Kim Jong Il Goes round Programs Displayed at National Program Contest and Exhibition
Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il went round programs displayed at the 18th national program contest and exhibition.
He was greeted on the spot by Paek Chon Ho, vice-president of the State Academy of Sciences, Ryu Sun Ryol, rector of the College of Information Science and Technology of Kim Chaek University of Technology, and officials concerned.
Displayed there were many programs developed by universities including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology and the University of Science, the Pyongyang Information Centre, the Central Scientific and Technological Information Agency and other institutes.
Being briefed on the contest and exhibition, he looked round exhibits for a long while to acquaint himself in detail with the performance of programs and their development.
Watching the programs that have reached a world level, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that scientists and technicians have developed a lot of new and efficient programs conducive to developing the nationfs programming technology and carrying out its technical revolution. He highly appreciated their successes and extended warm greetings to all the participants.
Programming technology has made rapid progress in a brief span of time thanks to the great creative enthusiasm and ingenuity of our scientists and technicians intensely loyal to the party and the revolution, he said, adding that this signal success is a striking demonstration of the validity and great vitality of the party's line of attaching importance to science and technology and a shining fruition of the primary attention paid to the work for training computer talents in particular.
It is of weighty importance to develop the programming technology as required by the age of science and technology and the age of computer, he noted, setting forth highly important tasks which would serve as guidelines for further developing the programming technology.
He said that computer, the basis of modern science and technology, has now developed to be an all-purpose information processing device capable of processing a huge volume of information, thus becoming an indispensable means for peoplefs work and life.
Computer institutes and training centres have been built in different parts of the country and many able computer experts and technicians have been trained under the leadership of the party, he said, noting that the solid material and technological foundation that has been laid to develop computer technology by leaps and bounds constitutes a precious asset for accelerating the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
Underscoring the need to continue directing big efforts to the development of computer technology as it plays an important role in developing and using ultra-modern science and technology, he stressed that the state should push ahead with this work in a coordinated manner under a long-term plan and more thoroughly establish the system for training reserves for the purpose of strengthening technological forces and reinforcing the material means. He also called on the educational institutions to conduct effective computer education among students from their early years.
If programming technology is to pay off in making the national economy more Juche-oriented, modern and scientific, it is necessary to advance the computer industry of our style and develop many more programs urgently required by us, he said.
Koreans can go ahead of others in the computer field, too, as they are clever and intelligent, he noted, expressing great expectation and belief that all fields and units would bring about a new turn in developing the programming technology in order to put into practice the plan and intention of the party to put the nationfs science and technology on a world level in the shortest span of time.
He met with the scientists and technicians who have contributed to developing computer technology, highly appreciated their feats and had a photo session with them.
He was accompanied by Choe Thae Bok and Kim Ki Nam, secretaries of the Central Committee of the WPK, Ri Kwang Ho and Jang Song Thaek, its department directors, and Ju Kyu Chang, its first vice department director.
Best Players and Coaches of Taekwon-Do for 2007 Selected
Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- Best players and coaches of Taekwon-Do for Juche 96 (2007) were selected in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The best players are: Jegal Un, player of the National Team under the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee, who bagged five gold medals and was awarded the women's individual all-round cup at the 15th Taekwon-Do World Championships; Pak Chung Song, player of the same team, who placed first in the men's individual pattern competition (fourth grade) and won men's individual technical prize cup at the same championships; Chae Tok Song, player of the North Hwanghae Provincial Taekwon-Do Group, who finished the winner and won the technical prize at the Second National All-round Taekwon-Do Contest for September 10 Prize; and Ri Hyang, player of the Pyongyang City Taekwon-Do Group, who emerged the winner and won the technical prize at the same contest.
The best coaches are: Hwang Mi Yong, chief coach, and Han Chung Il, coach, of the National Team under the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee, Ri Kwang Hyok, coach of the North Hwanghae Provincial Taekwon-Do Group, and Kim Yong Sun, chief coach of the Pyongyang City Taekwon-Do Group.
Player Jegal Un and coach Han Chung Il of the National Team under the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee were selected as best player and coach again in 2007 following 2006.
New Postage Stamps Issued
Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- Seven kinds of postage stamps representing the idea of the joint New Year editorial have been issued in the DPRK.
Printed on the top of the stamps are the words " Joint Editorial-2008" and the militant slogan "Glorify This Year of the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the DPRK as a Year of Historical Turn Which Will Go Down in the History of the Country" to be held aloft by the Korean people this year.
Featured in them are words and pictures emphasizing that the whole Party, the entire army and all the people should unite close around the headquarters of the revolution, the entire people should live and work in a revolutionary and militant manner, full of confidence and optimism, and the Korean People's Army should develop in depth the movement to win the title of O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment so as to powerfully demonstrate the grand sight of the strong revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu.
