    The message said:

The Revolution was a historic event that brought an epochal turn in the political life of the Syrian people for the independent development of the country.
The Korean people extend full support and solidarity to the Syrian people in their just cause to defend the sovereignty of the country and the Mideast peace and security, meeting the continued challenge of the hostile forces.

Kim Jong Il's Work Published in Russia

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il's famous work "On Preserving the Juche Character and National Character of the Revolution and Construction" was brought out in booklet by the Vit Publishing House in Vladivostok, Russia, on the occasion of the February holiday.
The work, published on June 19, Juche 86 (1997), clarifies the idea that to preserve the Juche character and national character of the revolution and construction is the fundamental principle that should be held fast to in accomplishing the socialist cause, and indicates the tasks and ways to do so.

Speeches were made at the meetings.

Congratulatory messages to Kim Jong Il were adopted at the meetings in Venezuela and Barbados.

Namibian President on Relations with DPRK

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- The friendly and cooperative ties between Namibia and the DPRK are developing on very good terms. Namibia will strive to boost these ties.
Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba said this when receiving the credentials from the DPRK ambassador e.p. to Namibia on Feb. 23.
He noted that Namibia and the DPRK have developed the relations of support and cooperation for a long period.

S. Korean Grand National Party Condemned

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- Members of the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration reportedly staged "the Wednesday practical action denouncing the Grand National Party" in Seoul on Feb. 28.
The participants charged that the GNP alone was blocking up inter-Korean exchange and cooperation, taking issue with them at every step at a time when the atmosphere of peace and reunification was surfacing on the Korean Peninsula.
The folly of the GNP keen on selling off the sovereignty of this land once and for all, relaying on the aggressive "alliance" with the U.S., is little short of that of "the five traitors of 1905" who shouted themselves hoarse that "if Korea wants to survive, it should do as Japan dictates," they said.
They held that for the south and the north to close the chapter of the relations of distrust and confrontation and coordinate their steps toward peace and reunification is beneficial to the Korean nation either in view of the nation's history in which it has lived together for centuries or of all the aspects of politics, economy and culture that will spread in the era of reunification.
Nevertheless, the GNP is throwing snags in the way of peace and reunification of the nation, revealing its true colors as one fed on the residues of the era of division, they noted, adding: The fellow countrymen will never forgive it.

Rally for National Independence Held in Seoul

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- A rally for national independence was reportedly held in Seoul on March 1 under the co-sponsorship of the Reunification Solidarity and the People's Solidarity of south Korea, 88 years since the March First Popular Uprising.
The speakers there accused the Japanese government of tightening the sanctions against the north and escalating its suppression of Koreans in Japan, calling on all the Koreans to pool efforts to shatter Japan's moves to revive militarism and carry forward the spirit of national independence displayed during the uprising.
A letter written by a student of Tokyo Korean Middle and High School was read out at the meeting. It expressed the resolve not to yield to the pressure of the Japanese government although it dragoons the Koreans in Japan to change their nationality into Japanese while persisting in the suppression of them, oblivious of its crime-woven history.
A resolution on actions read out there stated that the fighting spirit with which the participants in the uprising fought to free themselves from the yoke of oppression under the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule and achieve the national sovereignty and independence has been carried forward by the younger generation.
We will wage a resolute struggle against the right-wing forces and the government of Japan keen to revive militarism without redeeming its past crimes and put an end to their human rights abuses and suppression of students and other Koreans in Japan being perpetrated as part of their sanctions against the north, the resolution noted.
Reiterating their pledge to carry on their actions till the Japanese government lifts the sanctions against the north and opts for improving the relations with it, the resolution urged Japan to lift the sanctions against the DPRK and actively come out to improve the relations with it through dialogue, if it truly wants peace in Northeast Asia.
At the end of the rally the participants torched a Japanese flag.

