Political Parties, Government and Organizations in DPRK Call for Promoting Cause of Reunification

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- Political parties, government and organizations of the DPRK issued a joint statement Wednesday representing the mission of the nation to make this significant year a year of turning point in history by giving a new momentum to the cause of national reunification and the will of all the Koreans to achieve it. The Korean nation's movement for reunification has entered into a new historic phase, the statement said, and went on:
    The DPRK's access to nukes is a great national event to be especially recorded in the national history spanning 5,000 years. This provided the Korean nation with a sure guarantee for reliably defending its dignity and sovereignty and the peace and security of the country and steadily glorifying the June 15 era of independent reunification.
    The Newspapers Rodong Sinmun, Joson Inmingun and Chongnyon Jonwi in a joint editorial for this year took a patriotic initiative to add brilliance to the June 15 reunification era by attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity.
    The north and the south of Korea should firmly adhere to the stand of giving importance to the nation, regard it as the best one, put the nation's dignity and interest above anything else, subordinate everything to them and maintain its independent stand, believing in its own strength, not other's.
    The political parties and organizations in south Korea should reject cooperation with outsiders doing harm to the fellow countrymen and positively opt for national cooperation from a pro-reunification and patriotic stand.
    All the Koreans in the north and the south and overseas should resolutely stand up against the U.S. nuclear racket and war moves against the DPRK, properly distinguishing the aggressive nature of the U.S. nukes and the peace-loving and nation-saving nature and mission of the DPRK's nukes and wage a more dynamic struggle to force the U.S. to pull back its troops, a source of war, from south Korea.
    The south Korean authorities should stop at once their arms buildup and joint military exercises targeted against compatriots.
    The "presidential elections" to be held in south Korea this year will be a scene of a fierce showdown to choose between peace and war and between reunification and continued division. All the patriotic south Koreans are called upon to form a great alliance against conservatism in order to decisively frustrate the plot of the conservative forces to return to power as it is aimed to spoil the gains made through the publication of the June 15 joint declaration and bring a war holocaust to this land.
    We ardently call on all the Koreans in the north and the south and overseas to turn out as one in the drive to make this year as a year of attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity.
    All the Koreans should broaden the ways of inter-Korean visits and meetings for reunification paved by the June 15 joint declaration and reenergize cooperation undertakings common to the nation including the tour of Mt. Kumgang and the construction of the Kaesong Industrial Zone.
    It is necessary to reinforce the June 15 All-Korean Committee and achieve the solidarity and alliance among all the Koreans in order to strengthen the driving force of national reunification movement.
    All political organizations, social organizations and the Koreans at home and abroad aspiring after peace and reunification of the country should actively support and uphold the great Songun policy, the lifeline of the nation.
    The U.S. should drop its anachronistic hostile policy toward the DPRK, halt its reckless nuclear row against the DPRK, give up its plot to stifle the latter through sanctions and stop unreasonably interfering in the issues of the Korean nation.
    It is our expectation and belief that the authorities, political parties and organizations of south Korea and all the Koreans at home and abroad would positively turn out in the nation-wide grand march for independent reunification and governments, political parties and organizations of all countries, international organizations, progressives in the world who value justice and truth would extend full support and solidarity to the Korean nation in its cause of independent and peaceful reunification.

Korean People's Greatest Holidays to Be Commemorated in Benin

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- The Benin Preparatory Committee for Commemorating the Day of the Sun and February 16 was inaugurated with due ceremony in Porto Novo on Jan. 5. Present at the inaugural ceremony were members of the Benin-Korea Amicable Association "Long Live Kim Jong Il, Supreme Leader" and the Benin National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea and of General Kim Jong Il's Works and public figures.
    Hessou Kohovi, chairman of the above-said amicable association and the national committee, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.
    The preparatory committee decided to hold multifarious functions including seminar, remembrance meeting and photo and book exhibition from January 10 to April 20.

Nicaraguan President on Friendly and Cooperative Ties with DPRK

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- The Sandinist National Liberation Front and the government of Nicaragua will boost the friendly and cooperative relations with the Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the DPRK in the future, too, as in the past. Daniel Ortega Saavedra, secretary general of the Sandinist National Liberation Front of Nicaragua and Nicaraguan president, said this on Jan. 10 when meeting the DPRK ambassador to Nicaragua who is special envoy of the Korean government attending the inaugural ceremony of the president.
    I always remember President Kim Il Sung who extended material and moral support and firm solidarity to Nicaragua in the past and received me, he said, hoping that the WPK and the Korean people would register great successes in socialist construction under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

DPRK's Joint New Year Editorial Supported in Mexico

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- Mexican political parties and organizations including the Socialist Party, the People's Socialist Party, the Fellowship Institute to Honor the Memory of President Kim Il Sung and the Institute for the Study of the Juche Idea made public a joint statement on Jan. 11 in support of the joint New Year editorial of the newspapers of the party, the army and the youth league in the DPRK. The joint New Year editorial serves as a great milestone for the Korean people advancing toward brilliant future, the statement said, and went on:
    We fully support the Korean people's struggle to defend the country's sovereignty and the national dignity.

