Inter-Korean General-level Military Talks Held
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The 5th north-south general-level military talks were held at Thongil Pavilion in the area of the north side at Panmunjom Tuesday.
Present there were a delegation of the north side led by Lieut. General of the Korean People's Army Kim Yong Chol.
Several pending issues arising in the military field including the issue of defusing military confrontation and tension and providing military guarantees for north-south cooperation and exchange were placed on the agenda of the talks.
The head of the north side's delegation speaking at the talks referred to the lessons to be drawn from the north-south military relations in the past which underwent repeated suspension and resumption.
If one side closes the door of dialogue, quite contrary to the desire of the nation and away from the stand of attaching importance to the nation, this will mean blocking the way of easing the military tension, he said, underscoring the need to settle all the inter-Korean military issues on the principle of putting the interests of the nation above all and protecting it.
Should one side fail to respond to the fair and aboveboard principles and proposals that had been advanced and implement the military agreements already reached to save its face, this will make the north-south dialogue meaningless and entail very serious consequences.
Referring to the principled stand of the north side on the tasks to be settled at the talks, he said:
Firstly, both sides should decide on the issues of preventing clashes in the West Sea of Korea and realizing joint fishing there as early as possible as they had already been taken up.
Secondly, both sides should take military measures, keeping pace with the reenergized inter-Korean economic cooperation and exchange.
Thirdly, both sides should take measures to thoroughly implement the military agreements already adopted.

Seminar on Works of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il Held
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- Telephone seminars on President Kim Il Sung's work "On Eliminating Dogmatism and Formalism and Establishing Juche in Ideological Work" and Kim Jong Il's work "On Preserving the Juche Character and National Character of the Revolution and Construction" were held two times under the sponsorship of the U.S. Group for the Study of Songun Politics.
Present there were members of the U.S. Group for the Study of Songun Politics, the British Association for the Study of Songun Policy and the British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea.
Speakers at the seminars emphasized the profound ideas expounded in the works of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and their significance.
They explained the importance of preserving the Juche character and national character in the struggle to reject the imperialists' loud-mouthed "globalization" and realize independence against imperialism.
Socialist Korea Praised
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) --The DPRK, the land of Juche, is advancing along the path of prosperity under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.
Bele Moukeleng, chairman of the Group for the Study of the Juche Idea of University of Kinshasa in Democratic Congo, said this when interviewed by KCNA before his departure from here after visiting the DPRK. Socialist Korea will shed more brilliant rays thanks to the Songun politics, he added.
Visiting various places of the DPRK he realized more keenly that Kim Jong Il is a peerlessly great man carrying forward to completion the revolutionary cause started by President Kim Il Sung, he noted, and continued:
Kim Jong Il has firmly defended socialist Korea centred on the popular masses under the uplifted banner of Songun.
The DPRK has been converted into a military power capable of beating back any aggressors at a single stroke.
The military parade celebrating the 75th founding anniversary of the Korean People's Army strikingly demonstrated the might of the KPA which has grown to be an invincible army.
The Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il gives great strength and inspiration to the world progressives.
Kim Jong Il Highly Praised in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Internet magazine "Trend of Situation" on May 2 carried an article contributed by Jon Yong Ho, permanent researcher of the south Korean Institute for Civic Rights Studies in which he praised the line of economic construction of the Workers' Party of Korea in the era of Songun under the title "Economic Strategy of Kim Jong Il, chairman of the National Defence Commission, in the 21st Century."
The article stressed that the building of an economic power stepped up by the DPRK in all fields despite the evermore undisguised U.S. hostile policy toward it is possible thanks to the Songun politics.
The DPRK is following the policy of attaching importance to the national defence industry because it serves as a basis for providing a material guarantee for armed forces for self-defence given the reality in which the DPRK is standing in acute military confrontation with the U.S., the article noted, proving the justice of the line of economic construction in the era of Songun.
