Staff Members of Pyongyang Mission of AINDF Visit Monument to Three Charters for National Reunification
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Jo Il Min, chief of the Pyongyang Mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front, and its staff members visited the Monument to the Three Charters for National Reunification on Tuesday on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration.
They went round the body of the monument and groups of sculptures on the subsidiary theme standing as splendid monumental edifices, and souvenir stones contributed by Koreans from the north and the south and abroad, organizations and individuals of various countries and regions.
At the end of the visit Jo Il Min said that President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il represent the lodestar of national reunification and the sun of the nation.
The Monument to the Three Charters for National Reunification will always tower high along with history thanks to the warm hearts of the Koreans waging a strenuous struggle to drive the foreign forces out of this land and greet the morning of reunification at an early date and of the world progressive people actively supporting the cause of Korea's reunification.
No matter how desperately the U.S. imperialists and the pro-U.S. anti-reunification forces may work, they cannot arrest the movement of the Korean nation for reunification making dynamic advance in the noble idea clarified in the Three Charters for National Reunification.
U.S. Moves to Reinforce "UN Command" under Fire
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification, the Committee to Deal with U.S. Forces Affairs of the Lawyers Association for Democratic Society and other civic and public organizations of south Korea reportedly held a press conference in front of the building of the Ministry of National Defence in Seoul on June 8, at which they condemned the U.S. moves to reinforce the "UN Command".
Speakers at the press conference accused the U.S. of blustering recently that the "UN Command" should become a hardcore command deterring a war and supporting battles in case of the outbreak of war and the "UN commander" should be empowered to deter a war even after the right to command wartime operations is transferred.
The U.S. moves to reinforce the "UN Command" are aimed to consolidate the military domination and control over the south Korean armed forces and legalize a war against the DPRK in case of "emergency" on the Korean Peninsula, they noted.
At the end of the press conference representatives of civic and public organizations handed to the ministry a letter of protest which calls for the disbandment of the "UN Command", stop to the moves to expand the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek and the U.S. commitment to cover the expenses for depolluting the returned U.S. military bases, etc.
Memorial Service for Schoolgirls Held in S. Korea
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration in south Korea reportedly held a memorial service for middle schoolgirls Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son in Kyonggi Province on June 9 on the lapse of five years since they were ruthlessly killed by a U.S. armored car.
The participants in the service said they should never forget the bestial atrocities of the GIs who drove an armored car over the two schoolgirls on a roadside to death.
They called upon the people from all walks of life to turn out in the struggle till they oust the U.S. forces from south Korea and achieve genuine independence, democracy and reunification.
After the service, its participants staged a demonstration of protest in front of the U.S. Second Division base in Uijongbu City, holding boards of placards bearing the letters demanding the withdrawal of the U.S. forces, etc.
Anniversary of June Popular Resistance Observed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- An all-people grand march was reportedly made in Seoul on June 10 under the sponsorship of the Committee of Civilian Organisations for Events Inheriting the June Resistance on the Occasion of Its 20th Anniversary, which groups at least 1,000 civic and public organizations in south Korea.
Prior to the march, a joint declaration of civic and public organizations on the 20th anniversary of the June resistance was read out.
The declaration pointed out that a departed soul of dictatorship is called back to be at large in this land at this time, 20 years since the anti-fascist struggle for democratization. It said the descendants of the dictatorship, which trampled down democracy in the past, are making desperate efforts to seize power again.
It noted that democracy was trampled underfoot by the military dictatorial regimes in the past and it is now mercilessly violated again by the authorities yielding to the U.S. in its moves for "globalization of neo-liberalism".
The declaration called for inheriting the spirit of the June popular resistance to bring about the reunification of the country.
The participants in the march deplored that they live in the savage era in which the "National Security Law" is still put in force. And they stressed that the people from all walks of life living in the June 15 era of reunification should turn out in a second June resistance.
They underlined the need for all the progressive and democratic forces to be closely united to shatter the ambition of the Grand National Party of south Korea to come to power again.
Meanwhile, events were held in Seoul, Pusan, Taegu, Kwangju, Jeju and all other parts of south Korea on June 9 to mark the 20th anniversary of the June popular resistance.
