Indonesian Ambassador Gives Reception
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- Daulat Hotma Audison Passaribu, Indonesian ambassador to the DPRK, gave a reception at his embassy here on February 18 on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
Present there on invitation were Vice-President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Yang Hyong Sop, Minister of Agriculture Ri Kyong Sik, Acting Chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Mun Jae Chol, Vice-Minister of the People's Armed Forces Pak Jae Gyong, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Yong Il and officials concerned.
Staff members of the Indonesian embassy were on hand.
The Indonesian ambassador in his speech sincerely wished Kim Jong Il good health on his birthday. He noted that all the successes achieved by the DPRK in the politics, military affairs, economy, culture and foreign relations last year are the brilliant fruition of the wise guidance of Kim Jong Il.
The Indonesian government fully supports the efforts made by the Korean people to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation under the leadership of Kim Jong Il, he added.
Yang Hyong Sop in his speech said that the birth of Kim Jong Il in Mt. Paektu, a holy mountain of the revolution, was a great auspicious event which promised the accomplishment of the Juche revolutionary cause started by President Kim Il Sung and bright future of the country and the nation.
He emphasized that the Korean people would make positive efforts to actively boost the ties of friendship with Indonesia in all fields in the future, too.
Honorary Title and Gift to Three Generals of Mt. Paektu from Peru
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- The Applied Ecology Institute of Peru presented the title of its honorary chairperson and gift to President Kim Il Sung, leader Kim Jong Il and anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk on the occasion of the February holiday.
The diploma on the honorary title and the gift were conveyed to the DPRK ambassador to Peru by Maria Luz Tello Figueroa, chairwoman of the leadership council of the institute, on February 11.

Guinean Party Delegation Visits DPRK Embassy
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the Party for Unity and Progress of Guinea headed by its General Secretary Sekou Konate paid a congratulatory visit to the DPRK embassy in Conakry on February 14 on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
The delegation laid a floral basket in the name of the Political Bureau of the party before the full-length picture of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il standing together.
Chinese Embassy Officials Visit Thaekam Co-op Farm
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- Ambassador Liu Xiaoming and staff members of the Chinese embassy here visited the DPRK-China Friendship Thaekam Co-op Farm in Sunan District, Pyongyang, Tuesday on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the visit to the farm paid by President Kim Il Sung together with Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai.
After being briefed on the farm before the monument to Kim Il Sung's on-site teachings, the visitors went round the house and the former management board building inspected by Kim Il Sung and Zhou Enlai and other places.
They handed over vehicles and aid materials to the farm and talked with officials of the farm, deepening friendship.
The ambassador said that they recollected with deep emotion the proud history of the Sino-Korean friendship while going round the farm along the course covered by Zhou Enlai and Kim Il Sung.
The Sino-Korean friendly relations provided by revolutionaries of the elder generation of China and Kim Il Sung have steadily developed under the deep care of President Hu Jintao and General Secretary Kim Jong Il, he said.
They will strive for the strengthening of the Sino-Korean friendship, he said, hoping that the farm, a symbol of the friendship, would register great success in agricultural production in the future, too.
The members of the embassy also looked round the monument to labor feats of CPV (the Chinese People's Volunteers) members in Ryongi-ri, Phyongwon County, South Phyongan Province, on the same day.
Greetings to Barbadian Prime Minister
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Il, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, sent a message of greetings to David Thompson upon his appointment as Prime Minister of Barbados.
Kim in the message wholeheartedly wished him success in his responsible work for the development of the country and the welfare of the people and expressed the expectation and belief that the friendly relations between the two countries would continue to develop on good terms.
DPRK Women Marathoners Place First and Second in 11th Asian Marathon Championships
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- DPRK marathoners Kim Kum Ok and Jong Yong Ok came first and second respectively in the women's event of the 11th Asian Marathon Championships held in Hong Kong of China on Feb. 17.
The above-said championships included the 2008 Hong Kong-International Marathon Race.
That day, Kim Kum Ok placed first while Jong Yong Ok came second.

