Day of Korea's Liberation Marked
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- The Group of Dialectical Materialist of Italy on August 14 posted an article on its Internet homepage on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the liberation of Korea.
The homepage in its article said that the Korean people defeated the gangster-like Japanese imperialists and achieved the liberation of the country on August 15, 1945 under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung.
Noting that the Korean people again won a victory in the 1950-1953 war provoked by the U.S. imperialists, thus bringing about the beginning of downhill turn for them, the article went on:
The territory of Korea was divided into two by the United States and the Korean people have since suffered the pain from national division.
President Kim Il Sung put forward many fair and just and principled proposals for reunification including the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation and devoted his all to their realization.
Thanks to the leadership of Kim Jong Il Korean socialism has been firmly defended and developed.
The British Association for the Study of Songun Policy on August 15 also posted an article on its Internet homepage of Songun Group.
The article praised the President as the sun of the Korean nation as he indicated the way of liberating Korea from the several decade- long dark colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists.
Important Days of DPRK Observed
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- A lecture was given in Democratic Congo and a meeting, an exhibition of Korean books and photos and a film show took place in Laos from Aug. 8 to 12 on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of Songun revolutionary leadership and the 59th anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Displayed in the venues of functions were famous works of the peerless great persons and photos showing their immortal exploits.
Chairman of the National Committee of the Genuine Lumumbist Patriotic Party of Democratic Congo Otete Gaston Mboyo in his lecture explained that the Workers' Party of Korea has grown to be a mighty guiding force victoriously steering socialist construction, guided by the Songun idea.
He stressed that Kim Jong Il's Songun policy serves as a political mode and a powerful ideological and theoretical weapon to be held fast to by the progressive people of the world desirous of an independent just new society.
The manager of the Laos-Korea Tin Company in his speech at the meeting noted that Kim Jong Il, successor to the cause of President Kim Il Sung, is a prominent leader who has wisely led the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation, firmly protecting the sovereignty of the country and dignity of the nation.
The participants of the film show watched the Korean film "The Brilliant History of the Great Leadership."
Ministries and National Institutions Help Inhabitants in Flood-Stricken Areas
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- Ministries and national institutions are rendering sincere help to the inhabitants in the flood-stricken areas.
The Ministry of Electric Power Industry, the Ministry of Metal Industry, the Ministry of Construction and Building Materials Industries, the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Railways and other units have taken measures to send electricity, iron and steel, cement, timber, electric poles, etc. to the afflicted areas in time.
Officials of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of City Management and the Ministry of Chemical Industry visited inhabitants in the afflicted areas and provided them with a variety of daily necessaries and other materials needed to bring their living to normal.

"Complete Collection of Kim Il Sung's Works" Vol. 71 Published
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- The "Complete Collection of Kim Il Sung's Works" Vol. 71 has been brought out by the Workers' Party of Korea Publishing House.
It carries 43 works of President Kim Il Sung including speeches and talks belonging to the period from January to July, Juche 69 (1980).
The works deal with outstanding ideas, theories and policies put forward by the President for accelerating socialist construction more energetically in conformity with the requirements of the developing revolution and accomplishing the cause of national reunification and global independence.
In the works including "New Year Address," "On Some Problems to Be Held Fast to in the Work of the State Planning Commission" and "On Taking Thorough Measures for Increasing Grain Production" the President indicates tasks and ways for making an epochal advance in socialist economic construction.
"Let Us Increase the Standard of Living of the People through the Development of the Textile, Food and Consumer Goods Industries," "Let Us Increase the Standard of Living of the People by Developing the Fishing Industry" and other works expound the needs to produce greater quantities of good-quality fabrics, increase the production of various household appliances and furniture, achieve greater results in food production and ways for increasing fisheries output and improving the processing and supply of marine products.

