Spokesman for DPRK Foreign Ministry on Results of DPRK-U.S. Talks

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK Friday gave the following answer to a question put by KCNA as regards the DPRK-U.S. talks held in Berlin: The talks between the DPRK and the U.S. were held in Berlin in accordance with the agreement reached between the two sides.
    The talks took place from Jan. 16 to 18 in a positive and sincere atmosphere and a certain agreement was reached there.
    We paid attention to the direct dialogue held by the DPRK and the U.S. in a bid to settle knotty problems in resolving the nuclear issue.

Kim Jong Il's Work Brought Out in Mongolia

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il's famous work "Socialism Is What Keeps Our People Alive" was brought out in booklet by a publishing house of Mongolia on Jan. 15. The work published on Nov. 14, Juche 81 (1992) underscores the need to preserve the world socialist movement and the cause of socialism and the tasks and ways for defending and advancing the cause of socialism.

Joint New Year Editorial of DPRK Studied

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- A seminar on the joint New Year editorial of Rodong Sinmun, Joson Inmingun and Chongnyon Jonwi titled "Usher in a Great Heyday of Songun Korea Full of Confidence in Victory", a briefing on it, a meeting introducing and supporting it and reading sessions were held in the Czech Republic, Peru, Nepal, Tanzania and Indonesia from Jan. 5 to 11. Jaroslav Kafka, chairman of the Paektusan Czech-Korean Friendship Association and chairman of the Czech Group for the Study and Materialization of the Juche Idea, said at the seminar that the great successes made by the DPRK in building a great prosperous powerful nation last year are a brilliant fruition of the Songun politics pursued by Kim Jong Il.
    The director of an Indonesian company at the briefing noted that the Songun politics is the most just one conducive to defending the sovereignty and dignity of the country and the nation and protecting the world peace and security.
    Ram K. Karmacharya, president of the National Press Club of Nepal, at the meeting for introducing and supporting the joint editorial said the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il, the single-minded unity in the DPRK and its self-reliant defence capability firmly guarantee the victory of the Korean people.
    Victor Oliva Miguel, general secretary of the Revolutionary Socialist Party of Peru, and Stepen John Maina, vice-chairman of the Tanzanian National Coordinating Committee of the Juche Idea Study Groups, at the reading sessions noted that the brilliant victory won by the DPRK last year gave hope and confidence to the world progressives, adding that they would as ever fully support the struggle of the Korean people.

Special Issue of Information Bulletin Published in Democratic Congo

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The Group for the Study of Kim Jong Il Juche Idea of Democratic Congo published a special issue of information bulletin titled "Comrade Kim Jong Il is the veteran and tested statesman, a great master in the art of leadership" on Jan. 12 on the occasion of the February holiday. It extended warm congratulations to leader Kim Jong Il on the occasion of his birthday.
    Introducing his unique mode of creation, the bulletin noted that Kim Jong Il is a great thinker and theoretician and the great leader of the cause of global independence.

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The U.S. Group for the Study of Songun Politics opened a new "Songun video column" on its Internet homepage "The Red Banner of Songun" on Jan. 5. The homepage carries the portraits of the three generals of Mt. Paektu.

Korean People's Greatest Holidays to Be Commemorated in Russia

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The Preparatory Committee for Commemorating the Day of the Sun and February 16 of the United Confederation of Koreans in Russia was inaugurated on Jan. 15. The preparatory committee decided to hold diverse events including a meeting, book and photo exhibition and publish a special issue of the information bulletin Thongil with a view to widely introducing the greatness of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il to the Koreans in Russia during the period from Feb. 1 to Apr. 20.
    An Hyang Jin, chairman of the United Confederation of Koreans in Russia, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee at the inaugural ceremony.

Stop to S. Korea-U.S. FTA Negotiations Demanded

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The Headquarters of the All-People Campaign for Checking south Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement called a press conference in Seoul on Jan. 15 and demanded a stop to the sixth round of negotiations for the conclusion of the FTA, according to the south Korean CBS. The organization noted that the south Korean "government" has got nothing in nearly one year since the FTA negotiations began.
    Urging the "government" to promptly call off the ruinous negotiations, the organization declared it would show the people's will through rallies and other forms of struggle against the negotiations.
    Earlier, nine assemblymen from the Democratic Labour Party of south Korea including Kwon Yong Gil and Sim Sang Jong went on a hunger strike in Seoul in demand of a stop to the negotiations.