DPRK Speed-skater Proves Successful in "Norwegian Cup" International Competition
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- DPRK skater Ko Hyon Suk placed first in the "Norwegian Cup" International Speed-skating Competition in Norway.
On Feb. 16 and 17 she placed first in the 500 meters and 1,000 meters by displaying her high technique.
The competition brought together more than 130 skaters from seven countries including the DPRK, Sweden, Finland and Spain.
Unique Korean-Style Mixed Orchestra
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- The mixed orchestra is the main form of instrumental performances in art troupes of the DPRK.
The mixed orchestra properly combines national instruments with western ones on the principle of attaching the latter to the former with the former as the main so that the inherent emotion of the national music may be kept alive.
It is characteristic of the mixed orchestra to make beautiful and rich multiple sounds on the basis of a new orchestral formation method and the phonetic principles of each musical instrument.
The mixed orchestra is divided into overall and partial ones.
The overall one is a unique Juche-oriented orchestra in which the group of more than 20 kinds of national instruments including kayagum, okryugum, yanggum and small and big gongs is mixed with western ones, while giving a definite predominance to the former.
The creation of the Juche-based overall mixed orchestra brought into being a new form of orchestra, national, popular and modern, with peculiar tone color and rich volume of sound unheard-of in any other orchestras.
The musical pieces of the revolutionary operas "The Sea of Blood" and "The Flower Girl", the dance musical pieces "Azaleas of the Motherland" and "A Rich Apple Harvest" and others are played by the overall mixed orchestra.
In the partial mixed orchestra, western instruments prevail over but it manifests vividly the national emotion by dint of the clean, soft, graceful and plaintive sounds of national wood wind-instruments such as jodae (Korean flute), tanso (Korean short bamboo flute) and saenap (Korean brass wind instrument).
Typical of the musical works played by the partial mixed orchestra are the music of the revolutionary operas "Tell the Story, Forest" and "The Song of Mt. Kumgang", the orchestral pieces "Rich Harvest Comes to the Chongsan Plain" and "Arirang."
Orchestral Music "Rich Harvest Comes to the Chongsan Plain"
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- The orchestral music "Rich Harvest Comes to the Chongsan Plain" in the DPRK tugs at the heartstrings of the people with rare attraction as an ardent paean to the socialist paradise.
It gives a remarkable rendition to symphonic characteristics with a strongly appealing and cheerful tone of a jangsaenap (a long Korean brass wind instrument) and gay rhythms and melodies of such national musical instruments as small and big gongs well harmonized artistically with western instruments.
The music consists of three parts on two themes.
In its prelude slow and fluent melodies of a horn and a flute float, mingled with the quiet vibration of string instruments and the soft dispersed chord of the harp. It carries the audience to the mood of looking over a field of rustling golden crops with satisfaction.
In its exposition, the main theme is represented by a general orchestral performance. Its exciting tune reminds one of the ebullition of the joy, pride and rapture of agricultural working people.
The sub-theme is developed with the melody of "Song of Rich Harvest," a folk song, coupled with the rushing rhythm of the main theme. With the vivid depiction of the exciting scenes of life spreading on the vast land of socialism and affluent representation of a crop distribution site astir with a peasant dance to a tune in which saenap is boldly accentuated, the music gives a lifelike depiction of the agitated sentiments of the agricultural working people.
In the first stage it gives a truthful depiction of the reality of the socialist countryside where rich crops are harvested everywhere thanks to the Chongsan-ri spirit and Chongsan-ri method created by President Kim Il Sung in the form of running music based on the main theme. In the second stage it reminds the audience of the distribution site astir with the peasant dance by giving full scope to the real tone of the peasant music by a saenap solo.
In its recapitulation it represents deepest thanks to President Kim Il Sung who has brought the bountiful harvest by gripping the audience with more excited and satisfied sentiments by the melody of the saenap that has surged to the highest tide and by combining it with the melody of the brass winds in a duplicate manner.
The music ends with the finale in which the thematic melody reverberates grandly in the general play of the orchestral music.
The free use of unique and plain musical language really catches the audience breathless.
Japan Accused of Standing in Way of Six-Party Talks
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- Japan had better quit the six-party talks of its own accord, admitting it lacks any political ability to handle such sensitive and crucial issue as the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
Minju Joson Tuesday says this in a signed commentary.
It goes on:
Japan is taking much pain to turn the six-party talks into a platform for confrontation.
The participating countries, except Japan, took relevant actions to fulfil their commitments as required by the October 3 agreement.
It was only Japan that has not taken any move.
These days Japan seems to work hard to torpedo the talks, talking about "triangular cooperative system for pressurizing north Korea."
Clear is the aim sought by Japan in its moves to convert the multinational talks into a platform for confrontation.
It is working with bloodshot eyes to achieve its sinister political aim, remaining indifferent to the settlement of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. It is its ulterior motive to escalate its policy of pressure upon the DPRK under the pretext of the "abduction issue" and scuttle the above-said talks in case everything goes against its will.
What is more cynical is that its bad behavior has reached a shameless phase.
It is making no scruple of letting loose a spate of rubbish that "it is disappointed at the fact that no progress has been made" in the course of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula though more than one year has passed since the February 13 agreement was adopted.
Unlike other countries, Japan has no moral right to utter anything about the above-said matter because it has done all sorts of wrongs just to disturb the talks.
Its behavior of finding fault with this or that only reminds one of the scandalous action of the mentally deranged fellow.
Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Observed
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il published a highly important work calling for modeling the whole society on the Juche idea on February 19, 1974.
In the work he formulated the revolutionary idea of President Kim Il Sung as an integral system of idea, theory and method of Juche and declared the modeling of the whole society on the Juche idea as a supreme programme of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Rodong Sinmun today dedicates a signed article to this anniversary.
It says:
