Kim Jong Il Provides Field Guidance to Units in Kilju County and Kim Chaek City
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to various units in Kilju County and Kim Chaek City of North Hamgyong Province.
The first leg of his guidance was the Kilju Farm.
Going round the room for the dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge, a thrashing ground, a seed store, a nursery, a fish farm, a bath house, a barber's and other places, he was greatly satisfied to learn that the village has turned into a socialist land of bliss, a cradle of happiness, good to work and live in. He put forward the tasks to be fulfilled by the farm.
The per-hectare yield should be decisively raised to settle the food problem under the conditions of our country where the area of cultivated land is limited, he noted, adding that to this end it is necessary to put the farming on a scientific and technological basis as required by the Juche method of farming the advantages of which have been proved in practice and strictly adhere to the principle of the right crop on the right soil and the right crop in the right time.
In order to do the labor-consuming farm work with ease it is imperative to realize the comprehensive mechanization and steadily improve the management including labor organization, he noted.
He visited the family of ex-serviceman Sim Yong Chol of Workteam No. 4, which moved to a new house. He gave a warm pep talk to him and his family that are devoting themselves to the agricultural front, pleased to learn that they are leading the same happy life in the modern house with all amenities as that in a city.
The next leg of his guidance was the Kim Chaek Taehung Fishery Enterprise.
After looking round the room devoted to the history of the enterprise, he visited the canned fish workteam, a fish meal workteam and a wharf to acquaint himself in detail with the technological equipment and production there. He appreciated the efforts made by the officials and workers of the enterprise, saying that they have produced a lot of aquatic products and supplied them to the people in the past.
He underscored the need to more thoroughly establish a scientific fishing system and, at the same time, do the work to search for new fishing grounds under a long-term plan in order to catch fish under the changed fishing conditions.
After learning about sea culture including kelp, scallop and sea cucumber conducted by the enterprise, he called for simultaneously pushing forward fishing and sea culture and set forth tasks to be fulfilled to develop the fishing industry and ways to do so.
He went round the monument to the victory in the battle in the northern area of Korea, a historic relic.
The monument in Rimmyong-ri, Kim Chaek City, was erected in 1708 to commemorate the great victory Jong Mun Bu's volunteer corps won by decisively wiping out the Japanese aggression troops in Jangphyong, Rimmyong, Tanchon, Paekthap and other areas after their intrusion into Hamgyong Province during the Imjin Patriotic War (1592-98).
After being briefed on the monument, he went round it and acquainted himself with its preservation, management and use.
The monument is significant for studying the history of the struggle of our ancestors who valiantly fought against the enemy Japan's invasion and educating the younger generation in the Korean nation-first idea, he said, stressing the need to preserve and manage the monument, the precious historic relic, with good care and conduct effective education through it.
During his on-the-spot guidance to North Hamgyong Province, he got familiar with the overall work of the province and expressed great satisfaction over the fact that it has done a lot of work in less than one year since his on-the-spot guidance given in August last year.

Kim Jong Il Sends Message of Sympathy to Hu Jintao
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il Tuesday sent a message of sympathy to Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the C.C., the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of China.
The message said:
Upon hearing the sad news that a strong earthquake hit Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province of your country, claiming huge human and material losses, I send deep sympathy and consolation to you and, through you, to the Communist Party and the government of China and the people in the quake-hit area.
I hope that your people will eradicate the aftermath of the disaster as early as possible under the leadership of the CPC.
Credentials to Kim Yong Nam from Mongolian Ambassador
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, received credentials from Sodovjamts Khurelbaatar, Mongolian ambassador to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall today.
On hand were Kim Yong Il, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and staff members of the Mongolian embassy here.
After receiving the credentials, Kim had a talk with the ambassador.
Anniversary of Kim Il Sung's Work Marked
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- A national symposium in the field of medical science was held to mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of President Kim Il Sung's famous work "On Conducting Health and Sanitation Work in a Mass Campaign" at the Grand People's Study House on Tuesday.
Addressing the symposium, Ri Pong Hun, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Medical Association, said that the President published the work on May 4, Juche 47 (1958), clarifying the position of health and sanitation work in building socialist culture and the historical necessity to improve it and indicating the tasks to be fulfilled to develop it on the basis of the mass line and ways to do so.
The work clarifies theoretical and practical problems arising in intensifying sanitary information service to actively enlist broad masses in health and sanitation work and scrupulously organizing the work, he noted, explaining the originality of the ideas and theories expounded by the President.
He recalled that General Secretary Kim Jong Il advanced ideas and theories on further developing the public health service and saw to it that the policy of preventive medicine was consistently pursued as the basic principle in building socialist public health.
He referred to the great achievements made in hygienic and anti-epidemic work through a vigorous nationwide movement under the leadership of the party and the leader.

Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The participants of the regular meeting of the International Association of Technical Survey and Classification Institution laid a floral basket before the statue of President Kim Il Sung standing on Mansu Hill on Tuesday.

Week of DPRK-Iran Friendship Observed
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- A meeting and a film show were held at the Chollima House of Culture on Tuesday on the occasion of the week of the DPRK-Iran friendship.
Present there on invitation were Morteza Moradian, Iranian ambassador to the DPRK, and his embassy officials.
Jon Yong Jin, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who is vice-chairman of the DPRK-Iran Friendship Association, noted at the meeting that the DPRK and Iran set the week of bilateral friendship to significantly mark the anniversary of the historic meeting between President Kim Il Sung and leader Seyed Ali Khamenei and hold multifarious events every year.
Hoping that the Iranian people will, in the future, too, achieve greater success in the efforts for defence of the gains of the Islamic revolution, the economic construction and the improvement of the standard of people's living, he expressed the will to make positive efforts to boost the bilateral relations.
Morteza Moradian said that the friendly relations between the two countries are further developing under the deep care of the leaders of the two countries with each passing day.
Iran and the DPRK always stand together on the anti-imperialist front, he said, adding that his country extends full support to the Korean people in the efforts to build a great prosperous powerful nation and achieve the reunification of the country.

New Stamps Issued
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- Six kinds of new stamps reflecting famous historical relics of Mt. Ryongak and various species of mushrooms have been issued in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Printed in the stamps on historical relics are the Pobun Temple and Ryonggok Auditorium which are worthy of national treasure and their surrounding scenery.
The temple was built in the period of Koguryo (277 B.C. - 668 A.D.) and reconstructed in the period of the Ri Dynasty (1392-1910).
The Ryonggok Auditorium, which was built in 1656 as a local private educational institution, was reconstructed in 1713.
Other stamps reflect various kinds of mushrooms--Tricholoma terreum, Macrolepiota procera, Armillariella mellea, and Amanita muscaria.
Essence of Ideological Doctrine of Juche
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- Now the Korean people are giving fuller scope to the political and ideological might, the leading national power of Songun Korea, keeping a tight hold on the ideological doctrine of Juche as a treasured sword.
The essence of the ideological doctrine of Juche is that people's idea is the key to the revolutionary struggle and constructive work and everything is determined by it.
The idea mentioned in the ideological doctrine is not ideological consciousness in general but independent ideological consciousness.
Independent ideological consciousness is self-consciousness of being the master of one's own destiny and the will to shape one's destiny for oneself.
The ideological doctrine specifies that the people's idea is the key to the revolution and construction.
It means that the whole processes of the revolutionary struggle and constructive work are dominated by ideological consciousness.
The people's idea is the key to the revolution and construction because idea guides the popular masses to turn out in the revolutionary struggle and constructive work from the stand of the master and fulfil their revolutionary duties to the last with correct strategy and tactics.
The ideological doctrine also expounds that all things are determined by the idea of the people.
This is because idea is the decisive factor guiding the popular masses to play the role of the master in the revolution and construction.
The role of ideological consciousness in the revolutionary struggle and constructive work is enhanced with the development of the revolutionary movement in depth and progress of socialist construction.

