Projected U.S.-S. Korea War Maneuvers under Fire
Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The United Confederation of Koreans in Russia made public a statement on August 4 in denunciation of the large-scale "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises to be staged by the U.S. and the south Korean authorities.
Recalling that they officially announced some days ago that they would stage the above-said exercises, the large-scale war maneuvers targeted against the north, in south Korea from August 20 to 31, the statement said:
The U.S. and south Korean warlike forces plan to stage saber-rattling in south Korea at a time when the points agreed upon at the six-party talks for the denuclearization and stability of the Korean Peninsula are now being implemented. This is, in fact, a signal of confrontation and an intolerable provocative act to bar the inter-Korean relations from improving.
The U.S. and the south Korean authorities should face up to the trend of the times and cancel at once their plan for the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises.
We will wage a more dynamic struggle to decisively frustrate the anti-DPRK moves of the U.S. bellicose elements and their followers to bring dark clouds of a nuclear war to hang over the Korean Peninsula and defend peace from war.
All Koreans Called upon to Implement June 15 Joint Declaration
Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- It is the unanimous desire and will of all Koreans to keep firm hold on the June 15 joint declaration as a milestone of national reunification and implement it to the letter and thus surely achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.
Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed article.
It goes on:
Since the publication of the June 15 joint declaration various political parties and organizations and compatriots from all walks of life in the north and the south and overseas have held contacts and dialogues each other, opening up a new chapter of reconciliation and unity. This is a clear proof that the movement of the Koreans for national reunification is steadily developing into a patriotic movement involving all Koreans in name and reality.
National independence is the main spirit and core of the June 15 joint declaration.
The June 15 joint declaration represents the unanimous will of the Korean nation to achieve the national reunification by its concerted efforts while resolutely rejecting flunkeyism and dependence on outside forces.
It implanted the idea of "By our nation itself" into the minds of the Koreans.
This idea serves as ideological strength to augment the might of the driving force in the movement for national reunification in every way.
The reality today when the desire of the compatriots for reunification is growing stronger than ever before and the atmosphere of national reconciliation and unity is mounting as the days go by goes to prove that it is possible to win every victory only when all Koreans struggle with one mind and purpose in the idea of "By our nation itself".
Whoever is concerned for the destiny of the country and the nation and desirous of patriotism and reunification should respect the idea and main spirit of the June 15 joint declaration and sincerely implement it and depend on the strength of the nation, not relying on foreign forces, and pursue national cooperation, not cooperation with outsiders.
For Koreans an attitude towards the June 15 joint declaration is a touchstone distinguishing patriotism from treachery and reunification from division.

The press release read out at the press conference declared that the organizations would expand in scope the struggle denouncing the conservative media and the movement to force the U.S. to come out for the solution of the problem of the civilian hostages.

The visitors are recollecting the immortal revolutionary exploits made by President Kim Il Sung and the revolutionary spirits displayed by the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters, looking round with deep attention the historical materials in the period of the general offensive for national liberation.
The President issued an order to the units of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) to mount an all-out offensive for the liberation of the country on August 9, Juche 34 (1945), a lecturer of the museum Kim Kyong Hui said, and continued:
The KPRA units in the secret camp on Mt. Kanpaek, the offensive base, expanded their offensive achievements as the operation plan envisaged while increasing their ranks.
Those who were mustered in the area along the River Tuman broke through the border fortresses of the enemy all at once and liberated the areas of Kyongwon and Kyonghung. They expanded battle successes towards Unggi (at that time) to liberate vast area of the homeland.
Some advance units of the landing force landed at Unggi in close joint operation with ground force units to advance towards Chongjin.
The small groups and political underground workers of the KPRA who had been active in the homeland positively organized and roused the people's armed units, armed uprising organizations and broad people to armed riot.
In those days the President conducted indefatigable activities to command the historic operation for national liberation.
Examining the reports on the battle results from the landing force units advancing along the east coast, the ground force units which entered the operation theatres in the homeland near the Amnok and Tuman Rivers and all other front units, he took new measures in accordance with the ever-changing situation.
He also directed in time the people's anti-Japanese uprisings organized by local revolutionary organizations to support the advance of the KPRA.
The Japanese imperialists unconditionally surrendered within a week after the general offensive started under the operational plan of the President.
