DPRK Government Will Strive for Peace
Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun, who is leading a DPRK delegation to the ministerial meeting of the 14th ASEAN regional forum, said at the meeting that the DPRK government will continue to closely cooperate with the member states of the forum including ASEAN countries for the peace on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of the region in the idea of its external policy for independence, peace and friendship in the future, too. It is indispensable for the ASEAN regional forum to thoroughly keep the essential principles of respect of sovereignty, non-interference in other's internal affairs, peaceful co-existence and ban on the use of force in order to fulfill its mission as a unique forum for political dialogue in the region, Pak said, and continued:
One of the main instable factors present in Asia is none other than Japan.
Japan is duty-bound to redress its unprecedented past crimes by making due apology and compensation as it is a war criminal state which committed hideous crimes against humanity such as killing a great number of people and reducing hundreds of thousands of women into sexual slaves after invading Asia in the last century.
But the present Japanese authorities, not content with concealing and beautifying the past crimes, made no scruple of distorting the history, challenging the international community. This arouses resentment and vigilance against Japan among Asian countries which had undergone its invasion.
Especially, the frantic suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) rampant in every part of Japan is a grave provocation against the DPRK and an act of infringing upon its sovereignty, which no preceding Japanese government dared to do.
If Japan continues to be keen on its crackdown upon Chongryon, the DPRK can not but warn Japan that it would bring about a more serious political crisis than the financial sanctions.
The denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is the behests of President Kim Il Sung and it is the invariable stand of the DPRK government to settle the nuclear issue through dialogue and negotiation. The denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is, in essence, the issue directly connected with the end of the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK and removal of nuclear threat to it.
Recalling the adoption of the Feb. 13 agreement, Pak reaffirmed the DPRK government's firm will to honor its commitments under the agreement.
Lao Parliamentary Delegation Leaves
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The delegation of the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic led by Thongsing Thammavong, president of the National Assembly who is member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, left here for home today after winding up its 5-day visit to the DPRK.
While staying in the DPRK, the delegation visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace to pay homage to President Kim Il Sung, Mangyongdae, the Arch of Triumph, the Grand People's Study House and the Three-Revolution Exhibition, etc.
It also appreciated the grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang."

Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- A government economic delegation of the DPRK led by Minister of Foreign Trade Rim Kyong Man left here today to visit Iran and Syria. A delegation of the Workers' Party of Korea led by Cha Yong Myong, vice department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, also left here today to visit Laos, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Arriving here today was a delegation of the Secretariat of the International Institute of the Juche Idea led by its Secretary General Kenichi Ogami and a delegation of the Japanese Society for the Study of the Juche Idea led by Soko Shimabukuro, advisor of the Okinawa Socialist Masses' Party.
Settlement of Case of Detained Civilians Urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly made public a statement on August 1 in which it denounced the U.S. and the south Korean authorities for shunning the issue of saving the civilians detained in Afghanistan.
Recalling that some of them were killed, the statement held that this was caused by the south Korean authorities' dispatch of troops to Afghanistan pursuant to the U.S. policy of invasion of it.
To rescue them it is necessary for the authorities to decide to withdraw the troops at once and opt for scrapping the south Korea-U.S. "alliance", it stressed.
On the same day the Council of south Korean Youth Organizations and the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification separately called press conferences near the U.S. embassy in Seoul and urged the U.S. to come out for the settlement of the above-said case.
Letters of protest to the U.S. government were read out at the conferences in which they said that the U.S. is chiefly to blame for the case as it forced south Korea to dispatch troops under the signboard of "alliance."
At the end of the conferences the representatives of the organizations conveyed the letters of protest to the U.S. embassy.
Rodong Sinmun Calls for Bringing Earlier Korea's Reunification
Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- The three principles of national reunification, the ten-point programme for the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo clearly indicate the way of the Korean nation for independent reunification. The three principles constitute the three charters for national reunification as they systematized and dealt with the fundamental principles and ways of national reunification in an integral way on the basis of the great Juche idea and the precious experience gained by President Kim Il Sung in the course of the struggle for national reunification, says Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a signed article.
The three charters for national reunification are consistent with the spirit of national independence the core of which is the sovereignty and dignity of the nation and embody the noble patriotic spirit to achieve the reunification of the country in a peaceful way through national reconciliation and unity, the article notes, and goes on:
The three principles of national reunification which the north and the south affirmed and solemnly declared at home and abroad in the July 4 joint statement indicate the fundamental stand and ways to be maintained by the Korean nation in the settlement of the reunification question. The ten-point programme for the great unity of the whole nation which expounds the aim of great national unity and its ideological foundation and the principles and ways of unity help further increase the driving force for national reunification and immensely enhance its role. The proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo gives a clear exposition of the full appearance of a reunified state and the ways for its materialization.
The proposals for national reunification put forward by the President have powerfully encouraged all the fellow countrymen to the nationwide struggle for independent reunification and glorified annals of the reunification movement with victory of pro-reunification patriotic forces.
His line and policies for national reunification are the most precious legacies left by him for the Korean nation and they serve as a reliable boon for the accomplishment of the cause of independent reunification.