The work clarified that the revolutionary idea of the President is the only guiding idea representing the present era and the future of humankind, while comprehensively indicating strategic tasks and ways for achieving the final victory of the Juche idea. Herein lies the enormous significance of the work.
Under the leadership of Kim Jong Il the Korean people have made strenuous efforts to embody the Juche idea, the Songun idea, in all fields of the revolution and construction holding high the slogan "Let us arm ourselves more firmly with the revolutionary ideas of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung!"
It is the true picture of our society that it is now being modeled on the great Juche idea, the Songun idea.
This means that all people devotedly defend Kim Jong Il, following him with idea and faith.
Our society is now fully imbued with the Songun idea of Juche only and the spirit of devotedly defending the headquarters of the revolution has become the firm faith of the Korean people.
It is the true picture of our society that all people are united around their leader as comrades.
All people have formed a community of comrades as they are united around their leader and share the idea, will and destiny. Herein lie the advantage of Korean-style socialism and the inexhaustible might of our unbreakable single-minded unity.
It is also true picture of our society that all people are implementing the line and policies of the party in a do-or-die spirit, regarding them as absolute truth.
It is the firm faith of the Korean people that the line and policies of the party are the best and they should be implemented unconditionally at any cost.
The noble spiritual world of the Korean people and their working style in the Songun era are the brilliant fruition of the leadership of Kim Jong Il who laid down the programme for modeling the whole society on the Juche idea and has energetically led the struggle to implement it, concludes the article.
South Korea-U.S. Joint Military Exercises under Fire
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- Recently the South Korea-U.S. "Combined Forces Command" officially announced its plan to stage military exercises, a combination of "Key Resolve" and "Foal Eagle," throughout south Korea from March 2 to 7.
Rodong Sinmun today observes in a signed article carried in this regard:
The above-said joint military exercises are very provocative war maneuvers to be staged under the simulated conditions of an attack on the north.
"Key Resolve" is just the same as the previous RSOI in contents as it is nothing but a new codename.
These war maneuvers are to be staged in parallel with ill-famed "Foal Eagle" joint military exercises, large-scale combined field mobile drills, just as what took place before.
These facts eloquently prove that the DPRK-targeted joint military exercises projected by the military authorities of the United States and south Korea will remain the same in their aggressive nature as they were before.
The relations of confidence have not yet been established between the DPRK and the U.S. as their forces are leveling their guns at each other. Any provocative war exercises to be staged against the other side under this situation would only stoke its distrust and confrontation and they may easily develop into an all-out war. This is more likely as the U.S. conservative hard-liners, having bitterness towards the DPRK, are watching for a chance to torpedo the process of dialogue and ignite a war of aggression against it. Herein lies the danger of the projected saber rattling.
The reality clearly proves that the United States and its lackeys the south Korean warmongers have always been chiefly to blame for blocking the Koreans' cause of independent reunification and bringing the danger of war, concludes the article.
Rally Demanding Solution of Issue of "Comfort Women" Held in S. Korea
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- The 800th Wednesday rally for the solution of the issue of "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army was reportedly held in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul on Feb. 13.
Present there were members of the Council for the Solution of the Issue of the Volunteers Corps and victims of the sexual slavery of south Korea and international activists of various countries.
Speeches were made at the rally.
Yun Mi Hyang, permanent representative of the council, said that 800 Wednesday rallies have been held since the first rally was held in 1992 to demand official apology and reparation from the Japanese government for the sexual slavery enforced by the Imperial Japanese Army in the past. She recalled that resolutions demanding the settlement of the above-said issue were adopted at the law-making bodies in the U.S., Netherlands and Canada and the European Parliament last year, in particular.
The crimes related to the "comfort women" committed by Japan should never be allowed to remain in historical documents only, she held, calling for stronger protest against Japan.
Victim of the sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army Ri Yong Su aged 80 said she could hardly repress indignation at the behavior of the authorities shunning the solution of the issue while talking about sort of "mature south Korea-Japan relations".
The members of the international solidarity organizations active for the solution of the issue of the sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army declared that it would intensify the worldwide solidarity action demanding official apology and reparation from the Japanese government.
Protest against FTA Staged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- Actions of people from different circles were reportedly staged in Seoul on February 14 to check the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement.
At least 5,000 farmers from different areas held a rally of farmers vowing to check the south Korea-U.S. FTA and defend the farmers' vital rights outside the "National Assembly" building.
Recalling that the NA is seeking to pass the ratification bill of FTA, speakers at the rally warned that the assemblymen supporting the conclusion of the FTA would be punished without fail.
They called for preventing the passage of the bill with their own efforts.
Meanwhile, workers under the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and students held rallies to declare that they will join the farmers in the struggle to check the passage of the bill through the NA.
On the same day, the Headquarters of the All-People Movement against the South Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement pitched tents around the NA building to go on a sit-in strike.
Kim Jong Il's Work Off Press in Indonesia
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il's famous work "The Workers' Party of Korea Is the Party of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung" was brought out in booklet by a printing and publishing house of Indonesia on Feb. 6.
The work, published on October 2, Juche 84 (1995), is an immortal great programme for party building and activities as it reviewed with pride the glorious history of the Workers' Party of Korea which paved a new road for building a revolutionary party under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung in the era of independence and indicated the way of strengthening and developing the Party into an eternal party of the President.

Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) --The full texts of Kim Jong Il's famous works "Socialism Is a Science", "On Some Questions in Understanding the Juche Philosophy" and "On the Fundamentals of Revolutionary Party Building" were posted on the Internet homepage of the International Alliance of Societies for the Study of the Juche Idea and Songun Policy in East European and Central Asian Regions.
The work "Socialism Is a Science" published on November 1, Juche 83 (1994) deals with the principled issues arising in upholding and defending socialism and the work "On Some Questions in Understanding the Juche Philosophy" brought out on April 2, 1974 comprehensively deals with the main character of the Juche philosophy and theoretical and practical issues arising in the development of the Juche philosophy.
The work "On the Fundamentals of Revolutionary Party Building" published on October 10, 1992 deals with the historical lesson in building the socialist ruling party and fundamental principles governing the building of the party of Juche.
Book "Immortal Juche Idea" Published in Ecuador
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- The book "Immortal Juche Idea" was brought out by the Voluntad Publishing House in Ecuador on February 8 on the occasion of the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
The book carries a picture of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

Birthday of Kim Jong Il Celebrated in Different Countries
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- A Korean book, photo and handicraft exhibition and a ceremony of opening the week of Korean film show and photo exhibition were held in Bulgaria and Equatorial Guinea and a round-table talk at the building of the Socialist Party of Romania and a film show by the Iranian Red Crescent Society between Feb. 4 and 9 to celebrate the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
On display in the venues of the functions were famous works of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and photos showing their undying revolutionary exploits and handicrafts demonstrating the wisdom and skill of the Korean people.

Coreanas ganan en XI Campeonato Asiatico de Maraton

Rodong Sinmun condena maniobra militar contra el Norte de Corea
Pyongyang, 19 de febrero (ATCC) -- Hace poco, la "comandancia de las fuerzas combinadas" Sur de Corea-Estados Unidos anuncio oficialmente que desplegaria del 2 al 7 de marzo en toda la extension surcoreana una maniobra militar fusionando el ejercicio militar "Key Resolve" con el "Aguilucho".
El diario Rodong Sinmun, en un articulo individual difundido este martes, califica los dos ejercicios militares de simulacro muy provocativo para atacar al Norte de Corea y continua:
"Key Resolve" es identico al "ejercicio combinado de refuerzo para el tiempo de guerra", excepto su nombre.
Como de costumbre, "Key Resolve" se desarrollara al paralelo del "Aguilucho", que es una maniobra militar combinada de gran envergadura para ejercitar el desplazamiento.

La RPDC y EE.UU. se hallan en la aguda confrontacion entre sus fuerzas armadas y no han establecido todavia las relaciones de confianza.
Bajo estas circunstancias, esa maniobra militar agudizara la desconfianza y confrontacion entre ambas partes y, en el peor de los casos, puede desencadenar una guerra total.
La situacion se pone mas critica porque las fuerzas conservadoras intransigentes de EE.UU., colmadas de hostilidad a la RPDC, acechan la oportunidad para llevar al fracaso el proceso del dialogo y desatar la guerra contra la segunda.
La realidad pone en claro que EE.UU. y la capa militar belicista surcoreana se empenan tanto en el pasado como hoy en impedir la causa de reunificacion independiente de la nacion coreana y acarrean el nubarron de la guerra contra la RPDC.
