Anniversary of Korean People's Victory in War Observed
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- The Songun Group comprising figures of different social standings in different countries and regions posted on the Internet homepage an article titled "Warm congratulations to the DPRK on the day of its victory in the Fatherland Liberation War" on July 27, the 54th anniversary of the victory of the Korean people in the war.
The homepage in the article said that the Korean War was a just anti-imperialist, anti-U.S. war to achieve national liberation and to win the class struggle and a war which defended socialism and global peace and propelled the world revolutionary movement.
The Korean War clearly proved the validity and vitality of the Juche-oriented view on the war that the victory and defeat in war depend on the ideological and moral advantages, not on weapons, the article said, adding that the might of the Songun idea was fully demonstrated through the war.
The article went on:
President Kim Il Sung wisely led the Fatherland Liberation War against the U.S. imperialists to brilliant victory, thus performing great exploits for the Korean revolution and the world revolutionary cause.
The director for political affairs and international relations of the Pan-African Movement in a statement released on July 26 on the same occasion noted that the DPRK's victory in the Korean War was a historic miracle and a world-startling event, adding that the Korean people under the leadership of Kim Jong Il would always emerge victorious.
Statement Issued on Korean People's Day of Victory in War
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- Cha Sang Bo, vice-chairman of the General Association of Koreans in China, issued a statement on July 27 on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.
Recalling that the Korean people could emerge victorious in the hard-fought war against the U.S. imperialists and their allied forces with young regular armed forces in the early period of building a new country entirely thanks to the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung, the statement said:
He shattered to smithereens the myth of the U.S. imperialists' "mightiness" for the first time in history and demonstrated the invincible might and dignity of heroic Korea and ushered in a new era of anti-imperialist, anti-U.S. struggle. These immortal exploits he performed by leading the war to victory are shining along with the history of the Korean nation.
These exploits have been successfully carried forward thanks to the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il, illustrious commander of Mt. Paektu possessed of extraordinary wisdom and far-sighted strategy.
As commanded by Kim Jong Il the Korean People's Army has grown to be an invincible revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu capable of annihilating any formidable enemy at one blow and developed into a driving force for reinforcing the socialist military power and mighty vanguard for achieving the prosperity of the country.
If the U.S. imperialists ignite a new war, far from drawing a bitter lesson from their defeat in the past Korean War, the Korean People's Army will fully demonstrate before the world the mettle of the powerful revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu which has grown under the care of the great Songun brilliant commander.
We will wage a more dynamic struggle to frustrate the imperialists' moves to invade the DPRK and turn out as one in the movement to drive the U.S. forces, a source of war, out of south Korea and achieve the reunification and prosperity of the country, the statement stressed.

Conclusion of Peace Agreement and Withdrawal of U.S. Forces Urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification of south Korea on July 27 made public a statement demanding the conclusion of a peace agreement and the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea, according to a media report.
The statement said that, for the establishment of a durable peace system on the Korean Peninsula, the United States, a responsible party, should come out actively to sign a peace agreement and withdraw its forces from south Korea and the unequal south Korea-U.S. "alliance" be repealed.
The U.S. forces' presence in south Korea has nothing to do with peace and reunification, being one designed to promote the U.S. interests on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia and it is nonsensical to sign a peace agreement without scrapping the aggressive south Korea-U.S "alliance" targeted against the north, the statement noted, adding:
The U.S. should retract its plan to mount a nuclear strike at the north and completely pull back its forces from the Korean Peninsula and areas around it, if the war danger is to be removed and peace be actually ensured in this land.
S. Korean Authorities' Moves for Confrontation between Fellow Countrymen under Fire
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- Thirty-two civic and public organizations of south Korea including the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration and the Democratic Labour Party reportedly called a joint press conference in Seoul on July 30 to denounce the authorities' moves for confrontation between fellow countrymen.
Referring to the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises projected in south Korea in August, the speakers at the press conference branded the south Korean military authorities planning to join the United States in the maneuvers for a war of aggression as a harasser of peaceful reunification going against the trend of the times.
They demanded the south Korean authorities immediately drop the plan for the joint military drill with the U.S.
A letter to civic and public organizations was read out at the press conference. The letter urged the authorities to abandon their outdated anti-north policy inciting confrontation between Koreans and implement the June 15 joint declaration from the stand of national cooperation.
Japan Urged to Apologize for Past Crimes
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- Members of the Council for the Solution of the Issue of the Volunteers Corps and victims to sexual slavery to the Imperial Japanese Army in south Korea reportedly called a joint press conference on July 31 and demanded apology and compensation of the Japanese authorities for the past crimes.
