12th Kimjongilia Festival Opens
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- The 12th Kimjongilia festival opened with splendor here Wednesday.
Seen in the venue of the festival is a computer-aided diorama "Blizzard on Mt. Paektu" portraying Kim Jong Il standing on Mt. Paektu, the holy mountain of the revolution.
Put on display are tens of thousands of potted Kimjongilias contributed with sincerity by more than 100 units including armed forces organs, ministries and national institutions, servicepersons of the Korean People's Army, people from all walks of life and school youth and children, the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), the General Association of Koreans in China, and other overseas Koreans organizations, overseas Koreans, south Koreans, diplomatic missions of various countries, the EU and international organizations here, foreign friendship and public organizations, enterprises and figures and Chinese residents in the DPRK.
The opening ceremony held at the Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Exhibition was attended by Choe Thae Bok, Yang Hyong Sop and officials concerned, officials of ministries, national institutions, working people's organizations and units which contributed the flowers of the sun to the festival and others.
Also present were overseas Koreans congratulatory groups including a group of Koreans in Japan led by Nam Sung U, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, on a visit to the socialist homeland.
Kim Pyong Hun, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Unions of Literature and the Arts of Korea, in an opening address said that the festival of immortal flower, an annual event, is an expression of the ardent reverence of the army and people of the DPRK and progressive humankind for Kim Jong Il who has led the Songun revolution to victory with his outstanding idea and extraordinary leadership to usher in the great heyday of Kim Il Sung's Korea.
Foreign Diplomats Visit Venue of Kimjongilia Festival
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- Diplomatic envoys and representatives of international organizations here visited the venue of the 12th Kimjongilia festival on Feb. 13 on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
The guests looked round the venue of the festival, a veritable sea of Kimjongilias in full bloom.
At the end of the visit, they made entries in the visitor's book.
Kimjongilia in Full Bloom Worldwide
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- Now Kimjongilia, the immortal flower, is in full bloom on the five continents of the world, catching the admiration of humankind with its charm.
Kimjongilia was brought into the world in February Juche 77 (1988) by a Japanese horticulturist who made painstaking efforts to convey the august name of the peerlessly great man praised by all peoples down through generations by representing it in the most beautiful and rare flower in the world.
The news of its birth delighted progressives all over the world and it spread rapidly to many countries in a few years.
Entering the 1990s, Kimjongilia associations were formed and Kimjongilia greenhouses were built in various countries so that the dissemination of the immortal flower assumed a broader scale around the world in an organized manner.
The formation of the North European Kimjongilia Association in Sweden in 1995 was followed by the appearance of the Mongolian Kimjongilia Association in 1997, the Japanese Kimjongilia Fanciers Society in 1998 and the American Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Association in the United States in 2004.
In China Kimjongilia greenhouses made their appearance in such cities as Dandong, Shenyang and Dalian and bases were laid out for the cultivation and dissemination of tens of thousands of Kimjongilia plants.
Heated fervor for the dissemination of the immortal flower swept the world with the successful cultivation of Kimjongilia in French and German botanical gardens.
The work for developing its cultivating technique got into full stride. In this course, Chinese and German botanists undertook joint researches with technicians of the DPRK for developing the technique, thus opening up a prospect for introducing ultra-modern bioengineering into the growth of the flower. Meanwhile, brisk activities were launched by horticultural organizations and big horticultural enterprises in various countries to pitch into large-scale joint ventures for tissue culture and joint undertakings including the construction of greenhouses in order to fully meet the international demand for Kimjongilia.
Over the last 20 years visitors from more than 100 countries took away over 96,000 flowers and granular roots of Kimjongilia and went about busily cultivating and propagating them. Today the immortal flower is in bloom in 70-odd countries.
Kimjongilia was awarded special prize and gold medal, the top "Grand" prix as well as diploma, gold prize and first prize at flower exhibitions and horticultural expositions such as the 12th World Flower Exhibition, the 1999 Kunming International Horticultural Exposition and the International Horticultural Exposition, 2006, Shenyang of China.
Officially registered at the the International Society for Horticultural Science as new species of the begonia family, Kimjongilia, the flower of the sun, became to shine ever brighter in the world floricultural circles.
The immortal flower will come into fuller blossom across the world amid the deepest respect and reverence of humankind for Kim Jong Il.
Art Performance Given to Celebrate February 16
Samjiyon, February 13 (KCNA) -- The art performance titled "Glory to General" was given by the Korean People's Army Song and Dance Ensemble in Ryanggang Province on Feb. 13 to celebrate February 16, the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
It was enjoyed by senior officials of the party, the army and the state, officials of party and armed forces organs, ministries, national institutions and working people's organizations, officials of party and power bodies in local areas, servicepersons of the Korean People's Army and working people.

