A message to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.
The participants of the film shows watched Korean film "The Great Life in 1994."
More Sanatoria and Rest Homes Appear in DPRK
Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- More modern sanatoria and rest homes were built in scenic places of the DPRK in recent years.
The Hamju County Farmers Rest Home made its appearance at the foot of the mountain near the Kumjingang Hungbong Youth Power Station. It has three buildings for holiday-makers, a building for providing various services, a dinning hall, etc.
A rest home for scientists sprang up in the Waudo Recreation Ground in South Phyongan Province which received the first group of holiday-makers last year.
Many counties including Pongsan, Jaeryong, Suan and Sinphyong built sanatoria and rest homes in picturesque places for working people.
A lot of the existing rest homes have been renovated.
More spas have been opened to holiday-makers at the Sokwangsa Rest Home this year in the wake of the renovation of the "Haebang House" and other buildings.
The projects to rebuild several buildings for holiday-makers, a park and a spa and a dinning hall and the construction of a hall for cultural entertainment and a green house based on solar heat are making brisk headway at the Onpho Rest Home.
The Pyongyang Silk Mill and the Kum Song Tractor Plant and other units are successfully operating their sanatoria.
Rodong Sinmun on Japan's False "2007 White Paper on Defence"
Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The Abe team some time ago released the "2007 White Paper on Defence" in which it kicked up dust over a "missile threat," branding the DPRK as "the very one disturbing the regional security," and it cried for establishing a missile defense system (MD) to cope with the "arms buildup" of surrounding countries while expanding the international role of the "Self-Defense Forces."
Terming the "white paper" a document for staging a comeback to Korea and a scenario for overseas aggression, a Rodong Sinmun analyst Tuesday says:
The invective of the Japanese reactionaries in the "white paper" that the DPRK is "the very one disturbing the regional security" is a nonsensical vituperation of those obsessed with militarist ambition.
The Abe team put in the "white paper" the fiction of "threat" from someone. This reveals the wicked attempts to justify the revival of militarism and overseas aggression.
The DPRK cannot but take a serious view of Japan's scheme to hasten in real earnest the establishment of MD which is revealed in the "white paper."
The establishment of MD sought by Japan is a link in the whole chain of its premeditated scheme to grab military supremacy in Northeast Asia.
Here it is necessary to disclose the background of the hectic push of the Japanese reactionaries to hold the position of a world political power.
Lurking behind their talking about "assertive diplomacy" is their ambitious ruse to lay a military foundation for the position of a world political power and the expansion of international influence. In other words, Japan is driving to obtain permanent membership of the UN Security Council, openly poke its nose into international issues and exercise its influence in a bid to create legitimate conditions for a military power.
The "2007 White Paper on Defence" makes it plain that the Abe team is whetting the sword for overseas aggression to realize at any cost the old dream of "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere" which their militarist predecessors could not achieve.
S. Korean Political Party Calls for Concluding Peace Agreement
Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The committee for independent reunification of the Democratic Labor Party of south Korea reportedly called a press conference in Seoul on July 11 at which it declared the all-people movement for urging the conclusion of a peace agreement.
The speakers at the press conference held that peace can never be ensured on this land as long as the nation remains divided and the outside forces are present in south Korea.
Noting that the "peace" much-touted by the Grand National Party of south Korea precisely means "peace aimed at the permanent division" with the help of the U.S., they declared that they would conduct a vigorous all-people campaign for urging the conclusion of the peace agreement across south Korea.
A press release read out at the conference clarified that they would conduct the campaign in different parts of south Korea till September 8.
U.S. Urged to Drop Its Cold War-Minded Way of Thinking
Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- Mankind can never be free from the constant nuclear threat as long as the U.S. maintains its Cold War-minded way of thinking and persists in its high-handed and arbitrary practices in the field of nuclear activity. Minju Joson today observes this in a signed commentary.