Jargon of U.S. Forces Commander in S. Korea Flailed

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations of south Korea including the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification, the Reunification Solidarity and the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly called a news conference in front of the U.S. military base in Ryongsan, Seoul, on Jan. 11 to denounce the blast of the commander of the U.S. forces in south Korea. Speakers at the news conference recalled that he had unhesitatingly let loose the balderdash on Jan. 9 that should the south Korea-U.S. agreement on the transfer of the military base to Phyongthaek by 2008 be miscarried due to political reasons or budget problem, the U.S. would stand up against it.
    They declared that they would never tolerate his behavior threatening the people but fight against it.
    The press release read out at the news conference urged him to apologize to the people for his bellicose and arrogant threat and immediately retract the demand for the burden on south Korea for the transfer of the base.
    It warned that the people would no more pardon the U.S., if it tried to force unilateral concession and sufferings upon south Korea again.

Anniversary of June Popular Uprising to Be Marked in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- A ceremony was reportedly held in Seoul on Jan. 14 to declare the start of the campaign to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the June Uprising for democracy. At the ceremony the committee for promoting the commemorations of the 20th anniversary of the June uprising for democracy referred to the fact that a seminar was held on Jan. 11 to set June 10 as commemoration day, and stressed the need to inherit the fighting spirit of the uprisers.
    The committee said that from that day it would conduct the commemorations of the 20th anniversary of the uprising across south Korea and abroad and hold "civilians' festival for democracy" in Seoul and provinces and various events including lecture and symposium on June 10.
    A declaration on the commemorations of the 20th anniversary of the uprising was read out at the ceremony.

Joint Statement of Parties, Government and Organizations Supported

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang-based papers today carry commentaries in support of the joint statement issued by the political parties, government and organizations in the DPRK for the purpose of ushering in the heyday of the cause of national reunification this year in conformity with the realistic requirement of the development of national history and the desire of the fellow countrymen. The main spirit of the statement is that all the Koreans should effect a great upswing in the cause of national reunification by turning out as one in the fulfillment of the three tasks laid down in the joint New Year editorial: attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity.
    Noting that the call for making this year "a year of attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity" is a very opportune patriotic call for reunification, which represents the realistic requirement of the movement for national reunification, the Rodong Sinmun analyst goes on:
    Now the Koreans in the north, the south and overseas are heading for reconciliation, unity and reunification hand in hand, guided by the idea of "By our nation itself". The anti-reunification forces within and without, however, are desperately clinging to anti-reunification moves, feeling uneasiness about this. The United States is putting pressure upon the south Korean authorities in an effort to throw a snag on the process of inter-Korean reconciliation while maliciously pursuing a hostile policy towards the DPRK with the sinister intention to block up the progress of the June 15 reunification era. With the south Korean anti-reunification forces following the U.S. in this, the peace of the country is endangered and dark clouds are hanging over the movement of national reunification.
    The Koreans should lift high the banner of attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity, if they are to open the way of security and prosperity of the nation, repulsing the challenges of the anti-reunification forces at home and abroad. Only when the Koreans keep a tight hold on the above three tasks can they defend and promote the interests of the nation, smashing the outrageous interference and pressure of outside forces and the moves of the anti-reunification forces of south Korea for confrontation and war.
    The Minju Joson analyst calls upon all the Koreans to accelerate the reunification movement in response to the patriotic appeal to make this year "a year of attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity" and turn out in the endeavors to fulfil these three tasks, full of conviction of victory.

Deserved Punishment upon Provokers

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- Forty years have passed since Escort Ship 56 was sent to the bottom of the sea while perpetrating provocations against the DPRK. The U.S. imperialists and the south Korean war-hawks had infiltrated 35 naval vessels of various types into the territorial waters of the DPRK on 28 occasions from December 30, 1966 to January 13, 1967.
    On January 19, 1967 they sent Escort Ship 56 to the point of north latitude 38 degrees 40.7 minutes and east longitude 128 degrees 26.3 minutes for the purpose of spying out the coast defence forces of the DPRK, 3.9 miles north of the extension of the military demarcation line on the sea.
    The warship bombarded scores of rounds of shells on coastal area of the DPRK.
    A coast artillery sub-unit of the heroic Korean People's Army took a decisive self-defence measure to open fire on and sink the warship at 14:30.
    This was a deserved punishment the KPA inflicted on those who were engaged in reckless provocations in gross violation of the Korean Armistice Agreement, defying the repeated warnings on the part of the DPRK side and the protest by the fair public opinion of the world.
    The miserable end of Escort Ship 56 clearly shows that the foolish provocations of the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean war-maniacs are bound to meet fiasco and will be visited only with corpses and death.