February Holiday Celebrated by Working People's Organizations
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- Meetings and an oath-taking meeting were held by working people's organizations on Tuesday on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
Reporters and speakers at the meetings held by the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea and the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea said that the birth of Kim Jong Il signified a great fortune of the nation and an auspicious event in the human history as it promised a bright future of the revolutionary cause of Juche.
Recalling that born in Mt. Military Attaches Corps Visit Oun Revolutionary Site
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- The military attaches corps here visited the Oun revolutionary site on Wednesday on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
While being briefed on the fact that Kim Jong Il conducted energetic ideological, theoretical and military activities in Juche 51 (1962) when he was participating in the military camping there, the guests looked round historic materials, historic buildings and drill grounds.

Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received a floral basket from Mahmoud Abbas, chief of the Palestinian National Authority, on the occasion of his birthday.

Reception Given at Syrian Embassy
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- Muhammad Adib Al Hani, Syrian charge d' affaires ad interim here, hosted a reception at the embassy on Tuesday on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
The charge d' affaires a.i. referred to achievements made by the Korean people, saying that Syrian people are significantly celebrating the birthday of Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission.
Saying that great successes were achieved in the relations between Syria and the DPRK last year, he hoped that the relations will be boosted this year. Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- The art troupe of Koreans in Japan gave music and dance performance "We Will Firmly Defend Our General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) to the Last" at the Pyongyang Grand Theatre on Wednesday to celebrate February 16.
The performance raised its curtain with mixed chorus "Single-Minded Best Wishes." In their mixed quartet, female solo and other numbers the performers sang of the Koreans' profound reverence and trust in Kim Jong Il.

Great Many Historic Relics Added to Korean Central History Museum
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- At least 10,000 historic relics have been added to the Korean Central History Museum over the last three decades. At least 5 million people from all walks of life, school youth and children, overseas compatriots and foreigners have visited the museum during the period.
Many historic relics discovered in the past period are on display in the museum according to the periods of the national history. Among them are a fir tree leave pattern earthen jar dating back to the Neolithic era and grains (rice, bean, kaoliang, foxtail millet and millet) belonging to the Bronze age, which now look like charcoal. These relics showcase the time-honored history and brilliant cultural tradition of the Korean nation.
Such relics as gold thread and gold nail dating back to the ancient period clearly show the metal workmanship of the Koreans that reached a high level in those days.
Also exhibited and preserved there are many historic relics listed as national treasures. They include gold ring, gold-bronze Buddhist image dating back to the period of Koguryo, gold earring, gold-bronze Buddha statuette belonging to the period of Palhae and Late Silla, gold-bronze lock, dragon pattern mirror and celadons dating back to the period of Koryo and porcelain ware belonging to the period of Li Dynasty. These relics prove the stages of cultural development of the Korean nation in middle ages.
Best Coach and Players of Ssirum for 2007 Selected
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- Best coach and players of ssirum (Korean wrestling) for Juche 96 (2007) were selected in the DPRK.
Jang Myong Gwan, coach of the Pyongyang City Taekwon-Do Group, was chosen as the best coach of ssirum and Kang Tae Gwon and Ri Chol Song were chosen as the best players of ssirum.
Coach Jang contributed to making the Pyongyang City Taekwon-Do Group win the first place in the ssirum games of the National Sports Festival Commemorating the Day of the Sun, the National Taekwon-Do Championships for "Jongilbong Cup" and the National All-round Taekwon-Do Contest for "September 10 Prize" last year by bagging 30 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 10 copper medals.

