Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- Premier of the DPRK Cabinet Pak Pong Ju sent a congratulatory message to Antoine Gizenga Fundji upon his appointment as Prime Minister of Democratic Congo.
Expressing belief that the excellent friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would grow stronger in the mutual interests, the message wished him success in his work.
DPRK's Joint New Year Editorial Supported Abroad
Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- The Asian Regional Institute of the Juche Idea, the Asian Regional Committee to Support Korea's Reunification and 23 political parties and organizations of India including the Communist Party of India, the Revolutionary Socialist Party of India, the All India Indo-Korean Friendship Association and the Indian Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification, made public a joint statement in support of the part on national reunification of the DPRK's joint New Year editorial on Jan. 8.
The statement said that all the Koreans in the north and the south of Korea, which has a history of 5,000 years, and overseas unanimously call for reunifying the country, artificially divided by the foreign forces, independently and peacefully in the idea of "By our nation itself".
Expressing full support and solidarity with the Korean people in their just cause for achieving the national reunification, the statement strongly demanded that the foreign troops, a main obstacle to the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea, be withdrawn from south Korea without delay.
Meanwhile, Siham Ahmad Mugahed, chairman of the Egypt-Korea Friendship Association, and Om Prakash Mantri, secretary general of the All India Indo-Korean Friendship Association, released statements in support of the joint New Year editorial on Jan. 3 and 5.
Progressive Solidarity to Be Formed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- The Preparatory Committee for the south Korean Progressive Solidarity, a permanent solidarity alliance of progressive camp, was reportedly inaugurated with due ceremony in Seoul on Jan. 9.
At the same time a ceremony of declaring its struggle for 2007 took place.
The preparatory committee groups 22 progressive organizations and political parties including the Reunification Solidarity, the All-People Solidarity, the south Korean Alliance for Democracy and Reunification, the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the south Korean Federation of Peasants Associations and the Democratic Labor Party.
The above-said inauguration makes it possible to step up on a full scale the building of a single solidarity alliance of progressive camp whose preparation has been made from the latter half of the year 2005 in south Korea.
At the ceremony, representatives of different organizations who are co-chairpersons of the preparatory committee underlined the importance to provide the unity and solidarity of progressive camp.
An inaugural declaration of the above-said committee was read out at the ceremony. The declaration clarified that people from different social strata would conduct in an overall way a joint struggle against the neo-liberalist "globalization", for peace against the U.S. and war and for democracy, going beyond solidarity struggle for vital rights.
It stated that the preparatory committee would carry on the building of the Progressive Solidarity in step with the struggle against the conclusion of the "Free Trade Agreement".
Opening of Medical Market Assailed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- More than 7,000 doctors under the south Korean Doctors Association called a rally in front of the "government" building on Jan. 10, protesting against the negotiations on conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. "Free Trade Agreement", according to south Korea's KBS.
The ralliers charged that the U.S. and the south Korean authorities discussed the matter of opening the medical market in the field of traditional medicine at the 5th round of negotiations on concluding the FTA in Dec. last year.
In case the medical market is opened, the south Korean people's health will be exposed to threat of American doctors, they said, demanding an immediate halt to such move.
Struggle against GNP's Attempt to Come to Power Urged
Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korean Student Committee released a statement on Jan. 13, 20 years since the Pak Jong Chol was tortured to death in south Korea.
The statement called upon the south Korean students to decisively smash any attempt of the Grand National Party of south Korea, a traitorous party based in the military dictatorial group, to seize "power", in the same fighting spirit as displayed by the April 19 Resistance fighters and during the June Popular Uprising in which students took the lead.
It said:
The case of Pak Jong Chol is no more than a part of numerous malignant killings committed by the pro-American military dictatorial group. And those chiefly responsible for the case have not been punished but are still at large.
It is none other than the GNP that rooted in the military dictatorial group and took over its killing mechanism.
The GNP, a treacherous party which is stained with blood of south Korean students and has committed numerous dirty crimes, is now running amuck to wrest "power" at any cost in the forthcoming "presidential elections", dreaming of the old time.
It is as clear as noonday that if the GNP comes to power the south Korean students will face the same fate as Pak's by the fascist dictatorship and their hope to emerge the generation of reunification under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration be dismissed.
They should never harbor any illusion or expectation from the GNP.
Rodong Sinmun on Danger of Imperialists' Ideological and Cultural Poisoning
Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- It is necessary to clearly understand the danger of the imperialists' ideological and cultural poisoning, strictly shatter it and intensify the ideological education, says Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a signed article.
