Sokwang Temple under Restoration

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- A project to restore the Sokwang Temple, a valuable cultural heritage of the nation, is in progress in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The temple was built at the foot of Mt. Solbong in Kosan County, Kangwon Province, in the late 14th century.
The temple consisted of tens of buildings. The temple consummates legacies of excellent architecture and culture created by the Korean people in 500-odd years from the end of the 14th century to the early 20th century.
It is of historic and academic significance in studying different styles of architecture and unique construction methods of wood buildings developed by the sagacious Korean nation in hundreds of years.
But most of the buildings in the temple were completely destroyed by the indiscriminate bombing of the U.S. imperialists during the past Fatherland Liberation War.
Thanks to the Workers' Party of Korea's correct policy of preserving the cultural heritages of the nation, some buildings of the temple including the Puli Gate and Hoji Gate were restored to their original state later.
Researchers of Pyongyang University of Construction and Building Materials concentrated their efforts on designing the Sokwang Temple so that it may take full appearance as a temple. They, at the same time, went out to the spot to survey and discover sites of buildings representing the corresponding periods, thus confirming the outlines of the temple.
Basing themselves on historical records, photo materials and the data collected in the field survey, they confirmed the construction years of individual buildings which constitute the center of the temple and already worked out the designs of the Taeung Hall, Sugun Pavilion, Simgom Pavilion, Ungjin Hall and others to the restoration of which should be given definite precedence.
Thanks to the patriotic zeal of scientists, the Sokwang Temple will recover its old appearance in the near future.

Rodong Sinmun Calls for Maintaining Korean Way of Life

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- All party members and other working people should more thoroughly apply the Workers' Party of Korea's slogan "Let us live our own way!" in all fields of the revolution and construction today when the Korean revolution has entered a new historic turning point.
Rodong Sinmun today stresses this in an editorial.
The slogan reflects General Secretary Kim Jong Il's unshakable faith and will to accomplish the Korean revolution under the banner of the Juche idea no matter which way the wind may blow and how the situation may change.
Its validity and inexhaustible vitality have been fully manifested in the Korean revolution and construction over the past decades, the editorial says, and goes on:
The DPRK and its people are now demonstrating their dignity as an independent power which any enemy cannot dare to provoke and as the revolutionary people with a strong sense of national pride and indomitable mental power.
The tragic reality in many countries which are undergoing sufferings after falling a victim to the imperialists' arbitrary and high-handed practices and their scheme for "globalization" clearly shows that the road chosen and followed by the Korean people themselves is quite right.
No matter how the world may change and what way others may choose we should advance the revolution and construction our own way in our own right mind.
More thoroughly applying the said slogan is a very important work to advance the Korean revolution started in Mt. Paektu along the road of Juche forever, and upholding the slogan is an important requirement of the struggle to bring earlier the final victory in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
All party members and other working people should hold higher and thoroughly apply this slogan and thus demonstrate the independent dignity and the revolutionary stamina of Songun Korea advancing under the banner of the Juche idea.

Lee Myung Bak's Junkets to U.S. and Japan Assailed

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today runs a commentary branding traitor Lee Myung Bak's recent junkets to the United States and Japan as war-seeking trip.
During the junkets the traitor unveiled his bellicose intention to act a servant and a shock force in carrying out the outsiders' aggression policy for war in a bid to stifle the fellow countrymen by force and realize his design to invade the DPRK, the commentary notes, and says:
The Lee Myung Bak group begged its American masters to raise south Korea's "position of weapon-purchaser" to the level of NATO. This was a reckless action of the warmongers keen on military confrontation with the fellow countrymen.
What should not be overlooked is that the above-said trips were focused on laying and tightening a military siege to the DPRK through cooperation with the foreign forces. The traitor asked for the delay of "transfer of the right to control wartime operations" while promising to increase the upkeep for the U.S. military presence in south Korea. He also deliberated on such matters as building up the combined defense capability and jointly countering terrorism with the U.S. and tightening the U.S.-Japan-south Korea triangular military alliance. His actions revealed his dangerous scheme to stifle the DPRK by force with ease by zealously following the outsiders and further tightening the military tie-ups with them.
After all, Lee agreed with his U.S. and Japanese masters to further strengthen the cooperation for war against the DPRK during the trips. Such behavior made the triangular military alliance sharpen its spear of aggression aimed at the DPRK, bringing the actual danger of outbreak of war to the Korean Peninsula. Herein lies the dangerous and treacherous nature of the traitor's recent junkets.
Lee, hell-bent on sycophantic treachery and confrontation with the DPRK, did not hesitate to do such treacherous act as putting the destiny of the Korean nation on the outsiders' chopping-board called war, fawning on them. This is an anti-nation crime that can never be pardoned.