Dear Fellow of Life

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The revolutionary poems and songs are the close fellow of the Korean people in their life and struggle. Inspired by the full-length epic "Mt. Paektu", lyric "Korea Is Fighting" and songs "My Song in Trench" and "Song of Postwar Rehabilitation and Construction", the Korean people won a victory in the Fatherland Liberation War and made great successes in the building a new country and a rich and powerful nation.

Great Programme for Juche-based Literature

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- Many literary works have been created in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, enriching the treasure-house of Juche literature. The famous work of Kim Jong Il "On Juche Literature" (January 20, 1992) is the guideline which has been taken in bringing about a rapid development of the Juche literature.
    Incorporated in the work are deep-going theories on the building of the Juche-based literature from the view of the times, literature and art to the issue of the heritage of national literature and art, the issue of tradition of the revolutionary literature and art and the issue of portraying the socio-political organism, the leader in particular, which is an eternal description source of the DPRK literature.
    It also comprehensively clarifies the issues of applying the seed theory of works, description principles and methods and the genres and forms of literature into creation.
    The last 15 years are a significant period in which the validity and vitality of Kim Jong Il's idea and theory on the Juche-based literature have been fully proved and many literary and art works to be handed down through the times and history created.
    Among them are full-length novels including the cycles of novels "Immortal History" and "Immortal Guidance," and the epic "Our Eternal Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung" and the song "Leader Is Always With Us."
    Illusion, verse and intellectual novels have been created in the field of the novels and sonnets of different genres and poems have been written to develop the Korean literature in diversified way.
    In particular, the Songun-based revolutionary literature has come into being in the Songun era to back the Songun-based politics of the Workers' Party of Korea ideologically and emotionally, thus boosting the Juche-oriented ethology depicting the revolutionary practice in a realistic and truthful way onto higher phase.
    Fully reflecting the spirit of the times are the novels "Arms", "Kanggye Spirit" and "With Arms" which are included in the cycle of novels "Immortal Guidance", the full-length novel "Burning Desire", scenarios "Days of Military Service" and "Notes of a Woman Soldier", an epic "The Arms of Mt. Paektu Will Be Immortal", a selection of poems "Song of the Soldier", words of a song "Ours is Soldier Family", "Those We Call on Ahead of Others" and light comedies "Promise" and "Comrade".

Dangerous U.S.-Japan Military Nexus under Fire

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- Armed forces of the United States and Japan are staging frequent military maneuvers jointly or separately, exchanging visits to their respective areas. This indicates that their military integration has reached a grave phase. This is a blatant challenge to the humankind aspiring after peace against war. Rodong Sinmun Friday says this in a signed article. It goes on: Shortly ago, a U.S.-Japan joint military exercise took place in the U.S. naval base in Sasebo of Nagasaki in the land of Japs for five days and a ceremony of inaugurating a PAC-3 unit, the first of its kind to be deployed in Japan, was held in the U.S. air force base in Kadena of Okinawa at the end of last year. The Japanese reactionaries test-fired in the U.S. new type land to air interceptor missile "Ts-SAM" manufactured in Japan.
    The U.S. and Japanese reactionaries have systematically supplemented and rounded off their joint military operation plan and order of action since the end of the Cold War. They are now becoming undisguised in their moves to spread their operation theatre worldwide, while tightening their military alliance.
    The military alliance and cooperation being tightened by the U.S. and Japan with increased zeal are aimed at rounding off the U.S.-Japan offensive system targeted against the whole of Asia including Northeast Asia and igniting a new war of aggression.
    What merits a more serious attention is that their reinforced military alliance is not targeted against Northeast Asia only. The "joint strategic goal" set by the U.S. and Japan was a prelude to the emergence of the U.S.-Japan alliance for invading the whole world as it meant their shared strategic goals in the military and security fields to cope with what they called "new threats" in the new century.
    The U.S. and Japan pin particular hope on the collusion and tie-up in the field of missile defense, while reinforcing their military alliance.
    They agreed to deploy the already improved new type interceptor missiles in a U.S. military base in Okinawa and, accordingly, bring additional U.S. troops to it. They concluded an agreement on the expansion of the ballistic missile defense plan which calls for jointly producing interceptor missiles and requires Japan to offer technology of ballistic missile defense to the U.S.
    Frequent is the drill for getting ready in advance for using the joint missile defense system in an actual war.
    What draws a particular attention in the tightened military alliance is that the DPRK is made its primary target.
    The article calls on the world peace-loving people to heighten vigilance against the evermore undisguised moves of the U.S. and Japan to tighten their military nexus and launch a dynamic joint struggle to frustrate it.

