Meeting of Frontrunners of Songun Revolution Opens

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- A meeting of frontrunners of the Songun revolution was opened at the April 25 House of Culture in Pyongyang Monday. Present there were senior party, army and state officials, Cabinet members, officials of the party, armed forces and power organs, working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions, servicepersons and frontrunners in the fields of economy, science, education, literature and art, sports, public health and media.
    A congratulatory message of the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea to the participants in the meeting was read out there.
    The message said that the DPRK's access to nuclear deterrent was an epoch-making event in the history of the Korean nation as it provided a sure guarantee for putting an end to outsiders' aggression and interference and bringing eternal prosperity to the country. It was also the most shining victory won in the tempest of the Songun revolution.
    In the last two years our army and people have made successes greater than what was done in the past several years in the economic construction and thus put the national economy as a whole on an orbit of steady upswing, the message noted, and said: The Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the WPK highly praise all the officers and men of the Korean People's Army and the people for having worked hard to strikingly display the might of Songun Korea.
    Choe Thae Bok, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the WPK Central Committee, delivered a report at the meeting.
    The reporter said that the Korean revolution, which was pioneered and emerged victorious with the help of arms under the banner of the Juche idea, has greeted the golden days of its development under the Songun politics of Kim Jong Il.
    What is the most admirable success made in the general march for the Songun revolution, he said, is that the biggest efforts were channeled into increasing the nation's military capabilities for self-defence, thus making it possible for the DPRK to demonstrate its might as a socialist military power.
    Referring to the successful nuclear test the DPRK conducted with its own efforts and technology on the threshold of the significant anniversary of the WPK last year, he said:
    This helped the DPRK secure a reliable military guarantee for its prosperity and, as a full-fledged nuclear weapons state, greatly contribute to defending global peace and security.
    Today the DPRK has the invincible revolutionary army and powerful war deterrent. So we can declare confidently with high pride that we carried out all what should be done to defend ourselves and Songun Korea has become secure for all ages.
    The DPRK has taken the steadfast position of a power in political and ideological and military aspects. At last, an emotion-charged era of struggle has set in when our army and people should push ahead with the building of a socialist economic power after definitely rounding off the "Arduous March" and the forced march.
    Now is the time for them to unite as one in mind under the banner of Songun, bring into full play the inexhaustible potentials they have built up in the do-or-die spirit and effect a great surge on all fronts of building a great prosperous and powerful nation.
    "Let us make a general advance toward the peak of a great prosperous powerful nation, full of confidence and pride of being the victors of the Songun revolution!" This is the militant slogan that we should hold high.
    All the servicepersons and people should speed up the general march for the Songun revolution this year marking significant revolutionary holidays and thus eternally glorify the immortal revolutionary history and feats of President Kim Il Sung and fully display the invincibility of the Songun revolution advancing under the leadership of Kim Jong Il and the spirit of the powerful and prosperous country.
    We should value the single-minded unity, the greatest gain of the Korean revolution, and cement the unity of the entire party and army and all the people based on the revolutionary comradeship around the leader whenever the situation turns out to be tense and difficult tasks may face them in the revolution and construction.
    It is also imperative for us to more thoroughly arm ourselves with the great Juche idea, the Songun idea, firmly preserve its purity and steadily push forward the revolution and construction along the road of Songun guided by the Juche idea.
    Underlining the need to keep directing big efforts into increasing the nation's military capabilities for self-defence with the KPA as a core, taking the Juche-based Songun idea and line as immutable guidelines of our Party and revolution, the reporter continued:
    We should continue to give top priority to the development of the national defence industry, a material basis of the military capacity, with the transparent viewpoint that one can live without drops but not without bullets. And it is necessary to let all the people learn the military affairs with sincerity and turn the whole country into an impregnable fortress by making the spirit of attaching importance to the military affairs prevail over the whole society.
    The main task facing us at present is to shore up the economy as early as possible and radically improve the standard of people's living by concentrating all possible efforts, the reporter said, and stressed:
    We should demonstrate once again the spirit of the courageous army and people of the DPRK and the mettle of Songun Korea determined to find itself in the van of the world through the on-going gigantic advance for building an economic power.