Recalling that a resolution calling for the Japanese government's official apology for the crimes related to sexual slavery was adopted at the session of the U.S. House of Representatives, the speakers at the press conference said the settlement of the past by Japan stands out as an issue of the international community.
They exposed the fact that the Japanese authorities had made desperate efforts to conceal their crimes while engaging themselves in a hectic lobbying to bar the resolution on the "comfort women" from passing the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Japanese authorities, looking straight into the trend of the times, should make official apology and compensation for the past crimes related to sexual slavery and stop at once the distortion of facts in the history textbook, revision of the "pacifist Constitution" and the moves to turn the country into a military giant, they urged.
They declared they would wage an active movement worldwide for a solution to the issue of "comfort women" forcibly recruited for the Imperial Japanese Army.
Drama "The Sea of Blood" Created in Flames of Anti-Japanese War
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung wrote in his reminiscences "With the Century" that through the literature and arts in the period of the anti-Japanese revolution we realized that an excellent poem, play or story could stir up thousands of hearts and that a revolutionary song could pierce the enemy's heart which was beyond the reach of a bayonet.
The President created many famous art works in his lifetime to hand them down to rising generations as national treasure.
Among them is the famous play "The Sea of Blood" which was created and performed during the anti-Japanese war.
The President's motive for creating the drama came mainly from the Song of "Punitive" Operation in Jiandao.
He learnt the song from his father in his childhood and cultivated his hatred for the Japanese imperialists. When he was staging an armed struggle later, he keenly witnessed that the Jiandao area was soaked in a sea of blood at the point of bayonets of the invaders.
What deeply moved him was the feature of the indomitable Korean people who courageously rose up in the resistance, without submitting to such miserable lot.
This all-out resistance even involved the women, who had been bound by three bonds and five moral rules and three principles of obedience preached by Confucianism, and their children, who used to grumble over their food on their mothers' laps.
As he provided support to them and sympathized with them, the images of a woman and her children, who followed in the footsteps of their fallen revolutionary husband and father formed and developed in his mind.
He wanted to produce a work dealing with the principal character of such a woman. He found time in hot battles to write single details and a few words of dialogue.
On a summer day in Juche 25 (1936) a premiere of the play "The Sea of Blood" was staged in Manjiang, a slash-and-burners' village, immediately below Mt. Paektu.
Audience grinded their teeth with indignation at the brutal Japanese imperialists, seeing the scenes of the play which were similar with what they had experienced.
Many young people of the village stepped onto the stage and ardently volunteered warmly to join the guerrilla army.
The President, seeing the excitement and ardor prevailing over Manjiang village, keenly realized once again what a great the influence of art was.
Everything gets discolored and withers with the passage of times. But the famous work "The Sea of Blood" still implants in the minds of the Korean people the truth that the revolution is the only way-out and the revolution should be carried to accomplishment.
Rodong Sinmun on Abe Regime's Crushing Defeat in Upper House Election
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- The Liberal Democratic Party of Japan suffered a smashing defeat in the election to the House of Councillors held a few days ago, losing its control on the upper house for the first time since its emergence in 1955. It is no more No.1 party in the house.
Commenting on this, a Rodong Sinmun analyst Friday says:
The Abe group itself is to blame for the defeat of the LDP in the election. Japanese voters turned their backs on the LDP because they felt disillusioned about the political incompetence of the Abe Cabinet and its corrupt policy and its policy poor in substance, though showy in appearance
The disgraceful defeat of the LDP is a deserved result of the Abe regime's political incompetence and anti-popular policy.
The nearly one year long course of the Abe Cabinet is marred by nasty records run through with Abe's incompetence and diplomacy bereft of principle and reckless militarist moves. No sooner had the Abe group taken office than it got frantic in realizing its militarist ambition.
The miserable defeat of the Abe group in the election is, in a way, a result of its hostile policy toward the DPRK. During its office it has pursued a hostile policy previously unknown toward the DPRK. Foaming at its mouth as a manifestation of its hostile feelings toward the DPRK, the group resorted to a madcap smear campaign and sanctions against it. And it has thrashed around in a desperate effort to destroy the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, the dignified overseas citizens' organization of the DPRK.
The Abe group, after taking office, brought forward again the already-settled abduction issue under the pretext of the "sentiments of the people" and made it "an industry of abduction," reaching the peak of hysteria to utilize it for the maintenance of its power and for the victory in the election.
The Abe group should clearly learn from the upper house election returns what consequences an unpopular, corrupt policy entails and what sorry lot awaits incompetent fellows acting rashly.