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- A communique on cooperation between the Korea Post and Telecommunication Corporation and the Orascom Telecom Holding of Egypt was made public Friday. The communique says:
    The delegation of the Orascom Telecom Holding of Egypt headed by its vice-chairman visited Pyongyang from January 13 to 19, 2007.
    During the visit, the Korea Post and Telecommunication Corporation and the Orascom Telecom Holding of Egypt discussed the issues related to cooperation in the sector of telecommunication of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

DPRK-Iranian Cultural and Scientific Exchange Plan Signed

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- A 2007-2009 plan for cultural and scientific exchange between the governments of the DPRK and Iran was inked here on Friday. Kim Jong Il Gives Field Guidance to Industrial Establishments in Huichon City

    Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to industrial establishments in Huichon City. The first leg of his guidance was the Huichon Machine-Tool Factory.
    He went round the room devoted to the history of the factory, guided by senior officials of the factory.
    He went round different production processes to learn in detail about the progress made in the technological updating and modernization of the factory and production there.
    Watching the automated production processes and newly manufactured modern machine-tools, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the factory has improved its technical equipment and mass-produced efficient machine-tools in a brief span of time and ensured a high level of cultured practice in the production at the factory.

    The last leg of his guidance was the Huichon Ceramic Factory.

    The most important task facing the factory is to decisively improve the quality of products, he said, adding in order to successfully settle this problem it is necessary to steadily elevate the level of technical skill of the workers and technicians and, at the same time, widely apply advanced technology.

Periodicos publican comentarios de apoyo a declaracion conjunta

    Pyongyang, 19 de enero (ATCC) -- Los periodicos capitalinos insertaron en sus ediciones del dia 19 comentarios de apoyo a la declaracion conjunta de los partidos politicos, el gobierno y las organizaciones de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, publicada con el objetivo de hacer de este ano un punto de viraje para abrir una nueva era en el cumplimiento de la causa de reunificacion de la patria, conforme a la demanda real del curso de la historia nacional y a la aspiracion de la nacion. El espiritu fundamental de la declaracion conjunta es lograr un gran viraje en la realizacion de la causa de reunificacion mediante la incorporacion unanime de toda la nacion al cumplimiento de las tres tareas: la preponderancia de la nacion, la defensa de la paz y el logro de la union, tareas indicadas en el editorial conjunto de 2007.
    La exhortacion de hacer del presente un "ano de la preponderancia de la nacion, la defensa de la paz y el logro de la union" es la patriotica y muy oportuna que refleja la demanda real del movimiento por la reunificacion de la patria, senala el comentario del diario Rodong Sinmun y prosigue:
    Todos los coreanos del Norte, el Sur y en ultramar aspiran a lograr la reconciliacion, la unidad y la reunificacion, bajo el ideal de "entre nosotros, los connacionales". Pero las fuerzas internas y externas anti-reunificacion maniobran desesperadamente para frenar esta corriente nacional. EE.UU. persigue obstinadamente la politica hostil a Corea con la taimada intencion de impedir la tendencia de la epoca de reunificacion iniciada el 15 de junio y ejerce presion sobre las autoridades surcoreanas para impedir el proceso de la reconciliacion Norte-Sur. Tambien las fuerzas anti-reunificacion del Sur de Corea se adhieren a tales maniobras, debido a lo cual se ve amenazada la paz del pais y cierne una silueta negra en el proceso del movimiento por la reintegracion del pais.
    Para rechazar los desafios de las fuerzas internas y externas anti-reunificacion y allanar el camino de la seguridad y la prosperidad del pais, nuestra nacion debe enarbolar la bandera de la preponderancia de la nacion, la defensa de la paz y el logro de la union. Solo cuando mantiene estas tareas de tres puntos es posible frustrar las intervenciones y presiones de toda indole de las fuerzas foraneas y las maquinaciones de confrontacion y guerra de las fuerzas anti-reunificacion del Sur de Corea y realizar los intereses de la nacion.
    El periodico Minju Joson apunta que toda la nacion coreana, con firme conviccion en la victoria, debe impulsar con mas vigor el movimiento por la reunificacion en respuesta a la exhortacion patriotica de hacer del presente un "ano de la preponderancia de la nacion, la defensa de la paz y el logro de la union" y de incorporarse a la empresa para llevarlo a efecto.