Japan's Fabrication of "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty" Assailed
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- The "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty" is a historical evidence throwing a revealing light on the aggressive and robber-like nature and impudence of the Japanese imperialists, being a forgery previously unknown in history which was aimed to erase the name of Korea once and for all on the globe and totally destroy the Korean nation as a nation, thus reducing it to a slave, pure and simple, for Japan, states Rodong Sinmun in an article Wednesday marking the lapse of 97 years after the Japanese imperialists fabricated the "treaty" by force.
The author of the article says:
The "annexation" loudly advertised by the Japanese imperialists was not in any account made at the Korean people's will, but it was a product of a brigandish move to absorb Korea into Japan.
The major ground of the "treaty" being a document illegally faked up is that the Japanese imperialists cooked it up after depriving the feudal government of the Ri Dynasty of all its diplomatic rights and through military threats and by force and that it was a false document lacking the ratification of the sovereign of the state.
After enumerating detailed facts proving the illegality of the pseudo "treaty", the article goes on:
Ignoring these facts, the Japanese ultra-right conservative politicians have in recent years made desperate efforts to attach legality to the "treaty," claiming that it was "an option of the Koreans."
This is an intolerable insult to the Korean people who regard national dignity and independence as their life and soul and a mockery of human conscience.
The Japanese reactionaries' hokum about "Koreans' option" has a thread of connection with their nonsensical talk that "parents sold off their daughters" with regard to the "comfort women" recruited for the Imperial Japanese Army. This is a jargon that can be uttered only by those seized with mental disorder who are bereft of reason, to say nothing of morality and human conscience.
No matter how much water may flow under the bridge and whatever sophism may be uttered by the Japanese reactionaries, the crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists against Korea and its nation can never be covered up.
Minju Joson also carries a signed article urging Japan to make an apology and full compensation for having imposed unspeakable misfortunes and pain upon the Korean people in the past.
Unity for Reunification Movement Urged
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- The Koreans in the north and the south and overseas should turn out as one man in the patriotic cause of achieving and consolidating the unity of the whole nation under the uplifted banner of the June 15 joint declaration, the banner of "By our nation itself", urges Rodong Sinmun in an article Wednesday.
The by-lined article says:
The present June 15 era of reunification calls all the fellow countrymen to unity.
The whole nation should get closely united, giving priority to the common interests of the nation regardless of ideology, idea and system.
Anyone who is truly concerned over the destiny of the country and nation and desirous of national reunification should neither absolutize the differences in ideology and system between the north and the south nor put the interests and demand of a specific class or stratum in the foreground. There must not be such unsavory conducts as turning aside from unity and distrusting and antagonizing each other because of the differences in ideology, system and political idea. All the Koreans should firmly unite as one with the noble desire for national reunification.
The unity of the nation should be achieved strictly on the principle of national independence.
No outsider can be allowed to step into or poke his nose into the national affairs of the Koreans. If foreign interference in the national affairs is allowed, it will lead to the encroachment upon the dignity and interests of the nation and the ruin of its destiny.
Rodong Sinmun on Kim Jong Il's Songun Leadership Exploits
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il's several decade-long history of revolutionary activities is shining as ever-victorious history of the Songun revolutionary leadership. His Songun leadership exploits serve as an eternal treasure of the Korean revolution.

The leader's history of Songun revolutionary leadership is a glorious history in which he set an example of the times in carrying forward the revolutionary cause of President Kim Il Sung and creating socialist politics in the era of independence and an immortal history in which he laid an eternal foundation that made it possible for the DPRK and the Korean revolution to always emerge victorious and prosper.
Kim Jong Il started his Songun revolutionary leadership on Aug. 25, Juche 49 (1960). This marked a historic event of epochal significance in developing the revolutionary armed forces and carrying out the Juche revolutionary cause in the DPRK. This ushered in an era of successfully carrying forward the Songun revolutionary cause that started in Mt. Paektu under the banner of the Juche idea.