Plan of U.S. and S. Korean Authorities for War Maneuvers under Fire
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- The U.S. and south Korean authorities decided to stage "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises, large-scale war exercises targeted against the north, in south Korea from Aug. 20 to 31. This is an unpardonable provocation as they drive the situation on the Korean Peninsula into an extreme phase of showdown.
A spokesman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said this in a statement released on Thursday.
They are trying to cover up the aggressive and provocative nature of the projected war exercises with their hackneyed rhetoric that they would be "annual" and just a "command's drill," but that is nothing but sophism which can convince no one, the statement notes, an goes on:
The reality clearly shows that the U.S. and its allied forces are chiefly to blame for disturbing peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
The U.S. and south Korean authorities can never evade the responsibility for having strained the situation on the Korean Peninsula and deliberately thrown hurdles in the way of solving the nuclear issue and improving the inter-Korean relations in breach of their promises, swimming against the trend of the times.
It is the invariable will and stand of the DPRK to respond to good faith in kind and react to provocations with merciless retaliation.
The army and people in the DPRK will further bolster the war deterrent for self-defence to defend the sovereignty and dignity of the nation in order to cope with the reckless war moves of the U.S. and south Korean warlike forces.
The U.S. and south Korean authorities should face up to the trend of the times and cancel at once their anachronistic plan for reckless war gambles targeted against the north.
Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Marked
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- A Pyongyang meeting to mark the 10th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's work "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification" took place at the Central Workers' Hall on Friday.
Kim Jong Il published the work on August 4, Juche 86 (1997) to formulate the three principles of national reunification, the ten-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo which were put forward by President Kim Il Sung as the three charters for national reunification to be always maintained by the Korean nation for achieving the reunification of the country.
Also clarified in the work are the principled need for the north and the south to preserve the Juche character and national character in the struggle for reunification and independence of the country, maintain the principle of national independence, promote co-existence, co-prosperity and common interests irrespective of ideology, ism and social system and achieve unity on the basis of patriotism.
Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, said in his report made at the meeting that the work serves as an immortal library as it provided fundamental guidelines for faithfully carrying forward the cause of national reunification started and led by the President and achieving the national reunification, the long-cherished desire of the nation.
The publication of the work helped the fellow countrymen vigorously conduct the patriotic movement for reunification with a clear target and confidence, the reporter noted.
The reporter called upon all people to firmly uphold the three charters and the June 15 joint declaration, its embodiment, as a banner for national reunification and wage a vigorous struggle to implement them.
He urged the United States to make a fundamental switchover in its anachronistic hostile policy toward the DPRK and stop doing anything obstructive to the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea and the Japanese reactionaries to halt at once their campaigns against the DPRK and the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan.
The south Korean authorities should reject cooperation with outside forces and confidently take the road of national cooperation and promptly abolish all anti-reunification legal and institutional mechanisms including the "National Security Law".
Present at the meeting were leading officials of political parties, power organs, public organizations and educational institutions and working people in Pyongyang.
Japan Urged to Stop Suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly issued a statement on July 29 in which it denounced the Japanese reactionaries' suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).
The statement said that Japan has not yet redeemed its past crimes against the Korean nation but has become ever more undisguised in its unethical suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.
Accusing the Abe regime of instigating the Resolution and Collection Corporation to seize the Hall of the Headquarters of Chongryon, the statement said that this rampage of the Japanese reactionaries lashed the Koreans into great fury.
The statement called on the Koreans to pool efforts and intensify the anti-Japan actions to frustrate the Japanese reactionaries' reckless moves, urging the Japanese authorities to immediately stop the suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.
Kim Jong Il Inspects Command of KPA Unit
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected the command of KPA Unit 273.
He dropped in at the operation command room to learn about the unit's performance of duty and watched the exercise of the commanding staff in the military lecture room.
He set forth the tasks to be fulfilled by the unit to boost its combat capability in every way, expressing satisfaction over the fact that it has firmly armed its commanding officers with Juche-based war methods by putting the training on a regular basis to get them fully ready to successfully perform their combat duties under any circumstances.
He learned about how the politico-ideological work is conducted at the unit, making the rounds of the servicepersons' hall, library and other entertainment and educational facilities.
He praised the unit for having prepared all its servicepersons as staunch fighters equipped with a transparent revolutionary outlook by fully applying the way the Anti-Japanese Guerilla Army did the political work.
A fresh turn has taken place in the politico-ideological traits and fighting spirit of the servicepersons of the People's Army in the Songun era and its might has grown remarkably stronger, he noted, adding that no force on earth can match the strength of this invincible army.
He had a photo session with the servicepersons of the unit.
He was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su.