The DPRK's stand of maintaining the line of building an independent national economy is right, the article said, adding:
The line of economic construction in the era of Songun is characterized by the fact that it makes it possible to develop economy in a diversified and comprehensive manner. The socialist independent economy in the north aims at satisfying the demands of the country and people, instead of earning money.
Kim Jong Il put forward the People's Army as a main force of the revolution and has led the nation to accelerate the building of an economic power by encouraging the whole society to learn from the revolutionary spirit of the army.
If the goal to build an economic power is attained, it will be possible to bring the people a happy and stable life as desired by Kim Jong Il and, at the same time, make great progress in achieving common prosperity of Northeast Asia and in the efforts to accomplish the cause of national reunification. In the future the north's economy will develop its own way on the principle of Songun quite different from a capitalist mode.
Abolition of NSL Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The Family Movement for Realizing Democracy in south Korea reportedly held the 662nd Thursday rally in Seoul on May 3 demanding that the "National Security Law" be abolished and mediaman Ri Si U released at once.
Speakers at the rally recalled that Ri has been on a hunger strike for 15 consecutive days since he was arrested on the charge of violation of the NSL, adding that he was quite right when he disclosed facts about U.S. military bases.
Raising the question as to why the just activities conducted by Ri are liable to punishment by the NSL and the law on the military secret, they called upon the citizens to struggle to the end in order to have the evil law repealed as early as possible.
An action program of the organization was made public at the rally.
Rodong Sinmun Calls for Patriotic Devotion
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The patriotic devotion of the Korean people highly displayed in building a powerful and prosperous country is a manifestation of the Korean nation-first spirit to eternally glorify the dignity and honor of the nation, declares Rodong Sinmun in an article Wednesday.
The Korean people's patriotism is genuine patriotism and most fervent socialist patriotism as it is based on the Korean nation-first spirit that our leader, our idea, our army and our system are best, the author of the article says, and goes on:
The Korean nation-first spirit of the Korean people is the basic guarantee for them to absolutely trust and uphold to the last their leader and the basic factor of the display of boundless devotion in the efforts to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation.
It is also a mental motive force that helps preserve the national character and actively keep alive the advantageous national traditions.
The dignity and honor of the Korean people as Kim Il Sung's nation have been enhanced in the course of building up invincible state power under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.
The Korean people cherish the Korean nation-first spirit as immutable faith, and it is a powerful weapon which helps valiantly pull through any ordeal.
The last ten years or more have been years in which the pride and self-confidence of the Korean nation have reached the highest plane and the patriotic devotion of the Korean people have been given fuller play than ever before. Holding High Banner of National Independence Called for
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- National independence serves as a true banner of patriotism to be held aloft by whoever has patriotic will. All Koreans should courageously turn out in the movement for national independence irrespective of ideology and ism if they are to perform their responsibilities and roles they have assumed before the nation in the sacred patriotic struggle for national reunification.
Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article.

The reunification of the country is the most urgent and greatest patriotic cause of the nation.
For the Koreans greatest and most ardent patriotism is to devote oneself to the cause of national reunification, finding the worth and happiness of living in the struggle for national reunification. The Koreans with the same blood and soul should bravely turn out on the road of patriotism for national concord and reunification irrespective of ideology and ism.
For the Koreans most ardent patriotism lies in struggling to achieve national reunification by their own efforts under the uplifted banner of national independence.
All of them should wage a nationwide movement for reunification, bearing in mind that genuine patriotism in the June 15 era of reunification lies in struggling for independent reunification.

Repression by S. Korean Military Authorities Denounced
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Phyongthaek reportedly held a press conference in front of the Defence Ministry building in Seoul on May 4 in denunciation of the indiscriminate suppression by the south Korean military authorities and their seizure of land aimed at expanding the U.S. military base.
Speakers at the press conference recalled that the ministry let loose an army force to reduce the Taechu Primary School in Phyongthaek City, Kyonggi Province, to ruins 1 year ago, and demanded that those responsible, including the minister of Defence who ordered brutal forced evacuation, be punished.
