U.S.-S. Korea Joint Military Games Assailed

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- The Friendship Association with Korea based in Spain and the Arab Solidarity Committee for Supporting the Struggle of the Anti-imperialist National Democratic Front and the south Korean People issued statements on Mar. 16 in denunciation of the projected U.S.-south Korea RSOI and Foal Eagle joint military drills.
It is utterly intolerable that the U.S. and the south Korean authorities are engaged in aggressive war maneuvers threatening the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia at a time when not only the Korean people but also the world peace-loving people are heaping bitter curses on the U.S. occupation of south Korea and its monstrous acts, the statements said.
They predicted that the hostile acts of the United States were fated to fiasco in face of the might of the army and people of the DPRK.
In the meantime, the U.S. Group for the Study of Songun Politics made public a statement on Mar. 18 urging the U.S. and the south Korean authorities to immediately give up the planned war exercises threatening peace in Asia and the rest of the world.

U.S. Forces of Aggression Busy with Preparations for Joint Military Exercises

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- The United States is pushing the situation on the Korean Peninsula to a new pitch of tension by deploying its forces of aggression in south Korea for RSOI and Foal Eagle joint war maneuvers to be staged in south Korea and in its vicinity, according to a military source.
The U.S. imperialist forces of aggression transferred one wing of Stealth fighter-bomber F-117, the main player of the air force in the war exercises, and at least 300 troops to south Korea from the U.S. mainland in January and deployed overseas-based F-15, F/A-18 and E-2C in south Korea in March.
Those U.S. mainland-and overseas-based warplanes are now engaged in madcap navigation exercises and drills for striking ground targets almost every day. They are also busy with air battle exercises targeted against the DPRK in cooperation with the U.S. 7th Air Force in south Korea.
The 25th Infantry Division of the 1st Corps of the U.S. imperialist forces of aggression has recently been transferred to south Korea from its mainland. And they, at the same time, massively introduced there the latest war hardware to be used in the above-said war maneuvers.
Timed to coincide with these moves, south Korean military ports are crowded with a U.S. landing craft with a U.S. marine expeditionary group aboard, a dock landing craft, a dock landing transport ship and "Blue Ridge," a flag ship of the 7th Fleet of the U.S. imperialist forces of aggression, and vehicle transport ships. Meanwhile, the task force of nuclear-powered super- large carrier "Ronald Reagan" is busy with its maneuver in the waters off the southern coast of Pusan to create a war atmosphere.
In another development, 12 "F-22A" (raptor) Stealth fighter-bombers and over 250 troops deployed in the air force base of the U.S. imperialist forces of aggression in Kadena, Okinawa, from the U.S. mainland in February are ready to participate in the war exercises and Guam-based B-52s are also ready to go into action.

Rodong Sinmun on Keeping Tight Hold on Baton of Revolution

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Friday dedicates an editorial to the 90th anniversary of the Korean National Association formed by indomitable revolutionary fighter Kim Hyong Jik.
Noting that the formation of the KNA by Kim Hyong Jik on March 23, Juche 6 (1917) was a historic event which paved the way for a radical turn in the development of the anti-Japanese national liberation movement in Korea, the editorial says:
The history of great leadership which began with the idea of "Aim high" and has been given continuity pure and clean through generations is now being steadily carried forward by Kim Jong Il.
He has devoted his all to the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered in Mt. Paektu with a noble sense of obligation to the times and revolution, the country and the people. The Korean people owe it to him that they have become to display the honor of a revolutionary people living and struggling in Kim Hyong Jik's idea of "Aim high" through generations and that this land has greeted the new history of the building of a great prosperous powerful nation in which the ideal and desire of the revolutionary forerunners are being brought to overall realization under the banner of Songun.
The Korean revolution led by Kim Jong Il is the one strong in Juche character in which the idea of national independence is being materialized to the fullest measure.
The banner of national independence upheld by Kim Hyong Jik who walked the untrodden path of the Korean revolution at its dawn is flying as always under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
The Korean revolution led by Kim Jong Il is the one with a vast prospect which wins one victory after another with the might of revolutionary comradeship and the might of single-minded unity.
Kim Hyong Jik created a noble history of revolutionary comradeship in the course of the arduous struggle for embodying the idea of "Aim high" after setting it forth.
The tradition of comradeship of the Korean revolution is lofty in its origin and its continuity is firmly guaranteed.
The Korean revolution led by Kim Jong Il is an invincible one which emerges victorious in indomitable fighting spirit.
Kim Hyong Jik said in the early days of his activity that a revolutionary must be prepared for death from hunger, death from beating and death from cold.
The Koreans are a heroic people fighting with the indomitable faith planted in their minds by Kim Jong Il. In this spirit did they change the "Arduous March" into a cheerful march and open a broad avenue for the building of a great prosperous powerful nation, overcoming a thousand and one trials.
It is the greatest honor of the Korean people to vigorously push forward the revolution and construction generation after generation with a tight hold on the baton of the revolution, blessed with illustrious leaders.
The history of the continuity of the Korean revolution should be glorified through generations in single-mindedly upholding Kim Jong Il's Songun policy and devotedly defending the headquarters of the revolution.