Choe Thae Bok on DPRK's Contribution to Global Peace

Kim Jong Il's Work Published in Venezuela

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il's famous work "Present Times and Duty of Young People" was brought out in booklet by the Cantaclara Publishing House in Venezuela on Jan. 28. The work published on Oct. 12, Juche 77 (1988) comprehensively and clearly indicates highly important tasks of the youth to devote themselves to the cause of independence against imperialism for fulfilling their obligations to the era and history and carry the revolutionary cause of Juche to accomplishment under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea and ways for their implementation.

Day of Sun and February 16 to Be Commemorated in Guinea

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The Guinean preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun and February 16 was inaugurated with due ceremony at the building of the Party for Unity and Progress of Guinea on Jan. 30. At the ceremony the general secretary of the party was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.

Oath-taking Meeting of Youths and Children in Mt. Paektu

    Samjiyon, February 4 (KCNA) -- A national oath-taking meeting of youths and children took place in front of the old home of Kim Jong Il in the secret camp of Mt. Paektu on Feb. 4 with the approach of his birthday. The participants in the meeting placed a floral basket and bouquets before the mosaic of the three generals of Mt. Paektu erected in the secret camp and made a deep bow to them.
    At the call of Ri Myong Won, secretary of the C.C., the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, the participants made oaths voicing the rock-firm faith and will of the 8 million youth and children to accomplish the long journey of Songun revolution started in Mt. Paektu under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Intensified Reunification Movement Urged

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- An inaugural meeting of the "Blue Response" of the Youth Cultural Center for Reunification was reportedly held in Seoul on Jan. 30. Present at the meeting were members of organizations of youth and students and civil and public organizations.
    Addressing the meeting, the chief director of the "Blue Response" said the words "blue response" implied a call upon the youth and students in the south and north of Korea to be united as one.
    Congratulatory speeches were made by the permanent representative of the Youth and Students Headquarters of the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration and others.
    Speakers said the youth and students were the future of the nation and the heroes of the reunified country and expressed the hope that the organization would work energetically for peace and reunification in the future.
    An inaugural declaration was read out at the meeting, which called for implementing the June 15 joint declaration and invigorating among the youth and students the movement for national reunification.

U.S. Imperialists Massively Deploy Arms and Stage Aerial War Exercise

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists have swiftly deployed massive aggression forces in and around south Korea, getting more undisguised in their scheme to make a preemptive attack on the DPRK, according to military sources. They deployed a wing of F-117 Stealth fighter bombers and over 300 support personnel brought from the U.S. mainland in south Korea in January and brought formations of F-15 fighter bombers and F/A-18 pursuit and assault planes from overseas to their air force bases in south Korea in February.
    These formations have launched into exercises of terrain familiarization, navigation flight and strike at land targets with Kunsan, Suwon, Kumi and Pusan areas as the operational theatre.
    Meanwhile, on Feb. 1 and 2, over 250 F-16 fighter bombers and A-10 assault planes of the 7th Air Force of the U.S. imperialists in south Korea flew the skies over Kunsan, Ronsan, Chonan, Tangjin, Wonju, Ryechon and Phyongchang areas in their frantic exercises of air battle, close air support and strike at land target.
    On the other hand, the U.S. imperialists are busy with preparations for deploying F-22A Raptor Stealth fighter bombers in their Kadena air base, Okinawa of Japan, by Feb. 10, while planning to send the extra-large aircraft carrier Reagan to Yokosuka Port of Japan in addition to the carrier Kitty Hawk which is already there.
    Timing to coincide with this, Guam-based B-52s are making shuttle flights between the U.S. mainland and the island in their madcap long-distance flight exercise targeted at the Korean Peninsula.
    These noisy moves of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces suggest that they are rapidly going over to a practical stage from the stage of creating a crisis for a preemptive attack on the DPRK.

