Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met and had a conversation with Phan Trong Thai, Vietnamese ambassador to the DPRK, who paid a farewell call on him, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on Wednesday.

Rodong Sinmun Observes 47th Anniversary of Opening of Diplomatic Ties between DPRK and Cuba

Evening Gala of Youth and Students Held
Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- An evening gala of youth and students took place at Kim Il Sung Square on Tuesday to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Young Communist League of Korea.
The gala which began with chorus of song "Long Live Generalissimo Kim Il Sung" was replete with profound thanks to Kim Jong Il.
The participants in the gala presented dynamic dances to the tune of songs while forming a huge torch on the square.
Young men and women with red flags and a variety of small properties in their hands performed callisthenic and acrobatic pieces, etc. with optimism.
Foreign guests and overseas compatriots joined youth and students, adding to the festivity of the day.

Kim Jong Il's Work Published in Trinidad and Tobago
Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il's work "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification" was brought out in pamphlet by the Rapid Print Publishing House in Trinidad and Tobago on Aug. 15.
The work, published on Aug. 4, Juche 86 (1997), deals with the undying exploits President Kim Il Sung performed in the cause of national reunification, formulates the three principles of national reunification, the ten-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo as three charters for national reunification and clarifies tasks for achieving the cause of national reunification on the basis of them and ways to do so.
Halt to War Exercises Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- The preparatory committee of the Solidarity for Progress in south Korea reportedly held a meeting in Seoul on August 25 in demand of a halt to the "Ulji Focus Lens" war exercises threatening peace on the Korean Peninsula, the signing of a peace agreement and the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea.
The speakers at the meeting denounced the south Korean military authorities for getting feverish in the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises in collusion with the U.S. forces.
They said the United States and the south Korean military authorities should retract all the war scenarios including "OPLAN 5027-04" and do what little they could to help toward the development of the inter-Korean relations and achievement of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
A letter of protest to the U.S. embassy which was read out at the meeting said the "Ulji Focus Lens" should be stopped at once for the peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula as they were a war game aimed at "the collapse of the north".
At the end of the meeting representatives of organizations of different circles handed the letter of protest to the U.S. embassy.
Rodong Sinmun Calls for Intensifying Cultural and Emotional Cultivation
Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in a by-lined article today says it is an important principle consistently maintained by the Workers' Party of Korea in its ideological work to steadily intensify cultural and emotional cultivation.
It goes on:
When it is intensified so that everyone may work with a high cultural standard, full of hope and optimism for the future, the advantages of Korean-style socialism centered on the popular masses will be given full play.
Intensifying cultural and emotional cultivation is an important undertaking to vigorously speed up the building of a great prosperous powerful nation by giving full scope to the revolutionary zeal and optimistic fighting spirit of the Korean people. And it is an important demand in strictly curbing the reactionary ideological and cultural infiltration of the imperialists and firmly defending socialist ideology and culture in the DPRK.
The revolution victoriously advances where songs reverberate far and wide and miracles are wrought and feats performed in a place overflowing with rich emotion and optimism. Great Alliance against Conservatives Called for
Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- A great alliance against the conservatives is the option of justice for the south Korean people to achieve social progress and national reunification, repulsing the desperate challenge of the band of the south Korean Grand National Party (GNP), says Rodong Sinmun in an article Wednesday.

Pro-U.S. conservatism in south Korea is an old one going against the desire for independence and demand of the people and the trend of the times and its citadel is none other than the GNP.
The great alliance against the conservatives is the propelling force of a progressive reform in the south Korean society. Now the progressive reform in south Korea is standing out as an urgent task of the times and it can be carried out only by the united efforts of the people of all social strata, its master.
Independence of the south Korean society and its democratization is the century-old desire of the south Korean people and is the main substance of the progressive reform.
If the GNP band gratified its ambition for power, the people's dream of social independence and democratization would be crudely trampled underfoot and south Korea would remain indefinitely a politically underdeveloped area and dark society where fascist dictatorship would hold sway.
The great alliance against the conservatives is the prerequisite to national unity and reunification.