Round-Table Talks Held on June 15 Joint Declaration
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Members of the delegation of the Chinese Regional Committee of the Overseas Side's Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration now staying in the homeland to participate in the June 15 grand festival for national reunification held round-table talks at Pyongyang Koryo Hotel on Tuesday on the validity and vitality of the historic joint declaration and the devoted service for the cause of national reunification.
Head of the delegation Cha Sang Bo said the publication of the joint declaration marked a great event as it brought hope for reunification to all the fellow countrymen. The joint declaration ushered in a new era of independent reunification in which Koreans get reconciled and cooperate with each other and work hard to achieve common prosperity, he noted.
No sooner had the joint declaration been published than was unanimously supported and approved by all the fellow countrymen and warmly hailed by world people, he added.
Deputy head of the delegation Choe Su Bong said that the joint declaration is the precious fruition of the noblest patriotic will of Kim Jong Il. Kim Jong Il is a peerless patriot, lodestar of national reunification and brilliant sun of the nation as he has led the struggle of the Koreans for reunification to victory with his veteran and tested leadership ability, distinguished personality and noble virtues, he said, and continued:
We Koreans will highly praise and convey to posterity the undying feats Kim Jong Il has performed in accomplishing the cause of reunification.
Member of the delegation Ju Kye Suk said that the present era is an era in which all Koreans are working hard to achieve independent reunification, true to the June 15 joint declaration.
Member of the delegation Ri Hun noted that the joint declaration serves as a great banner indicating the way to be followed by the Korean nation for independent reunification.
The head of the delegation declared that they would powerfully encourage the compatriots from all walks of life in the nationwide movement for reunification, true to the joint declaration, the banner of reunification common to the nation, and turn out as one in the struggle to carry out the tasks of attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity.
Middle School Teachers and Students Hold Anti-U.S. Meeting
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- An anti-U.S. meeting was held by the teachers and students of Moranbong Middle School No. 1 Tuesday.
On June 13, 2002, five years ago, troops of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces present in south Korea, while going on a rampage in a war rehearsal against the DPRK in the area of Yangju County, Kyonggi Province, committed the brutality of running the caterpillars of an armored car over schoolgirls Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son who were passing by.
Speakers at the meeting bitterly denounced the shocking murder committed in broad daylight as an extra-large crime which could be perpetrated only by bloodthirsty beasts and wolves rabid in man-killing.
They extended warm compatriotic support and encouragement to the south Korean people, school youth and children in their struggle to settle account with the murderers and wreak vengeance rankling in their hearts and bring a new world of independence and reunification.
They called upon the south Koreans to decisively oppose the war moves of the U.S. and pro-U.S. conservative forces and turn out as one in the anti-U.S. resistance to put an end to the U.S. imperialists' military occupation and colonial domination, holding high the banner of attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity.
An appeal to the south Korean students which was adopted at the meeting said that the students and people in south Korea could not avoid the miserable lot of Hyo Sun and Mi Son and the second tragedy of Kwangju as long as the U.S. imperialist aggression forces stay in south Korea.
Let us sweep away the pro-U.S. traitorous forces including the "Grand National Party", actively support and defend the June 15 joint declaration which will bring a new morning of independent reunification and resolutely reject all the attempts to cut out the very core of the joint declaration and scrap it, urged the appeal.
S. Koreans Called upon to Wage More Dynamic Anti-U.S. Actions
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Soldiers of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces in south Korea drove their armored car over the two middle schoolgirls on the roadside in broad daylight, killing them in cold blood. This was the most barbaric murder in world history.
Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article carried five years since their tragic deaths.
It goes on:
The more than six decade-long history of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces' presence in south Korea is a crime-woven history characterized by contempt for Koreans, acts of aggression, murder and all sorts of other crimes.
Upon landing in south Korea, the U.S. troops massacred the people calling for the establishment of a unified government representing the whole of Korea, trampling down upon the freedom and democracy of the south Korean people. The U.S. imperialists' policy for killing and dominating Koreans found a more vivid manifestation in the facts that they provoked a war of aggression and massacred Koreans without hesitation. In the post-war period, too, the U.S. imperialists did not respect even the elementary sovereignty, democracy and rights of south Koreans but wantonly violated them, turning south Korea into a solid bridgehead for Asian aggression. In consequence, during the more than six decades-long presence of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces in south Korea, not a single day passed without seeing bloodshed of innocent people and disgraceful cases.