National Youth Scientific and Technological Achievements Exhibition Opens
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- A national exhibition of youth scientific and technological achievements opened to mark the 80th anniversary of the Young Communist League of Korea.
On display there are at least 1,800 materials on invention and new technological innovation contributed by young scientists, technicians and inventors from across the country.
Among them are multi-media program "The great man and five revolutionary operas", program of tending plants around the Kumsusan Memorial Palace "Green Forest", program for testing Pyongyang cultured language "Pyongyang speech (2.0)" and others.
Latest scientific and technological achievements and new products such as humic acid Kumgang medicinal stone composite fertilizer, cream for removing oil and filter paper for dropper are appreciated by visitors.
An opening ceremony took place at the Three-Revolution Exhibition Wednesday.
Present there were Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea Kim Jung Rin, President of the State Academy of Sciences Pyon Yong Rip, young scientists, technicians, inventors and working people from different parts of the country.
DPRK Full of Spirit of Attaching Importance to Arms
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- It has become a spirit in the DPRK to attach importance to the armed forces.
Experienced that apart from arms it is impossible to guarantee the destiny of the people and the happiness of the rising generation, to say nothing of the destiny of the country and the victory of the socialist cause, the Korean people have the idea of attaching importance to military affairs as the loftiest requirement of their life and struggle and the unswerving confidence and will.
In March Juche 82 (1993) when the U.S. imperialists were frenzied with the "Team Spirit 93" joint military exercises, the Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army issued an order on putting the whole country, all people and entire army on a semi-war footing. In hearty response to the order, more than 1,500,000 young people volunteered to return to or join the army.
In 1994, too, when the U.S. imperialists worked out "OPLAN 5027", the second Korean war scenario and were going to ignite the fuse of war, millions of youths demonstrated their firm will to take arms and make a total showdown with the aggressors.
The parents regarded it as the greatest pleasure and family tradition to send their children to the army even during the difficult "Arduous March" and forced march.
Women bring up orphans to guard the posts of national defense and girls in towns get married to officers of frontline army units. Such beautiful stories are heard in different parts of the country.
The ranks of servicepersons' families are growing in number. Among them are Om Pok Sun's family and Pak Yong Chol's family. Om has let her daughters stand on the post where she had guarded and all her family members put on the military uniform. Pak and his seven brothers stoutly take rifles in their hands.
The idea of attaching importance to arms is manifested in heroic deeds. Hero Kil Yong Jo defended the revolutionary headquarters at the cost of his life. The heroes of Mujae Peak saved the revolutionary slogan-bearing trees, the eternal treasure of the Korean revolution with their lives. The fishermen of angle fishing net boat 1286 of the Onchon Fishing Company kept the portraits of the great men of Mt. Paektu to the last moment of their lives in the rough storm and tribulations.
"Let us defend the revolutionary headquarters headed by the great Comrade Kim Jong Il at the cost of our lives!" This slogan represents the firm oath of the Korean people to take the idea of attaching importance to arms as the faith.

August 15 Grand Festival for National Reunification Held in New York
Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- A function of the August 15 Grand Festival for National Reunification was held in New York on Aug. 16 under the sponsorship of the U.S. regional committee for implementing June 15 joint declaration.
Mun Tong Hwan, co-chairman of the June 15 All-Korean Committee, made a report at the function which was followed by speeches.
The reporter and speakers accused the Japanese government of having refused to make an apology for the past crimes, though 62 years have passed since the Japanese imperialists were defeated.
A resolution denouncing the Japanese government's moves against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) was read out at the function.
The resolution urged the Japanese government to immediately stop the suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan and legally guarantee their basic rights and national activities.

Pyongyang, 22 de agosto (ATCC) -- La Editora del Partido del Trabajo de Corea dio a luz el tomo 71 de las obras completas de Kim Il Sung.
El tomo 71 recoge 43 trabajos del Presidente Kim Il Sung, entre ellos, discursos y charlas pronunciados en el periodo desde enero hasta julio del 69 (1980) de la Era Juche.
Las obras sintetizan las destacadas ideas, teorias y orientaciones que el Presidente presento para acelerar con mas vigor la construccion socialista conforme a la demanda del desarrollo de la revolucion, y para llevar a efecto la reunificacion de la patria y la causa de verificacion de la independencia en el mundo.
Los trabajos "Mensaje de Ano Nuevo", "Sobre algunos problemas que han de ser controlados en el trabajo del Comite Estatal de Planificacion", "Para tomar estrictas medidas para aumentar la produccion cerealista", etc. dilucidan las tareas y medios para lograr un avance trascendental en la construccion economica socialista.

Ministerios y organos centrales ayudan a los habitantes damnificados
Pyongyang, 22 de agosto (ATCC) -- Los ministerios y organos centrales se muestran activistas en la asistencia a los habitantes de las zonas damnificadas por las inundaciones.
Los Ministerios de la Industria Electrica, de Industria Metalurgica, de la Construccion y de Industria de Materiales de Construccion, de Silvicultura, de Ferrocarril y otras unidades toman medidas para suministrar a tiempo la electricidad, materiales de hierro y acero, cemento, troncos de arbol, postes electricos, etc.
En tanto, los funcionarios del Presidium de la Asamblea Popular Suprema, los Ministerios de Comercio, de Educacion, de Administracion Urbana y de Industria Quimica visitaron a los perjudicados con articulos de primera necesidad de varios tipos y materiales necesarios a la estabilizacion de la vida.