They deplored the miserable lot of the south Korean people who were deprived of their land of living and burdened even with the expenses for the transfer of the U.S. military base and for the depollution of the U.S. military bases by the U.S. and the flunkeyist traitor forces, including the Defence Ministry, obedient to it.
They said the U.S. military base should not be transferred but be totally dismantled.
The press release read out at the conference pointed out that the expansion of the U.S. military base was aimed to realize the U.S. forces' "strategic flexibility". And it declared that the measure committee would wage a more valiant fight for the withdrawal of the U.S. forces.
Historic Relics Preserved Well
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government is making an effort to preserve and manage historic relics and remains.
This spring North Hwanghae Province complemented colors of 38 cultural heritages, scenic spots and natural monuments, and improved 33 kilometers of roads leading to them.
More than 20,000 trees of good species were planted in reserves and sections of mountain walls totaling a thousand and several hundred meters in Mt. Jongbang, Hwangju Township and other places were restored to original state.
Twenty-seven historic relics including the Simwon Temple in Yonthan County and Kwijin Temple in Sohung County were rearranged and 17.8 kilometers of ditches were mended to prevent them from being damaged by flood.
South Phyongan Province repaired pillars and large beams of the Anguk Temple built in 503. Now, it looks hoary.
And the Paeksang Pavilion in Anju City was colorfully painted and the tomb in Songchon County in which the servants were buried with their dead master and the residence of Kim Ung So, a famous patriotic commander, in Ryonggang County were also repaired.
In addition, the fort in Mt. Murungbi, the Pombawi Tomb and others in Kangwon Province were rehabilitated and flower gardens were created around them.
Pyongyang City Taekwon-do School
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- National sports are being encouraged in the DPRK. Especially Pyongyang City Taekwon-do School is doing its bit in it.
Kim Jong Chol, deputy principal, told KCNA:
Before the establishment of this school, Taekwon-do was taught to pupils at the Taekwon-do circles of schoolchildren's palaces and halls including the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace and Pyongyang Schoolchildren's Palace and primary schools in different parts of the country.
In accordance with the popularization of Taekwon-do, Pyongyang City Extracurricular Taekwon-do School was set up. And it has developed into full-fledged Pyongyang City Taekwon-do School in Juche 89 (2000).
Many gold medal winners of the recent several World Juvenile Taekwon-do Championships and International Martial Arts Games are graduates of our school.
Taekwon-do experts produced by our school are playing an important part in the teaching and dissemination of Taekwon-do over the country.
Now the school gives educations in ssirum (Korean wrestling) and paduk (go) as well as Taekwon-do.
Floral Tribute Paid to Fallen Soldiers of Soviet Army
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- Staff members of the Russian embassy here Wednesday laid a wreath before the Liberation Tower in Pyongyang on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the victory of Russia in the Great Patriotic War.
Present there were Ambassador Valery Sukhinin and staff members of the Russian embassy and diplomatic envoys of different countries here.
After laying a wreath in the name of the Russian embassy, the participants paid silent tribute to fallen soldiers of the Soviet Army.
They also laid a wreath and bouquets in the cemetery of fallen soldiers of the Soviet Army in Sadong District.
Samsu Power Station Commissioned in DPRK
Samsu, May 9 (KCNA) -- A ceremony of commissioning the Samsu Power Station was held on the spot on Wednesday.
The completion of the power station will make it possible to well preserve and manage the revolutionary battle sites and historic sites in the area of Mt. Paektu in their original state, satisfactorily address the power problem in the area of Samjiyon and bring about a turn in improving the standard of people's living and economic development.
A congratulatory message of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea to the members and officials of the 618 construction shock brigade who performed labor feats in the construction of the power station and their helpers was conveyed there.
The WPK Central Committee in the congratulatory message highly praised the builders involved in the construction of the power station and their helpers for having displayed matchless heroism and devotion true to the WPK's grand nature-remaking plan and built another monumental structure in the era of Songun.

