Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Sub-Unit
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected a sub-unit of KPA Unit 156.
He learned about its performance of duty and watched its servicepersons' training in a military lecture room.
He was pleased to learn that the sub-unit has trained all commanding officers and men as a-match-for-a hundred stalwart fighters who are well versed in combat and technical equipment and possessed of high commanding and combat capability by organizing intensive training at modern training room. He highly praised them for prizing and handling their weapons of the revolution like apples of their eyes and successfully performing their duties.
Watching training equipment in use, he appreciated the efforts made by Jo Hi Jin, noncommissioned officer in extra service, to manufacture them.
Then he took deep care of the soldiers' service and living, going round an education room, bedroom, mess hall, kitchen, wash-cum-bath house, non-staple food store and other places.
No detail escaped him ranging from humidity in bedroom in this rainy season to the processing of non-staple food and water quality at a wash-cum-bath house to show deep loving care for them.
It is very gratifying that it has assiduously managed its economic life and provided its servicepersons with rich diet through successful sideline farming, in particular, he noted, stressing the need for all commanding officers to pay deep attention to the supply service at all times, keenly aware of its importance.
He had a photo session with the servicepersons of the sub-unit.
Kim Jong Il Gives On-Site Guidance to Industrial Establishments
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-site guidance to the February 8 Vinalon Complex and the Ryongsong Machine Complex.
The first leg of his visit was the February 8 Vinalon Complex.
After going round the room devoted to the history of the complex, he made the rounds of the Vinyl Chloride Shop, the Soda Shop and other places to learn about the technological updating and production there.
Going round the updated production processes, he praised the officials, workers and technicians of the complex for having contrived and developed new type electrolyzer, high capacity electrolytic rectifier, graphite cooler and many other equipment and machines by their own efforts and with their technology and energetically carried out the reconstruction project of the complex, thereby mass-producing chemical products while economizing raw and other materials and establishing cultured practice in production.
Highly appreciating the fact that the workers of the complex have made a breakthrough towards increased production in the spirit of self-reliance, holding aloft the slogan of faith "When the Party is determined we can do anything," he said that the spirit of self-reliance bequeathed to them by President Kim Il Sung pulling through all sorts of trials serves as motive force that helped build powerful independent national economy and an invariable work style in the socialist economic construction.
He set forth tasks to be fulfilled by the complex, noting that the position and role of the complex are very important as it produces a variety of basic chemical products directly related to the people's living.
The next leg of his visit was the Ryongsong Machine Complex.
He was briefed on how the complex has implemented the on-the-spot instructions given by the President in front of the monument to his on-the-spot guidance.
He highly appreciated the loyalty to the President displayed by the workers of the complex, pleased to learn that they have successfully carried out the on-the-spot instructions given by him while visiting the complex dozens of times.
Examining newly produced compressors in the Compressor Shop, he learned about their structure, performance and principle of their operation and praised the workers of Ryongsong for making an uninterrupted leaping advance.
The workers of Ryongsong with the glorious tradition of unconditionally carrying through any decision and instruction of the Party are producing quality machines in succession after modernizing the complex as required by the new century, he noted, adding that this is the revolutionary mettle of the heroic Korean working class who has glorified the sacred annals of the revolution with exploits performed in the struggle.
He stressed that the DPRK's cause of building a great prosperous powerful nation is sure to be accomplished with success as a lot of powerful machine plants such as the Ryongsong Machine Complex are providing a strong guarantee for the socialist economic construction, displaying their might.
Then he acquainted himself with the on-going construction of the cast iron shop and underscored the need to build it as a modern one that will win even the admiration of posterity.

