Important Days of DPRK Celebrated in Guinea and Syria
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- A lecture was given and a film show took place at the Kim Il Sung Institute of Agricultural Science in Guinea on Feb. 16, the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
Malik Souma, director general of the institute, in a lecture said that the DPRK is now fully demonstrating its dignity and exercising sovereign rights despite the U.S. arbitrary practices. This is the result of the outstanding strategy and matchless grit of Kim Jong Il, he added.
Kim Jong Il is not only a distinguished leader and defender of the human cause of independence, the cause of socialism, but also a creator of the happiness of the Korean people, he stressed.
The participants of the film show watched the Korean film "February 16, the Greatest National Holiday".
Round-table talks took place at University of Damascus of Syria on Feb. 28 on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the heroic Korean People's Army.
U.S. Projected RSOI under Fire in S. Korea
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration in south Korea reportedly issued a statement on March 8 denouncing the U.S. projected RSOI for aggression.
Recalling that the U.S. announced its plan to stage RSOI in south Korea, the statement said that the DPRK-targeted joint military exercises once again glaringly reveal before the world that the U.S. will never renounce war but seeks to gratify its dirty greed for aggression through the war.
The U.S. planned joint military exercises make one skeptical about the truth about the "dialogue" much touted by it and its will to put into practice all the agreements with the DPRK, the statement noted, stressing that the solidarity will wage a more dynamic struggle to force the U.S. stop its moves for a war against the DPRK and get the U.S. troops withdrawn from this land.
The Solidarity of Youth and Students for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration in south Korea and the Federation of University Students in Seoul District respectively released statements on the same day to denounce the U.S. and south Korean warhawks for planning to stage large-scale war maneuvers against the DPRK.
Actions Staged in S. Korea to Check Negotiations for Conclusion of FTA
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- The first meeting and a demonstration reportedly took place in Seoul on March 10 to check the negotiations for the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. "Free Trade Agreement" under the sponsorship of the Headquarters of the All-People Movement for Checking the Negotiations for the Conclusion of FTA.
They were attended by at least 5,000 people from all walks of life including members of the Democratic Labor Party.
After taking an action to disallow all meetings to be sponsored by the headquarters, the police authorities deployed police vans at major places in Seoul from the evening the day before to prevent people from gathering there. In the morning of the day they rushed at least 30,000 policemen to totally seal off different places in the city.
Meanwhile, the police blocked roads in Ulsan and Taegu, and Jonju City of North Jolla Province and other areas and stopped people from heading for Seoul.
The protesters, however, gathered in front of Kyobo Library in Kwanghwamun, breaking through the police cordon, and held the first meeting.
O Jong Ryol, co-representative of the headquarters, and other speakers at the meeting deplored that the conclusion of FTA at the negotiations would leave the south Korean economy to the tender mercy of the U.S. and force all the people to die. If the "government" concludes FTA with the U.S. at the negotiations, defying the demand of the people, it will meet all-people resistance, they warned.
Then the participants started a sit-in strike. Offering stubborn resistance against the riot police, they held another meeting in front of Posin Temple in Jongro at which they vowed to fight to their dying breath to check the negotiations for the conclusion of FTA.
At the meeting members of the headquarters declared that they would hold the second meeting in Seoul on March 25 and stage an indefinite hunger strike around the "Chongwadae".
Projected S. Korea-U.S. Joint Military Exercises Denounced
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- The North Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration and 10 other organizations in the north, the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration and 20 other organizations in the south, the Japan Regional Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration and 31 other organizations overseas made public a joint statement on Tuesday in denunciation of the "RSOI" and "Foal Eagle" joint military exercises to be staged by the U.S. and the south Korean authorities.
The plan to stage again DPRK-targeted large-scale war exercises announced by them at a time when the U.S. and the south Korean authorities are committed to implementing in practice the February 13 agreement which calls for dropping a hostile policy towards the DPRK cannot but be a reckless act of challenging the desire of the 70 million Koreans for peace and reunification, the statement noted, and continued:
We lodge a strong protest with the U.S. against this action, reflecting the desire of the Koreans in the north and the south and overseas for peace.
The U.S. should not perpetrate any hostile act in breach of the measure to be taken at the initial phase specifically laid down in the February 13 agreement on the principle of action for action.
The U.S. should give up at once the projected "RSOI" and "Foal Eagle" and stop the arms buildup on the Korean Peninsula and in its vicinity.
If the U.S. sticks to its hostile policy in actuality, while paying lip-service to denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula, it will meet stronger resistance from the Korean nation and have to pay dearly for it.