National Symposium on Medical Science Held
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- A national symposium on medical science took place in Pyongyang from May 7 to 9 to commemorate the 95th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
At the symposium Kim In Guk, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Medical Association, was the first to make the speech entitled "The immortal exploits the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung performed by establishing the best socialist health care system and paving a clear way for protecting the lives of the working people and promoting their health".
He recalled that the President established the most advanced socialist health care system the keynote of which is perfect universal free medical care, the preventive treatment system and a section doctor system and pursued popular public health policies at every stage of the revolution and construction.
The exploits performed by the President in the field of public health are shining more brilliantly under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.
Then followed panel discussions on sanitation and anti-epidemic science, basic medical science, internal medicine, surgery, Koryo medicine and pharmacy.
Presented there were at least 400 papers on medical science and technology dealing with important problems arising in carrying out the health care work as required by the IT age.

V ronda de conversaciones militares a nivel de general N-S
Pyongyang, 9 de mayo (ATCC) -- Quedo iniciada la vispera la V ronda de Conversaciones Militares a Nivel de General entre el Norte y el Sur de Corea en el "Pabellon Thong-il" situado en la zona nortena de Phanmunjom.
En el encuentro participo la delegacion nortena presidida por el teniente general del Ejercito Popular de Corea Kim Yong Chol.
Se incluyeron en la agenda de la ocasion varios problemas pendientes en el dominio militar como la eliminacion del enfrentamiento y tension militares y la adopcion de medidas de garantia militar para la cooperacion e intercambio entre ambas partes.
Al hacer uso de la palabra, Kim Yong Chol analizo las lecciones que deben ser sacadas de las anteriores relaciones militares N-S que sufrieron en repetidas ocasiones la ruptura y la reanudacion.
Si alguna parte cierra la puerta del dialogo a contrapelo del anhelo nacional siendo infiel a la posicion de apreciar a la nacion coreana, sera bloqueado el camino del alivio de tension militar, dijo y destaco la necesidad de solucionar siempre todos los problemas militares entre el Norte y el Sur adhiriendose al principio de la preponderancia de la nacion y de la proteccion a esta.
Agrego que si uno no consiente por el decoro los justos e imparciales principios e iniciativas ya planteados, no valdra la pena el mismo dialogo Norte-Sur y esto tendra graves consecuencias.
Al referirse a la posicion de principios de la parte Norte respecto a las tareas a ser solucionadas en la presente ronda, resalto los siguientes puntos:
Primero, ambas partes deben solucionar cuanto antes el ya debatido problema de prevenir conflictos en el Mar Oeste de Corea y realizar la pesca conjunta.
Segundo, ambas partes deben tomar las medidas de garantia militar al paralelo de la activacion de la cooperacion e intercambio economicos entre el Norte y el Sur.
Tercero, ambas partes deben tomar las medidas para ejecutar estrictamente los acuerdos militaras ya aprobados.

La independencia nacional es el autentico camino patriotico
Pyongyang, 9 de mayo (ATCC) -- La independencia nacional es la autentica bandera patriotica que deben enarbolar quienes abrigan el proposito patriotico. Para cumplir con toda su responsabilidad y papel asumidos ante la nacion en el sagrado camino del patriotismo para la reunificacion de la patria, los coreanos deben tomar con audacia el camino de la independencia nacional por encima de las diferencias de ideas e ideales.
Asi senala el diario Rodong Sinmun en un articulo individual del dia 9 y continua:
La reunificacion de la patria es la mas apremiante tarea patriotica suprema de la nacion.
Para la nacion coreana el maximo patriotismo esta en buscar la dignidad y felicidad de la vida en la lucha por la reunificacion de la patria y en dedicarse con abnegacion a esta causa. Todos los coreanos deben tomar el camino del patriotismo para la unidad y la reunificacion de la nacion por encima de las diferencias de ideas, ideales y tendencias politicas.
