Kim Jong Il Sends Message of Sympathy to Hu Jintao
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il Tuesday sent a message of sympathy to Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and president of the People's Republic of China.
The message said:
Upon hearing the sad news that a serious train accident occurred in your country, claiming huge casualties, I express deep sympathy and consolation to you and, through you, to the Communist Party and government of China and the families of the victims.
I am convinced that the government and people of China will eradicate the aftermath of the accident at the earliest possible date under the leadership of the Communist Party of China with you as general secretary.
National Meeting Held to Mark May Day
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- A national meeting was held at the People's Palace of Culture Wednesday to mark the 118th May Day, the international holiday of the working people the world over.
Present there were Kim Yong Nam, Kim Yong Il and others, the chairman of a friendly party, leading officials of working people's organizations, officials of ministries and national institutions, labor innovators and working people in the city.
Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, in a report at the meeting said that General Secretary Kim Jong Il, basing himself on a deep analysis of the developing present times and the changed class relations, made sure that the May Day is commemorated as a holiday of the working people and thus performed another precious feat which will make an imperishable contribution to accomplishing the cause of independence of the working masses.
Recorded in all shining annals of the Korean revolution adorned with victory and glory are the labor feats the working people have performed by devoting themselves to the country and the revolution, true to the leadership of the Party and the leader, the reporter noted.

The struggle of the Korean people for independence, sovereignty and socialism was unprecedentedly arduous and difficult but the working people of the DPRK could make an ever-victorious history, pulling through manifold difficulties and ordeals as they had Kim Il Sung, the peerlessly great man born of Heaven, in the van of the revolution.
The undying feats Kim Il Sung performed by bringing up the workers, farmers and intellectuals as dependable pillars of the revolution and building a socialist power independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in national defence, devoting his all to the working masses while finding himself among them all his life, will remain shining for all ages with the eternal prosperity of Juche Korea.
The revolutionary leadership of Kim Il Sung, who led the revolution to victory in reliance on the militant might and united strength of the working people as required by the era of Juche, the era of independence, is given steady continuity by Kim Jong Il, the Songun brilliant commander of Mt. Paektu.

Sports Contest for Mangyongdae Cup Closes
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- The Sports Contest for Mangyongdae Cup which opened on April 10 to commemorate the Day of the Sun came to a close.
At the contest national records were improved in four subdivided events of weightlifting, swimming and track and field and good successes were registered in various events.
The April 25 Sports Group placed first in women's football and men's and women's basketball, volleyball and table-tennis games.
The Amnokgang Sports Group came first in men's football matches, the Rimyongsu Sports Group in women's handball games, the Kigwancha Sports Group in men's regulation-ball tennis event and the Moranbong Sports Group of Pyongyang in women's softball games.
A closing ceremony took place at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street, Pyongyang, on Wednesday.
Korean Art Exhibition Held in Indonesia
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- A Korean art exhibition was held in Indonesia from April 23 to 26 to commemorate the Day of the Sun, the 43rd anniversary of the Indonesia visit by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and the 43rd anniversary of the birth of Kimilsungia.
On display in the venue of the exhibition were photos and fine art works showing the undying feats of the peerlessly great men and fine art works introducing the genuine looks of Songun Korea.
Present at its opening ceremony were officials of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Foreign Ministry and press organ, fine art fans and other people of Indonesia and the ambassador and staff members of the DPRK embassy in the country.
Sapta Nirwandar, general secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said at the ceremony that they were happy to hold the grand DPRK art exhibition in Jakarta for the first time.
He hoped that the exhibition would serve as a source for developing the relations between the two countries and enriching the national culture of the two peoples through cultural and art exchange and mark an important occasion in teaching the rising generations the true value of culture.
Thonggun Pavilion, National Cultural Heritage
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- There is the Thonggun Pavilion, a national cultural heritage, in Uiju Township, Uiju County of North Phyongan Province.
The pavilion belonging to the Ri Dynasty (1392-1910) shows the high standard of architecture of the Korean people. It, located in a beauty spot, is one of the eight scenic wonders in North and South Phyongan Provinces and Jagang Province.
It stands on the peak of Mt. Samgak on the bank of the River Amnok from which one can take a bird's-eye view of the river and command battles.
According to historical records, the pavilion was reconstructed in 1478.
Though it was repaired in 1538 and on several other occasions, it keeps its appearance of the 15th century.
It, with four open sections (14.41 meters) in the front and four open sections (11.85 meters) in both sides, is a seven cross-beam building with flower spray ornamentation at the top of each column.