Japanese Reactionaries Denounced for Trying to Deny Crime-woven History

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- Members of the "Dietmen's Society for Thinking of the Future of Japan and Education of History" under the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan are coming out with a formal request for an amendment to the statement made by the then Chief Cabinet Secretary Kono in 1993, denying the forcible drafting of "comfort women" by government and military power with regard to the crimes related to those women taken away for the imperial Japanese army.
Noting that the Japanese reactionaries are letting loose an ugly torrent of trash distorting and denying the history of aggression by the Japanese imperialists, a Rodong Sinmun analyst Wednesday says:
This is the height of their shamelessness and moral vulgarity.
Several years have passed in the 21st century. But there are still open acts of distorting and denying the history of aggression in Japan. This cannot but be very grave and dangerous developments. The crime committed in drafting "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army is one of the most inhuman crimes perpetrated by the Japanese imperialists in the past.
The Japanese reactionaries' despicable distortion of history is an intolerable insult to the Korean people, the victim, and a deliberate artifice to refuse to admit the crime and evade the settlement of the past at any cost.
They have not yet renounced the militaristic view of history and view of domination. Typical manifestation of this is the attempts to distort the crime committed in drafting "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army. They are working deliberately to reverse the history of aggression and cram militaristic consciousness into the heads of the Japanese people.
To try to cover up the past crimes immediately means they intend to follow in the footsteps of the predecessors who committed those crimes. The Japanese reactionaries are increasing pressure upon the DPRK, persistently raising a hue and cry over the already settled "abduction issue." This is linked with their scheme of reinvasion of Korea. The distortion of history, evasion of settlement of the past crimes and outcries over "threat" from someone vividly indicate the process of the preparations of the Japanese militarists to stage a comeback to Korea.
The Japanese reactionaries would be well advised to give up the foolish dream of attaining their sinister purpose through the shameless distortion of history.

Documents on Japan's Repression of March First Popular Uprising Found

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- Japan's Asahi Shimbun reported on Feb. 28 that documents on the suppression of the March First Popular Uprising of Koreans were found in Japan.
Noting that diaries of 15 years of Taro Utsunomiya, who was the commander of the Japanese army present in Korea at the time of the March 1, 1919, movement for independence of Korea under the Japanese rule, and lots of other historical data were disclosed, the paper said that the documents detail the facts about the suppression of the uprising at that time and the course of the appeasement policy towards fighters for independence.
According to them, in April 1919 the Japanese imperialists forcibly drove to a church the villagers in Jeam-ri, Suwon County (now Hwasong County), Kyonggi Province and committed mass killing and arson against them in a bid to prevent spread of the uprisers' mounting anti-Japanese spirit and denied this fact.
The diary book noted that Japan had decided not to acknowledge the massacre and arson but to claim that such killing was made during their resistance, contending that it would be very easy to settle the case as it was but this would lead to Japan's acknowledgement, letting the empire be at a disadvantageous position.
The book also detailed the facts that the author conducted appeasement operations among activists of the Korean independence movement and religionists and collected information from them.

Minju Joson Calls for Deterring GNP from Grabbing Power

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- More hideous human rights abuses such as the "case of the People's Revolutionary Party" and "spyring case of the family of Sin Ki Yong," etc. perpetrated by the fascist junta in the past are being brought to light in south Korea. There should be neither statute of limitations nor pardon for these perpetrators.
Minju Joson today asserts this in a signed commentary.
    It goes on:
Stern judgment should be meted out to the dictatorial regimes in the past which brutally suppressed the patriotic youths and students and other people and democratic figures and killed them after faking up conspiratorial cases one after another.
This is strongly demanded not only by the victims of the anti-communist cases and their bereaved families but by the human rights and civic and social organizations and people of all strata.
This being a hard fact, the clan of the "Grand National Party" (GNP) has totally denied any conspiratorial case and killing committed by its predecessors in the past and is refusing to admit them far from apologizing for them even today when the truth behind the crimes is being disclosed.
This behavior of the GNP gentry proves their ulterior intention to repeat such crimes.
The heavyweights of the GNP include descendants of the infamous "Yusin" dictatorship, fascist judicial officers, torture experts and man-killers.
It is as clear as a pikestaff what disastrous consequences would be entailed by the GNP's seizure of power.
If this is allowed to happen in south Korea, it will bring back such medieval era of darkness as the "Yusin" dictatorship and force innocent people to shed blood again.
The GNP should never be allowed to return to power in order to prevent the reemergence of the dark fascist rule and make the south Korean society independent and democratic.