Vanguard for Reunification Active in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- The "2007 Vanguard for Peace and Reunification of the Korean Peninsula" reportedly got into action in south Korea.
A "ceremony of forming the vanguard for reunification and declaring its struggle for August" took place in Seoul on August 1 under the sponsorship of the preparatory committee for the Solidarity for Progress of south Korea.
A declaration read out at the ceremony noted that a turning phase for national reunification has been brought about thanks to the nation-wide struggle of all the fellow countrymen, and called upon the people of different social standings to conduct an unflinching struggle aimed at withdrawing the U.S. troops, the root cause of war, from south Korea and building durable peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula.
The central and regional vanguard consisted of representatives of organizations of people of different social standings including workers, peasants and youth and students would travel several regions to conduct more active struggle for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops and the movement for national reunification, the declaration said.

DPRK Women's Football Team Beats Rival of Taipei of China
Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- The DPRK women's football team beat the rival of Taipei of China 6:0 in the Asian Regional qualifier of Group B for the 29th Olympics held in Taipei of China on August 4.
The DPRK team will play the last qualifier for the Olympics with the rival of Hong Kong of China in Pyongyang on August 12.
Letter of Solidarity to Pyongyang Mission of AINDF
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Chairman of the Switzerland-Korea Committee Martin Lotscher sent a solidarity letter to the Pyongyang Mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front on July 28 on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.
He in his letter wrote that the Korean people became the first in history to shatter to smithereens the myth of the U.S. imperialists' "mightiness" under the outstanding leadership of President Kim Il Sung.
The letter noted that the great Juche idea and the Songun idea based on it served as an efficient treasured sword that enabled a sovereign country to protect the freedom from the imperialist aggression and win victory.

DPRK's Day of Victory in War Observed in Different Countries
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Lectures were given in Egypt and Tanzania and a photo exhibition was held in Uganda from July 21 to 26 on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.
Displayed in the venue of the photo exhibition were photos showing the Songun revolutionary leadership feats of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and photos introducing the invincible might of the Korean People's Army.
Secretary General of the Egypt-Korea Friendship Association Yehia Zakaria Khairullah in his lecture stressed that the Korean people could defeat the U.S. imperialists who boasted of being the "strongest" in the world and win great victory entirely thanks to the outstanding commanding art of President Kim Il Sung and the firm unity of the whole army and all people around the great leader.

Sports Contest for Jonsung Cup Held
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) --A sports contest for the Jonsung Cup was held in Pyongyang and Wonsan on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.
Its participants competed in 8 events including swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, rowing, canoeing and cycling.
The sports group of the Ministry of Fisheries proved successful in swimming, diving and synchronized swimming, that of the Ministry of Land and Marine Transport in rowing and canoeing and that of the Ministry of Light Industry in cycling.
International Diploma and Certificate Conferred upon Korean Artist
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The 10th Beijing international art exhibition held in China from July 12 to 16 awarded the diploma "Ten Most Famous Artists," top prize of the exhibition, and certificate to Labour Hero and Merited Artist Kim Tong Hwan, head of the Korean Painting Creative Group of the Mansudae Art Studio.
He presented to the exhibition several Korean paintings such as "Girls Full of Pride" and "On the Way to Work Site."
The exhibition brought together various art organizations and artists from over 20 countries and regions.
Military Authorities' Sycophantic Submission under Fire in South Korea
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations of south Korea including the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification reportedly called a joint press conference in Seoul on July 30 to denounce the military authorities for their sycophantic submission.
At the conference speeches were made to be followed by the reading out of a letter of protest to the minister of "National Defense."
Accusing the south Korean military authorities of holding on the same day negotiations with the U.S. over the issue of disposing of reserve war materiel of the U.S. forces in south Korea, the letter said:
The military authorities are claiming that the majority of the war materiel is still usable and the quantity of the materiel to be disposed of is no more than 10 percent. This means the negotiations are conducted on the premise that south Korea would take over the whole quantity of the materiel to be scrapped by the U.S.
The letter urged the military authorities to send back to the U.S. all the reserve war materiel as it would only cause serious environmental pollution and bring damage to the residents of the region.
At the end of the conference representatives of the civic and public organizations conveyed the letter to the "Ministry of National Defense."
Cancellation of Plan for War Maneuvers Urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The Press Headquarters of the South Side Committee of the Solidarity for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration reportedly made public a statement on July 30 at which it demanded the cancellation of the plan for the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises.
The statement accused the U.S. and the south Korean bellicose forces of planning to stage the above-said exercises involving huge armed forces using south Korea as an operational theatre from August 20 to 31.
It is quite impudent for the military authorities to join the U.S. in the war maneuvers to meet its interests only, instead of paying attention to the grave situation in Afghanistan where south Korean civilians are meeting deaths after being kidnapped, it said, adding:
We cannot repress our resentment at the U.S. and the south Korean military authorities planning to stage war exercises targeted against the north despite the fact that efforts for ensuring peace on the Korean Peninsula are more urgently required than ever before.
The statement demanded the U.S. and the south Korean warlike forces drop at once the above-mentioned plan.
Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Observed
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Papers today dedicate editorials to the tenth anniversary of Kim Jong Il's famous work "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification."
Elaborately clarified in the work are the principles arising in defending the idea of national reunification put forward by President Kim Il Sung and his leadership feats and implementing his Juche-based line and policies for national reunification including the issue of settling the question of the country's reunification on the principle of national independence, the issue of building a strong driving force for national reunification through great national unity, the issue of achieving the reunification in a peaceful way, not using force of arms and the issue of realizing the reunification by federal formula, and the ways to do so.