U.S. Delegation's Tour of S. Korea Denounced

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- The Headquarters of All-People Campaign for Checking south Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement reportedly called a press conference at Inchon Airport on Jan. 14 to denounce the U.S. delegation's tour of south Korea for the sixth round of negotiations for the conclusion of south Korea-U.S. FTA. Speakers at the press conference said that the negotiations for the conclusion of FTA are being reduced into unfair negotiations with passage of time as they serve to meet the unilateral demands of the U.S. side only.
    The negotiations are no longer needed as they are nothing but a trick to pull the wool over the eyes of the people, they said, urging the U.S. delegation to immediately leave south Korea.

Suppression of Pro-Reunification Patriotic Forces in S. Korea Lambasted

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- The suppression of pro-reunification patriotic forces intensified by the south Korean security authorities from the outset of the new year is nothing but an anti-reunification action aimed to chill the south Korean society's desire to achieve reunification through an alliance with the north and block the national reconciliation and unity. Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed commentary.
    It goes on:
    This repressive campaign betrays the sinister aims of the Grand National Party (GNP) and other ultra-right conservatives of south Korea to create impression that its "security is threatened by the north" by linking those forces standing for progressive reforms with the DPRK in a bid to eliminate those forces supporting the June 15 joint declaration and secure a situation favorable for their contests in the "presidential elections".
    Such anti-DPRK fascist plot as "spy case" is no longer workable as it is nothing but the outdated last-ditch method employed by those reactionary and wicked force.
    The GNP and its followers are working hard to block the progressive development of the south Korean society and come to power by resorting to such hackneyed method. This folly will only invite self-destruction.
    The south Korean security authorities should stop the suppression of the progressive forces and immediately abolish the "National Security Law", a leftover of the era of confrontation, facing up to the trend of the times.

Total Renegotiation on Projected Expansion of U.S. Military Base Demanded in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Phyongthaek in south Korea reportedly held a press conference in front of the "defense ministry" on Jan. 12 and demanded a total renegotiation on the plan for the expansion of the U.S. military base. The press release read out at the press conference bitterly denounced the act of the "government" to pour blood taxes collected from the people into the building of the U.S. war base.
    Noting that the burden imposed upon the south Korean "government" for the expansion of the base goes far beyond 10 trillion won, the press release demanded the "government" put a prompt end to such hasty and humiliating undertaking for the expansion of the U.S. military base.
    Hidden in the reckless remarks of the U.S. forces commander in south Korea resorting to open threat with regard to the expansion of the base is the dastardly aim of shifting onto south Korea the maximum share of the burden for the expansion of the base, stated the press release.
    It declared that the committee would vigorously wage the struggle to push the demand for a total renegotiation of the plan for the expansion of the base.

Songun, Life and Soul of Korea

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- "Songun is the life and soul of the country and people and the dignity of the nation," says the joint New Year editorial. This reflects the truth the Korean people had keenly experienced in the course of the revolutionary struggle of Korea, which started and advanced under the banner of Songun. President Kim Il Sung, who laid down the slogan "Weapons are our life and soul! Oppose armed force with armed force!" in his early days and pioneered Songun, founded the revolutionary armed force, first of its kind in Korea, in April, Juche 21(1932), thus declaring a war against the one million-strong aggression troops of the Japanese imperialists.
    He created original guerrilla tactics to win one brilliant victory after another in the anti-Japanese war to accomplish the historic cause of national liberation in August 1945.
    After liberation he put forth the foundation of the revolutionary regular armed forces as one of the main tasks in building a new country and developed the Korean People's Revolutionary Army into a modern regular army in a short span of time.
    Thanks to the revolutionary armed forces, the servicepersons and people could defend with credit the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of the nation in the Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950-July 1953), which was started by the U.S. imperialists to conquer the DPRK in its cradle.
    In the postwar period the President set forth the slogan "Hold a rifle in one hand and a sickle and hammer in the other!" and simultaneously pushed ahead with the economic construction and defence upbuilding and, at the same time, developed and strengthened the KPA to be invincible one. As a result, he smashed every move of the U.S. imperialists and their followers to invade the DPRK.
    Kim Jong Il is brilliantly carrying forward the Songun-based idea and leadership of the President and always leading the Korean revolution along the road of victory under the banner of Songun. The Korean people elected him to be chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and Supreme Commander of the KPA. It was a special event in the Songun history of Korea.
    In the middle of the 1990s the leader frustrated the unprecedentedly intensified aggressive maneuvers of the imperialists and safeguarded the destiny of the country and people with the might of Songun to usher in a fresh heyday of building a great, prosperous and powerful nation.
    The Korean people are filled with a firm resolution to remain faithful to the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Rodong Sinmun on Guidelines for Korea's Independent Reunification