Japan's Move to Revive Militarism Assailed
Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today accuses the Abe team of hastening the revision of the constitution while setting spurs to the buildup of military power, constantly peddling the ware of "departure from the postwar regime."

What the Abe team seeks in putting spurs to the buildup of military power is to lay a military foundation for Japan's overseas expansion during its office. Japan is going to develop and import ultra modern fighters with a very large range of operation while introducing refueling tankers. This is intended to launch into fierce aggressive military operations in the Asia-Pacific region. Japan has become so emboldened as to attempt to seize supremacy by expanding the sphere of military actions without hesitation with the Asia-Pacific region as the theatre.
Japan's drive to lay a military foundation for overseas expansion is fostering and aggravating a new arms race and cold war in the region.
Its wild ambition is to round off preparations for overseas aggression through arms buildup.
The Abe team obsessed with the revival of militarism and overseas expansion is longing for the days when the Japanese imperialists could draw arrows of invasion on the world map as they pleased and carried it into practice and trying to bring back those days.
The Abe team should not run about like a headless chicken, knowing clearly that its reckless push for the revival of militarism is a foolish act driving Japan into a quagmire of destruction.
Abe's Disgusting Behavior under Fire
Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Abe, addressing an event held on the occasion of the day of defeat in Japan on August 15, expressed "deep regret" and "condolence" to the people of those countries that suffered from Japan during the World War II. He, at the same time, jabbered he admitted to the great pain and damage inflicted by Japan upon Asian people in the past. But no word of "apology" could be heard from him.
Minju Joson today observes in a signed commentary carried in this regard:
Such words as "regret" and "recognition of fact" uttered by Abe only to provoke people's derision are intended to calm down Asians' bitterness towards Japan and appease them.
This explains the reason why Abe refrained from visiting the "Yasukuni Shrine" this time unlike what he did in the past.
What he has in mind is that Japan did do nothing wrong in the past and, accordingly, it would not make any apology or compensation.
Such wicked intention of Abe found its clear manifestation during his junket to India. By meeting with the family of an Indian judge who denied Japan's war crimes Abe denied the legitimacy of the ruling made by the then Military Tribunal for Far East and sought to build international public opinion on it.
The above-mentioned fact proved that Abe is nothing but a poisonous herb sprouted from a poisonous root called militarism in view of his bloodline and political view.
Such foolish behavior of Japan only arouses people's disgust and will inevitably lead it to isolation and ruin.
Folk Parks and Play-grounds Are Being Built
Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Folk parks, folk amusement places and folk streets are under construction in different parts of the country.
A folk park was built with distinctive feature in Sukchon County, South Phyongan Province some time ago.
The park is surrounded by folding-screen walls showing beautiful sceneries of mountains and rivers. It has animal sculptures, service facilities national in form, and yut-game, swinging, ssirum (Korean wrestling), seesaw and other folk amusement game grounds. The facilities add joy and optimism to the holiday-makers in the county.
Folk play-grounds and folk amusement game grounds have been built in different parts of Pyongyang.
The folk street in Sariwon, North Hwanghae Province and folk dish restaurants across the country reflect the will of the Korean people to carry forward superiority and time-honored traditions of the nation.
April 15 Children's Flower Garden
Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- The April 15 Children's Flower Garden at the foot of Mt. Song in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang is a center for the cultural and emotional life and for botanical education of schoolchildren.
A large number of schoolchildren in the capital take the summer vacation to visit it to acquire rich botanical knowledge.
It, opened in April Juche 81 (1992), consists of more than 9,000 square meters of flower garden, more than 12,000 square meters of lawn, over 35,000 square meters of woodland, over 6,000 square meters of dancing fountains and others.
There is in the garden a botanic exhibition built in the shape of the badge of the Korean Children's Union.
The exhibition covering over 1,400 square meters is divided into the Kimilsungia hall, Kimjongilia hall and general hall where hundreds of kinds of rare trees and flowering plants growing in different parts of the country and various countries are on display.
Magnolia, lily of the valley, rose, chrysanthemum and iris districts have been arranged for the sake of ornamental beauty according to species.
The water-falls, a pavilion on water, various sculptures and dancing fountains are well blended with the surrounding nature to add beauty to the flower garden.
The garden is associated with the love and benevolence of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
They visited the flower garden under construction in April 1991 and transplanted trees together with youth and children in Pyongyang.