Bourgeois ideology and culture are used as a means for the imperialists' moves for disorganizing the socialist countries and anti-imperialist independent countries and disintegrating them ideologically and mentally and as a scout for military aggression, the article notes, and goes on:
Bourgeois ideology and culture are based on extreme egoism and a harmful poison undermining the sound consciousness of people.
What the imperialists seek through ideological and cultural poisoning against the socialist countries and anti-imperialist independent countries is to paralyze independent consciousness and revolutionary consciousness of people and make them suffer from ideological maladies and give up the anti-imperialist struggle. If the imperialists' ideological and cultural poisoning is allowed, it will weaken the faith of people in the cause of independence against imperialism and disarm them ideologically.
Their ideological and cultural poisoning may produce such serious results as deteriorating and disintegrating socialism, destroying the faith of the people in socialism and, furthermore, overthrowing the socialist system.
In recent years "coloring revolution" such as "rose revolution" and "orange revolution" took place in an unbroken chain in different countries, bringing about regime changes there. And Iraq could not offer a stubborn resistance against the military aggression of the U.S. imperialists before surrendering. These facts go to clearly prove how serious the consequences of the imperialists' ideological and cultural poisoning are.
If sovereignty of each country and nation is to be defended and their independent development to be ensured, it is necessary to wage an uncompromising struggle against imperialism with the steadfast anti-imperialist spirit.
Rodong Sinmun Lambastes Japan for Upgrading Defence Agency to Ministry
Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- The land of Japs on Jan. 9 upgraded the Defence Agency to a ministry. This is a very dangerous military step taken to reorganize the "Self-Defence Forces" into the offensive armed forces and prepare them so that they may be mobilized for a war of aggression any time.
Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed article.
It goes on:
The militarists in the land of Japs has described their country as a "pacifist state" while crying for "peace" but they are now refusing to say the word "peace".
In fact, they neither strove for peace nor wanted Japan to remain a pacifist state. Day and night they have been hell-bent on whetting the sword of reinvasion and made desperate efforts to create international circumstances favorable for it. The Japanese ruling quarters have not liquidated the past crimes though half a century has passed after the war but beautified and whitewashed the Japanese imperialists' history of aggression and justified it and become evermore pronounced in their moves to instill the militarist idea into the Japanese through visits to the "Yasukuni Shrine". These are aimed at creating the political and military circumstances to realize their ambition for reinvasion.
If the Defence Ministry is to exercise its authority as the supreme armed forces organ in Japan, it can send armed forces to necessary regions and, furthermore, mobilize manpower and material resources of the country to war under the order and instruction of the prime minister without "approval" of the Diet which has been kept nominally. This is little different from the war commanding system which the Japanese imperialists established in the country before the Second World War.
The Japanese militarists set forth preemptive attack as a new military principle and seek to put it into practice. That is why the ruling quarters of the land of Japs upgraded the Defence Agency to a ministry before the abolition of the "pacifist constitution" and, on this basis, are trying to put greater spurs to scrap it.
If they opt for the territorial expansion, obsessed with the ambition for reinvasion, far from drawing a lesson from the past defeat, Japan will fall into a bottomless abyss.
CILRECO Calls for Strengthening Solidarity with Korean People
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- We call upon all the organizations for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people and forces for peace against imperialism in the world to positively support and widely introduce the joint New Year editorial issued in the DPRK and intensify the solidarity movement for Korea's reunification and peace.
The International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea (CILRECO) said this in a statement on Jan. 4.
The joint editorial serves as a militant banner encouraging the progressives in their struggle for global independence and peace, the statement said, adding that it calls upon all the Korean people to turn out as one in the struggle for building a great prosperous powerful nation and accomplishing the cause of independent national reunification.
It went on:
The joint editorial is opening up a bright prospect to the Korean people in their efforts to build a great prosperous powerful nation and realize the cause of national reunification according to the proposal for national reunification set forth by President Kim Il Sung.
The CILRECO extends full support to the call made by the joint editorial to all the Korean people to carry out the three tasks, i.e. attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving the unity in order to achieve national reunification on the three principles of national reunification--independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity -- laid down by Kim Il Sung.
Korean People's Greatest Holidays to Be Commemorated in Russia
Moscow, January 11 (KCNA) -- The Russian Public Preparatory Committee for Commemorating the Day of the Sun and February 16 was inaugurated with due ceremony in Moscow on Jan. 10.
Chairman of the Russian Association for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK Vladimir Tolstikov was elected chairman of the preparatory committee at the inaugural ceremony.
The preparatory committee consists of Dmitri Yazov, former minister of Defence of the Soviet Union, and Oleg Shenin, chairman of the Communist Party of Soviet Union, and thirteen other figures of various circles.