We demand the south Korean authorities immediately retract their decision to participate in the war exercises.
If they allow their troops to participate in the joint military maneuvers, they will hardly expect improved inter-Korean relations, far from warming them up.
The south Korean authorities should not behave without any principle, reading the face of the U.S., but take a bold action to come out against the saber-rattling, paying heed to the will and interests of the nation aspiring after peace and reunification.
Abe's Shameless Malarkey Refuted
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Japanese Prime Minister Abe's reckless remarks aimed to throw the past crimes committed by Japan into the limbo of oblivion remind one of the saying that "Leopards don't change their spots," observes a Minju Joson analyst Wednesday.
Noting that he totally negated Japan's past crimes, letting loose a string of rubbish woefully lacking common knowledge, the analyst goes on:
This cannot be interpreted otherwise than the revelation of the intention to repeat the past history of bloody crimes.
Abe, truth to tell, is under moral obligation to roll up sleeves to settle Japan's past crimes including those committed by his own forefathers. However, he is behaving quite contrary.
Not to admit one's wrongs means that one would repeat them. Japan's non-admittance to the crimes related to the "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army is little short of its open declaration to the world that it would again launch into a militarist aggression overseas and commit such extra-large crimes against humanity as sexual slavery.
It is not surprising to hear such malarkey totally denying past crimes from Abe who has inherited the lineage of a militarist family. What is serious, however, is that Japan has reached so dangerous a phase in rushing toward militarist reaction.
Japan's full-dressed moves to revise the "Pacifist Constitution" under Abe's baton, visits to the "Yasukuni Shrine" and total negation of the past crimes committed by Japan cannot be construed otherwise than acts targeted at overseas aggression.
Rodong Sinmun Calls for Development of Inter-Korean Relations
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- The inter-Korean relations should develop to genuine relations between fellow countrymen, fully shaking off the leftovers of the old era of confrontation, today when the north and the south should pool strength and spread the heyday of the cause of independent reunification, states Rodong Sinmun Wednesday, adding: The bright prospect of the development of the inter-Korean relations lies in attaching importance to the nation.
The author of the article goes on:
Attaching importance to the nation is the basic stand for rejecting the interference and obstructions of outside forces and developing inter-Korean relations.
If one follows outside forces without independence in inter-Korean relations, ignoring the will and interests of the nation, distrust and confrontation will crop up between the fellow countrymen and the inter-Korean relations be driven into a crisis. Really enormous are the consequences brought to the development of the inter-Korean relations and the cause of national reunification by the treacherous flunkeyist acts of giving importance to outside forces and anti-reunification acts of following the lead of outside forces.
An end must be put to the unsavory history in which the inter-Korean relations have been played into the hands of outside forces. To this end, the north and the south should firmly maintain the stance and stand of attaching importance to the Korean nation.
This stance and stand is clearly manifested in having the pluck and independent spirit not shrinking before any pressure and blackmail of outside forces and in never backing down on the principle of giving priority to the nation and defending it.
Now, the inter-Korean relations are being put on the track of recovery again. But, if the Korean nation fails to stay sharp-eyed, the present trend in the inter-Korean relations might be led to another breakdown any moment by the chicanery of outside forces.
It is unpardonable treachery to the nation to faint-heartedly cling to the attitude of giving importance to outside forces and cooperation, captive to the bad habit of flunkeyism and dependence on outside forces, turning a deaf ear to the demand of the times and the aspiration of the nation.
Whether the inter-Korean relations are put on a solid track of reconciliation, unity and independent reunification or not entirely depends on the will and efforts of the north and the south.
Projected U.S.-South Korean Military Maneuvers Assailed
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- As was already reported, the south Korea-U.S. "Combined Forces Command" announced on Mar. 7 that they would stage "RSOI" and field mobile exercises in south Korea from Mar. 25 to 31. Such exercises are out-and-out nuclear war maneuvers intended to make a surprise and preemptive attack on the DPRK in case of "emergency" on the Korean Peninsula, says Minju Joson in a signed commentary.
Pointing out that the U.S. and the south Korean authorities seek to prevent the tendency of the Korean Peninsula toward detente by force, the commentary goes on:
If they truly want peace on the peninsula, they should hold in such rude conduct as pointing a gun at their dialogue partner or any act that may turn the trend of reconciliation and improved relations back to confrontation and hostile relations. And they should announce that they will stop any war exercises against the DPRK.