    Korea's reunification should be realized by the efforts of its nation responsible for it in accordance with its independent will and requirement.
    The principle of peaceful reunification is an important component of the three principles as it calls for realizing the national reunification by peaceful means, not through a war.

Friendly Meeting Held with Staff Members of Indian Embassy

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- The Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the Korea-India Friendship Association co-sponsored a friendly meeting with staff members of the Indian embassy here Thursday on the occasion of the 57th Day of the Republic. Present there on invitation were Indian Ambassador to the DPRK N.T. Khankhup and staff members of the embassy.
    Present there were Jon Yong Jin, vice-chairman of the above-said committee who is vice-chairman of the friendship association, and other members of the association.
    The participants in the meeting talked to one another about the need to boost the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and had amusement games, deepening the friendship.

Japanese Authorities' Suppression of Chongryon Denounced in Sweden

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- The Sweden-Korea Friendship Association strongly demands the Japanese authorities immediately stop the suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), compensate for the damage done to it and respect and guarantee the democratic national rights of the Koreans in Japan. The association made this demand in its letter to the prime minister of Japan on Jan. 12.
    Noting that the Japanese authorities have gone the lengths of backing the ultra-right forces' terrorism against Koreans in Japan, the letter went on:
    It is our view that this behavior runs counter to the international law and the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration.
    The Japanese authorities are now seriously threatening the rights of the Koreans in Japan and their security and inciting extreme hostility towards the Korean people instead of apologizing and compensating for the crimes committed against them in the past.
    What merits a more serious attention is that such actions are perpetrated in close collusion with the U.S. imperialists.
    Japan had better stop dancing to other's tune and strive for the regional peace for its own sake.

Japanese Reactionaries' Suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan Assailed

    Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- The reactionaries of the land of Japs are much upset and taken aback by the might of the DPRK, which enjoys high prestige and exercises strong influence on the international arena while winning one victory after another with Songun. The frantic campaign launched by them against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and Koreans against this backdrop is no more than their last-ditch efforts to tarnish the image of the DPRK at any cost.     The Japanese reactionaries are getting extremely hostile to Chongryon and Koreans in Japan and persecuting and suppressing them, making it hard for them to live in Japan for the mere reason that they support and follow the DPRK. This clearly proves once again that they are a pack of brutes in human skin and brazen-faced robbers whose means of living is high-handed practices and terrorism.
    The Japs hell-bent on unjustifiable terrorism against Chongryon and Koreans in Japan in gross violation of elementary human ethics and the international law are bound to be brought to a tribunal by the conscience of the world people who love truth and peace and face a stern judgment of the times and history.

Hoy, el movimiento de la nacion coreana por la reunificacion de la patria entro en una nueva etapa de la historia, senala el documento y continua:
    El que la RPDC haya llegado a contar con las armas nucleares deviene un gran y singular evento jubiloso en la historia nacional de 5 milenios. La nacion coreana llego a contar con una poderosa garantia para defender con seguridad su dignidad y soberania, la paz y la seguridad del pais y proseguir la epoca de reunificacion independiente iniciada el 15 de junio.
    Los periodicos Rodong Sinmun, Joson Inmingun y Chongnyon Jonwi dieron iniciativa patriotica de hacer brillar la epoca de la reunificacion del 15 de Junio, mediante la preponderancia de la nacion, la defensa de la paz y el logro de la union.

Rodong Sinmun denuncia campana anti-RPDC en Sur de Corea

    　En el trasfondo de ello, se halla el siniestro intento de las fuerzas conservadoras ultraderechistas, especialmente el "Gran Partido Nacional", de tomar ventajas en las "elecciones presidenciales" tras eliminar a las fuerzas partidarias de la Declaracion Conjunta del 15 de Junio al crear una supuesta "amenaza a la seguridad" relacionando a las fuerzas reformistas y progresistas con el Norte de Corea.
    　El "incidente de espias" y otras intrigas fascistas contra la RPDC constituyen el ultimo remedio de aquellos reaccionarios vulnerables, que ya resulta invalido en la epoca actual.
    　Las desesperadas maniobras del "Gran Partido Nacional" y las fuerzas satelites, orientadas a frenar el desarrollo progresista de la sociedad surcoreana y a retomar el poder, adelantaran solo la autodestruccion de si mismos.
    　Las autoridades surcoreanas de seguridad publica deben justipreciar la corriente de la epoca, poner de inmediato fin a la represion contra las fuerzas progresistas y abolir sin mas dilacion la "ley de seguridad", residuo del periodo de confrontacion.