The double-eave hip-saddle roof with broad gables adds magnificence to the building and the colorful painting of the pavilion also adds beauty to it.
The Thonggun Pavilion is a valuable heritage showing pavilion architecture in the early period of the Ri Dynasty.
The pavilion telling the proud history of the Korean people who valiantly fought against foreign invaders not only is well preserved as an heritage of national treasure but also serves as a site for cultural rest of the working people.
Evodia Daniellii Benn Woods Created Extensively
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- Much efforts are being directed to create Evodia Daniellii Benn woods in the DPRK.
Tens of thousands of hectares of Evodia Daniellii Benn woods have been created in recent years in the country.
North Hwanghae Province has planted Evodia Daniellii Benn trees in the land of several thousand hectares through a vigorous campaign.
The province took a step for all the cities and counties to plant such trees in the land of several hundred hectares, following the example of Sohung County where oil-bearing trees pay off.
Sohung County has arranged Evodia Daniellii Benn sapling nurseries and produced a large number of saplings every year to be sent to cities and counties across the country.
The acreage of Evodia Daniellii Benn trees has remarkably increased in Sinchon and Pongchon counties of South Hwanghae Province and Kusong City and Nyongbyon County of North Phyongan Province, too.
Huge similar woods are being created in Kim Chaek City of North Hamgyong Province and in cities and counties including Hamju County of South Hamgyong Province in the period of the spring general mobilization for land administration every year.
South Phyongan, Kangwon and other provinces and cities and counties have organized stations which are specialized in planting and tending Evodia Daniellii Benn trees. They are explaining about the biological character and economical value of the tree among the working people so as to thoroughly abide by the technical regulations in the production and tending of saplings.
More than 170 Cases of Aerial Espionage Committed against DPRK in April
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- Warmongers of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces and the south Korean puppet armed forces committed at least 170 cases of aerial espionage against the DPRK with the mobilization of strategic and tactical reconnaissance planes of different missions in April, according to a military source. More than 100 cases of them were committed by the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces and 70 odd cases by the south Korean puppet armed forces.
The U.S. imperialist aggressor forces' overseas-based RC-135 flew into south Korea on April 23 to make a long shuttle flight on an aerial spy mission. Roughly eight reconnaissance planes were busy perpetrating aerial photographing and electronic reconnaissance of all areas of the DPRK on the same day.
A U-2 transferred to south Korea from an overseas base shortly ago and another U-2 based in an air-force base of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces in south Korea flew in the air above the frontline areas round-the-clock almost every day to spy on major targets deep in the DPRK.
On April 16, 22 and 23, an E-3 based in Japan was busy commanding aerial war exercises of the flying corps of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces and the south Korean puppet armed forces and spying on areas of the DPRK.
RC-12 and RC-7B tactical reconnaissance planes of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces in south Korea also flew into the sky above the forefront areas every day to perpetrate observation and electronic espionage against the DPRK.
Meanwhile, more than two RC-800s and RF-4Cs of the south Korean puppet army on a daily average were busy with aerial espionage against the DPRK.
Lee Myung Bak Group's Unreasonable Action under Fire
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- The youth and students headquarters of the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration on April 26 made public a statement in denunciation of the unreasonable action of the south Korean ruling quarters to disallow some delegates of the south side to participate in the 5th north-south conference of youth and students organizations for implementing the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.
The statement accused the Lee Myung Bak group of disallowing eight delegates of the south side including Ri Sung Ho, chairman of the south Korean Council of Youth Organizations, and Pak Ji Hyon, chairperson of the Students Committee of the Democratic Labor Party of south Korea, to attend the conference under the pretext of "ensuring security and disturbing public order."
It said that the south-north relations have developed into the stage of mutual reconciliation and cooperation thanks to the publication of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, but the authorities are suppressing the popular youth organizations on the charge of staging the reunification movement by labeling them "enemy benefiting organizations" and defining the north as "an enemy." This is an anachronistic and reckless action, it stressed.
The statement declared that the above-said organization would stage dynamic actions to get the label of "enemy benefiting" attached to the south Korean Council of Youth Organizations, the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils and the south headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification affiliated to the youth and students headquarters of the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration lifted.
Day of Sun Commemorated
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- Meetings and a film show were held in India, Venezuela, Poland and Hungary from April 15 to 18 to commemorate the Day of the Sun.
Displayed in the venues of the functions were works of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il and photos showing their undying feats and pictures introducing socialist Korea.
Speeches were made at the meetings.