The U.S. is still pursuing the policy for keeping huge nuclear forces and modernizing them, as exemplified by the present U.S. administration's program for the "Reliable Replacement Warhead" (RRW), the commentary notes, and goes on:
The U.S. cites the life of the existing nuclear forces and their low technical efficiency as a main reason for developing the RRW. This is, however, nothing but a deceptive artifice to cover up its black-hearted intention. The U.S. pretext to modernize nuclear weapons is too clumsy to convince people, taking into consideration the fact that the existing U.S. nuclear forces are confirmed to last more than a hundred years.
The U.S. loud-mouthed development of the RRW and the like are aimed at ensuring decisive upper hand in terms of strategic nuclear forces and thus prevailing over its major rivals and establishing an unchallenged domination over the world with nukes.
The world disturbance caused by the nuclear issue is attributable to the U.S. unreasonable policy of double standards.
Papers Denounce GNP's "Hearing" Drama
Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The Grand National Party of south Korea is said to be planning a "hearing" on July 19 to "verify and clarify" the corruption and scandals of Ri Myong Bak and Pak Kun Hye by itself.
This is a topic of Pyongyang media Tuesday, which ridicule this "hearing" as a big political fraud to realize the ambition to grab power by going ahead as planned with the "election" procedures while properly erasing so many crimes and stains of its candidates under the cloak of "verification and clarification."
Noting that more than 100 cases of corruption and scandals related to Ri Myong Bak and Pak Kun Hye have been reported to the so-called "verification committee" of the GNP, the Rodong Sinmun analyst notes: What the GNP seeks in staging the "hearing" is to cover up these large bundles of garbage by staging the meticulously designed "tricky drama".
The south Korean people's eyes flashing fire when staring at the GNP candidates are consequent upon the affairs of its candidates themselves, but the main point is the disillusion and resentment of the south Korean people at the past crimes of the GNP, notes the paper, and continues:
There is nobody who would vote for the treacherous party, which has brought shocking sufferings to the people, running day in and day out in flunkeyism, dependence on foreign forces, anti-reunification fascism and inter-Korean confrontation for over half a century, again deceived by it.
The GNP can never cover its true colors as sycophantic and treacherous party, an anti-reunification party seeking confrontation and a corrupted party, even though they may hold such hoodwinking hearings a hundred times, nor can it turn back the popular sentiments toward progress, reform and independent reunification.
Minju Joson brands the GNP as a group of philistines and human scum who stoop to any infamy when it comes to power and wealth and urges the "verification committee" of the GNP to drop such thinly veiled childish play.
Preschool Curriculum Innovated in DPRK
Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- An innovated curriculum for the preschoolers has been introduced to all the kindergartens over the DPRK.
What is the main of the new preschool curriculum consists of the speaking (Korean language), counting, drawing, making, singing and dancing.
In an interview with KCNA, Kim Son Hui, the chief of Woesong Kindergarten in Central District, Pyongyang, said:
The primary attention has been paid to the study of the Korean language in the new curriculum.
Teachers teach three or four difficult words to children and let them tell about their life by using the words in a lesson. It varies from the former teaching method.
In the counting lesson, the children are told to count up to 50, 30 more than before. Those who can count 50 are taught to count up to 100-500. The kindergartens also teach the children how to consult calendar and watch.
The drawing and making lesson is helpful for developing the children's intelligence to the full.
The kindergarten children had to make or draw according to the textbook in the past. But now their imagination and observation abilities are cultivated through visual aids and videos.
Thanks to the new curriculum, their presentation ability and originality are developing remarkably.
Cornhusk Shoes Rise in Popularity
Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- The Korean Chilsong Trading Corporation is producing various kinds and forms of cornhusk shoes.
Its cornhusk shoes (for male and female) were highly appreciated by visitors at the 18th China Harbin Fair for Trade and Economic Cooperation and the 2nd DPRK Commodity Fair held in Dandong City, Liaoning Province of China.
They are made of cornhusk whose tensile strength is treated with biochemical technology. The shoes are good for health and longevity, which are made in consideration of the importance of foot in the human body and the influence of shoe on it.
The cornhusk is sterilized and the shoe sole is treated with natural medicinal powder to ensure hygienic conditions. The cornhusk shoes are not less than common synthetic leather shoes.