Daniel Ortega se aboga por ampliar amistad y cooperacion con Corea

    Pyongyang, 18 de enero (ATCC) -- Daniel Ortega Saavedra, Secretario General del Frente Sandinista de Liberacion Nacional y presidente de la Republica de Nicaragua, subrayo que su Frente y gobierno de Nicaragua ampliaran y desarrollaran tambien en el futuro al igual que en el pasado las relaciones de amistad y cooperacion con el Partido del Trabajo de Corea y el gobierno de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea. El dia 10, el mandatario nicaraguense se reunio con el embajador extraordinario y plenipotenciario coreano en este pais, quien participo en la investidura del lider sandinista en calidad del enviado especial del gobierno de la RPDC.
    Tambien dijo que tiene presente el apoyo material y espiritual y la firme solidaridad enviados antes por el Presidente Kim Il Sung a Nicaragua y el encuentro con este y deseo que el PTC y el pueblo coreano bajo la sabia orientacion del Dirigente Kim Jong Il alcancen grandes exitos en la construccion del socialismo.

Songun es la vida de la patria y el pueblo

    Pyongyang, 18 de enero (ATCC) -- "Songun representa la vida de la Patria y el pueblo y la dignidad de la nacion". 　Esta idea ratificada en el editorial conjunto publicado en ocasion del Ano Nuevo por los periodicos Rodong Sinmun, Joson Inmingun y Chongnyon Jonwi refleja una verdad de que el pueblo coreano experimento en todo el curso de la ardua Revolucion Coreana, iniciada y avanzada con el Songun (priorizacion militar).
    　Bajo las consignas de "!Armas significan nuestra vida!" y "!Armas contra armas!", el Presidente Kim Il Sung dio el primer paso en el camino del Songun y fundo en abril del 21 (1932) de la Era Juche las primeras fuerzas armadas revolucionarias de Corea y declaro la guerra al ejercito japones de un millon de efectivos.
    　En los dias de la guerra antijaponesa, el Presidente alcanzo flamantes victorias en todos los combates aplicando originales metodos de combate de guerrilla y en agosto de 1945 cumplio por fin la historica causa de liberacion de la Patria.
    　Despues de liberada Corea, tomo la fundacion de las fuerzas armadas regulares por una de las tareas principales de la construccion de una nueva Patria y convirtio en un corto plazo el Ejercito Revolucionario Popular de Corea en un modernizado ejercito regular.
    　Estas fuerzas armadas revolucionarias y el pueblo de Corea defendieron honrosamente la soberania del pais y la dignidad nacional en la trienal Guerra de Liberacion de la Patria (de junio de 1950 a julio de 1953), provocada por los imperialistas yanquis para eliminar a la RPDC en su etapa inicial.
    　En los tiempos posbelicos, bajo la consigna de "Con el fusil en una mano y la hoz y el martillo en la otra", el Presidente impulso simultaneamente la construccion de la economia y la de defensa nacional.
    　Igualmente, frustro paso a paso las incesantes maniobras del imperialismo yanqui y las fuerzas satelites destinadas a agredir a la RPDC, al fortalecer de modo continuo el Ejercito Popular de Corea en las invencibles fuerzas armadas.
    　El pueblo coreano eligio como Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la RPDC y Comandante Supremo del EPC al Dirigente Kim Jong Il quien dando continuidad a la idea del Songun y la direccion del Presidente, conduce la Revolucion Coreana siempre a la victoria con la bandera del Songun en alto.
    　Esto devino un acontecimiento digno de registrarse con letras doradas en la historia del Songun de Corea.
    　A mediados de la decada de 1990, el Dirigente defendio el destino de la Patria y el pueblo y abrio una nueva era de prosperidad en la construccion de una gran potencia prospera llevando al fracaso con el poderio del Songun las cada dia mas agresivas maniobras de los imperialistas.
    　El pueblo coreano, que siente en carne propia que Songun representa la vida de la patria y de si mismo y la dignidad de la nacion, apoyara hasta el final la orientacion del genial Comandante Supremo sobre la revolucion mediante el Songun.
