Validity and Vitality of Three Charters for National Reunification Proved
Pyongyang, September 12 (KCNA) -- Ten years have passed since Kim Jong Il published the famous work "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification" on August 4, 1997 and formulated the President's idea and line on national reunification as three charters for national reunification.
Over the last decade, a new epochal phase has been brought about in the development of the north-south relations and in the efforts for accomplishing the cause of national reunification and the entire Korean people have turned out vigorously in the struggle for smashing all the obstructions of the anti-reunification forces within and without and achieving the reunification under the banner of national independence and great unity.
The historic Pyongyang summit was arranged in June 2000 by Kim Jong Il's will of loving the country and the nation to publish the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, the kernel of which is "by our nation itself," an embodiment of the idea of the three charters. Those years have witnessed achievements unprecedented in the north-south relations.
There were twists and turns owing to the moves of foreign forces to obstruct the reconciliation, cooperation and reunification of the Korean nation. But the north and south have held more than 140 talks and contacts including 21 rounds of ministerial talks and 13 rounds of meetings of the north-south committee for the promotion of economic cooperation. Both sides have briskly pushed ahead with the national economic collaboration such as the tourism of Mt. Kumgang and the construction of the Kaesong Industrial Zone.
In this period the severed railway lines and roads were relinked, air and sea routes opened and reunification activities of the north and the south held with large attendance on the occasion of the commemoration days common to the nation including August 15 and June 15.
At the functions held in Pyongyang, Seoul, Mt. Paektu, Jeju Island and other parts of the north and south of Korea, fellow countrymen raised cheers calling for reunification all over the world.
The scenes showing joint entrance of the athletes from the north and the south with the Korean peninsula flag in their van and the joint cheering in international sports competitions stirred up the enthusiasm of the Korean nation for reunification.
The present stirring realities in which the Korean nation is glorifying the June 15 reunification era, attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity, clearly show the validity and tremendous vitality of the three charters.

Japan's Wrong Marking of "Sea of Korea" as "Sea of Japan" under Fire
Pyongyang, September 12 (KCNA) -- Japan asserted at the recent 9th UN Conference on Standardization of Geographical Names that the "Sea of Japan" has long been recognized internationally and has nothing to do with the colonial rule enforced by it in the past.
Rodong Sinmun Wednesday observes in a signed commentary in this regard: What Japan trumpeted about this or that with the above-said conference as a momentum is, in essence, an extension of its vicious moves for territorial expansion.
Japan seeks to legalize Tok Islet as "part of Japan's territory" and the East Sea of Korea as "Sea of Japan" and realize its ambition for reinvasion of Korea with it as a springboard, the commentary notes, and goes on:
Japan's assertion that the East Sea of Korea be marked as "Sea of Japan" is a shameless distortion of history in disregard of the historicist principle and objective facts and a revelation of its militarist design for reinvasion.
It is nonsensical for Japan to assert that the marking of the "Sea of Japan" has nothing to do with the colonial rule enforced by Japan in the past.
The name of the East Sea of Korea was changed into "Sea of Japan" when the Japanese imperialists began working hard for the colonial occupation of Korea.
After occupying Korea by force of arms in the past century, the Japanese imperialists resorted to crafty moves to mark the East Sea of Korea as "Sea of Japan" at the International Hydrographic Conference held in 1929. Marking the East Sea of Korea as "Sea of Japan" was a product of the Japanese imperialists' policy of colonial occupation and domination over Korea. Japan's persistent insistence that the East Sea of Korea be marked as "Sea of Japan" though 60 years have passed since the defeat of Japanese imperialism is little short of calling back the departed soul of the Japanese imperialists.
Japan's sophism that the marking of the East Sea of Korea as "Sea of Japan" is "internationally recognized" is nothing but a sheer distortion of the reality and a foolish ruse to justify its brigandish act.
