Kim Jong Il Enjoys Performance Given by State Merited Chorus
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il enjoyed a performance given by the State Merited Chorus together with servicepersons of the KPA on the occasion of the May Day.
Among the audience were Jang Song Thaek and Kim Yang Gon, department directors of the Central Committee of the WPK, and its other senior officials, Generals of the KPA Hyon Chol Hae, Kim Myong Guk and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers of the army.
The State Merited Chorus, honored with Kim Il Sung Prize, put on the stage colorful numbers including chorus "Our Comrade Kim Jong Il," male solo and chorus "A Sentry Offers Warm Greetings to Leader," choruses "May, Month of Victory," "The Sound of a Horse's Hooves in Mt. Paektu" and "Way of Victory," male solos and choruses "We Started from Scratch" and "Song of Comradeship," male quartet and chorus "May the Era of the Workers' Party Prosper" and orchestra and chorus "Snow Falls."
The performers sang high praises of the path shining with victory and glory covered by the Korean revolution and successfully represented the firm faith and will of the KPA and the Korean people to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche, holding aloft the banner of Songun despite any trials and difficulties.
Kim Jong Il extended high appreciations and thanks to the artistes of the merited chorus for their successful presentation, greatly satisfied with their splendid performance replete with the faith and will of Korea and the revolutionary soldier spirit.
Noting that orchestra and chorus "Snow Falls" newly created by the artistes of the chorus with wisdom and enthusiasm is a distinguished monumental masterpiece of epochal significance in developing the Juche-based music, he stressed that this shining success is a striking demonstration of the validity and vitality of the WPK's policy on creating Korean-style orchestra, chorus and modality.
He expressed expectation and belief that all the artistes of the merited chorus would dynamically conduct revolutionary art creative activities to inspire the servicepersons and people to fresh struggles and feats in the future, too.
Senior Party and State Officials Congratulate Working People on May Day
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Senior officials of the party and state joined working people in different parts of the country significantly marking the May Day, the international holiday of all working people in the world.
On Thursday Kim Yong Nam, Kim Yong Il, Choe Thae Bok, Yang Hyong Sop, Kim Jung Rin, Kim Ki Nam, Choe Yong Rim and Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party, leading officials of the Cabinet, ministries, national institutions and the local party and power organs and working people's organizations visited institutions, enterprises and co-op farms to congratulate the working class and agricultural working people and intellectuals enjoying the holiday.
Among them were the Pyongyang Thermal-power Complex, the Pukchang Thermal-power Complex, the State Academy of Sciences, the Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Plant, the Chongsan Co-op Farm in Kangso County, the Migok Co-op Farm in Sariwon City, the Taean Heavy Machine Complex and the Pyongyang Textile Mill.
The senior officials of the party and state placed floral baskets and bunches of flowers before statues of President Kim Il Sung and went round the monuments to the revolutionary activities of the three generals of Mt. Paektu, the monuments to their field instructions, rooms dedicated to the history of the institutions, enterprises and farms and other places. They were briefed on the facts that the institutions, enterprises and farms covered proud course of development under the wise leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea and leader.
They met with the innovators dedicating themselves to the prosperity of the country and visited the dormitories and families of working people to congratulate them on their successful work and encourage them.
They also enjoyed art performances reflecting the worthwhile struggle and happy life of the socialist working people and joined them in the colorful sports and cultural events.