Para la nacion coreana el maximo patriotismo radica en la lucha por lograr la reunificacion de la patria con las fuerzas propias de los coreanos con la bandera de la independencia nacional en alto. Todos los coreanos deben estar bien conscientes de que el autentico camino patriotico de la epoca de reunificacion iniciada el 15 de junio esta en la lucha por la reunificacion independiente y enfrascarse en esta empresa suprema de la nacion.
Todos los integrantes de la nacion que quieren dedicar su vida a esta causa patriotica deben laborar con abnegacion para adelantar la reunificacion de la patria con la bandera de independencia nacional en alto.
Conservacion de vestigios y reliquias historicos en Corea
Pyongyang, 9 de mayo (ATCC) -- En Corea se presta mucha atencion a la conservacion de los vestigios y objetos historicos.
En la estacion primaveral de este ano, en la provincia de Hwanghae del Norte se llevo a cabo la pintura complementaria de 38 vestigios culturales, lugares famosos y monumentos naturales, aparte de la reparacion de un tramo de 33 kilometros de las carreteras hacia estos lugares.
Mas de 20 mil arboles de buena variedad echaron sus raices en las zonas de proteccion de la naturaleza y se restauraron mil y cientos de metros de las murallas de varios castillos como el del monte Jongbang y el de la cabecera de Hwangju.
Se arreglaron 27 patrimonios culturales historicos incluso los templos Simwon y Kwijin, de los distritos de Yonthan y Sohung, respectivamente, y se desbrozaron 17.8 kilometros de acequia a fin de protegerlos de las inundaciones.
Mientras tanto, la provincia de Phyong-an del Sur logro reproducir los vetustos aspectos del templo Anguk, construido en el ano 503, al reparar sus columnas y vigas.
Igualmente, pinto en varios colores el mirador Paeksang de la ciudad de Anju y reparo una tumba de criados vivos enterrados junto con su senor muerto en el distrito de Songchon y la casa del celebre general patriotico Kim Ung So en el distrito de Ryonggang.
Por otra parte, la provincia de Kangwon restituyo el castillo del monte Murungbi y la tumba Pombawi y formo un jardin de flores en sus periferias.
@Los funcionarios y trabajadores de la rama de todo el pais dan mas impulso a sus trabajos para conservar y cuidar mejor las reliquias y vestigios historicos y los monumentos naturales.
Escuela de Taekwon-do de la ciudad de Pyongyang
Pyongyang, 9 de mayo (ATCC) -- La Escuela de Taekwon-do de la ciudad de Pyongyang hace un gran aporte a la promocion de deportes nacionales en Corea.
Consultado por la Agencia Telegrafica Central de Corea, el subdirector de este plantel deportivo Kim Jong Chol relato sobre la trayectoria del mismo.
Antes de inaugurada nuestra escuela, se ensenaba el Taekwon-do en los Palacios de Ninos y Escolares de Mangyongdae y de Pyongyang y en las instituciones de igual indole, los clubes y los circulos organizados en varias escuelas primarias, preciso el pedagogo y prosiguio:
Posteriormente, cuando en el ambito nacional entro en una etapa mas alta la masificacion de ese arte marcial ortodoxo de Corea, se fundo la Escuela Extraescolar de Taekwon-do de la ciudad de Pyongyang, que en el 89 (2000) de la Era Juche adquirio la actual fisonomia como base de formacion de reservas de esta disciplina.
Son egresados de nuestra escuela buena parte de los ganadores de preseas doradas en varias ediciones del campeonato mundial de Taekwon-do de juniores y las competencias internacionales de arte marcial.
Creo que los especialistas formados aqui desempenan un gran rol en la ensenanza y la divulgacion a escala nacional de Taekwon-do.
Aparte de esta modalidad, en nuestra escuela se imparte tambien la educacion especializada de Sirum (lucha tradicional de Corea) y Paduk (Go-chess).
