Schoolchildren's Works Published
Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- A collection of schoolchildren's works "May the country of General Kim Jong Il shine" (Vol. 7) was published by the Educational Books Publishing House.
The book contains at least 300 children's songs and poems, compositions, lyrics and others done by 72 schoolchildren.
The works successfully represent the ardent desire of the schoolchildren to hold General Secretary Kim Jong Il in high esteem and follow him to the end and the admirable appearance of the younger generation growing up to be dependable pillars of the country that would shoulder upon themselves its future.
The words of the song "Sincere efforts to cultivate Kimjongilia," children's song " Frostwork," child poem "My native place bright with glow" and other works rich in ideological contents and profound in representation truthfully deal with the spiritual world of the schoolchildren. Composition "Promise" and fable "Sparrow and field mouse" and other works original in their ideas and unique in literary creation successfully reflect the mentality of schoolchildren.
It also contains an article dealing with experience gained in writing titled "Looking for 'pearls and jewels' of literature."
Spirit of National Unity Displayed in Defensive Battles
Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The Korean nation has given full play to the spirit of national unity in battles to defend the motherland from foreign aggression from olden times.
The Koreans drove back the foreign invaders with united strength in the period of Ancient Korea (early 30th century B.C.-108 B.C.) founded by Tangun and in the days of Koguryo (277 B.C. - 668 A.D.), a powerful country with a long history of ten centuries in the east.
Their indomitable spirit of unity is well illustrated by historical facts about the defense in the period of Koryo (918-1392) from foreign invaders coming in attack from the north and the south.
When aggressors intruded into the country, the people in those days voluntarily joined the government army and, united in one body, beat off the enemy in grueling battles, thus defending the sovereignty and dignity of the nation.
In the Imjin Patriotic War (1592-1598) the Koreans fought against the Japanese invaders by forming units of the Righteous Volunteer's Army in all parts of the country.
Quite a few number of them were persons of humble birth such as Ko Kyong Myong, leader of the Jolla Provincial Righteous Volunteer's Army, and his family, Kye Wol Hyang of Pyongyang and Ron Kae of Jinju.
The Japanese invaders hundreds of thousands strong suffered a crushing defeat and took to flight in face of the close unity of the Koreans who turned out in the fight as one man, transcending differences between wealth and poverty and the noble and the mean.
The spirit of unity of the Korean nation is being displayed to the full in the nation-wide struggle to open a new horizon of independent reunification and peace and prosperity in the spirit of "by our nation itself" in the June 15 era of reunification today.
Hwangjin-ri, Spot of Unparalleled Beauty
Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- Hwangjin-ri, Myongchon County, North Hamgyong Province, situated in the northeastern part of Korea boasts of its superb view reminding us of the Korean word "Kumsangchomhwa".
"Kumsangchomhwa" means "to add luster to what is already beautiful".
Very beautiful is the scenery of the eight km-long seashore of Hwangjin-ri in the area of Sea Chilbo of Mt. Chilbo.
There are in the area spa and mineral spring resorts which have been famous from long ago.
The spa is efficacious for the treatment of hypertension, neuralgia, external wound, operation sequela, sterility, skin disease, chronic gastritis and other diseases.
The mineral water has long been used for the cure of gastrointestinal disorder.
Scores of traditional Korean-style dwelling houses with hip-saddle roofs and painted with white distemper have been recently constructed in the spa area.
The bird's-eye-view of the village from a mountain gives the impression of a flock of cranes perching, blended with the picturesque scenery of Mt. Chilbo.
Each house has living rooms for the householders, rooms for patients, a bathtub for spa treatment and a washroom.
Today so many places of the DPRK are being made still more beautiful.
U.S. Madcap Naval War Maneuvers under Fire
Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialist aggressor forces' Nimitz and other warships are now getting frantic in the war maneuvers targeted against the DPRK with waters of the East, West and South Seas of Korea as operational theatres after participating in the provocative Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises, according to a military source.
On March 12 and 13 Nimitz, Ohio and Princeton and other warships staged madcap exercises for ensuring the submarines' maneuverability and increasing their capability to strike targets and drills for boosting the capability of flying corps and naval artillery pieces to destroy maritime targets in waters south of Sohuksan Island.
On March 9 and 10 these warships were busy conducting exercises for ensuring maneuverability and carrying out submarine operational plans in waters off Uljin and Phohang in a coordinated operation with warships and submarines of the Five Star flotilla and the 9th submarine flotilla of the Naval Operational Command of south Korea and patrol planes belonging to the 6th flying corps.
Guided missile destroyers are busy almost everyday with exercises to get familiar with seabed and launch torpedoes and Tomahawk cruise missiles in waters around Phyongthaek Port.
The ceaseless naval war maneuvers being staged by the warmongers of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces, keeping Nimitz and other warships at ports and in waters of south Korea even after their participation in Key Resolve and Foal Eagle, reveal their scenario for striking strategic positions in the DPRK with the mobilization of precision strike means including Tomahawks at the outset of war and conducting a ground warfare by blitz tactics.
Their intention to put the whole of Korea under their control by force contrary to the trend of the times toward dialogue and peace can never come true.
The DPRK has its own mode of strike.
The U.S. had better stop the DPRK-targeted madcap war exercises at once and withdraw aggression troops from south Korea without delay.
