Finnish Preparatory Committee Formed

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- The Preparatory Committee for Commemorating the Day of the Sun and February 16 was formed by the Executive Committee of the Finland-Korea Society on Jan. 22. Chairman Esko Koskinen and Secretary General Juha Kieksi of the society were elected chairmen of the preparatory committee.
    The preparatory committee decided to host a meeting, a film show and various other functions on the occasion of the Day of the Sun and the February holiday.

Joint Statement of DPRK Political Parties, Government and Organizations Supported

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- The Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Committee of Nepal, the National Press Club of Nepal, the Nepalese Committee for Promotion of Reunification of Korea, the Peace Action Committee of Nepal and the Forum for Self-Reliance Studies of Nepal issued a joint statement on Jan. 24 supporting the joint statement of the political parties, government and organizations of the DPRK. The statement extended solidarity to all the Korean people in the north, the south and overseas struggling to add shine to this year as the era of June 15 reunification and make it a year of historic turn in accomplishing the cause of independent and peaceful reunification.
    It called upon the political parties and organizations of south Korea and the world peace-loving people to intensify the struggle to force the United States to withdraw its troops and military equipment from south Korea and pull down the concrete wall bisecting the Korean Peninsula. It also strongly demanded the U.S. administration discontinue interfering in the internal affairs of Korea and respect the cherished desire of the Korean people to live in a reunified land.

Coordinating Meeting of International Council for Settlement of Japan's Past Crimes

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- A coordinating meeting of the International Council for Solidarity with the Struggle for the Settlement of Japan's Past Crimes was held in Taipei of China on Jan. 20 and 21. Present there were delegates and personages from various countries and regions demanding Japan's settlement of its past including the DPRK, China, the Netherlands, the Philippines, the United States and Japan.
    The meeting heard the information about the activities of organizations and personages of various countries and regions after the fourth meeting of the council held in Manila in August last year.
    The meeting bitterly denounced the Japanese reactionaries for craftily attempting to evade the state responsibility for the issue of the "comfort women" drafted for the imperial Japanese army and hush up the issue of the remains of victims of forcible drafting of Koreans, while upgrading the Defence Agency to a ministry and becoming all the more outspoken in their maneuvers to step up the retrogressive revision of the constitution and the fundamental law of education.
    The meeting discussed and decided upon concrete measures and ways for invigorating international solidarity activities. It called for intensifying activities urging parliaments of different countries to adopt resolutions and others demanding a settlement to the issue related to the "comfort women" and building global public opinion sharply denouncing through the UN human rights organizations the Japanese authorities' inhumane act of leaving uncared the remains of victims of forcible drafting of Koreans though more than 60 years have passed since the defeat of Japan in the war and demanding its early solution. It also called for undertaking activities to condemn and reject the ever more blatant moves of the Japanese reactionaries to distort history and militarize the country and thwart the attempt of Japan to get UNSC permanent membership while avoiding apology and compensation for its past crimes.

GNP Denounced for Inciting National Confrontation

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration in south Korea reportedly held a meeting on Jan. 24 to denounce the "Grand National Party" for fanning up national confrontation. The resolution read out at the meeting recalled that the GNP on Jan. 19 put pressure on the "government" to stop inter-Korean cooperation and exchange, crying that "the lifting of sanctions against the north must not be discussed at the six-party talks".
    The crisis of war on the Korean Peninsula has heightened because the United States ran riot in its hostile policy toward the DPRK and planning of a preemptive nuclear attack on it in violation of the agreement with it, the resolution said, and went on:
    This being a hard reality, the GNP is inciting national confrontation, parroting the U.S. claim that the north should give up its nuclear program first.
    It demanded a prompt dissolution of the GNP which is whipping up national confrontation, not caring a dime for the outbreak of a war on this land owing to the U.S. moves for a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula.