Greetings to Chadian President
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, sent a message of greetings to Idriss Deby, Chadian President, on Aug. 8 on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the independence of Chad.
Reiterating the will of the DPRK to expand and boost the friendly and cooperative relations with Chad in the idea of independence, peace and friendship, the message wished the Chadian president and people success in their efforts to defend the peace and stability of the country and achieve economic development.
KPA Panmunjom Mission Issues Statement
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- Senior colonel-level talks between the militaries of the DPRK and the U.S. were held at Panmunjom on Friday at the request of the DPRK side.
At the talks the Korean People's Army side strongly protested and denounced the U.S. forces side for officially announcing its plan to stage "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises in south Korea from August 20 and notified it of the statement of the KPA Panmunjom Mission clarifying the stand of the army of the DPRK to strongly react to it.
The statement says:
Despite a warning issued by the DPRK side through a statement of the chief of the KPA Panmunjom Mission on July 13 the U.S. military is set to stage the above-said military exercises to gratify its military ambition.
This clearly indicates that the U.S. is not concerned for peace and security on the Korean Peninsula at all and does not want the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula nor detente and lasting peace on it.
At a time when there prevails an urgent situation where huge armed forces of the other belligerent party may come in attack on the DPRK, pursuant to the plan for war exercises of the U.S. military, the KPA responsible for the security of the country cannot remain a passive onlooker to it, doing nothing.
The KPA will actively put into practice its earlier statement that it will do all it can to round off the powerful striking means to cope with the large-scale war maneuvers to be staged against the DPRK.
The U.S. will be held wholly responsible for the catastrophic impact the above-said saber rattling will have on the implementation of the Fe.13 agreement and the six-party talks.
It is our hope that south Korea will behave with discretion, bearing in mind that should it drive its soldiers as bullet shields for the U.S. forces as it did during the last Korean war, yielding to the U.S. demand, Koreans will suffer again the shameful disaster of a fratricidal war.
Xiaohaerbaling Meeting of Strategic Significance for National Liberation
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- August 15 is the day of the Korean people's national liberation. On this occasion, they are recollecting with deep emotion the historic Xiaohaerbaling meeting (August 1940) that decided to change the strategic line at the new turning period of the Korean revolution, along with the Mingyuegou meeting (December 1931) and the Nanhutou meeting (February 1936) that also set forth important strategic lines on the anti-Japanese armed struggle.
The meeting at Xiaohaerbaling was a historic conference that adopted a new strategic policy of hastening the ultimate victory of the anti-Japanese revolution and making full preparations to take the initiative to greet momentous occasion of national liberation.
The Japanese imperialists, who were engaged in the aggression of the continent at that time, intensified the "punitive" operations against the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) in an unprecedented way in an attempt to ensure "security of the home front".
President Kim Il Sung convened a meeting of military and political cadres at Xiaohaerbaling, Dunhua County on August 10 and 11, Juche 29 (1940) to define a new strategic stage in the light of the obtaining situation.
The President delivered a speech titled "On Preparing for the Great Event of National Liberation" at the meeting.
He advanced it as a new strategic task to preserve and accumulate the force of the KPRA, the backbone of the Korean revolution, and train its officers and men to be able political and military cadres in the preparation for greeting actively the great event of national liberation.
In order to carry out this task with success, he put forward a new fighting policy on switching over from large-unit operations to small-unit actions.