It decided to organize colorful functions such as meetings, photo exhibitions, art performances and film shows on the above-mentioned occasions.
Lao Prime Minister Supports DPRK
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- It is an unchangeable stand of the Lao party and government to support the line and policies of the Workers' Party and government of the DPRK.
Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh said this when meeting the DPRK ambassador to Laos on Jan. 8.
Noting that the nuclear deterrent of the DPRK serves as a source of strength giving confidence to small countries, a powerful means for firmly defending socialism and a weapon that helps them to increase their say, he stressed:
The successes achieved by the Korean people greatly encourage the peoples of the countries aspiring after socialism.
The slogan "Add brilliance to the June 15 reunification era by attaching importance to the nation, maintaining peace and achieving unity!" enlists the sympathy from the world people.
The Lao party, government and people will always remember the moral and material assistance given by the DPRK in the past and invariably support the Korean people in their just cause of national reunification.
Lao Prime Minister Visits Youth Friendship Centre
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, visited the Laos-Korea Youth Friendship Centre on Jan. 8.
After seeing photos on display at the centre, which show external activities of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, the prime minister was briefed on the history of the centre and the activities conducted there.
Going round various places of the centre, he said that Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il are the great men recognized by the world.
Kim Jong Il is the outstanding leader who has wisely led the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League to glorify its honor as a reserve force and a special detachment of the supreme commander, he noted, adding that the Lao youths should learn from the strong organization and discipline of the Korean youths.
The Prime Minister made an entry in the visitor's book.
11th Kimjongilia Festival to Be Held
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- The 11th Kimjongilia Festival will be held here on the occasion of the February holiday, birthday of Kim Jong Il.
The festival is to take place at the Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Exhibition in mid-February.
Attending it will be organs of armed forces, commissions and ministries of the Cabinet, national institutions and institutions in the city of Pyongyang, servicepersons, working people and school youth and children. It will be also participated in by overseas compatriots' organizations and individual compatriots, embassies of different countries and missions of international organizations here, friendship and social organizations in various countries and foreign friends.
Working People's Rallies Go On
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- Rallies for thoroughly implementing the militant tasks proposed in the joint editorial for this year were held at factories and enterprises in the fields of power, coal and metal industries and railway transport and different farms and related industrial establishments and the Pyongyang 326 Electric Wire Factory.
Reporters and speakers at the rallies underscored the need to wage a dynamic offensive in the fields of the four pilots of national economy, cherishing the honor and responsibility for taking the lead in building an economic power, and thus fully demonstrate the heroic spirit of the Korean working class and contribute to reenergizing all the domains of the economy.
They also called for energetically stepping up the general march, keeping up farming as the great foundation of the country to bring about a boost in the agricultural production this year and thus make a tangible contribution to improving the standard of people's living and building a rich and powerful nation.
They underlined the need for the industrial establishments to conduct and command economic operations in a responsible manner as required by the developing reality and their specific conditions and organize the economic performance in Korean style in order to ensure profitability, while adhering to the socialist principle under the uplifted slogan of self-reliance.
The officials and employees of the Pyongyang 326 Electric Wire Factory challenged the workers of all other industrial establishments throughout the country to a socialist emulation for winning the "Songun Torchlight Prize".
Conservative Media Denounced in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) --The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration in an article issued on Jan. 8 denounced conservative media for their anti-reunification diatribe, according to a news report.
The solidarity accused Dong-A Ilbo of malignantly slandering the solidarity and the South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification for having released their New Year articles which called for forming a great alliance of anti-conservative forces and standing up against the Grand National Party of south Korea (GNP).
The solidarity in the article said it has consistently maintained the stand of opposing the GNP as it has stood in the way of national reunification, blocking the development of the inter-Korean relations and disturbing national reconciliation and cooperation.
It stressed that the solidarity would do its best to deter the candidate from the GNP from winning victory in the "presidential elections."
Recalling that the conservative media were hell-bent on inciting confrontation among compatriots in a bid to back the pro-U.S. flunkeys whenever there were "presidential elections," the solidarity strongly demanded an immediate stop to the anachronistic political coloring offensive.
Progressive Mankind Called Upon to Promote Cause of Independence
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- The cause of human independence is the most just one as it reflects the desire and wish of progressive mankind, says Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a signed article.
The present international situation urgently requires progressive mankind advocating independence to turn out in the struggle to accomplish the cause of independence, regarding it as a task of the times, the article notes, and goes on:
It is a law-governed process of the development of history that the cause of human independence presents itself as a task of the times and is sure to triumph, but it can never come true apart from the popular masses's struggle.