S. Korean Army Announces Plan for "Combat Drill in Severe Cold"

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- The 20th Division of the south Korean army announced that it would stage a "combat drill in severe cold" in the areas of Yangphyong and Ryoju, Kyonggi Province, according to south Korean KBS. The war-thirsty elements of the military said they were planning to mobilize huge military hardware including tanks in the war rehearsal scheduled from Jan. 29 to Feb. 2.
    When all the fellow countrymen are lifting up louder voices than ever before calling for defending peace with concerted efforts, the south Korean bellicose forces are still clinging to reckless war exercises by taking advantage of the aggressive moves of the U.S. imperialists on the Korean Peninsula.

Complete Collection of Kim Il Sung's Works Vol. 67 Off Press

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- Complete Collection of Kim Il Sung's Works Vol. 67 was brought out by the Workers' Party of Korea Publishing House. It is the library of the immortal Juche idea which carries his famous works systematically and comprehensively on a chronological order. Contained in the book are 31 famous works such as historic speeches, concluding addresses and talks made by President Kim Il Sung from May to August, Juche 67 (1978).
    It deals with the original ideas, theories and policies set forth by him for the revolutionary struggle of the Korean people to effect a great upswing in socialist construction and the victory of the cause of global independence with his extraordinary intelligence and outstanding foresight.

Investigation to Probe into Truth behind Past History Declared

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Committee of Arrangement of Past History for Truth and Reconciliation reportedly gave a press briefing on Jan. 23 and declared that it was entering into an investigation to probe into the truth behind the past history. Speakers there said the committee had received applications for investigation into the sufferings of past victims and the greater part of them turned out to be related to massacre of civilians by the south Korean army, police and right-wing forces.

No Force on Earth Can Ever Stop Koreans' Dynamic Advance for Independent Reunification

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- No force on earth can ever stop the dynamic advance of the Korean nation for independent reunification full of conviction of sure victory and optimism, Rodong Sinmun Monday says in a signed article. It goes on:
    The movement of Koreans for reunification is undergoing throes and ups and downs due to the separatists at home and abroad. But it is an inexorable law of historical development that the historic cause of achieving national independence is sure to be crowned with a final victory.
    It is an inevitable trend of the national history and a legitimate requirement for national development that the Korean nation who had been divided into two by the outsiders is sure to become one.
    After the defeat of the Japanese imperialists the U.S. imperialists occupied south Korea and have since imposed upon the Koreans the tragedy resulting from national division and infringed upon their sovereignty. However, this can never quell the desire and will of the Koreans to put an end to the history of division and achieve national reunification and thus realize independence.
    The June 15 era of reunification had to undergo hardships and trials due to the desperate efforts of the outsiders and anti-reunification forces. But it has been preserved and advanced along the orbit of independent reunification thanks to the strong desire of all the Koreans and their staunch struggle for reunification. "By our nation itself", the idea guiding the era, has served as a banner guiding the national movement for independent reunification despite difficulties and hardships. All the Koreans are waging a dynamic movement for independent reunification, while frustrating the moves of the outsiders and sycophantic and treacherous forces for a war and their anti-reunification campaign. This reality goes to prove that the history of the Korean nation is making dynamic progress toward independent reunification despite blatant challenge and test of history.

Reckless Remarks of Commander of U.S. Forces in S. Korea under Fire

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- Some days ago, the commander of the U.S. imperialist aggression troops in south Korea stressed the need to keep the "UN Command" even in peacetime to cope with the wartime, asserting that the role of the "UN Commander" should not be weakened even after the disbandment of the U.S.-south Korea "combined forces command" in the wake of the transfer of the "right to control wartime operation." In this regard, Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary terms his outcry reckless remarks betraying the U.S. bellicose forces' design to perpetuate the U.S. forces' presence in south Korea and invade the DPRK.
    The commentary goes on:
    The U.S. imperialists are asserting that it is necessary to keep the "UN Command" even after the disbandment of the U.S.-south Korea "combined forces command," talking about the "vacuum in the military command system." This is prompted by their sinister intention to perpetuate the presence of their forces in south Korea and invade the DPRK and, furthermore, continue abusing the name of UN for the purpose of maintaining their military hegemony in the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia.
    The U.S. imperialists' plan to transfer the "right to control wartime operation" to the south Korean army and disband the "combined forces command" does not mean that they are ready to terminate the U.S. forces' presence in south Korea and give up the right to command and control the south Korean army and their moves for a war against the DPRK.
    This is clearly evidenced by the remarks made by the commander of the U.S. forces in south Korea about the necessity to keep the "UN Command."
    All the facts patently prove that the U.S. bellicose forces are chiefly to blame for wrecking peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and bringing the dark clouds of a nuclear war to hang over it.