MINREX se refiere al dialogo bipartita con EE.UU.

    Pyongyang, 19 de enero (ATCC) -- En entrevista exclusiva con la Agencia Telegrafica Central de Corea, el portavoz de la cancilleria de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea hizo este viernes las siguientes declaraciones en cuanto al dialogo con Estados Unidos celebrado en Berlin: Recientemente, tuvo lugar en Berlin el dialogo entre la RPDC y EE.UU. a tenor de un acuerdo entre ambas partes.
    Se lograron ciertos consensos en este encuentro, que tuvo lugar del 16 al 18 en un clima positivo y sincero.
    Sobre todo, la RPDC tomo en consideracion el mismo hecho de haber entablado un contacto directo con EE.UU. con miras a resolver los puntos problematicos surgidos en el problema nuclear.

Rodong Sinmun condena colaboracion militar EE.UU.-Japon

    Pyongyang, 19 de enero (ATCC) -- El diario Rodong Sinmun difundio este viernes un articulo individual revelando que las fuerzas armadas estadounidenses y las japonesas escenifican a menudo acciones militares de manera conjunta o por separado en sus respectivas zonas jurisdiccionales. Siendo un abierto desafio a la aspiracion de la humanidad pacifista que se opone a la guerra, este hecho insinua que entra en etapa alarmante la unificacion militar entre ambos paises, adelanta el articulista y prosigue:
    Hace unos dias, en la base naval norteamericana de Sasebo enclavada en el departamento de Nagasaki del pais japi tuvieron lugar durante 5 dias las maniobras militares conjuntas Estados Unidos-Japon.
    A fines del ano expirado, en la base aerea norteamericana de Kadena en el departamento de Okinawa se efectuo la ceremonia de fundacion de la primera unidad de misiles antibalisticos "PAC-3" en el pais isleno mientras los reaccionarios islenos probaron en territorio estadounidense el lanzamiento del sofisticado misil tierra-aire "Ts-SAM" de fabricacion japonesa.
    Despues del fin de la Guerra Fria, los reaccionarios de los dos paises perfeccionaron sistematicamente el plan de operacion militar conjunta y la norma de accion.
    En los ultimos tiempos, maniobran abiertamente para ampliar el teatro operacional a todo el mundo estrechando mas la alianza militar.
    Estas acciones criminales tienen por su proposito ultimar el sistema ofensivo bilateral contra todo el continente asiatico, en especial, el Nordeste Asiatico y provocar luego una nueva guerra de agresion.
    En tanto, la "meta estrategica comun", planteada por los dos paises, enumera los objetivos estrategicos comunes de estos en el campo militar y el de seguridad para hacer frente a las "nuevas amenazas" del nuevo siglo. Ella significo el inicio de la liga bilateral de corte agresivo que tiene puesta su mirilla en todo el orbe.
    EE.UU. y Japon cifran especial esperanza en la colaboracion en el dominio de misiles.
    Pues, ya acordaron emplazar en la base norteamericana en Okinawa los remodelados misiles antibalisticos y mas tropas gringas.
    Ademas suscribieron un convenio sobre la ampliacion del plan de defensa de misil balistico, fundamentado en la coproduccion del cohete antibalistico y la entrega a EE.UU. de la tecnologia de defensa del primer artefacto por parte del pais japi.
    Por otra parte, desarrollan con frecuencia los ejercicios para activar en la guerra real el sistema antimisiles implantado en conjunto.
    Lo que produce mas precaucion es que ambos paises fijaron a la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea como el primer blanco de ataque.
    Los pueblos del mundo amantes de la paz deben redoblar la vigilancia ante tales movimientos y librar una intensa lucha conjunta por llevarlos al fracaso.