Moves for Stronger "Triangular Military Alliance" Assailed
Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The United States, Japan and south Korea at the recent fourth meeting of the "security research consultative council" adopted a "declaration" calling for setting up a mechanism called "three-nation coordinating committee" and building it into "a new model of international cooperation among military forces" and creating its "working group" made up of those who hold important posts in the military.
Commenting on this, Minju Joson Thursday observes: The warmongers of the United States, Japan and south Korea were crafty enough to put forward research institutes and hold a confab on tightening their military collusion and nexus under their signboards. This indicates that they are putting spurs to the moves to reinforce the "triangular military alliance".
Citing facts to prove that the U.S. has long promoted the moves to create the "triangular military alliance" involving the U.S., Japan and south Korea, the news analyst says:
The "three-nation coordinating committee" which the U.S., Japan and south Korea recently decided to knock into shape can be called an official signboard of the "triangular military alliance".
The DPRK is made the first target of the above-mentioned alliance. It is as clear as noonday that the creation of the above-said committee would make it possible for the warmongers of the U.S., Japanese and south Korean militaries to escalate the moves for a war of aggression against the DPRK in an evermore undisguised manner.
It is a daydream for them to seize the DPRK by force of arms.
The U.S. would be well advised to ponder over the consequences to be entailed by the moves to reinforce the alliance and roll back its anachronistic hostile policy towards the DPRK.
The Japanese reactionaries are brandishing their swords to stage a comeback to Korea, pursuant to the above-said U.S. policy. This, however, is touching off bitterer hatred of the servicepersons and people of the DPRK for Japan. Those reactionaries should bear this in mind and stop their moves for reinvasion of Korea.
The south Korean warmongers would be well advised to behave themselves, well aware that they will be unable to escape a stern judgment for persisting in the military provocations against compatriots in collusion with their masters U.S. and Japan.
U.S. Military Exercises under Fire
Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The U.S. and south Korean warmongers conducted Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises across south Korea, which were evidently a test nuclear war, a preliminary war for preemptive strike on the DPRK, in view of its scale and nature.
Rodong Sinmun says this in a signed article on Thursday.
It is the U.S. policy of stifling the DPRK and its main military strategy to invade and dominate the DPRK by means of provoking a war on the Korean Peninsula and mounting a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK, the article points out, citing data to expose the gravity and dangerous nature of the recent joint military exercises.
Noting that the peninsula is publicly recognized as the most acute area of military confrontation and the most dangerous hotbed of nuclear war in the world, it says:
The United States has talked about the reduction of its armed forces in different areas of the world. But it has been systematically reinforcing its military forces in the Asian-Pacific region surrounding the Korean Peninsula in a bid to provoke a new Korean war.
Modernly armed U.S. forces, including nuclear-powered carriers, have been massively deployed in south Korea and Japan and other vicinities of the peninsula, and the war exercises against the DPRK staged frequently.
The U.S. made it a fait accompli to provoke a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula and has sped up the preparations for it. This was motivated by its scheme to invade the DPRK with south Korea as a springboard and, furthermore, conquer the Asian continent and the rest of the world.
The U.S. war-thirsty forces seek to occupy the DPRK at a stretch with huge modern armed forces, including nukes, in case they unleash a war of aggression on it.
The reality hints that a nuclear war may be ignited on the Korean Peninsula at any time by the U.S.
The U.S. warmongers should not act on impulse, clearly mindful that any nuclear threat does not work on the DPRK possessed of the strong war deterrent.
Pressure for Increasing S. Korea's Share of Funds for Upkeep of U.S. Forces under Fire
Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The Press Headquarters of the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration made public a statement on March 6 in which it demanded the U.S. stop at once unreasonably pressurizing south Korea to increase its share of funds for the upkeep of its forces in south Korea.
The statement accused the U.S. ambassador in Seoul of pressurizing south Korea to drastically increase its share of the funds for the upkeep of the U.S. forces, when interviewed by Kukbang Ilbo on March 5. Blasting him for asserting that the U.S. is under the heavy financial burden incurred by its war on terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan and other areas, the statement continued:
The U.S. forces in south Korea are pushing forward the expansion of military bases and drill grounds in Phyongthaek, Kunsan, Mugon-ri and other places and forcing south Korea to cover the expenses for disposing of the scrapped ammunition and de-polluting the contaminated environment in the U.S. military bases that had been returned to south Korea. It is brazen-faced for the U.S. to pressurize south Korea to pay a stupendous amount of funds for the upkeep of its forces.
The amount of the illicit fortune accumulated by the U.S. forces by use of the money they collected from the south Korean side till now under the pretext of sharing the funds for their upkeep exceeds that of the fund it should pay as its share for 2008, it deplored.
Probe into Suspicious Deaths Urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, March 13 (KCNA) -- The Committee for Probing the Truth about Suspicious Deaths in the Army and bereaved families of south Korea held a press conference in Seoul on March 6 at which they demanded an immediate probe into the truth about suspicious deaths.
At the press conference the chairman of the committee referred to the results on survey made of the cases of suspicious deaths in the past two years. He said it has been disclosed that most of the cases were caused by harsh violence in units.
450 cases have not yet been settled, he said, demanding that the authorities conduct the wide probe into the truth about suspicious deaths in a responsible manner.
Bereaved families in their addresses urged the authorities to clearly probe the truth behind the cases, saying that miserable deaths by harsh violence are still reported from the army.