KCNA Assails Opening of South Korean Markets to American Beef
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- Lee Myung Bak has totally opened the south Korean markets to American beef.
This is a grave criminal act of driving south Korea's stockbreeding to a bankruptcy and threatening the life of the south Korean people in a bid to please his American master.
This action taken by Lee to bring profits to U.S. stock breeders has put 87 percent of medium and small stockbreeding families in south Korea on the verge of bankruptcy.
The south Korean chief executive, who professes "pragmatism," must be well aware of the facts that most of the stockbreeding families in south Korea are too poor to compete with American beef and the pig-breeding families will also be hard hit by the above-said action.
The opening of south Korean markets to American beef is an unpopular action as it threatens the safety of the south Koreans.
It was reported in the U.S. recently that a man was killed by "mad cow disease" and infectious beef was sent back before being served.
In the light of the fact that the disease has a 10 year-long incubation period, the total allowance of the import of American beef means the import of "a time bomb".
That is why many countries are strictly banning the import of dangerous American beef despite of the U.S. pressure for the opening of their markets.
In order to calm down the strong protest of the south Korean people, Lee Myung Bak group is busy "persuading" the stockbreeding families, talking about "payment of bounty" and "increase of compensation".
But spilt milk can never be bottled again through such "stop-gap measure".
The Lee Myung Bak group is, indeed, the group of traitors forsaken by the people as it is gambling at the risk of the lives and properties of tens of millions of south Koreans.
To make matters worse, bird flu is rapidly spreading across south Korea, leaving lots of poultry dead, forcing poultry farms to kill them en masse and threatening even the lives of human beings.
Lee Myung Bak will have to pay a dear price for having brought double misfortune to the south Korean people by opening the markets to American beef at a time when they are hard hit by the bird flu.
The Korean nation will take stock of all acts of treachery committed by Lee.
S. Korea's War Moves against DPRK Assailed
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The warmongers of the south Korean puppet military are these days speeding up the introduction of latest war hardware while staging military exercises of different missions one after another, including the puppet air force's combined drills with the U.S. counterpart, to incite the fever of war against the DPRK.

What matters is the fact that such war moves are in relation to Lee Myung Bak's recent junket to the U.S.
During the junket, Lee begged the U.S. to cancel the planned reduction of its troops in south Korea and promised to cover the expenses for their upkeep as much as the U.S. demands, loudly talking about the "strategic alliance in the 21st century," "three principles of alliance" and the like.
The "strategic alliance," raised by Lee, is no more than a treacherous alliance as it is aimed to boost in an all-round way the collusion with the U.S., thus allowing it to intensify its domination and interference in south Korea in political, military, economic and all other fields and turning south Korea as a whole into an advanced base for the implementation of the U.S. aggression and war policy.
"Value," "confidence" and "peace building," advertised by him as the "three principles of alliance" between south Korea and the U.S., are just a revelation of his willingness to act a shock-force in carrying out the U.S. policy of war of aggression on the basis of American-style democracy and its doctrine of aggression and reactionary view on value.
Lee also asked the U.S. master to prolong the period of transferring the "the right to command the wartime operation" and raise the status of south Korea in buying American weapons to that of NATO. This was prompted by his sinister intention to invariably entrust the U.S. with the south Korea's military prerogative and purchase more weapons from it for mounting a preemptive attack on the fellow countrymen.
His junket to the U.S. was a dangerous war trip as it served to support the U.S. strategy for a war of aggression on the DPRK, thus deteriorating the inter-Korean relations and further aggravating the tense situation on the Korean Peninsula.
Should the Lee Myung Bak group persist in pro-U.S. sycophancy and confrontation with the fellow countrymen, it will not escape from a stern punishment by the nation.
Rodong Sinmun on U.S. Goal to Step up Arms Sale to south Korea
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- A "bill on improved military cooperation" between the U.S. and south Korea, a bill calling for raising the status of south Korea in buying American weapons, was brought up for discussion at U.S. Congress in February. In its wake the House Foreign Relations Committee recently passed a "bill" on raising the above-said status of south Korea to that of NATO.
The U.S. move to step up the sale of its weapons to south Korea in real earnest is a revelation of its invariable hostile policy towards the DPRK and a dangerous military move to mount a surprise preemptive attack on the DPRK. Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a signed commentary.
It is the scenario of the U.S. to neutralize the military operation capability of the DPRK through a surprise preemptive attack on it in contingency and conclude through blitz tactics the second Korean war with the involvement of U.S. reinforcements including task force from Japan, the Pacific including Guam and Hawaii and the U.S. mainland and the troops in south Korea and south Korean armed forces, the commentary notes, and goes on:
The U.S. proposed massive sale of its weapons to south Korea is aimed at tightening the "strategic alliance" with south Korea.
The U.S. and south Korea are linked with each other by the "mutual defense treaty."
If this "mutual defense treaty" is reinforced by a new "strategic alliance," it will help further tighten the "military alliance" targeted against the DPRK.
The tightened "strategic alliance" with south Korea much touted by the U.S. is a dangerous military nexus aimed at "strangling" the DPRK by force through reviving the already bankrupt "cooperation system."
The U.S. intends to intensify military activities after amassing latest military hardware in south Korea and lay a foundation for a new military bloc by drawing south Korean warmongers into it.
South Korea is now turning into a source of a new war, nuclear war and the situation on the Korean Peninsula is getting extremely tense due to the U.S. moves for bolstering combat forces.
U.S. Modernization of Military Hardware under Fire
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The U.S. recently conducted a test of the automatic missile system at a firing range in New Mexico State.

