimperialista. La epoca actual es la conmovedora era del Songun (priorizacion militar), en que el destino del pais y la nacion y el futuro de la causa de independencia de las masas populares dependen principalmente del poderio de las fuerzas armadas, que previenen el peligro de guerra y garantizan la paz duradera.
    Esta era significa una etapa mas alta del cumplimiento de la causa de independencia de la humanidad.
    La llave de la victoria en esa lucha reside en la unidad basada en la independencia, que deviene la fuente de las invencibles fuerzas.
    El ideal de independencia triunfara sin falta gracias a la lucha de los pueblos unidos. El socialismo es el ideal y el futuro de la especie humana.
    Solo cuando se emprende la senda del socialismo, es posible materializar la independencia de las masas populares y construir un nuevo mundo independiente, pacifico y amistoso.
    Nunca se alteraran la aspiracion de la humanidad a la independencia y al socialismo y el curso del desarrollo de la historia.
    Son inagotables las fuerzas de los pueblos aspirantes a la independencia y nadie en este mundo podra frenar la lucha de ellos.
    Esta lucha adquirira cada dia mayor intensidad y las fuerzas imperialistas y dominantes estan condenadas a la bancarrota.
    Este ano tambien el partido y el pueblo de Corea contribuiran activamente al avance victorioso de la causa de independencia y la del socialismo de las masas populares levantando en alto la bandera de la independencia.

Pueblo coreano alzado a la marcha general del Ano Nuevo

    .Pyongyang, 3 de enero (ATCC) -- Con la conviccion en la victoria cierta y el gran optimismo, el pueblo coreano se ha levantado como un solo hombre en la marcha general del Ano Nuevo 96 (2007) de la Era Juche para abrir bajo la direccion del grandioso Partido del Trabajo de Corea la gran epoca de prosperidad de Corea del Songun (priorizacion militar). Los trabajadores de diferentes sectores lograron grandes exitos en la primera labor del Ano Nuevo en correspondencia al editorial conjunto de los organos del partido, el ejercito y la union de la juventud, que llama a dar mayor impulso a la marcha revolucionaria para alcanzar las altas metas de la construccion de una gran potencia prospera socialista.
    Bajo la consigna de "Con firme conviccion en la victoria, abramos la gran epoca de prosperidad de la Corea del Songun", los funcionarios y los agricultores de las Granjas Cooperativas de distintas localidades elaboraron minuciosamente los planes del trabajo y los ejecutan de manera revolucionaria.
    La llanura Miru, las Granjas en los distritos de Taehongdan, Samjiyon y Paek-am, transformadas de modo irreconocible segun el proyecto del partido, toman la delantera en el trabajo para resolver satisfactoriamente el problema alimentario al abonar con fertilizantes de optima calidad sus arrozales y campos de secano movilizando toda la mano de obra y todos los recursos.
    Desde el principio del Ano Nuevo, la asistencia al campo se activa en todas las localidades.
    Los funcionarios del Consejo de Ministros, ministerios, organos centrales y de las provincias, ciudades y distritos, inclusive la ciudad de Pyongyang y las provincias de Phyong-an del Sur y de Jagang, acudieron a las granjas con materiales agricolas de ayuda donde redoblaron el entusiasmo de los granjeros mediante una energica agitacion economica.
    En pleno acato al referido editorial, los obreros de la rama de industria ligera, en particular del Combinado Textil de Pyongyang, las Fabricas de Seda de Nyongbyon y Pakchon, la Fabrica de Calzados de Sinuiju, la de Cosmeticos de Pyongyang y la de Articulos de Uso Diario de Pyongyang, marcan desde el primero de enero altos indices de produccion manteniendo sus maquinas en pleno funcionamiento. Ademas, trabajan intensamente para mejorar este ano la calidad de los productos y diversificarlos dando pruebas del espiritu de abnegacion al pueblo y del revolucionario de autososten y lucha tenaz.
    Con la disposicion revolucionaria de librar una dinamica labor para edificar una gran potencia economica socialista, los trabajadores de los Complejos Termoelectricos de Pyongyang y Pukchang, la Central Termoelectrica de Pyongyang Este, las Centrales Hidroelectricas de Hochongang, Jangjingang, Thaechon y la Juventud de Kanggye y otras plantas electricas produjeron mucha cantidad de electricidad en los primeros dias de este ano.
    De otro lado, los carboneros de los Complejos Carboniferos de las zonas de Pukchang, Tokchon, Sunchon, Kujang, Kaechon, Hamnam, Anju, Kangdong, Chonnae y Myongchon suman mas velocidad a la marcha general de este ano al registrar altos indices de la produccion del carbon a ser suministrado a las plantas termoelectricas. En tanto, el Complejo Siderurgico de Kimchaek, el de Acero de Songjin y el Minero de Musan normalizan en alto nivel la produccion de materiales de acero y minerales de hierro.
    Mientras tanto, bien conscientes de su gran responsabilidad de garantizar plenamente la operacion del ferrocarril, que cumple la funcion de vanguardia en la economia nacional y de arteria del pais, los trabajadores del sector de transporte ferroviario, inclusive los de las Direcciones del Ferrocarril de Pyongyang, Chongjin y Kaechon, trabajan de manera muy responsable para cumplir sus planes trazados para transportar las materias primas a los campos de construccion del socialismo. Ademas, los cientificos entraron en la investigacion cientifica con la decision de resolver de modo revolucionario los problemas cientifico-tecnicos que urgen ser solucionados para vitalizar los frentes principales de la construccion del socialismo. Los tambores, que anuncian la victoria de la revolucion del Songun, resuenan tambien en la Mina Juventud de Hyesan, las Empresas Forestales de Yon-am y Yuphyong y otras unidades donde se eleva trascendentalmente la produccion de minerales y maderos.