Pyongyang, 29 de agosto (ATCC) -- En un comentario individual del dia 29, el periodico Rodong Sinmun condeno a las fuerzas de Abe que al esgrimir la teoria de "liberarse del sistema postbelico" aceleran la enmienda constitucional y dan acicate al fortalecimiento del poderio militar.
Lo hacen las fuerzas de Abe para echar durante su mandato la base militar que permite a Japon ir a la expansion a ultramar, senala el comentarista y continua:
Japon intenta introducir el avion nodriza e inventar y comprar cazas de punta con gran radio de accion con el objeto de librar intensamente la operacion militar agresiva en la region de Asia - Pacifico.
Ahora, Japon trata de tomar la heguemonia ampliando la esfera de accion militar en esa region.
Las maniobras del pais isleno encaminadas a echar la base militar de la expansion a ultramar promueven y agudizan una nueva carrera armamentista y la guerra fria.
Ese pais isleno trata de dar toque final a los preparativos de agresion a otros paises mediante el aumento armamentista.
La banda de Abe, enajenada por el resurgimiento militarista y la expansion a ultramar, anora y tiende a reeditar aquel periodo en que los imperialistas japoneses trazaban arbitrariamente la flecha de la agresion en el mapamundi y la llevaban a la practica.

Minju Joson comenta conducta repugnante de Abe
Pyongyang, 29 de agosto (ATCC) -- El pasado 15 de agosto, en un acto por el dia de la derrota de Japon en la segunda guerra mundial, efectuado en este pais, el premier japones Abe expreso "lastima" y "condolencias" profundas a los pueblos de los paises perjudicados por su pais durante esa contienda belica y dijo que "reconoce" que Japon infligio en el pasado grandes sufrimientos y danos a los pueblos asiaticos.
Pero el no pronuncio ni una sola expresion como "pedir perdon".
Al respecto, el periodico Minju Joson difundio este miercoles un comentario individual revelando que Abe intenta atenuar el odio de los pueblos asiaticos hacia Japon y enganarlos con esas palabras incoherentes.
Para ese fin, Abe se abstuvo de la visita al "Santuario Yasukuni", que realizaba como de costumbre, precisa el comentarista y prosigue:
La verdadera intencion de Abe es que Japon no pedira perdon ni recompensara porque no hizo nada malo en el pasado.
Esta mala intencion se manifesto cuando el visito recientemente la India.
Es que Abe se encontro con la familia de un juez indio, quien dio negativa a los crimenes de guerra cometidos por Japon en el pasado, en su intento de probar la ilegalidad de la sentencia del Tribunal Militar del Extremo Oriente y hacer que la sociedad internacional la admita.
En fin, a traves de la visita a la India, Abe mostro que tanto en vista de su linaje como a la luz de su criterio politico, el es una hierba venenosa crecida de la raiz militarista.
El sucio acto de Japon da asco a las personas y producira el aislamiento y la ruina de este pais.
Trinidad y Tobago: editada obra de Kim Jong Il en folleto
Pyongyang, 29 de agosto (ATCC) -- La Editorial Rapid Print de Trinidad y Tobago dio a luz el dia 15 en folleto la obra del Dirigente Kim Jong Il "Materialicemos de modo consecuente el legado del gran Lider, camarada Kim Il Sung para la reunificacion de la patria", publicada el 4 de agosto del 86 (1997) de la Era Juche.
Esta obra da cuenta de las hazanas inmortales del Presidente Kim Il Sung realizadas por la causa de reunificacion de la patria y formula como las 3 cartas para la misma empresa los 3 Principios de la Reunificacion de la Patria, el Programa de Diez Puntos de la Gran Unidad Pannacional y el Proyecto de la Fundacion de la Republica Federal Democratica de Coryo.
Igualmente, a base de ello, aclara las tareas y los remedios para cumplir la causa en cuestion.