U.S. Imperialists' Preparations for Biological and Chemical War Flailed

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- The United States is a ferocious aggressor who does not hesitate to use very homicidal weapons of mass destruction (WMD) to meet its aggressive interests and an inhuman criminal state posing a grave threat to the existence and security of humankind. Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed commentary. Citing the crime-woven history of the U.S. imperialists in which they have used Koreans as targets of their biological and chemical warfare since the period of the past Korean war in a bid to carry out their policy of domination over Korea, the commentary goes on:
    The U.S. imperialists started the horrible biological and chemical warfare against the Korean people on Jan. 28, 1952 on a full scale to recover from their setbacks in the war.
    From that day to March 25 of the same year, the U.S. imperialists dropped different types of germ bombs containing bacteria of cholera, typhus and pest in more than 400 areas in the northern half of Korea over 700 times. In the subsequent period, too, they used toxic gas bombs and poisonous chemical weapons, massacring Koreans.
    They shipped defoliant into south Korea in the 1960s and then built at least 10 toxic gas factories to mass-produce various types of chemical weapons.
    The U.S. scenario for biological and chemical warfare became evermore undisguised after the appearance of the Bush administration.
    It is said that a large laboratory covering an area of 27,000 square feet is now under construction in Maryland which is expected to kick off experiments for germ warfare by use of such malignant germs as bacillus anthraces and Yesinia pestis from late this year or from the next year.
    It is by no means fortuitous that the U.S. has always included chemical warfare exercises in all the large-scale war exercises including "Ulji Focus Lens" military exercise in south Korea.
    There is the increasing danger of the outbreak of the second Korean war to be accompanied by biochemical warfare on the Korean Peninsula due to the U.S. imperialists' war moves. This cannot but be a grave menace to the very existence and security of the Korean people and the rest of humankind.

Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Observed

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 4th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's famous work "Songun-Based Revolutionary Line Is a Great Revolutionary Line of Our Era and an Ever-Victorious Banner of Our Revolution". The work, published on Jan. 29, Juche 92 (2003), clarifies the theoretical and practical issues arising in enforcing the Songun politics including the essence and nature of the Songun politics, its starting point and scientific theoretical analysis of the circumstances of the present times, a new view and viewpoint on the issue related to the main force of the revolution and on the role of the revolutionary army, the reason why the People's Army was put forward as the main force of the Korean revolution and the factor that prompted the People's Army to creditably perform such mission and duty.

Information and Motivational Activities Brisk in DPRK

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- A brisk motivational campaign for inspiring the entire people to implementing the tasks set forth by the joint New Year editorial has been undertaken in the DPRK. Thaechon Youth Power Station No. 4

