Pyongyang, January 1 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received New Year's Cards from heads of party and state of different countries on the occasion of the New Year Juche 97 (2008).
Among them were Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and president of China, and Jiang Zemin, Fidel Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, president of the Council of State of Cuba and president of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, V. Floral Baskets Laid before Statues of Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, January 1 (KCNA) -- Floral baskets were placed before the statues of President Kim Il Sung standing in different parts of the country on the occasion of the New Year Juche 97 (2008).
Servicepersons, working people from all walks of life and school youth and children in Pyongyang and overseas compatriots staying in the homeland visited the statue of the President on Mansu Hill.
Seen before the statue was a floral basket from General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
Amid the playing of floral basket-laying music, baskets of flowers in the name of party, military and power organs, social bodies, ministries and national institutions, KPA units and institutions of different levels, industrial establishments, farms and schools and others in the city and bouquets and flowers were laid before the statue.
Also placed there was a floral basket in the name of the Pyongyang mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front.
Written on the ribbons of the floral baskets were such letters as "The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung will live forever," "The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung will always be with us" and "The great revolutionary exploits of the respected leader Generalissimo Kim Il Sung will be everlasting!"
All the visitors paid tribute to the statue of the President in humble reverence.
Meanwhile, floral baskets were placed before his statues in different parts of the city, including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Il Sung Military University, the Ministry of People's Security, the Korean Film Studio and the Pyongyang Schoolchildren's Palace.
KPA servicepersons, people and school youth and children across the country laid baskets of flowers, bouquets and flowers before the statues of the President in their residential areas to pay respects to him.
Homage Paid to Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, January 1 (KCNA) -- Senior party and state officials, the chairman of a friendly party and leading officials of party and power organs, public organizations, ministries and national institutions visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace on Tuesday to pay homage to President Kim Il Sung on the occasion of the New Year Juche 97 (2008).
Seen on either side of the statue of the President were flags of the Workers' Party of Korea and the Republic and colors of the Korean People's Army and honor guards of the three services of the KPA.

Amidst the playing of "Song of General Kim Il Sung" a floral basket in the joint name of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, the WPK Central Military Commission, the DPRK National Defence Commission, the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly and the DPRK Cabinet was placed before the statue.
Written on the ribbon of the floral basket were letters "The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung is immortal."
The participants paid high tribute to the statue.
That day anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters, officials of ministries and national institutions, KPA servicepersons and people from all walks of life visited the palace.
Commanding officers of the KPA also visited the palace that day to pay profound homage to the President.
The diplomatic corps, the military attaches corps and representatives of international organizations here visited the palace on the same day to pay homage to the President.
Pyongyang on New Year's Day
Pyongyang, January 1 (KCNA) -- The new year Juche 97 (2008) has broken in the DPRK.
The Korean people visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace to pay homage to President Kim Il Sung, the eternal sun of Juche, and laid floral baskets, bouquets and flowers before his statues across the country on the morning of the New Year's Day and offered new year's greeting to him with reverence.
Officers and men of the Korean People's Army, working people of all strata and school youth and children are visiting the statue of the President on Mansu Hill with a pride of having made a tremendous creation and shining feats in 2007. They are full of enthusiasm and optimism to glorify this year greeting the 60th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK as a year of historical turn which will go down in the history of the country.
Pyongyang is in a festive mood on the New Year's Day.
Set up here and there in the city are the word "We extend New Year's greeting to the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il", posters with the words "A Happy New Year" and "New Year Juche 97 (2008)" and various kinds of picture boards. Fluttering on the flagpoles are the national flags of the DPRK and red ones.
The Pyongyang Circus, the Kaeson Cinema House and other theatres, houses of culture and cinema houses in the capital are packed to the full and the parks and pleasure grounds are crowded with cheerful citizens.
Schoolchildren and kindergarteners are flying kites and spinning tops at Kim Il Sung Square, heightening the holiday atmosphere.
The public catering establishments serve special holiday dishes to working people.
Each family has prepared rice cake steamed on a laver of pine needles, glutinous rice-cake, green gram pancake and other holiday dishes inherent to the Koreans and is enjoying the holiday with yut, Korean chess and other folk amusement games.
The working people of all strata and school youth and children are hardening their resolution to rally closer around the headquarters of the revolution headed by Kim Jong Il and strive harder to achieve prosperity and development of the DPRK and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche, this year, too.
Congratulatory Letter to Kim Jong Il from C.C., AINDF
Pyongyang, January 1 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il was presented with a letter by the Central Committee of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front on Tuesday on the New Year 2008.
The letter said:
2007 was a year of proud victory, a year of great changes during which a new era of prosperity of Songun Korea was ushered in and great progress made in the efforts to accomplish the cause of national reunification. This was a shining fruition of your distinguished political caliber and indefatigable Songun leadership.
The historic summit and the October 4 declaration provided by you marked a particularly great event as it ushered in an era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity on this land.
Progressive mankind have highly praised you as a distinguished great man in the era of independence and a representative of justice in the 21st century as you declared final bankruptcy of the strong-arm policy of the imperialists with arms and made an immortal contribution to world peace and security.
It is the truth and firm faith we the people of the south enshrined once again that only when the Koreans follow only you single-mindedly can the country be reunified and they greet a new era of reunified great prosperous powerful nation.