Day of Working People Shining under Leadership of Peerlessly Great Men
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- May Day is the international holiday of the working people.
On this occasion the Korean people are grateful to the peerlessly great men for having deeply concerned for observing the day as a holiday of the working people both in name and in reality.
Unthinkable apart from the wise guidance of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il is that the working people of Korea vigorously advance the Juche-based cause of socialism and significantly observe May Day every year.
The President saw to it that the day was marked significantly even in the years of anti-Japanese war.
Conspicuous were the May Day celebrations which were held on Xiaodeshui tableland in Juche 28 (1939) just after the victorious Arduous March and the May Day demonstration that was waged in Xinxingcun, flying red flags under the strict watch of enemies.
The President instructed officials that a mammoth Pyongyang City May Day rally, the first of its kind after the liberation of the country, should be held in 1946 and made an important speech in which he stressed that a country where everybody would be well off should be built in this land.
In response to his call, the Korean working people were all out to the efforts for the construction of a new country, singing loudly the song "May, Month of Victory."
In the hard-fought Fatherland Liberation War, the President issued an order of the Supreme Commander "In Commemoration of May Day" to give firm confidence in victory and courage to the servicepersons and people and thus brought earlier the day of victory.
Finding himself always among working people in his life, he raised common workers, peasants and intellectuals into the pillars of the revolution and built a powerful socialist country in this land, independent in politics, self-supporting in economy and self-reliant in national defence.
In the Songun era, the Korean working people under the guidance of Kim Jong Il are enjoying a worthwhile life, displaying their revolutionary spirit and combat strength to the full.
He, who saw to it to mark May Day as a holiday of the working people of the whole world on the basis of the deep-going analysis of the development of the times and class relationship, has visited a large number of factories, co-op farms, scientific zones and universities and led the working people to learn after the revolutionary soldier spirit and accelerate the construction of a great, prosperous and powerful nation.

Ugandan Party Leader Interviewed
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Amama Umbabazi, general secretary of the Uganda National Resistance Movement, had an interview with KCNA on Wednesday, before winding up the visit to the DPRK.
He said that during the stay he could know well about the undying feats performed by President Kim Il Sung for the times and humankind and the successes achieved by the Korean people in the revolution and construction under the uplifted banner of Songun.
Praising Kim Il Sung as the great man who devoted his all to prosperity of the country and happiness of the people, he went on to say:
The President fathered the great revolutionary idea to show the road ahead of the Korean and Ugandan peoples and the world progressives struggling for national independence and freedom.
He, together with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, provided the friendly relations between the two countries.
He has been highly praised by all people for his exploits performed on behalf of the times and humankind.

His cause is being successfully carried forward and accomplished by leader Kim Jong Il.

Reception Given for Brazilian Party Delegation
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea gave a reception in honor of the visiting delegation of the Brazilian Communist Party on April 30.
Present there on invitation were members of the delegation of the Brazilian Communist Party headed by National Chairman Jose Renato Rabelo.
Secretary Choe Thae Bok, Vice Department Director Kim Thae Jong and other officials of the WPK Central Committee were on hand.
Speaking at the reception, Choe Thae Bok noted that the Brazilian Communist Party has worked hard to achieve the unity and cohesion of the party and rally the broad masses of people around it after setting this as an important task of the party work and made successes in the efforts to improve the education and the health system through popular policies.
He expressed the belief that the relations of friendship and cooperation between the parties and the peoples of the two countries would grow stronger in the idea of independence, peace and friendship.
Jose Renato Rabelo said in his speech that the Communist Party and the progressive forces of Brazil fully support the WPK and the Korean people in their efforts to achieve the reunification of the country and build a great and prosperous socialist state under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
The friendly relations between the WPK and the BCP are a very close relationship as they fight against the common enemy with the same idea, he said, declaring that his party would strive to develop the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two parties and the two peoples.
Homage Paid to Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the Brazilian Communist Party headed by its National Chairman Jose Renato Rabelo on Thursday visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace to pay homage to President Kim Il Sung.
The members of the delegation paid tribute to the President in humble reverence.
The head of the delegation made an entry in the visitor's book.