If the world people advocating independence are to emerge victorious in this struggle, they should unite under the banner of independence.
It is self-evident that the victory of the cause of human independence would have been unthinkable without the unity of the world people advocating independence now that the imperialists and dominationists are colluding with each other in their acts to stifle the people's cause of independence.
"Let the world people advocating independence unite!" This is the slogan of struggle and unity that the progressives should put up.
Imperialism is the main target of the struggle for accomplishing the cause of human independence. It is necessary to maintain the revolutionary principle in the struggle against imperialism, never taken in by the imperialists' loud-mouthed "freedom", "democracy", "peace" and "human rights."
If people make a step back in the struggle against imperialism, then they will be compelled to make a hundred and thousand steps back, allowing themselves to become its slaves.
They should preserve the Juche character and national identity and frustrate the imperialists' moves for "globalization."
The cause of human independence is facing a grave challenge. But it is sure to triumph should the above-said progressive humankind go united in the fight against imperialism and dominationism.
Rodong Sinmun Calls for Defending Peace
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- To defend peace from the outsiders' aggression and war is one of the most primary tasks facing all the Koreans at present for national reunification and their common prosperity. Rodong Sinmun today stresses this in a signed article.
Without struggle against aggression and war, is it impossible to ensure peace and expect the existence and development of the nation and progress of the cause of national reunification, it notes, and goes on:
To safeguard peace is a key to achieving national reunification and prosperity. This year the whole Korean nation should hold higher the banner of peace against war and turn out in the struggle against the U.S. imperialists' moves for a new war so as to firmly defend peace and security of the Korean Peninsula.
All the Koreans should never allow any criminal military confrontation move of the U.S. imperialists threatening existence and security of the nation and disturbing peace and reunification of the country, but conduct a nationwide struggle to frustrate it.
Withdrawal of the U.S. imperialist aggressor troops from south Korea is the demand of the June 15 era of reunification and desire of the whole Korean nation. The struggle to drive the aggressor troops out of south Korea will be a struggle most effective in removing the source of war and ensuring peace in the Korean Peninsula.
Broad sections of pro-reunification patriotic forces in south Korea should vigorously wage the struggle to drive the U.S. troops, the root cause of military tensions and war and the source of misfortunes and pain.
They should also smash every criminal move of the "Grand National Party" and other pro-U.S. bellicose forces zealously following the outside forces' policy of aggression on the DPRK.
Gift to Kim Jong Il from Jordanian King
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il was presented with a gift by Abdullah II, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on the occasion of the New Year.
The gift was conveyed to an official of the DPRK embassy in China on Wednesday.
Spokesman for CPRF Raps U.S. for Introducing Stealth Fighter Bombers into S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland (CPRF) issued a statement Saturday blasting the United States for on-going introduction of a wing of F-117 Stealth fighter bombers and at least 300 support personnel into south Korea.
The U.S. introduction of this type of war hardware which earned an ill-fame in its war of aggression is a dangerous military move blatantly challenging the aspiration and desire of all the fellow countrymen and humankind for a peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue and the peace on the Korean Peninsula as it is aimed at putting its scenario for a war against the DPRK into practice, the statement said, and went on:
On behalf of the whole nation aspiring after the peace and reunification of the country the CPRF strongly condemns the U.S. bellicose elements for driving the situation to the brink of war through their reckless arms buildup and military provocations.
The U.S., driven to a corner at home and abroad, is keen to seek a way out in igniting a new war of aggression against the DPRK.
What merits a serious attention is that the U.S. intends to let the above-said Stealth fighter bombers participate in the largest-ever south Korea-U.S. RSOI slated to take place in coming spring.
The reality goes to clearly prove that the "peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue" much touted by the U.S. is nothing but window-dressing to deceive the world people and its real intention is to realize its aggressive ambition for putting the whole of Korea under its control.
The DPRK is ready both for war and dialogue.
If the U.S. opts for a war of aggression against the DPRK despite its repeated warnings and the unanimous condemnation of the public at home and abroad, it will not be able to escape an irrevocable defeat.
U.S. Shameless Stance Taken over Issue of Its Base Transfer under Fire
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the North Headquarters of the Nationwide Special Committee for Probing the Truth behind the GIs' Crimes made public a statement today blasting the shameless and brigandish stance taken by the U.S. over the issue of transfer of its military base in south Korea.
Some days ago, the commander of the U.S. forces in south Korea at a press conference with Korean and foreign reporters blustered that American servicemen and their families no longer want to live in the outdated and environmentally unfriendly base. Should the agreement the U.S. signed with south Korea on the transfer of its military base to Phyongthaek by 2008 is not implemented due to political reasons or the financial problem, the former would stand up against it.