Struggle against U.S. and War and GNP Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- South Korean youth and students organizations reportedly released statements on Mar. 18, 25 years since the arson on the "American Cultural Service" in Pusan.
The south Korean Federation of University Student Councils in its statement said that the arson on the above-said service on Mar. 18, 1982 was a brave struggle of youth and students as it disclosed the aggressive nature and colors of the U.S. as a colonial ruler and called upon all the patriotic people to turn out in the movement against the U.S. and war.
Calling on the youth and students to wage a struggle to frustrate the U.S. desperate moves to block the national reunification, impose the disaster of war upon the Korean nation and thus dominate the whole Korean Peninsula, the statement said that this is the way of inheriting the spirit displayed by the participants in the arson.
The Youth and Students Solidarity for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration in its statement said that the anti-U.S. struggle has become a trend in the June 15 era of reunification and the Korean nation is bringing about a heyday of independent reunification through its concerted efforts.
Recalling that those forerunners set fire to the "American Cultural Service" 25 years ago to let the people know about the aggressive nature and the true colors of the U.S., the statement appealed to the members of the solidarity to encourage their schoolmates and people to launch actions against the U.S. and war for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops and against the Grand National Party of south Korea.

Rodong Sinmun Demands Halt to Projected Joint Military Maneuvers

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- The U.S. and south Korean authorities should unconditionally cancel their planned reckless joint military maneuvers against the DPRK if they truly hail the trend of reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula and expect its smooth development.
Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
The DPRK-targeted joint military exercises staged by the U.S. and south Korean bellicose forces in south Korea every year have been a main factor of threatening the peace on the Korean Peninsula and escalating the confrontation and tension on it.
It is impossible to terminate the military confrontation, defuse tension and eliminate the danger of war from the Korean Peninsula unless those DPRK-targeted joint military exercises are brought to an end.
The U.S. and south Korean bellicose forces' projected RSOI and Foal Eagle are typical anti-DPRK saber-rattling.
These war maneuvers will involve tens of thousands of the U.S. imperialist aggression troops and ultra-modern war hardware including a nuclear powered carrier and Stealth fighter-bombers that earned an ill-fame in battle fields of war of aggression in Iraq and various other parts of the world. These war exercises will be expected to be of more provocative nature than any previous ones as main emphasis will be put on offensive exercises including landing, river-crossing and striking targets in the depth.
If the U.S. and south Korean bellicose forces stage such provocative large-scale joint military maneuvers, they will saliently reveal their hostility towards the DPRK and attempt to invade it.
Dialogue and war exercises can never go together. It is hard to expect any success at a dialogue under the situation where people are disturbed by gunfire during DPRK-targeted war maneuvers. This is clearly evidenced by what they experienced in the past. The projected reckless anti-DPRK joint military exercises would only result in disturbing the peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, driving again the inter-Korean relations to a crisis and fanning up the atmosphere of war.

Wreaths Laid before Statues and Grave of Kim Hyong Jik

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- Wreaths were laid before the Statue of Kim Hyong Jik, an indomitable revolutionary fighter and outstanding leader of the anti-Japanese national liberation movement in Korea, in Ponghwa-ri and his grave in Mangyongdae on March 23 on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Korean National Association led by him.
Seen before his statue and grave were wreaths sent by General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
Present at the wreath-laying ceremonies were senior officials of the party, the army and the state, the chairperson of a friendly party, officials of the party and power organs, working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions and working people and school youth and children in Pyongyang.
Also placed there were wreaths in the name of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly and the DPRK Cabinet.

The participants observed a moment's silence in memory of the noble revolutionary life of Kim Hyong Jik.
That day wreaths, bouquets and flowers were placed before his statues at Kim Hyong Jik Military Medical University and in Sakju County of North Phyongan Province and Junggang County of Jagang Province.

World Meteorological Day Observed

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) chose the theme dealing with the issues pending an urgent solution for the existence and activities of human beings and social development in the field of meteorology and the issues, which require much effort, on World Meteorological Day every year and directed main efforts to its implementation.
Minju Joson today says this in a signed article dedicated to the day.
Recalling that the theme for the year 2007 is "Polar Meteorology: Understanding Global Impacts," the article says:
The WMO has made much effort to observe the climatic and environmental changes in the poles and thus prevent the global damage caused by them in close touch with the national meteorological and hydrological services.
A unified and well-organized management system for the meteorological field has been established in the DPRK under the deep concern of the state. The DPRK, as a member state of the WMO, will strengthen the international cooperation with other countries and meteorological organizations to make positive contributions to preventing the damage caused by abnormal climatic phenomena including natural disasters on the global scale in the future, too.