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Leading newspapers of the DPRK today dedicate editorials to the May Day, the international holiday of the working people the world over.
Rodong Sinmun says that on this occasion the Korean working people are extending firm support and solidarity to the world revolutionary people in the struggle for independence, justice and genuine rights of human beings.
Under the wise guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea and the leader, the Korean people have set an example of the times in the struggle for independence and socialism in the course of the fierce confrontation with the imperialists, it notes, stressing that their struggle has been a great encouragement to the world revolutionary people.
The revolutionary stamina and indomitable fighting spirit of the Korean people, who pioneered the path for socialism and independence against imperialism, are being more fully demonstrated in the era of Songun steered by General Secretary Kim Jong Il, it says, and goes on:
The Korean people have grown to be men strong in idea and faith and mental power in the course of struggle to pull through grim storms of the Songun revolution by following the example of the People's Army, the pillar and main force of the revolution, under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Japan's Plunder of Forest Resources in Korea Accused
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Ninety years have passed since the Japanese imperialists cooked up and promulgated the "Forest Land Survey Act" to plunder Korea of its forest resources.
In this regard a spokesman for the DPRK Committee for Investigation into the Damage Done by the Japanese Imperialists during Their Occupation of Korea made public a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the Japanese imperialists promulgated the above-said act on May 1, 1918 and wrested 13 million hectares out of Korea's 16 million hectares of forest land at that time under the pretext of "state forest" and delivered the ownership of the rest up to the Japanese landlords and pro-Japanese lackeys.
In the period from 1931 to 1942 alone, they took away 30 million cubic meters of wood from Korea and stripped bare more than two million hectares of virgin dense forests in the areas of the River Amnok and the River Tuman, in particular.
The statement cited facts to disclose that during their occupation of Korea the Japanese imperialists cooked up a number of evil laws for colonial plunder beside the above-said act, including the "Korean Mining Act" and the "Fishing Act", and deprived Korea of not only forest resources but also all the material resources and cultural assets in the most brutal way.
The reactionaries of Japan have evaded the state responsibility for its past aggression and plunder and all other crimes committed against the Koreans still now, 60 odd years since its defeat. On the contrary, they are getting overheated in the moves to distort history and stage a comeback to Korea in a bid to realize their old dream of the "Greater East Asia co-prosperity sphere" at any cost, the statement said, and went on:
This is an outrageous challenge to the whole Korean nation, the victim, and the international community, and it is an intolerable encroachment upon the Korean nation's dignity and sovereignty.
Today the conservative ruling quarters of south Korea, including Lee Myung Bak, are zealously following the Japanese reactionaries' policy for reinvasion, letting loose a spate of such reckless remarks as "restoration of south Korea-Japan relations" and "forward-looking ties." This is a heinous treachery intended to trample down the national dignity and interests and impose upon the Korean nation again the disgrace and disaster it suffered a century ago.
The statement urged Japan to immediately make an apology and reparation for the crimes committed against the Korean nation and stop at once the reinvasion moves. It also demanded that the south Korean conservative ruling quarters clearly see the desire of the nation and the trend of the times and stop their rash acts.
Exploits of Great Persons of Mt. Paektu Praised in Foreign Countries
Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Round-table talks, meetings, lectures, film shows, book exhibitions and photo exhibitions were held in China, Cuba, the Czech Republic, Italy, India, Myanmar, Peru and Nigeria between April 5 and 26 to commemorate the Day of the Sun, the 15th anniversary of General Secretary Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and the 76th birthday of the heroic Korean People's Army.
On display in the venues of the functions were works of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and photos showing their undying exploits and books and photos introducing Songun Korea.
The participants in the film shows watched "The Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung Meets Heads of State and Prominent Figures of Foreign Countries", "They Are Together on the Way of Great Songun Leadership" and other Korean films.
Jiri Svoboda, chairman of the Pribram County Committee of the Communist Party of Czech and Moravia, noted that the world progressive people are significantly commemorating the Day of the Sun, highly praising Kim Il Sung as defender of socialism, outstanding statesman and prominent thinker and theoretician.
Matteo Carbonelli, secretary general of the European Society for the Study of the Juche Idea, and Constanzi Franco, secretary general of the Italian Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea, gave a high appreciation of the proud history covered by the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK under the wise leadership of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, hoping that victory and glory only would always be in store for the Korean People's Army.
Anita Chopra, president of the Indian Working Women Society for the Study of the Juche Philosophy, said that no such man has been found as Kim Il Sung who valued and showed warm love for the people, praising him as the peerlessly great person who attracted all people with unbounded benevolence.
Meanwhile, the Arab Committee for Solidarity with Korean People and Supporting the Reunification of Korea in Jordan made public a statement on April 24 on the occasion of the Day of the Sun. The statement said that Kim Il Sung would always be alive as the father not only of the Korean people but also of the world's revolutionaries struggling for freedom and equality.
Birthday of KPA Marked in Vietnam