The new missile system being pushed forward according to the so-called "future plan for combat system," which calls for realizing the modernization of the U.S. armed forces, includes LAM and PAM.
The missile system is made up of the main body equipped with 15 missiles and facilities for handling communication and information. This system is reportedly aimed at conducting reconnaissance of the air above any battle field, shooting down unmanned mechanisms and destroying ground targets.
It is the invariable ambition and strategy of the U.S. imperialists to dominate the world after holding an unchallenged military edge, the commentary notes, and goes on:
The U.S. is the world's biggest possessor of nukes and missiles. It tops the world list of various type warships including carriers, warplanes and chemical weapons.
Nevertheless, it is putting spurs to the modernization of arms such as the moves to establish the missile defense system (MD).
In pursuance of the above-mentioned aim, the U.S. is working hard to build missile shields on the Korean Peninsula and in its vicinity and the East European region.

Lee Myung Bak Group's Anti-Reunification Act Condemned
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification issued a statement on May 7 denouncing the anti-reunification act of traitor Lee Myung Bak group.
Recalling that the "Institute for Education in Unification Issue" under the "Ministry of Unification" on May 6 issued a book titled "Understanding of north in 2008" which undisguisedly defiles the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, the statement demanded an immediate stop to the issue of the book.
The statement charged that the book seriously downplays the significance of the historical declarations, asserting that the declarations have "strong meaning as political declarations" and "lack a substantial discussion on the matters of confidence and peace" and the like.
Not content with speaking ill of the inter-Korean relations which have developed favorably in the past, Lee Myung Bak and the Grand National Party of south Korea are working with blood-shot eyes to downplay and impair even their significance, the statement said, and went on:
The Lee Myung Bak group of traitors' reckless act of deliberately ignoring the achievements made in the inter-Korean relations which have made rapid progress since the publication of the June 15 joint declaration is as foolish an act as trying to get the sun eclipsed by palms.
If the Lee Myung Bak group persists in sycophancy, submission and division while laying an obstacle in the way of peace, prosperity and reunification of the nation, it will not be able to escape a stern judgment of all the fellow countrymen.
The "Ministry of Unification" would be well advised to discharge its mission to implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.
Stop to S. Korean Authorities' Suppression of Juveniles Demanded
Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- Over 50 youth and children, educational and human rights organizations in south Korea held a joint press conference around "Chongwadae" in Seoul on May 9 to demand a stop to the suppression of juveniles.
At the press conference speakers accused the police of conducting on May 7 an investigation into the schools whose students participated in the struggle against the import of American beef, declaring that this is little short of suppression of people under the pretext of maintaining public security in the past period of dictatorship.
They stated that the authorities' labeling the action of juveniles "illegal" is part of the moves to totally put down the above-said struggle.
They demanded that the unreasonable suppression of them be stopped at once.
A press release read out then held that it is natural for youth and children to assert their rights, declaring that they would react to the authorities' suppression with strong actions in the future.

Simposio Nacional sobre obra de Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, 13 de mayo (ATCC) -- Tuvo lugar este martes en el capitalino Palacio Cultural del Pueblo el Simposio Nacional sobre las Ciencias Medicas por el 50o aniversario de la publicacion de la obra maestra del Presidente Kim Il Sung "Para llevar adelante las labores de salud publica e higiene mediante un movimiento masivo".
El presidente del Comite Central de la Asociacion de Medicos de Corea, Ri Pong Hun, senalo en su intervencion que el Presidente, al publicar el 4 de mayo del 47 (1958) de la Era Juche el trabajo, dilucido la posicion que ocupan las labores de salud publica e higiene en la construccion de la cultura socialista, la historica inevitabilidad de su mejoramiento, las tareas y los medios para desarrollarlas basandose en la linea de masas.
