Kim Yong Nam Receives Credentials from Lao Ambassador
Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, received credentials from Lao Ambassador to the DPRK Chaleune Warinthrasak at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on Wednesday.
Present there were Kung Sok Ung, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and staff members of the Lao embassy.
After receiving credentials, Kim Yong Nam had a talk with the Lao ambassador.
Choe Thae Bok Meets Cuban Ambassador

DPRK Weightlifter Wins World Men's Weightlifting Title
Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- DPRK weightlifter Cha Kum Chol won the title in the 56kg category at the World Men's Weightlifting Championships for 2007 held in Thailand.
At the 56kg category contest held on Sept. 18 he lifted a total of 283 kg (snatch 128kg, clean and jerk 155kg) to come first and win a gold medal.
And he also placed second in snatch and clean and jerk events respectively.
DPRK Women Football Team Advances to Quarter-finals
Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- The Group B round-robin series of the 5th Women's World Cup ended on Tuesday.
The girls of the DPRK gained the berth in the quarter finals by collecting 4 points total and finishing second in the group with one win, one draw and one defeat.
New Scientific Films Released
Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- The Korean Documentary and Scientific Film Studio has newly produced the scientific films "New Method of Economizing Electric Power" and "Water-proof Multilayer Complex Plastic Sheet."
The former theoretically explains how the static condenser and electric economizer for home use can decrease the electricity consumption by over 10 per cent.
The film also introduces to constantly lower the norm of electricity consumption per unit and to elevate the heat efficiency of heating furnaces as an important way for the economy of electric power.
The latter one introduces the water-proof multilayer complex plastic sheet which will raise the quality of structures.
The sheet well stands strong ultraviolet rays and heat and does not change under the temperature of 40 degrees below zero.
The film shows that the sheet is widely used in the projects of building roofs, swimming pools and underground structures.
Uibangryuchwi, World's Oldest Medical Encyclopedia
Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- The 9th Pyongyang Symposium on Medical Science of compatriots from home and abroad was held at the People's Palace of Culture on Sept. 12 and 13.
At the symposium a lecture was given under the title "Historical and bibliographical study into the world's first medical encyclopedia 'Uibangryuchwi'"
The Uibangryuchwi was compiled as an important state work by the order from Sejong, the fourth king of the Ri Dynasty feudal state. Attended there were several medical doctors of Jiphyonjon (Academic Centre) including Ro Jung Rye, the then supreme authority of the Korean medical world.
Uibangryuchwi (365 volumes in all) integrates in a systematic way most of the medical successes made in Korea and the Orient. It was completely compiled in 1445 and published with metallic type in 1477.
It contains the contents of over 150 kinds of Korean and foreign medical documents at that time. In other words, it compiles most of the successes made in Korean and Oriental medical world by the early 15th century, divided into more than 90 kinds of diseases.
The book deals with theoretical problems such as ethic of medical activity, treatment principle of diseases, physiology and pathology of human body and etiology in its general summary and writes in detail all the clinical sections and the issues of physical build-up, health and longevity.
It gives excellent treatment and prevention methods created by Korean people and medical doctors of the Orient for many centuries, 50,000 in all.
Uibangryuchwi not only served as a precious foundation for the development of the Korean medical science but also was printed in foreign countries on several times.
The Japanese invaders took away all the original copies of Uibangryuchwi, the precious heritage of the nation, during the Imjin (1592) Patriotic War. But under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il who value the excellent traditions of the nation, Uibangryuchwi was translated in modern Korean language and published as a treasure of the times.
Rodong Sinmun Calls for Putting Revolutionary Slogan into Practice
Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- All party members and other working people should regard the slogan of the Workers' Party of Korea "Let us produce, study and live like the anti-Japanese guerrillas!" as guidelines for their struggle and life and more fully embody it in all fields of the revolution and construction and thus resolutely safeguard Korean-style socialism and build a great prosperous powerful nation of Juche on this land without fail.
Rodong Sinmun today makes this call in its editorial.
It says:
The above-said revolutionary slogan is a strategic slogan of the WPK which calls for preserving the revolutionary traditions of Mt. Paektu, the historic root and eternal cornerstone of the Korean revolution, in all fields of the revolution and construction and thus accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche.
This slogan has displayed its tremendous vitality in the socialist construction under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
This land has greeted the best days in the era of the WPK and witnessed a revolutionary turn in the people's ideological viewpoint, fighting spirit and way of living. It is a shining success made in the course of putting the slogan into practice.
The invincible vitality of the revolutionary traditions of the anti-Japanese struggle was strikingly demonstrated during the "Arduous March" through which the DPRK achieved a great victory under the banner of Songun.
Kim Jong Il wisely guided the army and people of the DPRK to weather out stern trials and difficulties in the past 1990s in the same spirit of making the "Arduous March" as that prevailed in the forests of Mt. Paektu during the anti-Japanese struggle. This served as a main source of strength which made it possible for the army and people of the DPRK to fully demonstrate the might of Korean-style socialism in the same spirit as displayed by the anti-Japanese revolutionary forerunners. This includes the spirit of devotedly defending the leader, the spirit of self-reliance, the spirit of overcoming difficulties and the spirit of revolutionary optimism.
Struggle for Cause of Socialism Urged
Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- Socialism is the invariable idea and revolutionary banner of the popular masses struggling for independence, states Rodong Sinmun in an article Wednesday.
The author of the article goes on:
Only when all countries and nations advance along the road of socialism can they achieve independent development, freed from all forms of domination and subjugation, and ensure a durable global peace and security guaranteeing the existence and development of humankind.
There can be turns and twists in the course of the development of socialism, but the orientation of the development of history can never change.
Socialism is as alive as ever in the hearts of humankind.
The historic Pyongyang Declaration "Let Us Defend and Advance the Cause of Socialism" was signed by 70 political parties when it was made public on April 20, 1992 and now the number has gone beyond 270.
The declaration serves as a revolutionary banner powerfully arousing the revolutionary political parties and peoples aspiring after socialism worldwide to the struggle for defending and advancing the socialist cause.
The reality of the DPRK where this cause is making a long drive bears the most eloquent testimony to the truth, immutability and invincibility of the idea of socialism.
Korean-style socialism centered on the popular masses is the social system under which the independence of man is fully materialized. Socialism is the life and soul of the people of the DPRK. They are advancing vigorously along the road of socialism under the uplifted banner of the Juche idea and Songun idea.

Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- Receptions were given and friendly meetings, photo exhibitions and film shows were held at the DPRK missions in China, Russia, Cuba, Laos, Mongolia, India, Pakistan, Singapore, Italy, Britain, Romania, Poland, Nigeria and Ethiopia and the DPRK permanent mission at the United Nations on September 6 and 7 on the occasion of the 59th founding anniversary of the DPRK.
On display in the venues of the functions were works of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and photos showing the immortal exploits performed by them in founding and developing the DPRK and photos introducing the might of Songun Korea.

The foreign minister of Mongolia warmly congratulated the Korean people on the 59th founding anniversary of the DPRK and wished them success in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
The general secretary of the Movement for Peace and Socialism of Italy said Korean socialism gives hope and confidence to progressive humankind.

Solidarity for Progress in South Korea Inaugurated
Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Progress in south Korea grouping various civic and public organizations and political parties of south Korea was reportedly inaugurated.
The inaugural ceremony was held in Seoul on September 16.
Speakers at the ceremony called upon all the people including workers, peasants, youths and students, women, intellectuals and religionists to dynamically struggle for people's liberation and national reunification by joining the Solidarity, an umbrella body for the progressive people's movement.
An inaugural declaration was read out at the ceremony.
Abolition of "NSL" Urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations of south Korea including the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, the Council for Supporting Prisoners of Conscience of the Family Movement for Realizing Democracy and the south Korean Council of Youth Organizations called a joint press conference in Seoul on Sept. 14, according to a news report.
They demanded that the presidential candidates running on the tickets of the Grand National Party and the New Democratic Party for Great Unity declare their will to repeal "the National Security Law."
The recommendation to the candidates read out at the press conference said "the spirit of 'By our nation itself' cannot but be regarded as seditious and rejected as long as there exists the 'security law', which defines fellow countrymen as the enemy and incriminates inter-Korean exchange and cooperation." It urged Ri Myong Bak from GNP to declare his will to abolish the evil law.
The candidates running on the ticket of the New Democratic Party for Great Unity also should give up their indecisive attitude and explicitly manifest their stand to totally repeal the NSL and all other legal provisions hostile to the north at the "National Assembly," it added.
At the end of the press conference the organizations handed the recommendation to the GNP and the New Democratic Party for Great Unity and staged a one-man demonstration and agitation activities in front of the "National Assembly."
