Plunder of Fur-seals by Japanese Imperialists in Tok Islet
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The Japanese imperialists had captured fur-seals in Tok Islet at random during their occupation of Korea.
Tok Islet in the East Sea of Korea is rich in marine resources and famous for the habitat of fur-seals from long ago.
The Japanese imperialists, who had been covetous of the islet, concocted the "notification of the Shimane Prefecture" on attaching it to the prefecture in February 1905.
After then Japanese reactionaries organized the "Takeshima (Tok Islet) Fishing Joint Venture Company" to capture fur-seals in earnest.
They hunted over 100 fur-seals on the very day of test operation of the company in June 1905 and over 1,000 fur-seals by September that year.
The fact clearly discloses how deceptive and hypocritical the "protection of fur-seal resources" and the "proper capture" advocated by the Japanese imperialists were.
At that time they "stipulated" that the annual capture of fur-seals in Tok Islet should not go beyond the limit of 600 heads under the pretext of "preventing the random capture".
But Japanese fishing companies, which were engrossed in money-making, wantonly violated the "stipulations" from the first year under the patronage of the government, and raised the amount of fur-seal catch from 600 to 1,500 heads next year.
The amount of fur-seal catch grew year after year, reaching more than 2,000 heads in 1907.
This is also a curtailed number.
Owing to the random hunting of fur-seals by the Japanese imperialists, fur-seals came to diminish in number in Tok islet. Now it is hard to see fur-seals there.
The Japanese imperialists are the heinous criminals who illegally seized the islet, inalienable territory of Korea, and plundered her of the precious resources.
The Japanese authorities should be responsible for the pillage of the resources in Tok Islet in the past and apologize and compensate for it.

Rodong Sinmun on Programme for Korea's Reunification
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The June 15 joint declaration serves as an action programme common to the nation and a banner of victory that all Koreans should always hold fast to in the movement for national reunification at present, says Rodong Sinmun today in a by-lined article.
The joint declaration elucidates the fundamental principles which call on the Koreans responsible for solving the question of national reunification to independently settle it by their concerted efforts, the article notes, and goes on:
The idea of "By our nation itself" enshrined in the declaration is based on the principle of national independence. Only when this principle of independence, the principle calling for resolutely standing against outsiders' domination and intervention, flunkeyism and dependence on outsiders, is adhered to, is it possible for the Korean nation to successfully achieve the cause of national reunification in keeping with its demand and interests.
The above-said idea presupposes the great unity of the entire nation. Without this unity for strengthening the driving force for national reunification, it is hard to expect victory in the cause of national reunification accompanied by a fierce struggle against the anti-reunification forces. The great unity of the entire nation constitutes powerful strength for shaping the nation's destiny independently.
The idea of "By our nation itself" is basically required for achieving the above-said unity. Therefore, differences in ideology, ism, political view, religious belief, classes and strata should not be absolutized in the matter of achieving the great national unity in the above-said idea. When primary consideration is given to the destiny of the nation and the reunification of the country, its common interests, is put above anything else, such differences can neither be problematic nor be obstructive to achieving the great national unity.
The joint declaration also comprehensively indicates the tasks and ways for realizing national reconciliation and unity and reunifying the country as it calls for solving humanitarian matters between the north and the south of Korea, developing the nation's economy in a balanced way through their economic cooperation and building confidence between the two sides through brisk cooperation and exchange in the social, cultural, sports, health and environmental and various other fields.
World People Advocating Independence Called upon to Unite
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The slogan "The world people advocating independence, unite!" put up by President Kim Il Sung serves as a basic guarantee for victoriously advancing the human cause of independence despite any obstructive moves of the imperialists and as a banner of international solidarity.
Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in a signed article.
It goes on:
The human desire for independence is now growing stronger as the days go by and it has become an irresistible trend of the times for the popular masses to struggle for advancing the cause of global independence.
It is possible to isolate and weaken the imperialist and hegemonic forces and further strengthen the anti-imperialist and independent forces only when all the revolutionary countries and progressives in the world desirous of independence achieve unity.
The above-said slogan serves as a basic guarantee for the victory of the human cause of independence because it indicates a clear way of strengthening the driving force for carrying out the human cause of independence. The world people desirous of independence are the driving force for accomplishing the human cause of independence. Only when the world people firmly unite and cooperate with one another under the banner of independence, is it possible to increase the force for independence and surely frustrate any move of the counter-revolutionary forces.
The international slogan calling on the world people advocating independence to unite reflects the common aspiration of all the world people.
The world people advocating independence should counter the imperialists' moves for division and alienation and strategy for destroying them one by one with the strategy of unity and solidarity. Herein lies the key to winning a victory in the cause of global independence.
When the world progressives firmly unite and cooperate with one another under the banner of independence, the moves of the imperialist and reactionary forces for domination are bound to go bust and the cause of global independence is sure to win one victory after another.

Minju Joson refuta a Ri Myong Bak