New Ice Physical Acrobatics Created

Immortal Feats Performed in Efforts to Implement President's Instruction for National Reunification
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il published the famous work "Let Us Carry out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification" on August 4, Juche 86 (1997).
On this occasion, the Korean people look back with warm hearts upon the feats performed by the leader who has made imperishable patriotic true records for reunification, regarding the implementation of the instruction of President Kim Il Sung for national reunification as the supreme task.

Kim Jong Il Gives On-Site Guidance to Newly Built Hospital
Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-site guidance to the newly built North Hamgyong Provincial People's Hospital.
The hospital opened some days ago is a comprehensive medical service center covering more than 50,000 square meters as it has all equipment for medical treatment and service facilities.
Kim Jong Il looked round the interior and exterior of the hospital for a long time to learn in detail about its internal structure and its construction. He praised the province for having built such a big hospital by its own efforts.
There should be the best sanitary environment and convenience for the hospital as it is the most important institution related to the precious lives and health of the people but some sections do not meet these requirements, he noted.
Underscoring the need for the hospital to abide by the principle of isolating itself from outside and enforcing the section segregation inside it, he said that to this end, it is necessary to disallow outsiders' disorderly access to the hospital and strictly forbid people except the staff to enter the sections requiring germ-free condition including test rooms inside the hospital.
He gave instructions even on settling detailed problems arising in ensuring scientific accuracy in medical treatment and creating good environment around the hospital.
Noting that the mistake committed in the construction of the hospital was attributable to the lack of responsibility for job and serve-the-people spirit on the part of those who designed the hospital without taking the function and nature of the construction object into consideration and those who supervised it, he urged all the officials to think a lot of their work and steadily improve their technical and professional qualifications to be genuine servants for the people.

Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to the Ranam Coal Mining Machine Complex.

Ademas refleja las demandas de principios de mantener el caracter Juche y la nacionalidad y el principio de independencia nacional en la lucha por la reunificacion y la independencia de la patria, promover la coexistencia, la coprosperidad y los intereses comunes entre el Norte y el Sur de Corea por encima de las diferencias de ideologias, ideales y regimenes, y lograr la unidad a base del amor a la patria y la nacion.
Al rendir un informe de la ocasion, el secretario del Comite Central del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Kim Jung Rin, senalo que la obra maestra del Dirigente resulta un libro eternamente valioso que da una guia fundamental para continuar sin falta la causa de reunificacion de la patria, iniciada y guiada por el Presidente, la cual devino siempre el deseo de la nacion coreana.
Gracias a la publicacion de esta obra, toda la nacion coreana pudo desarrollar audazmente el movimiento patriotico por la reunificacion con su clara meta de lucha y conviccion, dijo el orador y resalto la necesidad de desplegar una lucha energica tomando las Tres Cartas para la Reunificacion de la Patria, formuladas por el Dirigente, y la Declaracion Conjunta Norte-Sur del 15 de Junio, que las materializa, como la bandera de reunificacion de la patria.
Estados Unidos debe cambiar radicalmente su anacronica politica hostil a Corea y dejar de obstaculizar la reunificacion independiente y pacifica de Corea. Por su parte, los reaccionarios japoneses deben poner de inmediato fin a su campana anti-RPDC y anti-Chongryon (Asociacion General de Coreanos Residentes en Japon), exigio el orador.
Y las autoridades surcoreanas deben rechazar la cooperacion con las fuerzas extranjeras, tomar con firmeza el camino de cooperacion nacional y abolir la "ley de seguridad" y otros aparatos legales e institucionales contra la reunificacion, apunto el informante.
En el conclave participaron los funcionarios directivos de organismos del partido y el Poder, entidades sociales e instituciones docentes asi como trabajadores capitalinos.
