DPRK-U.S. Working Contact Made
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the U.S. Department of State visited Pyongyang from January 31 through February 2.
Issues of concern in implementing the October 3 agreement made at the six-party talks were discussed at the DPRK-U.S. working contact during its visit.
The discussion took place in an earnest and practical atmosphere.
French Foreign Ministry Delegation Sojourns in DPRK
Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the French Foreign Ministry visited the DPRK from Jan. 29 to Feb. 2.
During its visit the delegation exchanged views with relevant organs including the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture on the issue of developing the relations between the two countries and other matters of mutual concern. It also visited major objects and cultural relics in Pyongyang and Kaesong.
Greetings to Sri Lankan President
Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, Sunday sent a message of greetings to Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its independence.
The message sincerely wished the president and people of Sri Lanka greater success in the work to build new Sri Lanka by achieving the stability and unity of the country and carrying out the 10-year plan for development and the president good health and happiness.

Kim Il Sung's Great Feats for National Liberation
Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung went across the River Amnok via the Phophyong Ferry 83 years ago today with a firm pledge to liberate the ruined country.
The then Phophyong in the northern tip of Korea is a historical place associated with the President's 250-mile journey for learning and 250-mile journey for national liberation.
With a noble intention that a man must have a good knowledge of Korea to win her back, he came to Mangyongdae, his native place, covering the 250-mile journey for learning on foot at the age of 11.
He, who cultivated the lofty patriotic aim to liberate the country witnessing the miserable lot of the people trodden by the Japanese imperialists in the homeland, he embarked upon the 250-mile journey for national liberation. Ten-odd days after he left Mangyongdae, he arrived at the Phophyong Ferry on Feb. 3, Juche 14 (1925).
Singing the Song of the River Amnok, he firmly pledged himself not to come back before he won the independence of Korea.
True to the pledge he made at the Phophyong Ferry, he waged the 20-year-long fierce anti-Japanese war, thus defeating the brutal Japanese imperialists and achieving the liberation of the country.
After the liberation of the country, he accomplished the historic cause of founding the Party, state and army, defended the dignity and sovereignty of the nation with credit in the three-year-long Fatherland Liberation War and led various stages of socialist construction work to a brilliant victory to perform immortal exploits which will go down in the history of the country.
There are so many countries and leaders in the world. But they have never seen such a peerlessly great man who dedicated his whole life to the struggle for materializing his lofty patriotic oath he took in his teens.
The pledge of the President on the historical day guarantees the Korean people's happiness of today and the rosy morrow of the Juche-oriented socialist Korea.
Posters on Kimjongilia Festival Produced
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- Posters on the 12th Kimjongilia Festival to be held on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il have been produced.
Seen in the upper part of the posters are letters "Congratulations on February 16" and the logo of the festival and in their lower part letters "The 12th Kimjongilia Festival" and the period of the festival.
Depicted in the center of the poster against the background of Mt. Paektu, a holy mountain of the revolution, is the immortal flower in full bloom. It indicates that this time, too, an endless stream of people will visit the venue of the festival of flowers of the sun which will present fantastic scenery and grasp once again the greatness of the leader.
There is also a poster depicting Jong Il Peak towering high in the snow-covered deep forest and red Kimjongilias in full bloom.
Rodong Sinmun Calls for Eternally Glorifying WPK's Songun Revolutionary Exploits

Smashing Imperialists' Anti-Socialist Moves Called for
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- The desperate moves of the imperialists and reactionaries against socialism are bound to fail.
Rodong Sinmun today says this in a by-lined article.

Socialism is the ideal of humankind and it is law governing the development of history for it to aspire after socialism and independence.
To smash any criminal moves of the imperialists and reactionaries is an urgent task common to the progressives in their struggle to defend and advance socialism.
What is of weighty importance in frustrating the imperialists' moves against socialism is for all revolutionary parties and peoples to boost support and solidarity with socialist countries in unity.
The unity and solidarity among revolutionary parties should be based on the socialist idea and independence.
What is important in defending and advancing the socialist cause is to steadfastly maintain the basic principle of socialism.