Also reflected in the stamps are the idea of the joint editorial on bending decisive efforts to shore up the basic industries, the vanguard sectors of the national economy and making this year a fruitful and delightful year which will see a substantial turn in improving the people's standard of living and on all compatriots in the north and the south and abroad opening up a new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity by united efforts of the Korean nation under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration.
Guatemalan President on Relations with DPRK
Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- President of Guatemala Albaro Colom on January 14 met with DPRK Ambassador to his country So Jae Myong who participated in the presidential inaugural ceremony as special envoy of the DPRK government.
At the meeting he said that he is happy to note that Guatemala has established diplomatic ties with the DPRK. And he expressed the will to strive to develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two governments and the two peoples.
Japan Assailed for Seeking "Triangular Cooperation Mechanism for Pressure"
Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- The Japanese ruling quarters are now crying out for "boosting the solidarity among Japan, the U.S. and south Korea" as evidenced by the hectic junkets made by them to their "allies" in a bid to find a package solution to the abduction issue and the nuclear issue through a "triangular cooperation mechanism for pressure."
This comes under fire by a signed commentary of Rodong Sinmun Monday.
It observes: Japan seems to pin a great hope on the above-said mechanism in achieving its sinister political aim. This is, however, nothing but the way of thinking of a bat-blind person who has neither political sense nor judgment.
The above-said cooperation mechanism had been sought by its master the U.S. as early as in the 1980s only to meet bitter frustration.
It is a ridiculous and foolish daydream for Japan to try to build the above-mentioned mechanism, taking advantage of the changed political situation in south Korea, in a bid to pressurize someone and achieve its sinister political aim. This only betrays Japanfs ignorance of the DPRK, diplomatic inability and anachronistic way of thinking.
There is another point in Japanfs policy and behavior that draws a serious attention.
Japan is persistently seeking its Self-Defence Forcesf advance and operation overseas under the pretext of "cooperation in the U.S. war on terror." This is eloquently proved by the enactment of the new special anti-terrorism law. The Japanese reactionaries have become so emboldened as to make no scruple of doing anything they like. As seen above, their frantic militaristic moves for reinvasion have reached an extremely dangerous stage.
Should these moves be connived at and overlooked, it would create a catastrophic situation and bring a horrible disaster to the world. Japan's moves to build such mechanism are closely related to its reactionaries' scenario for militaristic reinvasion.
Japan would be well advised to drop its daydream and stop doing such foolish an act as dropping an axe on its own foot.
Rodong Sinmun on National Independence
Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- National independence is a key to solving the question of national reunification and serves as lifeline in the cause of reunifying the country.
Rodong Sinmun Monday stresses this in a signed article.
Independence is not only the purpose but also the fundamental principle of the struggle for national reunification, the article says, and goes on:
Without the principle and stand of national independence is it impossible to expect the realization of the national reunification, the problem related to the destiny of the Korean nation. National reunification precisely means independence and vice versa.
The history of the movement for national reunification proves eloquently that national independence is the main stand that should be maintained by the Koreans.
The more persistently the foreign forces and their followers have resorted to intervention moves and treacherous dependence on outsiders, the more steadfastly and dynamically the Party and government of the DPRK have maintained the stand of independence and advanced the national reunification movement along the road of national independence.
The vitality and might of national independence is being more strikingly displayed in the June 15 era of reunification in which the independent reunification movement of the Korean nation has been put on a new high stage of history.
The Koreans have keenly realized through history and reality that national independence serves as the lifeline of the national reunification movement and the only way for reunification and survival of the nation is to firmly keep the independent stand.
Today it is the unshakable determination and will of the Korean nation to advance toward the independent reunification and peace and prosperity invariably holding the banner of "By our nation itself".

Stop to Suppression of Demos Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Progress of south Korea reportedly issued a commentary on Jan. 15 demanding that the police authorities immediately cancel their measure against meetings and demonstrations, the step causing violent crisis only.
Condemning the current step, taken and announced by the police authorities under the pretext of "removing illegal and violent demonstrations and traffic confusion," as a foolish act, the commentary said: If the police authorities truly want to keep the law and order in society, they should drop their willful judgment intended to disallow meeting and demonstration, the basic rights of the people, and incriminate all the participants in them.
If they continue blocking the struggle of the people to defend their vital rights, they will face a stronger resistance, the commentary warned.
DPRK's Important Days to Be Observed in South Africa
Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- The South African preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun and February 16 was inaugurated with due ceremony in Mfumalanga Province on Jan. 13.
Displayed in the venue of the inaugural ceremony were works of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and books and photos showing the greatness of the Songun politics and the advantages of the Korean socialist system.
At the ceremony the chairman of the Mfumalanga Provincial Committee of the South African Communist Party was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.
The preparatory committee set the days up to April 30 as a period of commemoration and celebration and decided to hold various political and cultural events including seminar, lecture, friendly meeting, photo exhibition and film show.