Formation of Anti-Conservative Great Alliance Called for

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- All the patriotic forces in south Korea are called upon to realize an anti-conservative great alliance if they are to frustrate the anti-peace and anti-reunification moves of the ultra-right conservative forces.
Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says this in a signed article.
The realization of the great alliance is part of the struggle against aggression and for the defence of peace as it helps cut off the foreign forces' tentacles of aggression and war and protect peace on the Korean Peninsula, the article notes, and goes on:
The successive pro-U.S. ultra-right conservative forces have played an ill-famed role as a shock brigade in backing the U.S. imperialists' war moves against the DPRK, offering land and wealth and even sacrificing the nation's destiny, while staying in power.
South Korea has been converted into an outpost for aggression against the DPRK. The U.S. aggressor forces are strutting about there, receiving the funds for their upkeep amounting to astronomical figures every year, and DPRK-targeted large-scale military maneuvers do not cease. All this is a product of the south Korean ultra-right conservative forces' sycophancy towards the U.S.
The pro-U.S. conservative forces in south Korea are still engaged in the acts of treachery dancing to the tune of the U.S. war outcry against the DPRK though the nation lives in the era of independent reunification.
The realization of the above-said alliance provides a way of removing the source of confrontation between the north and the south and achieving the peaceful reunification of the country.
The ultra-right conservative forces in south Korea are a wicked group of traitors whose means of existence is to foster confrontation between compatriots.
Even since the advent of the June 15 era of independent reunification those forces have more recklessly pursued confrontation between compatriots, swimming against the trend of the times towards national co-operation, unity and peace.
These desperate moves of these forces to hurt compatriots, brandishing swords against the progressive and patriotic forces, bring back the fascist tyranny dating back to the era of dictatorship in south Korea and cause unpleasant things to happen between the north and the south more often than not.
These developments hamstring the progress of the cause of peace and reunification and throw a stumbling block in the way of bringing security to the nation and peace to the country.
The situation urgently calls on all the progressive and patriotic forces in south Korea to realize the anti-conservative great alliance and thus smash the moves of the ultra-right conservative forces to incite inter-Korean confrontation.
As the reality proves, to realize the above-mentioned alliance is a struggle for defending peace on the Korean Peninsula and achieving its peaceful reunification.

Model of Korean Women in Songun Era

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- The people of the DPRK are extending warm congratulations on the occasion of the International Women's Day, first of all, to the wives of army officers, flowers in the Songun era.
They are leading a worthwhile life as revolutionary comrades of their husbands in military uniforms guarding the defense line of the country at the posts in remote mountainous areas and on isolated islands.
Girls in the Changgwangsan Hotel left Pyongyang to marry officers in the forefront units in Juche 86 (1997), when the country had to undergo grave ordeals. This fact fully showed the beautiful spiritual world of the Korean women.
The officers' wives who prefer the sweat-soaked uniforms of their husbands to luxury are finding their happiness in the Songun revolution.
As they devote themselves to soldiers, the latter calls them "our elder sister" or "our mother".
Officers' wives are taking an active part in the mass cultural and artistic activities for the Songun era, creating examples to be followed.
The annual contest of art groups of servicepersons' families, which raised its curtain ten years ago, is making a great contribution to establishing optimistic living atmosphere throughout the country.
In their performances last year, the participants demonstrated their firm will to live and fight as befitting to the cook of the supreme headquarters and the revolutionary of the Songun era, always bearing in mind those days when they covered the "Arduous March" and forced march, along with their leader. A lot of edifices built by servicepersons are soaked with greasy sweat of servicemen's wives.
The high spiritual world and ways of work and life of the officers' wives, who prefer the fatherland to their families and devote their all to the efforts to accomplish the Songun cause, are followed as a model by all the Korean women.
The feature film "Wives of Officers" and song "I am a wife of officer" laud the wives of officers.