The murder of Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son which triggered off popular anti-U.S. resistance five years ago was just a tip of iceberg of the countless cases of crimes committed by the U.S. forces engrossed in man-hunting. Not only the families of the slain girls but all other south Koreans shook with the resentment at the murderers. It was entirely just for the participants in the candlelight demonstrations to have strongly demanded the U.S. president to apologize for the crime and punish the murderers.
The U.S. forces side, however, harbored the murderers for five months, asserting from the very day of the occurrence of the case that it happened while they were "performing their official duties" and whisked them away to their country after declaring them not guilty.
It is impossible to prevent such bloodshed and murder of south Koreans unless the U.S. forces' policy of occupation is terminated in south Korea, the article notes, calling upon the south Korean people to completely discard worship and flunkeyism towards America and vigorously turn out in the anti-U.S. struggle not to leave themselves and their beloved sons and daughters and brothers to the tender mercy of the wolf-like Yankees.
Pongsan Masque Dance
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Pongsan Masque Dance is associated with the noble patriotism shown by the great persons of Mt. Paektu who have devoted themselves to enrich the national culture and art.
The folk dance is a masque satirizing the exploiting classes, which had been widely disseminated from long ago in the northwest area of Korea centering on Pongsan.
The three generals of Mt. Paektu appreciated the performance of Pongsan Masque Dance in June Juche 35 (1946) and indicated how to develop it into a popular folk dance.
It was President Kim Il Sung who restored the dance which had vanished even in the memories of experts due to the Japan's military occupation upon Korea and its policy of obliterating the Korean culture.
In the spring of 1946 the President instructed officials to develop the original dance. When they found out dancers of the masque, he took a measure to perfect the dance and preserve it.
The lofty will of the President who valued the legacies of the national culture has been carried into practice under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.
He saw it to hold a national presentation meeting of dancers in 1986 on the lapse of 40 years since the President appreciated the dance and took a step to refilmize and perfect scenes of the silent documentary "Pongsan Masque Dance" made after the war to suit the requirement of the present reality.
He saw a performance of masque dance given by peasants of the Unjong Special Livestock Co-op Farm in 2003 while providing on-the-spot guidance to it. He paid a deep attention to the work down to the issue of masks and gave important words that would serve as guidelines in disseminating and developing traditional folk dances.
Today the Pongsan Masque Dance has been completed in accordance with the modern aesthetic sense.
Developing Korean Painting
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- The traditional Korean painting is developing in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Kim Jong Il laid stress on the importance of the Korean painting in building the Juche-oriented fine art in his famous work "On Developing the Korean Painting" on June 13, Juche 61 (1972).
He, in the work, elucidates the theoretical and practical issues on completing the drawing art of the Korean painting in accordance with modern aesthetic sense and developing all other genres of the fine art on the basis of it.
Under his guidance, the Korean painting has undergone a radical change in its content and form and developed into main drawing form of the socialist national fine art.
The Korean paintings "Long March Coupled with Bloody Battles against the Japanese Imperialists", "1994, the Year of Bitter Tears", "Spring after Overcoming Difficulties" and the others are works reflecting the reverence of the Korean people for the peerlessly great men.
The works based on various genres including the Korean paintings "Rakdong River-Crossing Battle", "Eight Brave Soldiers of Phohang", "Waves of Sea Kumgang" have enriched the treasure house of Juche-oriented fine art.
The Korean paintings "Kangson in Evening Glow", "Support to the Front of Kosong People", "Peace", "Mt. Kumgang in Summer" and other masterpieces which are of national treasure value won special prizes and gold medals at the fine art exhibitions held in Italy, Poland and China.
The Korean paintings "Lake Chon of Mt. Paektu", "River Nam in Winter", "Reunification Rainbow" and "Pongsan Masque Dance" were awarded the gold prizes in the 8th and the 9th Beijing International Art Exhibitions.
Members of the exhibition organizing committees and visitors lauded about the mysterious combination of prominent stroking and black linings with colors and extolled to the skies the high standard of the Korean fine art.