Kim Jong Il's Exploits Praised in India
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- Indian political figures released statements on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
Harising Khang, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), said in a statement on Feb. 4 that Kim Jong Il clearly showed the road ahead of the progressive humankind in the 21st century by further developing and enriching the immortal Juche idea fathered by President Kim Il Sung in keeping with the demand of the times.
He has developed the Workers' Party of Korea into an invincible party and further consolidated the single-minded unity of the whole society with his original Songun politics, thus repulsing pressure and arbitrary practices of the imperialists and firmly defending Korean-style socialism, the statement noted. Palam Sen Gupta, international secretary of the National Council of the Communist Party of India and general secretary of the All-India Peace and Solidarity Organization, said in a statement on Feb. 5 that the greatest heyday of prosperity and development ever in the Korean history of 5,000 years has been opened up and it is entirely a brilliant fruition of Kim Jong Il's outstanding strategy and tactics, iron will and energetic leadership.
Kim Jong Il's Birthday Celebrated in Russia
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held in Moscow on Feb. 9 under the sponsorship of the Russian Association for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK to celebrate the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
Speeches were made there.
Tsitarenko, director of the Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that the world highly praises Kim Jong Il as the most distinguished state leader and politician in the present era.
He has firmly defended the sovereignty of the country and socialism chosen by the Korean people by smashing the pressure of the U.S.-led imperialist allied forces with his original Songun politics, the director noted, adding:
The United States styling itself as the "only superpower", too, dares not provoke the DPRK only as it is wisely guided by Kim Jong Il.

Seminar Held by Korean Social Scientists in Japan
Tokyo, February 11 (KNS-KCNA) -- A seminar of Korean social scientists in Japan was held in Tokyo on Feb. 9 on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
Present there were Kim Hwa Hyo, chairman of the Korean Social Scientists Association in Japan, Korean social scientists, officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and compatriots.
Its participants heard papers underscoring the historic significance of the year 2012 in the struggle of the Korean people for independence, noting that the normalization of the DPRK-U.S. relations is the key to ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia and dealing with the prospect of the DPRK-Japan relations with 2012 ahead.

New Year Friendship Meeting between Korean, Japanese Sportspersons Held
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- A friendship meeting for New Year 2008 between Korean and Japanese sportspersons was held in Tokyo on Feb. 8.
Present there were Pae Ik Ju, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), officials of the Korean Amateur Athletic Federation in Japan and sports groups and leading officials of Chongryon organizations and representatives of the Olympic Committee, sports associations and groups and persons concerned of Japan.
Speaking at the meeting, Jong Won Hae, chairman of the Korean Amateur Athletic Federation in Japan who is vice-chairman of the DPRK Olympic Committee, noted that last year DPRK players fully demonstrated their ability at the 5th Women's World Cup and students of Korean schools under Chongryon took an active part in boxing, swimming, weightlifting, rugby and other sporting events.
Recalling that the Japanese government not only barred DPRK players from entering Japan to participate in international tournaments held there but also put pressure to keep the DPRK flag from being displayed during the tournaments, he said: Such unreasonable steps should be rectified immediately.
He stressed the need to boost DPRK-Japan sports exchange.
Officials of the Olympic Committee and sports organizations of Japan in their speeches expressed support and respect for the sports activities of the DPRK and the cause of Korea's reunification.

En las festividades organizadas por la Federacion General de los Sindicatos de Corea y la Union de Trabajadores Agricolas de Corea, los oradores senalaron que el nacimiento del Dirigente Kim Jong Il fue una gran fortuna de la nacion y un gran evento historico de la humanidad que dejo abierto un radiante futuro en el camino para realizar la causa revolucionaria del Juche.
Los oradores mencionaron que el Dirigente, nacido en el monte Paektu y dispuesto de todos los rasgos y cualidades de lider del pueblo en el fragor de la revolucion, dilucido con perspicacia de su clarividencia el camino a seguir por la epoca y la humanidad y con la destacada capacidad politica registra una nueva historia de Corea del Songun (priorizacion militar).
Anadieron que todo el pais, que celebra la fiesta de febrero, esta desbordante del orgullo y la dignidad nacional de tener en la delantera de la revolucion al genial insigne del Paektu y rindieron la mas calurosa felicitacion y la maxima gloria al Dirigente.
Las participantes en el acto de juramento de las miembros de la Union de Mujeres Democraticas de Corea expresaron la firme voluntad de enaltecer para siempre al Presidente Kim Il Sung como eterno Sol del Juche y avanzar a firme paso por el camino de la revolucion del Songun bajo la direccion del Dirigente.
En las ocasiones participaron el secretario del Comite Central del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Kim Jung Rin y otros funcionarios.