Japanese Reactionaries' Suppression of Chongryon Assailed
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- On January 21 the Japanese police authorities set in motion two large buses and at least 90 armed policemen to search the office of the Korean Kyoto Prefectural Commercial Association in Japan for five hours. The gangsters searched the Santan branch office in Kyoto Prefecture of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), regional commercial association and houses of its officials and arrested two officials of the association. Such search continued next day.
Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a commentary terms it another politically motivated provocation and a brutal hostile act against the DPRK and Chongryon which should not be overlooked.
The case brought up by them this time is nothing but a case booked by the Japanese prosecution late in November last year on the charge of the violation of the "law on taxation" only to see it peter out as it lacked any legal ground and was politically motivated to serve their sinister purpose, the commentary says, and goes on:
Through this they sought to stir up anti-DPRK sentiment at home and abroad in a bid to create bitterness towards the DPRK and tear Korean workers in commerce in Japan away from Chongryon, destroy its financial foundation and bring it down in the end.
Their disturbing moves against the DPRK and Chongryon are only adding to the crimes committed by Japan against the Korean nation. They will certainly have to pay dearly for these crimes.
Rally for Peace and Disarmament Held in S. Korea
Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification, an organization for the movement for peace against war of south Korea, reportedly held the 75th rally for peace and disarmament before the building of the "Ministry of National Defense" on Jan. 28.
At the rally speakers called for making this year a year for getting a peace agreement concluded and a year for achieving disarmament. They stressed the need to destroy the frame of "alliance" for aggression and abrogate the "agreement" on sharing the funds for the upkeep of the U.S. forces in south Korea.
At the end of the rally the participants staged a demonstration, shouting slogans calling for disarmament. Then they thrust a letter of protest to the minister of "National Defense".
The letter of protest said that the "2020 reform for national defense" is really helpful to the U.S., accusing the military authorities of scheming to increase military expenditure to purchase latest attack weapons to this end.
It noted that the recent attempt of the "Ministry of National Defense" to partake in the U.S.-led missile defense system and "proliferation security initiative of weapons of mass destruction" is an act of bringing more economic difficulties to the people and driving inter-Korean relations into bankruptcy.
It urged the military authorities to cancel the plan for building overseas standing forces and sincerely implement the military agreement made with the north.
S. Korean Peasants Denounce Authorities' Moves to Bring Agriculture to Ruin
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- At least 10,000 members of 145 peasant organizations in south Korea including the Consultative Council of Peasant Organizations and the Federation of Peasants Associations reportedly held a meeting in Seoul on Jan. 28 to denounce the moves of the south Korean authorities to bring agriculture to ruin.
Speakers at the meeting accused the south Korean authorities of working hard to pass the FTA with the U.S. through the "National Assembly" (NA). They termed this an act to deprive the peasants of means of their living and put agriculture to bankruptcy.
A resolution read out at the meeting demanded the authorities immediately stop their moves to get the NA's ratification of the bill on the south Korea-U.S. FTA.
Then the participants burned boards reading "south Korea-U.S. FTA" and other slogan boards in token of their protest.
At the end of the meeting the peasants staged a demonstration towards the building of the NA.
Peasant organizations launched a sit-in strike inside tents before the building of the NA in protest against the authorities' anti-agricultural policy on Jan. 23.
Kim Jong Il's Work Published in Italy
Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il's famous work "The Juche Philosophy Is an Original Revolutionary Philosophy" was brought out in booklet by the Movement for Peace and Socialism of Italy on Jan. 26.
The work, published on July 26, Juche 85(1996), gives a scientific analysis of the limitations of the times the preceding philosophy was enunciated and the originality of the Juche philosophy. It also clarifies the idea that the Juche philosophy is the revolutionary philosophy and political philosophy of the Workers' Party of Korea and the principled matters arising in studying, explaining and disseminating the Juche philosophy.
February Holiday Observed in Different Countries
Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- A reading session and a briefing on Kim Jong Il's famous work "On Preserving the Juche Character and National Character of the Revolution and Construction" and a film show were held in Grenada, and lecture, Korean book, photo and handicraft exhibition, film show and friendly meeting in South Africa, Brazil and Tunisia in the period from Jan. 15 to 23 on the occasion of his birthday.
The participants in the film shows watched Korean films including "Respected Comrade Kim Jong Il Is a Great Thinker and Theoretician" and "They Are Together on the Way of the Great Songun Leadership."
Several figures made speeches at the functions.
The chairman of the Morris Bishop October 19 Martyrs Organization of Grenada said that the Songun policy pursued by Kim Jong Il is the most just political mode under the present situation where the U.S. arbitrary practices have become all the more pronounced day by day.
A South African figure stressed that the reality of the DPRK building a great, prosperous and powerful country while resolutely foiling the high-handed and arbitrary practices of the U.S. styling itself the world's "only superpower", clearly proves that the Songun policy pursued by Kim Jong Il serves as an all-powerful treasured sword.
The chief of the general staff of the Brazilian naval command said that in the DPRK the army and people strengthen the great army-people unity, having close ties of kinship between them and giving full play to the traits of supporting and helping each other.
The vice-chairman of the Tunisia-Korea Friendship Association affirmed that the Korean people will certainly emerge victorious in their struggle to open wide the gate to a great, prosperous and powerful country in 2012 marking the 100th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.
Information Bulletin Issued by Mexican Institute for Study of Juche Idea
Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- The Mexican Institute for the Study of the Juche Idea issued information bulletin under the title "Juche Idea and Songun Politics" on Jan. 23 on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il. It carried a photo of his revolutionary activities.
The bulletin in an article said that today the Songun politics pursued in socialist Korea is widely known in the world as the most powerful and successful political mode in the present times and its scientific accuracy, originality and great vitality would be unthinkable without the Juche idea publicly recognized as the guiding idea of the human cause of independence.
The victory of the popular masses' revolutionary cause and independence, sovereignty and prosperity of the country and the nation are guaranteed by arms--this is the revolutionary principle of Juche which is indicated by the Juche idea and the truth of which is proved by history, and a law, it noted, adding this principle is embodied in the Songun idea and Songun politics.
The Songun politics along with the Juche idea, the great guiding idea in the era of independence, will demonstrate its might forever as an ever-victorious weapon for the cause of independence against imperialism, it stressed.
DPRK's Greatest Holidays to Be Commemorated in Nepal
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- A Nepalese national preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun and February 16 and the 60th founding anniversary of the DPRK was formed with due ceremony in Katmandu on Jan. 27.
At the ceremony the Nepalese foreign minister was elected honorary chairman of the preparatory committee and the minister of Information and Communications chairman of the preparatory committee.
The preparatory committee decided to organize colorful functions praising the undying feats of the peerlessly great persons, warmly hail the successes made by the Korean people in building a great prosperous and powerful nation and make a wide media publicity of them in the period from Jan. 27 to Sep. 10.
Korean Art Exhibition Opens in Lithuania
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- A Korean art exhibition was opened at the Lithuanian National Museum on Jan. 24.
Displayed in the venue of the exhibition were Korean paintings and oil-paintings showing the old home of Kim Jong Il in the secret camp in Mt. Paektu, the beautiful landscape of Songun Korea, the life of the Korean people full of revolutionary optimism and beautiful manners and customs peculiar to the resourceful and talented Korean nation.
Present at the opening ceremony were figures from various circles including the first deputy speaker of the Lithuanian parliament and the deputy secretary of state for the Foreign Ministry and other working people.
Speeches were made there.
The exhibition will last till early in April.