Scenic Spots on West Coast of Korea
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- There are a lot of famous scenic spots on the shore of the West Sea of Korea.
The Jangsan Cape is one of them, which is located in the western tip of the Ryongyon Peninsula, Ryongyon County, South Hwanghae Province.
Many species of plants including Evodia Daniellii Benn and Catalpa ovata are growing in the cape stretching out far into the sea.
There is the Jangsan Cape Plant Reserve on the east of the cape.
The Monggum Inlet and Kumi Inlet are located at the points respectively 10-odd kilometers northeast of and 30-odd kilometers east of the cape.
The name of the Monggum Inlet is derived from the story that the magnificent view of sea can be seen only in dream.
The inlet presents picturesque scenery with white sand beach, green pine trees and flowers of sweet brier.
The Kumi Inlet, as the name implies, is endowed with nine scenic beauties including clear and blue sea water, mysterious rocks and cliffs on Mt. Pongdae and the vast sand beach along the seashore.
Also well-known as the beautiful places are the Wau Islet, the shape of a bull lying in the placid sea, and the Jingangpho Bathing Resort.
The world leading West Sea Barrage, a bank linking various islets made by the large and long distance belt conveyer from the Unryul Mine, the Pidan Islet at the mouth of River Amnok and 100-ri Youth Orchard are adding beauty to the seashore of the West Sea of Korea.
All Koreans Called upon to Preserve Their Mother Tongue
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- It is an urgent requirement for protecting and strengthening the national character to preserve the national language and make an effective use of it at present.
Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article.
The issue of preserving the national language is a vital matter related to the destiny of the nation, the article notes, and goes on:
Language is one of the important criteria defining the commonness of a nation and its character.
A national language reflects the soul, dignity and tradition of each nation. Underlying the culture created and developed by each country and nation and its tradition is the role played by language. It is very important to preserve and develop the national language now that the popular masses live on and carve out their destiny with a national state as a unit. Losing a national language means the loss of the soul, dignity and tradition of the nation and its ruin in the end.
A nation can develop independently only when it preserves the purity of its language. The commonness of the language along with one and the same blood makes it possible to preserve the homogeneity of the nation. To preserve the purity of the language is, therefore, of weighty importance in protecting the national language and achieving national unity and development.
Preserving the national language and making an effective use of it present themselves as an urgent issue at present in view of the reckless and crafty moves of the imperialists to obliterate national languages, the article says, and goes on:
The imperialists are now working hard to obliterate the national character as well as Juche character of other countries and nations under the brigandish signboard of "globalization".
Their loudmouthed "globalization" of language is aimed at integrating diverse national languages into Western languages and assimilating and subordinating all nations to them in a bid to realize their hegemonic ambition with ease.
The moves of the imperialists to "globalize" languages are part of their operations to obliterate other nations. Recent years witnessed the disappearance of various kinds of languages from the earth. This requires each country and nation to protect their own mother tongues and make the best use of them.
Women of North and South Vow to Defend Peace against War
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Korean Democratic Women's Union and the preparatory committee of the south Korean Women's Solidarity released a resolution of women in the north and the south for defending peace against war Wednesday five years since two middle schoolgirls were killed by GIs in south Korea.
It is five years since GIs' brutal killing of the two schoolgirls touched off resentment of south Koreans, turning the whole of south Korea into a huge sea of anti-U.S. candlelight demonstrators, a resolution noted, adding: GIs' shuddering atrocities and high-handed and arbitrary practices have become all the more pronounced as the days go by. Such acts of the GIs have touched off towering indignation of all the fellow countrymen.
The women in the north and the south who are bringing up the younger generation of the homeland will work hard to remove the source of war from this land as early as possible and resolutely check all forms of joint military exercises and arms buildup.
They will firmly solidarize with political parties, organizations and figures from different social standings at home and abroad who love and value peace to take concerted action and vigorously conduct joint activities for peace.
They will, at the same time, resolutely reject and oppose all sorts of attempts of those who pursue confrontation and war between fellow countrymen while serving the outsiders.
The resolution stressed that the women in the north and the south will hold fast to the historic June 15 joint declaration that ushered in a new era of independent reunification and dynamically advance along the road to bring earlier the reunification of the country by the concerted efforts of the Koreans while rejecting foreign domination and interference.