But they are now planning to stage another war exercises against the DPRK, challenging the domestic and foreign opinion, though they have acted as if they have a will to come out for "dialogue" and "improved relations." The military maneuvers planned by the U.S. and south Korean authorities whose appearances are deceptive make the DPRK skeptical about the truth of the agreements they have made so far with it and about their will to implement them.
What arouses our indignation is the sinister and disgusting attitude of the south Korean authorities who have yielded to the outsiders while betraying their fellow countrymen.
The U.S. and the south Korean authorities scheme to scuttle the solution to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula in a deliberate way through war maneuvers against the DPRK.
The war exercises against the DPRK can be justified with no pretext and the dialogue is incompatible with them.
Rodong Sinmun Dismisses Imperialists' Loudmouthed "Freedom" of Thinking as Hypocritical
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- The imperialists and their mouthpieces seldom let a chance pass by without touting the "freedom" of thinking in a bid to slander the socialist countries and the anti-imperialist independent countries but this is nothing but sophism.
Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed article.
There can be no genuine freedom of thinking in the capitalist society where the bourgeois enforce an unpopular rule with power in their hands, the article notes, laying bare the deceptive and reactionary nature of the "freedom" of thinking much touted by the imperialists.
It goes on:
Their much publicized "freedom" of thinking is aimed to quell the progressive ideas and disseminate the bourgeois reactionary ideology in the capitalist society. And it is no more than a deceptive slogan intended to hide with the signboard of "freedom" their undisguised operations to spread the bourgeois ideology and justify their campaign for bourgeois ideological and cultural poisoning against other countries.
The reactionary bourgeois ruling class pretends to allow the progressive thoughts to a certain extent in a bid to paint the capitalist society as a "model of freedom," a "democratic society" but mercilessly suppresses them when it concludes they pose even the slightest threat to its rule.
The suppression of the progressive ideas is still going on in the capitalist countries.
The bourgeois ruling quarters are wooing the reactionary writers, journalists and other media persons to produce for public circulation works, articles and other propaganda materials aimed at distorting and beautifying realities in the capitalist society and prodding people into seeking sexual and other abnormal greed. Such moves of the imperialists are, in essence, suppression of people's thoughts as they bar the independent development of human thoughts and a criminal act of imposing the reactionary ideology on them.
The imperialists have infiltrated bourgeois ideas and culture into the socialist countries and the anti-imperialist independent countries through information-gathering and plot-breeding institutions or through such means and channels as "cooperation" and "exchange." They have pressurized other countries to accept bourgeois ideas, using economic aid as conditionality. But when those countries fail to meet their demand, they resort to undisguised interference in their internal affairs and put political, economic and diplomatic pressure upon them and use even the force of arms, after accusing them of the lack of "freedom" of thinking and labeling their societies a "dark world" and "closed societies."
Any attempt to accept the "freedom" of thinking much touted by the imperialists would entail serious consequences. This is eloquently proved by the tragic realities in the countries where socialism collapsed.
Kim Yong Dae Meets IAEA Director-General
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Dae, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met and had a talk with Mohamed Elbaradei, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and his party at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on Wednesday.
New Species of Paulownia Bred
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Researchers in the Aeguk Tree Tissue Culture Institute of the DPRK have recently succeeded in breeding a new species of paulownia tree.
The newly bred tree grows more than ten meters within three years since its plantation and can be used for furniture and building materials after five years.
It, which thrives straightly, purifies air well and has good resistance to harmful insects.
Meanwhile, the research team has established a system for nursing saplings by tissue culture and thus opened a bright vista for extensively propagating it within a few years.
Two Pairs of Binoculars, Slogan "A-match-for-a hundred"
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- There is two pairs of binoculars in the post on Mt. Taedok of the DPRK.
The first one was used by President Kim Il Sung at the military post in February Juche 52 (1963), and the other one was left by the Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il at the end of his inspection of the post on March 18, Juche 85 (1996).
Looking down the southern land with the binoculars at the outpost, the President said that each soldier should prepare himself as a stalwart combatant capable of matching a hundred enemy soldiers in order to frustrate into pieces the moves of the US imperialists to start a war and defend the socialist fatherland as firm as a rock. And he put forward the slogan "A-match-for-a hundred" to the KPA.
True to his instruction, soldiers engraved the slogan on a natural rock of their post. And the binoculars are symbolic of the slogan.
When Kim Jong Il called at the post on Mt. Taedok, he expressed satisfaction over the fact that the soldiers had prepared themselves to be a-match-for-a hundred and gave them a machine-gun and an automatic rifle along with a pair of binoculars.
The soldiers on Mt. Taedok are defending reliably the post of the fatherland, closely watching every movement of the invaders through the meaningful binoculars.