The spokesman said that this is a wanton violation of the dignity and sovereignty of the Korean nation and an intolerable insult to the south Korean people as it betrayed the true colors of the U.S. as an arrogant ruler of south Korea.
Citing facts to prove that for over 60 years of their presence in different parts of south Korea the U.S. forces have polluted its environment and devastated its land, he went on:
Far from apologizing and compensating for these crimes before the Korean nation, the U.S. is pressurizing south Korea to cover huge expenses for the transfer of the base and keen to usurp new land including Phyongthaek for its military bases of aggression. Worse still, it is making threatening remarks over the delay made in the implementation of the agreement. This is like a thief crying "stop the thief!"
He demanded the U.S. immediately withdraw its troops from south Korea instead of transferring its military base.
Japan's Suppression of Chongryon Lambasted in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Federation of University Students in the 21st Century reportedly made public a statement titled "We strongly denounce the Japanese authorities' suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), an act of violating human rights and inciting national discrimination" on Jan. 10.
Noting that the Japanese reactionaries are now getting evermore undisguised in suppression of Chongryon and Korean residents in Japan and encroachment upon their human rights, the statement strongly condemned the reckless acts of the Japanese ultra-right conservatives.
The above-said crackdown is intended to disunite the Korean community in Japan and build up a spiritual basis for staging a comeback to the Korean Peninsula, the statement said. It stressed that the federation will wage a vigorous struggle to reveal the seriousness and true nature of the Japanese authorities' crackdown upon Chongryon and stir up the public opinion against it.
Japan Hit for Moves to Disorganize Chongryon and Korean Community
Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea issued a statement Sunday in connection with the fact that the moves of the Japanese reactionaries to obliterate the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), a sacred overseas citizens' organization of the DPRK, and the Korean community in Japan are reaching the worst phase, going beyond the limit.
From the outset of the year the reactionaries in the land of Japs set in motion hundreds of armed policemen to search again the Hyogo Prefectural Commercial Association of Chongryon and arrest its official, the statement said, and went on:
What merits a serious attention is that, not content with bedeviling Chongryon and Koreans in Japan, the reactionaries are branding them as "potential terrorist" in a bid to invent a pretext for taking legal actions against them under the notorious "Anti-Subversive Activities Act".
The reactionaries in the land of Japs are engaging themselves in unethical and inhumane plots and suppression against Chongryon and Koreans in Japan, taking off even the veil of the "law" and "human rights" much touted by them. Lurking behind it is their heinous political intention to justify by all means the extreme sanctions against the DPRK taken to toe the U.S. line and tarnish the daily-growing dignity of the DPRK and remove Chongryon and the Korean community from Japan at any cost by taking advantage of this opportunity.
Provoking the dignity of Chongryon means violating the sovereignty of the DPRK, and to deprive the Korean residents of their rights immediately means to encroach upon the right of the Korean nation.
If the reactionaries of the island country, toeing the U.S. line and seeking a foolish political delusion to provoke someone, continue to be hostile toward the DPRK, Chongryon and Koreans in Japan, the Korean working class and trade union members will deal a stern punishment and strong retaliation on them.
They would be well advised to clearly see through the reality, stop at once the unethical and inhumane persecution and suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan and adequately apologize and compensate for the crimes Japan committed against the Korean nation in the past.
Japanese Authorities Urged to Stop Suppression of Chongryon
Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon) in south Korea reportedly made public a statement on Jan. 9 demanding the Japanese authorities immediately halt suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).
In May last year the Japanese authorities attached the label of "violation of the law on drug use" to a Korean woman in Japan as she brought medicines necessary for her health for the visit to the homeland. In November they went the length of searching her house and facilities related to Chongryon under the pretext that the medicines may be used in manufacturing biological weapons.
The statement charged that with the above-said case as a start, they are more desperately intensifying the suppression of Chongryon and Korean residents in Japan in various forms.
Crackdown on Chongryon and Korean residents and encroachment upon their rights, which have been committed under the patronage of the Japanese authorities, are prompted by Japan's scheme to revive militarism in a bid to trample on the Korean nation again and seize hegemony over Northeast Asia, it said, and went on:
The South Headquarters of Pomchonghakryon will conduct offensive solidarity struggle to foil the Japanese authorities' suppression of Chongryon and Korean residents under the banner of "By our nation itself."
We will wage a vigorous struggle, in close solidarity with compatriots at home and abroad, to frustrate the Japanese authorities' infringement upon the dignity of the Korean nation.