The letter stressed that the C.C.,AINDF would stage an active struggle to implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and decisively frustrate the moves of anti-reunification forces at home and abroad in the idea of "By our nation itself" and continue to wage a dynamic struggle against the U.S. and war and for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea in order to put an end to the U.S. imperialists' colonial domination and military occupation, invariably holding aloft the banner of independence against the U.S.
Congratulatory Letter to Kim Jong Il from Chongryon Central Standing Committee
Pyongyang, January 1 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received a congratulatory letter from the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) on Jan. 1 on the occasion of the New Year Juche 97 (2008).
Last year was a year of great changes in which the 95th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung and your birthday were commemorated as great national jubilees and all the servicepersons and people were united single-mindedly around you to demonstrate to the world the authority of Juche Korea and the honor of the sun's nation, the letter said, and went on:
You are, indeed, the lodestar of creation and a legendary hero who are working such miracles as winning one victory after another in any adversity and ushering in a new spring of a great prosperous powerful nation in which the people lead a happy life envying nothing under the blue sky of their country.
The officials of Chongryon and compatriots in Japan in the congratulatory letter vowed to wage a vigorous patriotic movement of Chongryon, keeping pace with the people in the homeland who are turning out as one in the movement for the general advance to open wide the gate to the great prosperous powerful nation without fail with the 100th birth anniversary of the President as a momentum and glorify the 60th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK as a grand festival of victors.
The letter noted that they would positively join the nationwide reunification movement for the implementation of the historic October 4 declaration, holding higher the June 15 joint declaration and the spirit of "By our nation itself" as a banner of reunification to suit the new phase of the north-south relations, and conduct a brisk external work to build up stronger public opinion demanding Japan's liquidation of its past wrongs and the normalization of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Japan and provide a favorable environment for the patriotic activities of Chongryon.
DPRK's Important Days Observed in Different Countries
Pyongyang, January 1 (KCNA) -- Lectures were given in Romania and Tanzania and a lecture, a DPRK photo and handicraft exhibition and a film show took place in Brazil from Dec. 19 to 22 on the occasions of the 16th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's assumption of office as supreme commander of the Korean People's Army and the 90th birth anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk.
Displayed in the venue of the exhibition were famous works of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, books and photos showing the Songun revolutionary leadership feats performed by them and handicrafts showing the creative skills of the Korean people.
Several figures spoke at the functions.
Daniel Dediu, chairman of the Romanian Workers' Association, introduced the exploits performed by Kim Jong Il in leading the army, saying that his assumption of office as supreme commander of the KPA was a historic event of weighty significance in strengthening the KPA.
He stressed that the noble feats Kim Jong Suk performed by making distinguished contributions to the emancipation of the Korean women and the development of the women's movement will always be remembered by the people.
Francis F. Ryimo, chairman of the Tanzanian National Coordinating Committee of the Juche Idea Study Groups, praised Kim Jong Il for having trained the KPA into an iron-willed army equipped with unique strategy and tactics and powerful military equipment and strong in organization and discipline and into an invincible army which formed a perfect harmonious whole with the people.
The secretary general of the Army Command of Brazil, sincerely wished the army and the people of the DPRK greater success in the efforts to build a great prosperous powerful nation and achieve the cause of national reunification under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Pyongyang acoge el Ano Nuevo 2008
Pyongyang, 1 de enero (ATCC) -- Llego el Ano Nuevo 97 (2008) de la Era Juche.
Por la manana del primero de enero, el pueblo coreano rinde el primer homenaje del ano al Presidente Kim Il Sung, eterno Sol del Juche, en el Palacio Memorial Kumsusan y las estatuas de bronce de el erguidas en distintas localidades del pais, al pie de las cuales ya estan enfilados los cestos, ramos y ramitas de flores.
Los oficiales y soldados del Ejercito Popular de Corea, los trabajadores de distintos sectores, los jovenes y ninos escolares acudieron a la capitalina colina Mansu muy orgullosos de haber coronado el ano 2007 con grandes meritos de creacion y auge y con la firme determinacion de hacer brillar este ano del 60 aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica como un ano de cambios historicos que se registre indeleble en los anales de la Patria.
En todas partes de la capital saltan a la vista los carteles y afiches, en que se leen "Saludamos al gran Dirigente, camarada Kim Jong Il por el Ano Nuevo", "Feliz Ano Nuevo" y "Ano Nuevo 2008", y los tableros con diferentes dibujos.
Tambien en las astas flamean a todo viento las banderas de la Republica y las rojas.
Los teatros, casas culturales y cines capitalinos como el Circo de Pyongyang y el Cine de Kaeson estan llenos de la gente y en los parques y jardines de recreo repercuten las sonrisas de los ciudadanos.
En la Plaza Kim Il Sung se llevan a cabo la voladura de cometas y juegos de peonzas de los alumnos y menores de jardin infantil complementando el clima festivo.
En la red de servicios gastronomicos se venden los platos especiales para la fiesta mientras en los hogares capitalinos se preparan Songphyon (pastel de harina de arroz con relleno), Chaltok (pastel de harina de arroz glutinoso) y tortilla de lenteja verde, entre otros alimentos.
@Ademas, en esta fiesta nunca faltan los juegos folcloricos como Yut y ajedrez.
Este dia, los capitalinos redoblan su voluntad de luchar con tenacidad en el nuevo ano tambien por lograr la prosperidad de la RPDC y completar la causa revolucionaria del Juche unidos compactamente en torno a la Direccion de la Revolucion encabezada por el Dirigente Kim Jong Il.