Songs Orchestrated

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- The National Symphony Orchestra of the DPRK is brisk to orchestrate works anew.
Creators and artists are representing the famous song "Nostalgia" with a new tone color.
They are also orchestrating the ode "Cantata to Marshal Kim Il Sung" in a unique form so as to put it on the stage on the occasion of the Sun's Day.
They are making great efforts to represent piano concertos "Cantata to Comrade Kim Jong Il" and "Fatherland, Prosper" and symphonies "Way to Victory", "Star of General" and other works.
Many efforts are being channeled to make the already-created symphony suite "Long Journey of Songun" and "Beat of a Horse's Hooves in Mt. Paektu" rich in symphonic cantus.
Kang Yong Gil, deputy director of the National Symphony Orchestra, told that they would create more successful works which would contribute to the education in cultural and emotional feelings among the people who are in the efforts for building a great, prosperous and powerful socialist country.

Songs of Women

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- The people love to sing songs carrying the pride and self-confidence of the women on the general advance towards the high eminence of a great, prosperous and powerful socialist nation.
The song "Love your wife" calling for respecting the women socially is popular among the people.
There are many songs showing the spiritual world of girl-soldiers in the "Persimmon tree company "," Wild flower Company" and other military units. Among them are the songs "Song of coast artillery-women" and "I am a girl-soldier in Songun era".
Reflected in the songs "I am a wife of sentry" and "I am an officer's wife" are the noble ideological sentiment and revolutionary optimism of servicemen's wives who are doing their best for their husbands defending the country devotedly.
The songs "A girl riding a swift horse", "Girls in our factory" and "A girl silk-weaver in Nyongbyon" sing of the fruitful working life of the women who are distinguishing themselves in the economic construction along with men. And the songs "Women are flowers" and "Song of wife" reflect the women's pride of creating the happiness of the families as dear wives and good mothers. The songs touch the heart-strings of the people.
Today the Korean women love to sing these songs created in the Songun era and are doing their bit in the efforts for building the great, prosperous and powerful socialist country.

Greetings to Syrian President

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Wednesday sent a message of greetings to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the March 8 revolution in Syria.
The message said that the Syrian people have waged a dynamic struggle to defend the gains of the revolution and build developed and modern society under the correct guidance of the president.
It wholeheartedly wished the friendly Syrian people bigger success in their struggle to defend the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of the nation and seek a fair and comprehensive solution to the Mid-east issue and expressed the conviction that the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries would continue to grow stronger in the days ahead.

Abe's Reckless Remarks under Fire

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- Abe, grandson of Class A war criminal, is obliged to more straightforwardly and sincerely reflect on the past crimes of Japan than anyone else and settle them. A spokesman for the DPRK Measure Committee for Demanding Compensation to "Comfort Women" for the Imperial Japanese Army and the Victims of Forcible Drafting said this in a statement Wednesday lashing out at Abe who, when interviewed by media, openly distorted and defended the heinous crimes related to sexual slavery committed by the Japanese imperialists in the past, asserting that there is no evidence proving the coercion involved in sexual slavery for the Japanese military mentioned in "Kono's statement."
Of late the international community has become increasingly critical of the crimes perpetrated by Japan against humanity as evidenced by the fact that a resolution holding the Japanese government accountable for the crimes related to sexual slavery was presented to Congress of the U.S., its senior ally, and its victims testified to the crimes, the statement noted, and went on:
Much upset by the above-mentioned development, the Japanese reactionaries let high-ranking officials grumble that it was regrettable and undesirable, while hastily dispatching right-wing politicians and even an adviser to the prime minister to the U.S. for lobbying operations. All this is aimed at deterring the above-said resolution from passing through Congress. Irony is that the prime minister took the lead in this diplomacy.
In this regard one cannot but recall the fact that two years ago Abe forced NHK to modify its TV program introducing the "Tokyo International Women's Court on War Crimes" which ruled that the Japanese government and the Japanese emperor were responsible for the crimes related to the "comfort women" and floated the lie that members of the DPRK delegation to the "court" were "operatives from the north" only to become a laughing stock of the world. This once again strips bare his true colors as a political charlatan and shameless man as he dares negate history and discards even ethics and morality in a bid to realize his own sinister political ambition.