Creados afiches del XII Festival de Kimjongilias
Pyongyang, 2 de febrero (ATCC) -- Fueron creados los afiches de la duodecima edicion del Festival de Kimjongilias que se inaugurara con motivo del 16 de febrero (cumpleanos del Dirigente Kim Jong Il).
En la parte superior de las pancartas esta dibujada la frase "En celebracion del 16 de febrero" y la insignia del festival y en la parte abajo, la frase "El XII Festival de Kimjongilias" y el periodo de este evento.
El afiche, que tiene en su centro una Kimjongilia florecida de lleno delante del Paektu, sagrado monte de la revolucion, insinua que los visitantes al festival a coronarse de mil maravillas en esta edicion tambien con estas flores del Sol volveran a sentir una vez mas la noble personalidad del Dirigente Kim Jong Il.
En otra pancarta saltan a la vista las Kimjongilias tan rojas en torno al pico Jongil erigido en medio de una selva milenaria encubierta de nieve.
Nace comite preparatorio nacional de Nepal para efemerides coreanas
Pyongyang, 2 de febrero (ATCC) -- Quedo constituido el 27 de enero en Katmandu el Comite Preparatorio Nacional de Nepal para el Dia del Sol (15 de abril, cumpleanos del Presidente Kim Il Sung), el 16 de febrero (cumpleanos del Dirigente Kim Jong Il) y el aniversario 60 de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea.
Como presidente honorario y presidente de esa entidad fueron electos el canciller y el ministro de Informacion y Comunicaciones, respectivamente.
El comite naciente decidio organizar del 27 de enero al 10 de septiembre variadas actividades para elogiar las hazanas inmortales de los grandes hombres arriba mencionados, apoyar activamente los exitos logrados por el pueblo coreano en la construccion de una gran potencia prospera y propagarlos ampliamente a traves de las publicaciones.
Lituania: montada galeria coreana
Pyongyang, 2 de febrero (ATCC) -- Quedo inaugurada el 24 de enero en el Museo Nacional de Lituania una exposicion de bellas artes de Corea.
En la sede de esa galeria fueron exhibidas las pinturas al estilo coreano y al oleo que muestran la casa natal del Dirigente Kim Jong Il en el campamento secreto del monte Paektu, el hermoso paisaje de la Corea del Songun (priorizacion militar), la vida del pueblo coreano lleno de optimismo revolucionario y las bellas costumbres de la nacion coreana muy inteligente y talentosa.
En la ceremonia de inauguracion estuvieron presentes el primer vicepresidente del parlamento, el subsecretario de Estado del MINREX y otras personalidades y masas de diferentes sectores.
En la ocasion hubo discursos.
La exhibicion se extendera hasta principios de abril.