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- The Thaechon Youth Power Station No. 4 has been built in Thaechon, North Phyongan Province of the DPRK, one more edifice of the era of the Workers' Party of Korea. Its construction was initiated in accordance with the far-reaching plan of President Kim Il Sung for erecting large hydro-power stations in the Thaechon area by the Juche-oriented unique method of developing water-power resources.
    True to the behests of the President, the people of North Phyongan Province successfully carried out the gigantic project in a few years with their own efforts and technology.
    At the final stage of the dam project, the dam was exposed to danger owing to the long-spell of rain. Then, the youth shock brigade members and working people of Nyongbyon County devotedly saved the dam from the torrential water by carrying earth-packed bags on their back, thus making a decisive breakthrough in the construction of the power station.
    The builders, with this spirit, excavated earth for the foundations of the generating room and the sluiceway in the biting cold water in the depth of the winter and ran some 40 kilometers a day to carry gravels, sand and concrete mixture.
    Workers of the machine-building plants in Rakwon, Kusong and other areas of the province manufactured facilities needed for the power station in time under manifold difficulties, thus contributing to completing the construction ahead of the set-time.
    The dam built across the broad Taeryong River, the large artificial lake, generating room and power distribution room are the fruition of the devoted efforts bent by the constructors to build the power station as a grand monumental edifice.
    In those days, "The River Taeryong Tells", the collection of works written by them has seen the light.
    The recent completion following to the Thaechon Youth Power Stations Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 5 makes it possible to effectively use the water resources abundant in the north-western area of the country in producing electricity and supplying ample irrigation water to the west coast area.
    While looking round the Thaechon Youth Power Station No. 4 some time ago, Kim Jong Il highly appreciated the heroic feats performed by the constructors in building the great edifice which would shine long in history, saying that it was the spirit and mettle of Thaechon.

Protest Voiced against Japanese Reactionaries' Moves against DPRK and Chongryon

    Pyongyang, January 29 (KCNA) -- The National Executive Committee of the Polish Communist Party and the Finland-Korea Society on Jan. 21 and 22 sent letters to the Japanese embassies in their countries in protest against the Japanese reactionaries' hostile policy toward the DPRK and their suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). The National Executive Committee of the Polish Communist Party in its letter said the persecution and repression committed in the form of search of organs under Chongryon and houses of its officials and blocking of trips and contacts are obviously an encroachment upon the rights of the Koreans in Japan and a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter.
    The letter of the Finland-Korea Society warned that the suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan by the Japanese authorities would result in further aggravating the DPRK-Japan relations, inciting the anti-Japanese sentiments of the Korean people and destabilizing the regional situation.
    Expressing concern over the act of the Japanese authorities trying to take issue even with goods of the category of humanitarian cooperation, the letters demanded a prompt stop to it.

    Pyongyang, 29 de enero (ATCC) -- Estados Unidos es un pais agresor que recurre sin escrupulos al uso de las armas de exterminio masivo para lograr su objetivo agresivo y un Estado criminal antietico que amenaza gravemente la vida y seguridad de la humanidad en el globo terraqueo. 　Senala el rotativo Rodong Sinmun en un comentario individual publicado en su edicion del dia 29, revelando con testimonios detallados la historia criminal del imperio americano que ya desde el periodo de la pasada guerra coreana utilizo las armas bioquimicas contra el pueblo coreano para realizar su dominio sobre Corea.
    El 28 de enero de 1952, periodo de la guerra coreana, los imperialistas norteamericanos utilizaron las armas bioquimicas contra el pueblo coreano para remediar su derrota en la guerra, recuerda el comentarista y continua:
    Desde aquel dia hasta el 25 de marzo del mismo ano los yanquis lanzaron en mas de 700 ocasiones las bombas bacteriologicas mortiferas como las de colera, tifus y peste a mas de 400 zonas de la parte Norte de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea. Despues, masacraron a los coreanos valiendose de las armas quimicas venenosas como las bombas de gases toxicos.
    Ya en la decada de 1960 introdujeron el defoliante en el Sur de Corea y posteriormente construyeron mas de diez fabricas de gases toxicos que se pusieron a producir gran cantidad de armas quimicas de toda indole.
    El designio de guerra bioquimica se torna mas abierto con la aparicion de la administracion Bush.
    Se dice que en el magno laboratorio con una superficie de 4 mil 500 phyong (un phyong equivale a 3.3 metros cuadrados), que se construye en el Estado de Maryland de EE.UU., se efectuaran activamente desde finales del ano presente o desde el proximo ano las pruebas de la guerra bioquimica mediante las bacterias de antrax, peste, hemorragia, etc.
    En el "Ulji Focus Lens" y otros simulacros militares de gran envergadura que efectua EE.UU. en el Sur de Corea se incluye el ejercicio de guerra quimica, debido a lo cual sobre la Peninsula Coreana se cierne el nubarron de nueva guerra bioquimica, que amenaza gravemente la vida y seguridad del pueblo coreano y de los demas pueblos del mundo.