Rodong Sinmun on Cultural and Emotional Life in Songun Era
Pyongyang, September 12 (KCNA) -- All the Party members and other working people should turn out to bring about a fresh turn in establishing the sound way of cultural and emotional life in the whole society, regarding it as an important political task for glorifying the era of Songun, says Rodong Sinmun today in an editorial.
The Korean people should take the lead in cultural and emotional life, too, as they live in the homeland of great idea steering the era, that of the Songun politics, the editorial says, and goes on:
To make the noble style of cultural and emotional life prevail over the country is an important work for bringing the advantages of Korean socialism into full play, and it is a major way for making fresh leaps and innovations in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
It is the true picture of our society that all the people enjoy a highly civilized and emotional life, helping and leading each other forward, closely rallied as one around the Party and the leader.
Wherever loud singing can be heard, revolution is sure to emerge victorious, and wherever rich emotion and militant optimism are brimful, one can witness miracles and innovations.
The militant and optimistic, cultural and emotional life of the Korean People's Army has become a model of socialist way of cultural and emotional life in the era of Songun. All the people should spruce up their units and houses, manage the economic life assiduously and methodically and always live and work full of optimism and joy, conducting militant art activities just as servicemen and their families do.
Rodong Sinmun on Task for Korea's Reunification
Pyongyang, September 12 (KCNA) -- It is a main task facing the movement for national reunification to oppose aggression and war moves and ensure durable peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says this in a signed article.
The United States still remains a main target of the anti-war peace struggle in the peninsula, the article points out, and says:
The U.S. openly designated the DPRK as a target of preemptive nuclear attack in the new century. And it has been massively deploying latest attack weapons and war equipment in and around south Korea while ceaselessly staging such large-scale war exercises against the DPRK as RSOI, Foal Eagle and Ulji Focus Lens joint military maneuvers in an attempt to carry out the preemptive nuclear attack.
But for the strong war deterrent built up by the DPRK for self-defence, another war would have already broken out on the Korean Peninsula.
The main link in the struggle for peace against war is to get the U.S. imperialist aggression forces withdrawn from south Korea.
The forces are a field executor of the U.S. policy of aggression on the DPRK. Today when the atmosphere of reconciliation and unity is growing stronger and "Our nation by itself," the idea of national independence, serves as the idea of nationwide reunification and patriotic movement on the Korean Peninsula, there is no justification for the U.S. to keep its aggression forces in south Korea.
The pro-American conservative forces in south Korea supporting the outsiders' aggression and war moves become a main target of the anti-war peace struggle.
The above-said forces including the Grand National Party of south Korea are a group of traitors and warmongers seeking to bring disasters of war to the peninsula by toeing the U.S. policy of aggression on the DPRK.
The people from all walks of life in south Korea should intensify the anti-GNP struggle under the banner of the great alliance against the conservatives and thus deal a telling blow of history to the pro-American reactionary conservatives who are hell-bent, in collusion with foreign forces, on the anti-reunification confrontation moves and maneuvers for war against the DPRK.

Repeal of NSL Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, September 12 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Solidarity for the Implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and Peace of the Korean Peninsula, the Citizens' Solidarity for Peace and Reunification, the Headquarters of Movement for Fellow Countrymen to Become One and other organizations of people of different social standings of south Korea reportedly called a press conference in Seoul on September 6 in demand of the repeal of the "National Security Law (NSL)."
Speakers at the press conference accused the "Grand National Party" of having worked hard to block the carriage of the "bill on the repeal of NSL" which had been presented to the "National Assembly" in 2004.
They held that the bill should be passed through the session of the current NA without fail to abolish the evil law, a leftover of the era of dictatorship.
They called on the people of different social standings to turn out in the struggle for the disbandment of the GNP which has persisted in the anti-reunification acts, doggedly insisting on keeping the evil law in force.
A press release read out at the press conference urged the NA to make efforts for the repeal of the evil law with the will for peace and reunification.