DPRK's Joint New Year Editorial Hailed in Pakistan and Peru
Pyongyang, January 21 (KCNA) -- A reading session and a round-table talk on the DPRK's joint New Year editorial were held in Pakistan and Peru between Jan. 5 and 7.
Asadulla Khan, chairman of the Karachi Branch of the Pakistan-Korea Friendship Association, noted that the joint New Year editorial called upon the Korean people to glorify 2008 marking the 60th birthday of the DPRK as a year of historic turn which will go down in the history of the country. And he expressed belief that the Korean people would achieve greater success in future, too.
Mohammad Aslam Nagi, secretary general of the Lahore Branch of the Pakistan-Korea Friendship Association, and M. Z. Maulvi, general secretary of the Pakistan Organization for Afro-Asian People's Solidarity, recalled that the Korean people made brilliant successes in building a great prosperous powerful nation under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il last year.

CRPP denuncia a EE.UU. por su aumento de fuerzas aereas
Pyongyang, 21 de enero (ATCC) -- El portavoz del Comite por la Reunificacion Pacifica de la Patria (CRPP) respondio el dia 19 a las preguntas formuladas por un reportero de la Agencia Telegrafica Central de Corea en relacion con que en estos momentos Estados Unidos se desespera para aumentar las fuerzas armadas aereas en el suelo surcoreano y en el contorno de la Peninsula Coreana al portar el rotulo de la "adaptacion al mismo terreno" y la realizacion de la "flexibilidad estrategica".
EE.UU. traslado de su territorio a su base aerea en Kunsan de la provincia de Jolla del Norte mas de 300 efectivos y 20 cazabombarderos "F-16" de la 79a escuadrilla del 20o cuerpo de la 9a fuerza aerea.
Tales maniobras tendentes a realizar la intencion de aplastar militarmente a la RPDC devienen un imperdonable desafio a la aspiracion de toda la nacion y la humanidad a la paz y la estabilidad de la Peninsula Coreana y una aventurera provocacion que lleva la situacion a la confrontacion militar y al borde de la guerra.
Como es conocido por todos, en la Peninsula Coreana se promueve el proceso de la desnuclearizacion segun el acuerdo de las conversaciones a 6 bandas y se abre una nueva epoca para el desarrollo de las relaciones Norte-Sur, la paz y la prosperidad.
Sin embargo, EE.UU. emplaza en el suelo surcoreano y su contorno enormes fuerzas aereas y desarrolla incesantemente las maniobras belicas de agresion al Norte de Corea. Esto demuestra evidentemente quien es el autor que impide la solucion pacifica del problema nuclear de la Peninsula Coreana, agrava la tension y acarrea el nubarron de la guerra.
La realidad prueba que la "paz" y el "dialogo" de que habla EE.UU. no pasan de ser una artimana enganosa para inducir en error la opinion interna y externa y que es invariable su intencion agresiva de aplastar por la fuerza a la RPDC.
Rodong Sinmun rechaza intento de "cooperacion de presion tripartita"
Pyongyang, 21 de enero (ATCC) -- En los ultimos dias, el circulo de poder de Japon se propone a dar una solucion global al problema nuclear y al del secuestro mediante la "cooperacion tripartita" en la campana de presion a la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea.
@Para este fin, realiza una gira por los paises "aliados" en busca del apoyo al "fortalecimiento de la solidaridad entre Japon, EE.UU. y el Sur de Corea".
@Al publicar este lunes un comentario individual, el diario Rodong Sinmun critica que esa conducta de Japon parte del modo de pensar de los faltos de vision politica.
Parece que ese pais isleno cifra una demasiada esperanza en esa "cooperacion de presion tripartita" para alcanzar sus malsanos objetivos politicos, ironizo el comentarista y prosiguio:
La misma "cooperacion" propulsada ya en la decada de 1980 por Estados Unidos, superior de Japon, resulto fracasada totalmente.
Sin embargo, Japon quiere resucitarla aprovechando el cambio de la situacion politica en el Sur de Corea.
@Este plan tan ridiculo deviene una expresion de la ignorancia supina, la incapacidad diplomatica y la anacronica vision de los japoneses en cuanto a la RPDC.
Otro punto alarmante en la politica y acciones de Japon es la pretension de enviar a ultramar a las "fuerzas de autodefensa" y posibilitar sus operaciones militares bajo el pretexto de "colaborar con la guerra antiterrorista" lanzada por EE.UU.
@Una muestra evidente de ello es la elaboracion de la nueva "ley de medidas especiales frente al terrorismo".
Como se ve, la osadia de los reaccionarios japoneses es tan grande que quieren hacer todo lo que les de la gana.
@Si se permiten las maniobras militaristas de ellos enloquecidos por tomar de nuevo el camino de agresion, se generara una situacion catastrofica y el mundo sufrira un tremendo desastre.
La supuesta "cooperacion de presion tripartita" esta vinculada estrechadamente con ese intento militarista.
Seria aconsejable que Japon deje esa locura que lo llevara a la autodestruccion.