Rechazan intento de EE.UU. de perpetuar ocupacion de Sur de Corea

    Pyongyang, 29 de enero (ATCC) -- Hace unos dias, el comandante de las tropas agresoras norteamericanas ocupantes del territorio surcoreano dijo que "es necesario mantener tambien en tiempos de paz la suponiendo una posible guerra" mientras insistia en que no se debe debilitar el papel del "comandante de los Cascos Azules" aun despues de disuelta la "comandancia de las fuerzas conjuntas" EE.UU.-Sur de Corea como resultado del traspaso del "mando de operaciones en tiempos de guerra" al ejercito surcoreano. 　Tal disparate revela claramente la intencion de los belicistas norteamericanos de ocupar perennemente el territorio surcoreano y agredir a la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea.
    　Asi senala el diario Rodong Sinmun en un comentario individual de este lunes y prosigue:
    　En su intento de justificar la "necesidad del mantenimiento de la comandancia de las fuerzas de la ONU", Estados Unidos alega un supuesto "vacio en el sistema del mando militar" a causa de la disolucion de la "comandancia de las fuerzas conjuntas" surcoreano-norteamericanas.
    　Esta insistencia parte del siniestro proposito del imperio de seguir usando el manto de la ONU para ocupar perennemente el Sur de Corea, agredir el Norte de esta y mantener el control militar sobre la Peninsula Coreana y el resto del Nordeste Asiatico.
    　Por lo tanto, la entrega al ejercito surcoreano del "mando de operaciones en tiempos de guerra" y la descomposicion de la "comandancia de las fuerzas conjuntas" no significan la renuncia a la ocupacion del Sur de Corea y al mando sobre las fuerzas armadas de este ni al belicismo contra el Norte de Corea.
    　Todos los hechos comprueban fehacientemente que las fuerzas belicistas norteamericanas son responsables principales de la perturbacion de la paz y la estabilidad de la Peninsula Coreana y de la llegada en esta area del nubarron de guerra nuclear.

    Pyongyang, 29 de enero (ATCC) -- La Editora del Partido del Trabajo de Corea dio a luz el tomo 67 de las "Obras Completas de Kim Il Sung", ciclo de la inmortal idea Juche que recoge sistematica y globalmente por orden cronologico las obras del Presidente Kim Il Sung. 　En este volumen se incluyen 31 trabajos del Presidente, entre otros, discursos, conclusiones y charlas historicos, realizados en el termino entre mayo y agosto del 67 (1978) de la Era Juche.

    　Ademas, en el libro estan presentados los problemas de principios relativos a las experiencias de construccion del socialismo coreano, a la unidad y la cohesion del Movimiento de los No Alineados y otros asuntos surgidos en impulsar victoriosamente la revolucion mundial.

Finlandia: Comite preparatorio para el Dia del Sol y el 16 de febrero

    Pyongyang, 29 de enero (ATCC) -- Quedo constituido el dia 22 en una reunion de la comision ejecutiva de la Asociacion Finlandia-Corea el comite preparatorio para el Dia del Sol (15 de abril, cumpleanos del Presidente Kim Il Sung) y el 16 de febrero (cumpleanos del Dirigente Kim Jong Il). Como copresidentes de la entidad naciente fueron electos Esko Koskinen y Juha Kieksi, presidente y secretario general de la citada asociacion, respectivamente.
    Con motivo de ambas efemerides coreanas, el comite decidio organizar mitin, proyeccion filmica y otras diversas actividades.