Acto central por 118o aniversario del Primero de Mayo
Pyongyang, 1 de mayo (ATCC) -- Tuvo lugar el dia 30 en el capitalino Palacio Cultural del Pueblo el acto central por el 118o aniversario del Dia Internacional de los Trabajadores (primero de mayo).
En la ocasion participaron Kim Yong Nam, Kim Yong Il, el presidente de partido amigo, los funcionarios directivos de entidades de masas, funcionarios de ministerios y organos centrales, innovadores laborales y trabajadores capitalinos.
Al rendir el informe de la ocasion, el secretario del Comite Central del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Kim Jung Rin, dijo que a base del profundo analisis del curso de la epoca actual y las cambiadas relaciones de clases, el Dirigente Kim Jong Il dio la indicacion de celebrar el Primero de Mayo como fiesta solemne de los trabajadores realizando asi otra proeza en aras del cumplimiento de la causa de independencia de las masas del pueblo trabajador.

Bajo la bandera del Songun, los trabajadores coreanos llenos de la conviccion en la victoria glorifican la nueva epoca de la revolucion del Juche como los anales de prosperidad mas brillantes, contando con el Dirigente Kim Jong Il, gran hombre sin par del monte Paektu y gran defensor de la causa socialista. Esto es la maxima felicidad y gloria para los trabajadores coreanos.
Deben acelerar con dinamismo la marcha general de la revolucion del Songun, en pleno acato a la direccion del Dirigente, para abrir cuanto antes la puerta que de acceso a la gran potencia prospera socialista y llevar a feliz termino la causa revolucionaria del Juche.
Hay que frustrar tajantemente con las fuerzas unidas de la nacion las maniobras de las fuerzas conservadoras proyanquis en el poder del Sur de Corea encaminadas a la confrontacion con la RPDC y desplegar energicamente la lucha por la reunificacion independiente, la paz y la prosperidad para asi lograr cueste lo que cueste la causa historica de reunificacion de la patria.

CC de PTC ofrece banquete en honor de delegacion de PCB
Pyongyang, 1 de mayo (ATCC) -- El Comite Central del Partido del Trabajo de Corea ofrecio el dia 30 el banquete en honor de la delegacion del Partido Comunista de Brasil (PCB) presidida por su presidente nacional, Jose Renato Rabelo, de visita en Corea.
A la comida fueron invitados los miembros de la delegacion brasilena.
Participaron el secretario Choe Thae Bok, el subjefe de departamento Kim Thae Jong y otros funcionarios, del CC del PTC.
En su discurso Choe senalo que el PCB lucha planteando como una tarea importante de la labor partidista lograr la unidad y la cohesion de su organizacion y aglutinar amplias masas y anadio que el PCB obtiene los exitos en la lucha por mejorar el sistema de la educacion y la salud publica a traves de las medidas populares.
Y expreso conviccion de que las relaciones de amistad y cooperacion entre los partidos y los pueblos de los dos paises se desarrollaran aun mas de acuerdo con el ideal de la independencia, la paz y la amistad.
Jose Renato Rabelo en su discurso subrayo que el PCB y las fuerzas progresistas brasilenas apoyan activamente al PTC y el pueblo coreano que bajo la direccion del Dirigente Kim Jong Il luchan por lograr la reunificacion del pais y construir el gran Estado socialista prospero.
