Pigyokjinchonroe
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The Korean people made and used powerful weapons to beat back aggressors from ancient times.
Pigyokjinchonroe (a time-bomb) displayed its might in the Imjin Patriotic War (1592-1598) including the battle for retaking the Kyongju Castle in September 1592.
Its name was derived from the fact that it was fired with a big fire and exploded with thunder-like sound.
A technician of gunpowder weapon Ri Jang Son manufactured the shell by improving Jinchonroe which had been used. There were three kinds of shells according to their sizes.
The shell was fired by the use of the Wangu Cannon. The shell-body was cast iron. The inside of the shell was charged with gunpowder, detonator and caltrops and put on a lid with a hole for fuse.
The detonator could regulate the blasting time. Such time-bomb was the first of its kinds in the world at that time.

It wakes from the winter sleep in March or April and makes nests under stones or between blades of grass or between stone and soil.

Valuable Commendation for Patriots
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- A number of schools and units are named after patriots who dedicated themselves to the country without hesitation and their busts have been erected in the different parts of the DPRK.
Before their busts, working people and school youth and children bear deep in their minds the true meaning of the aphorism of Kim Jong Il "The worth life dedicated to the country will live long along with the country".
A man wants that his name will remain in the memory of the fatherland and people forever. But it cannot come true on its own accord.
Eternal life is the valuable commendation and honors the fatherland and people give only to the persons who made a great contribution to the sacred cause for the country and the nation.
A man's worth of living depends on how he lives and dedicates himself for the fatherland and people.
A long life is not a valuable life, a comfortable life does not mean a happy life and a high position is not an honorable life.
Only true patriots who are possessed of ardent patriotism to devotedly strive and render all their hearts and soul for the fatherland and the revolution no matter what job they do in any position will enjoy a true life and be remembered by the people forever.
Thus the merits performed by the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters who laid down their lives for the liberation of the country, the hero-soldiers in the 1950s who defended the national sovereignty at the cost of their lives and the heroes of our times who showed a noble example and dedicated their valuable lives for firmly protecting the leader are conveyed long generation after generation.
The lives of such patriots constitute models of life and work to be patterned after by the Korean people who have turned out to build the great, prosperous and powerful socialist nation.
Holding High Banner of "By Our Nation Itself" Called for
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The idea of "By our nation itself" serves as an invincible banner for the movement for independent reunification as it fully reflects the desire of the Korean nation and the need of the era and clearly indicates the way of carving out the destiny of the nation.
Rodong Sinmun Friday says this in a signed article.
It goes on:
The idea of "By our nation itself" enshrined in the June 15 joint declaration is the avowed idea of independent reunification.
This idea instills strong consciousness of independence into the Koreans to make a hot wind of independent reunification rage in the land of three thousand ri. The trend of national cooperation is now growing stronger at a time when the desire for independence against the U.S. is rapidly mounting in south Korea, shaking the U.S. ruling system and getting the pro-U.S. sycophantic and traitorous forces there marginalized in the society. This development is the fruition of the above-said idea.
It is necessary to firmly maintain the principle and stand of national independence, the basic idea of "By our nation itself".
There are still forces that allow foreign forces to meddle in the issue related to the destiny of the nation or try to settle it in reliance upon them, away from the principle and stand of national independence even today when the history of the nation is guided by the idea of "By our nation itself." The Koreans should never tolerate this behavior, branding it as an act of treachery infringing upon the interests of the nation and spoiling the June 15 era of reunification.
The inter-Korean relations should be improved strictly on the principle of national independence, the idea of "By our nation itself" because this idea represents the idea of great national unity.
This idea calls on all Koreans to put the common interests of the nation above all and unite on this basis, irrespective of idea, ism, political view, religious belief and the interests of classes and social strata.
For a Korean to remain faithful to the idea of "By our nation itself" or not serves as a touchstone distinguishing patriotism from treachery, concludes the article.
Unity of World Independent Forces Called for
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- All the world independent forces should pool efforts to resolutely shatter any moves of the imperialists for domination and wage a powerful struggle to triumphantly advance the cause of global independence.
Rodong Sinmun Friday says this in a signed article.
The unity of the world independent forces provides a sure guarantee for averting aggression and war and successfully accomplishing the cause of global independence, the article notes, and goes on:
Independence against imperialism is the banner of unity which the people of all countries advocating independence should hold aloft.
The imperialists are the biggest hegemonic forces at present as they are forcing subjugation and submission on other countries and nations, not independence, and consider this as a means for their existence, accumulation of wealth and prosperity.
There can never be independence without an anti-imperialist struggle because it can be achieved only through the staunch struggle.
The anti-imperialist struggle is not a mission to be fulfilled by a country and nation. All countries and nations desirous of achieving and protecting independence should resolutely fight against the imperialist forces in close unity under the banner of independence against imperialism irrespective of population, territory, race, idea and political view.
Only when the people of all countries advocating independence firmly unite, can they successfully smash the imperialist forces' moves for interference and aggression.
The imperialists have become evermore undisguised in their interference and aggression since the outset of the new century. All this is based on their upperhand of strength and their strength-almighty policy.
The U.S. and other imperialist forces are working hard to divide the world into this or that category and sow the seeds of discord among countries in a bid to carry out aggression and war and dominate and subjugate other countries and nations with ease.
They are keen to rally those countries subservient to them as an allied force in an effort to dampen the progressive countries' spirit of independence against imperialism.
Only when the people of all countries in the world advocating independence are united closely as one, can they emerge independent forces against imperialism decisively superior to the imperialist forces, the article notes, adding that the unity of the independent forces against imperialism is an important and basic way for bringing imperialism to ruin and building a new independent world and a key to victory.
GNP's Corruption Denounced in S. Korea
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Progress of south Korea reportedly released a statement on October 26 in denunciation of the corruption committed by the Grand National Party of south Korea.
The statement accused lawmakers from the GNP of wining and dining at a bar in Taejon and committing even a sexual scandal on October 22. It assailed the tightly-cornered GNP gentries for making such poor excuses as painting the case as a "habitual practice".
It noted that the GNP ill-famed for committing sexual abuses and embezzling truck loads of money perpetrated immoral act and corruption again this time, touching off people's resentment.
The "Seoul organizing committee for the day of the 2007 all-people action" in a statement on the same day recalled that Ri Kun Jae, a stall keeper, committed suicide in Koyang, Kyonggi Province, in protest against the authorities' moves to violate people's right to existence and their violent crackdown upon them, stressing that the GNP is to chiefly blame for having driven stall keepers to death.