KNA, Pioneer of National Independence and Unity

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- Ninety years have passed since the Korean National Association was formed by Kim Hyong Jik, an indomitable revolutionary fighter and an outstanding leader of the anti-Japanese national liberation movement of Korea (March 23).
The anti-Japanese movement of the Korean people was split and doomed to bitter failure owing to the splitting acts and flunkeyism of nationalists in the 1910s when the destiny of the country was at stake after the occupation of Korea by the Japanese imperialists.
Kim Hyong Jik, basing himself in a deep analysis of the situation, unfolded a far-reaching plan to form a revolutionary organization based on the internal force of the nation with transparent anti-imperialist, independent stand and popular among the people in order to destroy the fascist and repressive politics of the Japanese imperialists and achieve the independence of Korea. And he energetically pushed ahead with its preparation.
Basing himself on the preparations, he formed the Korean National Association, an anti-Japanese underground revolutionary organization, in Pyongyang on March 23, Juche 6 (1917).
The KNA was a secret organization with the aim of achieving national independence and establishing a truly civilized country through the concerted efforts of the Korean nation. It was the largest anti-Japanese underground revolutionary organization of Korean patriots at home and abroad around the March First Popular Uprising.
With the formation of the KNA with the most transparent independent stand against imperialism the anti-Japanese national liberation movement in Korea came to have the pivotal organization to rally broad segments of the people with a correct purpose of struggle and a new phase was opened up for achieving the unity of the anti-Japanese revolutionary forces.
Under the guidance of Kim Hyong Jik the KNA waged various forms of struggle including the revolutionary armed activities and united broad sections of the people to vigorously arouse them to the anti-Japanese struggle.
The KNA made a great contribution to developing the anti-Japanese national liberation movement in Korea to a proletarian revolution from the nationalist movement and achieving the unity for the anti-Japanese independence movement.
The immortal exploits Kim Hyong Jik performed to make a history of national independence and unity at the dawn of the Korean revolution were carried forward by President Kim Il Sung and have been carried into a brilliant reality by Kim Jong Il who has the idea of loving the country, nation and people on the highest level.

Polar Meteorological Research in DPRK Intensified

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- March 23 is World Meteorological Day.
On the occasion of the day, Director of the Central Meteorological Institute of the DPRK Ryu Ki Ryol gave the following answers to the questions put by KCNA as regards the polar meteorology, the theme for the year 2007:
The Executive Council of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) decided to set "Polar meteorology: understanding global impacts" as the theme for the year 2007.
The recent years witnessed global warming on the rise across the world due to the greenhouse gas emissions including the carbonic acid gas.
In particular, the global warming has been observed more apparently in the poles with a great temperature disparity. As a result, some of glacier and tundra have been melted away and the ice covering rivers and lakes reduced, thus causing a great danger to the eco-system in the areas.
Therefore, it is very important for each country to exert more efforts for the research into the polar meteorology, which has a great effect on the Earth.
The case is the same with our country badly hit by the global warming.
In recent years, the temperature rise in our country is two or three times the average temperature rise on the globe in the 20th century.
It compels the institute to intensify the research into the polar areas in the field of the climate.
The institute plans to observe the El Nino effect on the polar areas. It is also going to observe the relations between the El Nino and the meteorological conditions in the Polar zones and the relations between the meteorological conditions of the polar areas and the formation and development of high atmospheric pressure in the Sea of Okhotsk this year as the high atmospheric pressure formed in the Sea of Okhotsk brought cold to the east coast of Korea in recent years.
Through the media the state is working hard to help the people have a good understanding of the influence of the global warming, reduction of ice acreage in the Arctic Regions and the hole of the ozone layer on the earth.

Promising Women's Ice Hockey of DPRK

Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- The women's ice hockey made a new start in the DPRK two decades ago with teenage girls who had a great ambition to glorify the nation's honor.
The first women's ice hockey team was organized in the then Jagang Provincial Sports Group in Juche 76 (1987), which was followed by various units.
The women's ice hockey players had accumulated experience and courage through their continued playing tours.
The DPRK Women's Ice Hockey Team made its debut in the contest for the qualification for the World Women's Ice Hockey Championships (B Class) held in Hungary in March 2000 to win the first place.
It is fully demonstrating its ability, overpowering the opponents with its intensive attack and tactful skating technique at the current 2007 World Women's Ice Hockey Championships (B Class).
Mun Yong Song, secretary of the DPRK Ice Hockey Association, told KCNA that the future of the DPRK women's ice hockey is optimistic.
In recent years the state investment in the women's ice hockey, he added, has been augmented and more similar teams have been organized in various sports groups.
Meanwhile, the Juvenile Sports School attached to the Ice Rink and other juvenile sports schools are training many talent reserves to dominate the world women's ice hockey.