Stop to War Moves and Withdrawal of Dispatched Troops Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- The People's Action against Troop Dispatch of south Korea reportedly called a press conference in Seoul on August 6 in demand of a stop to the moves for a war of aggression and the withdrawal of the dispatched troops.
Speakers at the press conference accused the U.S. of contemplating intensified fresh military operations in spite of the south Korean civilian hostage crisis in Afghanistan. They expressed resentment at the behavior of the U.S., holding that this precisely means allowing the south Korean hostages to be killed.
They denounced the "government" authorities for taking no measures for the release of the hostages despite such serious situation.
Noting that the U.S. and south Korean authorities are aggravating the situation, talking about "creative diplomacy" and the like, they declared all the people are opposing the U.S. moves for the war of aggression and demanding the withdrawal of the dispatched troops.
Reception at Russian Embassy
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Valery Sukhinin hosted a reception at the embassy on Thursday on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of the visit of Kim Jong Il to the Russian Federation and the 5th anniversary of his visit to its Far Eastern region.
Present there on invitation were Kim Yong Chun, vice-chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, Pak Ui Chun, foreign minister, Ju Kyu Chang and Jang Song Thaek, first vice department directors of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Jon Hui Jong, director of the foreign affairs department of the NDC, and Kung Sok Ung, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs.
Valery Sukhinin said in his speech at the reception that the two visits of Chairman of the DPRK NDC Kim Jong Il to the Russian Federation were historic events in the relations between Russia and the DPRK.
Noting that the relations between the two countries today are good neighborly, equal and friendly, the ambassador said the Russian Federation would closely cooperate with the DPRK for the bilateral relations and peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region in the future, too.
Hailing the agreement on a Pyongyang summit of the top leaders of the north and the south, he expressed the belief that it would mark an important landmark in the inter-Korean relations.
Kim Yong Chun, speaking next, said the visits of Kim Jong Il to the Russian Federation and its Far Eastern region in the new century were long journeys of devotion which brought a dramatic turn in the development of the DPRK-Russia relations and the accomplishment of the cause of global independence.
He expressed the hope that the two countries would as ever deepen cooperation and exchange in various fields including politics, economy and culture and strengthen mutual cooperation and support in the international stages in conformity with the spirit of the joint declarations agreed upon between them.
Defence of Peace, Vital Task of Korean Nation
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- Defending peace on the Korean Peninsula is a vital task for the peace and prosperity of the entire Korean nation and the reunification of the country, declares Rodong Sinmun in a signed article Friday.

Preventing a war and defending peace arise as vital tasks of all Koreans with greater urgency today when the danger of a new war is growing daily on the Korean Peninsula due to the outside forces' moves to provoke a war against the DPRK which have reached a dangerous phase.
The U.S. hardliners are these days massively reinforcing aggression forces including means of nuclear strikes in and around south Korea, bringing forward the robber-like demand that the DPRK should scrap its "nuclear program" first, and they are pushing ahead with the restructuring of the U.S. combat force system in south Korea to cope with "a contingency" on the Korean Peninsula, thereby aggravating the situation.
Some time ago, the U.S. announced that it would stage again in south Korea the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercise, a large-scale war game against the DPRK.
The U.S. is creating the danger of war while escalating military confrontation and tensions on the peninsula against the desire of the Koreans and the trend of the times. This situation urges the Koreans to hold as high as ever the banner of defense of peace. The Korean nation would suffer the nuclear holocaust imposed by the outside forces and its existence itself would be put in a danger, should it fail to frustrate the moves of the outsiders and their followers for a war of aggression.
To thwart aggression and war moves and defend peace is a nationwide fighting task vital to the life and security of the Korean nation which experienced war disasters in the last century and has lived under a constant danger of war for over half a century and is facing a danger of war still today.
It is impossible to successfully promote inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation and the development of the movement for independent reunification without defending peace.
Congratulatory Letter to Kim Jong Il
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il was presented with a congratulatory letter by the economic and commercial councilors' corps here on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of Korea's liberation.

National Exhibition of Scientific and Technical Achievements in Public Health Held
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- The 10th National Exhibition of Scientific and Technical Achievements in the Public Health had been held at the Three Revolution Exhibition in Pyongyang from August one.
On display there were more than 3,000 pieces of valuable inventions of some 1,000 kinds. Among them were nearly 300 therapies, over 300 kinds of medicines and medical apparatuses developed by officials and technicians in the field of public health across the country.

U.S. Chiefly to Blame for S. Korean Hostage Crisis in Afghanistan
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the National Reconciliation Council issued a statement Friday in connection with the fact that some of the south Korean civilians held in hostage by Taliban armed forces in Afghanistan are now meeting tragic deaths.
Holding the U.S. entirely accountable for the occurrence of the crisis, the statement continued:
But for the U.S. act of driving south Korea into the war of aggression against Afghanistan which it launched under the pretext of a "war on terrorism" such tragic incident would not have happened.
Such being a hard fact, the U.S. has not yet taken any positive approach to the issue, keen on meeting its own interests.
The National Reconciliation Council vehemently denounces the U.S. brigandish aggression of Afghanistan and strongly urges the U.S. to take prompt measures to relieve the innocent south Korean civilians of the pain and misfortune caused by it.
It is quite natural that the family members of the victims and civic and public organizations at all levels as well as politicaldom and media are waging various forms of anti-U.S. struggle, charging that the Bush administration is chiefly to blame for the crisis.
The Grand National Party of south Korea, however, is now much afraid that the hostage taking and the killing of hostages may spark off an anti-American struggle and adversely affect its campaign to come to power, describing this public claim as "an irresponsible and mean act".