Japan's Moves for MD under Fire

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries are working hard to establish the missile defense system with the U.S., vociferating about "missile threat" from the DPRK and China.
Commenting on such moves, Rodong Sinmun today says:
The more undisguised moves for developing MD is an expression of craftiness peculiar to the Japanese reactionaries who have contracted a bad habit of picking on others to attain their aggressive aims.
Japan seeks to establish a new system for intercepting cruise missiles while being hell-bent on the development of MD with the U.S. The attempts have been prompted by its sinister intention to establish MD and boost the offensive capability of the "Self-Defence Forces" under the pretext of "defence" so as to mount preemptive attacks on other countries.
It is the unchangeable design of the Japanese militarists to turn Japan into a military power and realize overseas expansion.
They are scheming to make the Japanese islands a military offensive base for reinvasion of Korea and the rest of Asia by building MD as early as possible. This dangerous move hints that Japan is turning into a war state for aggression.
The Japanese reactionaries' intention is to launch overseas aggression by building up the SDF into armed forces of offensive style on the plea of non-existent "threat" from someone.
Such military moves are triggering off and accelerating a new arms race in Northeast Asia, rendering the regional situation strained.
Japanese reactionaries should not commit rash acts, clearly mindful that their moves for conversion of Japan into a military power and overseas expansion will bring only ruin upon themselves.

Suppression of Progressive Camp Denounced in S. Korea

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- 25 political parties and civic and social organizations of south Korea including the Democratic Labour Party, the Headquarters of the All-People Movement for Checking the south Korea-U.S. FTA, the Solidarity for Progress and the (south) Korean Confederation of Trade Unions called a joint press conference in Seoul on May 2 to denounce the security authorities for terming progressive camp "illegal" force.
Read out at the conference was a press release titled "We condemn Lee Myung Bak 'government' for seeking dictatorial regime by terming progressive political parties and organizations illegal ones."
It asserted that definition of legitimate mass organizations and political parties as organizations involved in illegal violence and demonstration is an open declaration of its stand to crack down upon all the forces that are critical of the "government" or stand against its policy, regarding them as illegal organizations.
The above-said political parties and civic and social organizations would stage dynamic struggle in solidarity with the progressive camp, it stressed.

Lee Myung Bak's Intention to Import Beef from U.S. Assailed

Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- As already reported, the present ruler of south Korea agreed to fully open its beef market for the U.S. during his junket to the U.S.
Traitor Lee Myung Bak committed such an intolerable crime to curry favor with his American master because he was only interested in pleasing the U.S. clean indifferent to the people.
Minju Joson Wednesday says this in a signed commentary.
The "pragmatic government" group, however, justifies the crime of fully opening the south Korean beef market for the U.S., the commentary notes, and goes on:
The "government" is busy calling for persuading the animal-raising families and the "Grand National Party" for the quick handling of the issue of the market-opening at the "National Assembly" while brushing aside the opposition parties' demand to hold a hearing on the beef issue.
It is clear that the Lee Myung Bak group is mad about the mad beef.
It is obvious that the Lee Myung Bak group should never be allowed to go scot-free as it is keen on driving the south Korean people's life into danger in return for filling the purses of the U.S. stock-breeders.
It is quite natural that the massive candlelight demonstrations against the import of beef from the U.S. are being staged in all parts of south Korea almost every day.