Arms Buildup Protested in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification in south Korea reportedly held the 64th rally for peace and disarmament in front of the Defense Ministry building in Seoul on Jan. 30 and condemned the military authorities for arms buildup that incites a war crisis on the Korean Peninsula from the outset of this year. Speakers at the rally referred to the fact that at the beginning of the year the Defense Ministry, the Joint Chiefs of Staff Headquarters and the Office for Defense Affairs announced one after another plans on introduction and development of large-scale weapons system, including additional introduction of F-15Ks, establishment of the Missile Defense system, development of assaulting helicopters and introduction of unmanned reconnaissance planes.
    The military authorities are pushing the situation of the Korean Peninsula to the verge of war from the outset of the year by following the U.S. war policy, and such moves can never be allowed, they held.
    They expressed the determination to vigorously struggle to get the above-said plans scrapped in solidarity with the peace-loving forces at home and abroad.
    A written protest was read out at the rally in denunciation of the Defense Ministry's scheme for armament.

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received a gift from Youssef Amin Wali, vice-chairman of the National Democratic Party of Egypt, on the occasion of his birthday. The gift was handed over to an official of the DPRK embassy in Egypt on Jan. 30.

Energy Developed under Long-term Plan

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Energy is being developed under a long-term plan in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Kim Kyong Bong, director of the Natural Energy Development and Utilization Center under the State Academy of Sciences, told KCNA that the energy development has been conducted in a far-sighted way according to the actual conditions, and its vista is bright.
    Successes are being made in researches into and the work of prospecting more energy resources rich in the country.
    A nation-wide effort has been bent to making best use of hydraulic power.
    In recent years, dams of the Samsu Power Station and Nyongwon Power Station have been built and large hydro-power stations are under construction in various parts of the country, the prospect of which is also good.

Preparations for Kimjongilia Festival Progress Apace

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Preparations for the 11th Kimjongilia Festival to mark the February holiday (the birthday of Kim Jong Il) are going ahead in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. In an interview with KCNA, Ri Yong Je, a department director of the Korean Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia Committee, said: Festival preparations are being made in different parts of the country. The committee set the dawn of the great, prosperous and powerful nation glowing like the red color of Kimjongilia, the immortal flower, as the festival theme and is directing efforts to arranging the festival venue to suit the theme so as to attach greater significance to it.

Bell in Yonbok Temple

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The bell in Yonbok Temple is one of the three famous bells in the DPRK along with the bells in Sangwon and Pongdok Temples. The bell, a national treasure, shows the then high standard of metal casting and metal craft technique of the Korean nation. It was cast in 1346 to suspend in Yonbok Temple in Kaesong, the capital of Koryo.
    When the temple was burned down in 1563, it was moved to Nam Gate in the crossroad in Pukan-dong, Kaesong City (today).
    It is 1.9 meters in diameter at its mouth, 3.12 meters high and 23 centimeters thick. It weighs some 14 tons.
    It shows a new aspect of bell in the period of Koryo in its form and decoration.
    The bell-hook reflects two tangled dragons. They look like wriggling as if they were alive.
    A row of lines was engraved at its waist dividing the upper from the lower part.
    Its mouth is hemmed with illustrations of waves and various animals such as dragons, deer, tortoises and crabs moving with the waves.
    The decorations on the surface of the bell are refined, elegant and solemn and its beautiful and clean sound reverberates as far as 40 kilometers.

Crimes of S. Korea's GNP Revealed

    Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- The National Reunification Institute issued a memorandum on Feb. 5 to expose the crimes committed so far by the group of traitors against democracy, the nation and reunification on the lapse of 11 years of the formation of the New Korea Party, the predecessor of the Grand National Party in south Korea. The history of the GNP originated from the Liberal Party at the time of the Syngman Rhee regime, the Democratic Republican Party at the time of the Park Chung Hee regime, the Democratic Justice Party at the time of the Chun Doo Hwan and Roh Thae Woo regimes and the Democratic Liberal Party and then the New Korea Party at the time of the Kim Young Sam regime.
    The memorandum cited data to prove that gentries of the GNP are a group of traitors who inherited the "traditions" of most despicable fascism and treachery and disclose the crimes committed by the GNP against the nation and reunification over the last ten years.