Greetings to Ghanaian President

Kim in the message said that the Korean people are rejoiced over many achievements the Ghanaian people have made in their efforts to build an independent, peaceful and prosperous, new country for the last 50 years after its independence.
Expressing belief that the long-standing relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries would continue to grow stronger in the mutual interests, the message wished the president and the people of Ghana greater success in their work for the progress and prosperity of the country.

S. Korean Delegation Here

Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the council, met and had a conversation with the delegation at Pyongyang Koryo Hotel.

Japan Urged to Pay for Crimes Related to "Comfort Women" for Imperial Japanese Army

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry issued a statement Wednesday lashing out at the present Japanese authorities for totally negating the crimes related to the "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army.
No matter how desperately the Japanese authorities may try to whitewash the crime-woven past of Japan and cover up the crimes related to the "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army, the worst flesh traffic in the 20th century, they are historical facts that Japan can neither sidestep nor deny, the statement noted, and continued:
What should not be overlooked is that Abe has taken the lead in totally negating the crimes, asserting that there is no evidence proving the forcible recruitment of "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army, retracting even his remarks that he adheres to Kono's statement.
At a meeting of a subcommittee of the House of Councilors on March 5 he, referring to the U.S. Congressional resolution incriminating the issue of the sexual slavery enforced by the Japanese imperialists in the past, asserted that the "counteraction of the Japanese government was disregarded," adding there would be no formal apology even if the resolution would be passed.
The prime minister of a country dares challenge the historical facts and the unbiased public opinion of the international community, playing with such words as coercion in a narrow sense or broader sense, far from humbly repenting of the past crimes with a proper view on history. This clearly indicates how vulgar Japan has become in its conscience and morality.
It is the revival of Japanese militarism that the Japanese authorities are seeking by zealously defending the hideous wartime crimes committed by their predecessors, challenging the unanimous denunciation and censure of the international community.
The revival of militarism in Japan would only lead it to ruin, not "beautiful Japan" much touted by Abe.
No denial can ever write off or tamper with history. Japan will certainly be forced to pay for the crimes related to the sexual slavery.

Kim Jong Il Enjoys Art Performance

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il enjoyed the art performance "The Blue Sky over My Country" (Part Dawn.)
Among the audience were Choe Thae Bok, Kim Jung Rin and Kim Ki Nam, secretaries of the Central Committee of the WPK, and other senior officials of the WPK Central Committee and Vice Marshal of the KPA Kim Il Chol, member of the DPRK National Defence Commission and minister of the People's Armed Forces, and other KPA commanding officers, servicepersons and officials in the fields of literature and arts and media.
The above-said art performance, "Kim Il Sung Prize" laureate, made a successful great epic representation of the sky-high spirit of heroic Korea greeting the dawn of a great prosperous powerful nation.
The performers sang high praises of the brilliant history of the Korean revolution shining with victory and glory and strikingly demonstrated the firm faith and will of the servicepersons and people of the DPRK to build a socialist land of bliss prospering thanks to the spirit of Thaechon, true to the idea and the leadership of Kim Jong Il and thus always keep the sky of the country clean and blue.
At the end of the performance Kim Jong Il waved back to the enthusiastically cheering performers and audience and congratulated the artistes on their successful presentation.
He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the artistes successfully created one more masterpiece in the era of Songun reflecting the spirit and stamina of Korea.
"The Blue Sky over My Country," which is strictly based on the party spirit, the working class spirit, simplicity and the serve-the-people spirit and which crystallizes the precious cultural treasures made in the past, is genuine popular art that can be created only by our revolutionary artistes led by the WPK, he said, adding that the signal progress made in the Juche-based arts is a clear proof of the validity and great vitality of the WPK's literary and art policy.
He expressed expectation and belief that they would uphold and preserve the WPK's precious tradition of literature and arts and successfully carry forward and develop it to strikingly demonstrate the might of genuine popular arts before the whole world.