Intensified Movement for Reunification Called for in Japan
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- A general meeting of the Headquarters of Koreans in Japan of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) was held in Tokyo on Aug. 1.
The general meeting took up issues of encouraging Pomminryon to creditably perform its role as standard-bearer in the movement for national reunification. It discussed the matters of extending positive support to the struggle of the forces of the progressive movement in south Korea including members of the south Headquarters of Pomminryon.

Declaracion de la representacion del EPC en Phanmunjom
Pyongyang, 10 de agosto (ATCC) -- Por la iniciativa de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, tuvieron lugar este viernes en Phanmunjom las conversaciones a nivel de primer coronel entre ella y Estados Unidos.
En la ocasion, la parte de la RPDC formulo una seria protesta y denuncia a la parte norteamericana por el anuncio oficial del plan de ejercicio militar conjunto "Ulji Focus Lens" a desarrollarse en suelo surcoreano a partir del 20 del mes en curso.
Igualmente, le comunico una declaracion de la representacion del Ejercito Popular de Corea en Phanmunjom, que expone la posicion del EPC de tomar una fuerte reaccion a esa maniobra EE.UU.-Sur de Corea.
Pese a la advertencia emitida el 13 de julio ultimo a traves de la declaracion del representante del EPC en Phanmunjom, el circulo militar de EE.UU. se propone a desplegar el "Ulji Focus Lens" partiendo de su ambicion militar, adelanta el texto y prosigue.
Tal tentativa comprueba que EE.UU. no esta interesado en nada por preservar la paz y la seguridad de la Peninsula Coreana ni desea la desnuclearizacion efectiva, el alivio de tension y la paz duradera de esta area.
Bajo esas circunstancias tirantes, en que las colosales fuerzas armadas de una contraparte beligerante, que seran movilizadas segun el plan de ejercicio belico de la cupula militar estadounidense, pueden lanzarse sobre nuestro pais, el EPC, que se responsabiliza por la seguridad del pais, no puede aguardar el tiempo oportuno con brazos cruzados sin tomar ninguna contramedida.
Ya que se desplegara ese macro-ejercicio belico contra la RPDC, el EPC ejecutara activamente en acciones concretas su compromiso de realizar todos los esfuerzos por perfeccionar los potentes medios ofensivos para hacer frente a ello.
Si esto produce consecuencias catastroficas en la implementacion del acuerdo del 13 de febrero y la marcha de las conversaciones a 6 bandas, EE.UU. debera responsabilizarse totalmente de ellas.
Ademas, el EPC desea que el Sur de Corea se porte con prudencia al tener presente que si rendido por la demanda coercitiva de EE.UU. se ofrece como carne de canon de las tropas norteamericanas al igual que en la pasada guerra coreana, la nacion coreana volvera a sufrir esa ignominiosa tragedia en que se pelean los compatriotas derramando sangre.
Banquete por aniversario de visita de Kim Jong Il a Rusia
Pyongyang, 10 de agosto (ATCC) -- Con motivo del sexto aniversario de la visita del Dirigente Kim Jong Il a la Federacion Rusa y del quinto de su estancia en la region del lejano Oriente, el embajador ruso en Corea, Valery Sukhinin, ofrecio el dia 9 un banquete en su sede diplomatica.
Entre los invitados figuraban el vicepresidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, Kim Yong Chun, el canciller Pak Ui Chun, los primeros subjefes de departamento del CC del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Ju Kyu Chang y Jang Song Thaek, el jefe del departamento de asuntos exteriores del CDN, Jon Hui Jong y el vicecanciller Kung Sok Ung.