Rodong Sinmun denuncia acoso a Chongryon en Japon

    Pyongyang, 5 de febrero (ATCC) -- Desde los primeros dias del nuevo ano, las autoridades policiacas de Japon dieron mas calor a la represion contra la Chongryon (Asociacion General de Coreanos Residentes en Japon). El pasado 28 de enero, registraron coercitivamente las instituciones de la Chongryon y viviendas de los coreanos radicados alli y arrestaron a un funcionario de esta entidad y un comerciante coreano. 　Lo mas irritante del caso es que detuvieron a este ultimo hasta acudiendo al hospital donde el fue internado en la ambulancia por el infarto cerebral que sufrio durante el registro forzado.
    　El motivo de esa hostilidad y hostigamiento tan extremados es que ellos apoyan y siguen a su patria.
    　Al respecto, el diario Rodong Sinmun publico la vispera un comentario individual denunciando que el clan de los samurais es la horda de bestias disfrazadas de hombre y de bandidos que se dedican al despotismo y el terrorismo.
    　Los terminos "constitucionalidad" y "derechos humanos" no convienen jamas a Japon, pais mas cinico y repugnante en este mundo, apunta el comentarista y prosigue:

Condenan colaboracion EE.UU. - Japon en tergiversacion de historia

    Pyongyang, 5 de febrero (ATCC) -- Segun la cadena surcoreana CBS, en Estados Unidos se usa como manual para las escuelas secundarias la novela japonesa "Relato de Yoko" que miente como si los coreanos hubieran "maltratado" a los japoneses en la ultima etapa del colonialismo japones sobre Corea. Esto demuestra que EE.UU. tergiversa junto con Japon los hechos historicos para insultar malintencionadamente a la nacion coreana.
    Asi senala el periodico Minju Joson en un comentario individual difundido la vispera y continua:
    En estos dias, la banda belicista de Bush recurre con frenesi a las maniobras destinadas a provocar una guerra de agresion al Norte para ocupar con las fuerzas armadas a toda Corea.
    A su vez, los reaccionarios japoneses revitalizados bajo el amparo del imperio ya desenvainaron el sable de nueva agresion a Corea abogando por la "sancion y presion" a la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea.

    Pyongyang, 5 de febrero (ATCC) -- Al autorizar el uso de una novela japonesa, que profano cruelmente a la nacion coreana con hechos historicos distorsionados, como manual para escuelas secundarias, Estados Unidos insulto de gravedad a la nacion coreana y violo flagrantemente la justicia, la conciencia y la verdad, lo que constituye un acto antihistorico encaminado a dar la bondad por el mal y la victima por el criminal. Senala asi el portavoz de la Asociacion de Historiadores de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea en su declaracion dada a la publicidad la vispera y prosigue:
    Esa polemica novela historica es un libro signado de datos fraudulentos no apegados en nada a las circunstancias y los hechos historicos de aquel entonces.
    　En ella esta anotado como si Japon hubiera ocupado legitimamente a Corea a tenor del "convenio Katsura-Taft".

    Pyongyang, 5 de febrero (ATCC) -- La editora Ismael de Egipto dio a luz el 30 de enero en folleto la obra maestra del Dirigente Kim Jong Il "Priorizar la labor ideologica es requisito indispensable para el cumplimiento de la causa socialista", publicada el 19 de junio del 84 (1995) de la Era Juche La obra aclara la idea de que a fin de cumplir con exito la causa socialista es preciso anteponer la labor ideologica a las demas tomandola con firmeza y la otra de que su deber fundamental es unificar a toda la sociedad bajo la idea Juche y realizarla segun los principios y metodos convenientes a la demanda intrinseca del socialismo.
    Por otra parte, La Editora Canta Clara de Venezuela edito el 28 de enero en folleto la obra maestra del Dirigente "La epoca actual y las tareas de la juventud", publicada el 12 de octubre del 77 (1988) de la Era Juche.
    Este trabajo dilucida las tareas programaticas que incumben a los jovenes para cumplir su responsabilidad asumida ante la epoca y la historia a fin de abnegarse a la causa antiimperialista por la independencia y llevar a feliz termino la empresa revolucionaria del Juche bajo la direccion del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, y los medios para su cumplimiento.