Vishwanath, director-general of the International Institute of the Juche Idea, Om Prakash Mantri, secretary general of the All India Indo-Korean Friendship Association, and S. S. Chaman, general secretary of the Indian Federation for Friendship with Foreign Countries, highly praised Kim Il Sung as the prominent leader who wisely guided the national liberation movement, the struggle against imperialism and the U.S., the non-aligned movement and the world socialist movement and as the great sun who performed the immortal exploits in the history of humankind.
Omar Lopez, chairman of the Venezuelan National Society for the Study of the Juche Idea, and Antonio Rivero, chairman of the Venezuela-Korea Friendship Society, said that the future of the DPRK is firmly guaranteed thanks to Kim Jong Il who has been fully carrying forward the idea and cause of Kim Il Sung, adding that the Venezuelan people would always stand by the side of the Korean people.
Stanislaw Dobek, chairman of the Sandomierz-Opatow Branch of the Poland-Korea Association, noted that Kim Jong Il has demonstrated to the whole world the dignity and honor of the country with the might of Songun, and stressed it is fortune and pride of the DPRK that its people are blessed with illustrious leaders generation after generation.
A presidium member of the Hungarian Communist Worker's Party, praised Kim Il Sung for the great feats performed for the Korean revolution and the cause of global independence, saying that his revolutionary exploits would be everlasting.
The participants in the film show watched the Korean film "They Are Together on the Way of the Great Songun Leadership".
Japan's Anti-DPRK Moves Assailed in Austria
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- The Left Bloc of the Austrian Trade Union Federation on April 24 sent a letter to the Japanese government in protest against Japan's decision to extend sanctions against the DPRK.
It lodged a strong protest with the Japanese government against its extension of the illegal sanctions against the DPRK and demanded an immediate and unconditional repeal of the decision.
It held that Japan is obliged to make due reparation for the past crimes as it inflicted immeasurable misfortune and sufferings upon the Korean people after occupying Korea.
The Austrian Trade Union Federation expresses indignation at the Japanese authorities' discrimination against the Koreans in Japan and demands them stop such actions at once, it stressed.

Simposio por 50o aniversario de la obra de Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, 30 de abril (ATCC) -- Tuvo lugar este martes el simposio del sector de ciencia social por el 50o aniversario de la publicacion de la obra del Presidente Kim Il Sung "Sobre la conservacion cuidadosa de los monumentos y reliquias de valor historico".
El Presidente la publico el 30 de abril del 47 (1958) de la Era Juche en una conversacion con profesores y estudiantes de la Universidad Kim Il Sung.
En la ocasion fueron publicadas varias disertaciones tales como "Inmortal programa que ilumino globalmente el principio fundamental y las medidas mas cientificas para la reparacion y conservacion de los patrimonios culturales nacionales", "Imborrables hazanas de direccion de los tres Generales del monte Paektu quienes crearon modelo de la conservacion de los monumentos y reliquias historicos".
Los oradores explicaron de modo profundo la justeza y la vitalidad de la idea y la teoria aclaradas en dicha obra.
Explicaron que la obra aclara de manera cientifica la importancia y la significacion de la historia y cultura de una nacion en la educacion en el patriotismo para el pueblo y presenta el principio y la metodologia a ser mantenidos permanentemente en el descubrimiento de los monumentos y reliquias historicos.
Se refirieron a que durante estos 50 anos que datan de la publicacion de la obra, se desplegaron energicamente, a base de la teoria y metodologia cientificas, el descubrimiento, la conservacion y la administracion de los monumentos y reliquias historicos, gracias a lo cual se lograron muchos exitos en este sector.

Pyongyang, 30 de abril (ATCC) -- Tuvo lugar el dia 29 en el Palacio Cultural del Pueblo la premiacion a los funcionarios, cientificos y tecnicos que contribuyeron en gran medida al desarrollo de la tecnologia cibernetica y al cumplimiento de la revolucion tecnica del pais al desarrollar en los ultimos anos muchos programas nuevos y eficientes.
En la ocasion fue entregado el reloj con el nombre del Presidente Kim Il Sung a 7 personas incluyendo Song Hyon Jun, vicerrector del Instituto de Ciencia Cibernetica de la Universidad Kim Il Sung.
Tambien fueron otorgados el "Premio de Honor Juvenil Kim Il Sung" a O Myong Il, cursante del doctorado de la Universidad Politecnica Kim Chaek, y otros cinco, el titulo de Cientifico del Pueblo a Sin Thae Song, director de instituto de la Universidad Politecnica Kim Chaek, el titulo de Cientifico Benemerito a Kim Kyun, subdecano de facultad de la Universidad Kim Il Sung, y Jong Yong Gol, jefe de catedra de la Universidad de Ciencias Naturales.
