Wreaths to Chinese Embassy
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee, the National Defence Commission and the Cabinet of the DPRK jointly sent a wreath to the Chinese embassy here on Tuesday in connection with the strong earthquake which hit Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province of China, causing huge human losses.
Wreaths were sent to the Chinese embassy by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of People's Security, the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Public Health, the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and other ministries and national institutions and working people's organizations on the same day.
Senior Party and State Officials Visit Chinese Embassy
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Senior party and state officials visited the Chinese embassy here Tuesday to express condolences as regards the strong earthquake that hit Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province of China, claiming huge human losses.
Among them were Kim Yong Chun, Choe Thae Bok, Vice-Premier of the Cabinet Ro Tu Chol, Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun, Minister of Public Health Choe Chang Sik who is chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK-China Friendship Association, acting Chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Mun Jae Chol, and Vice Department Director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea Pak Kyong Son.
They made entries in the mourner's book.
Officials of ministries, national institutions and working people's organizations also visited the embassy to express condolences.
On the same day diplomatic envoys of different countries here visited the embassy to express their mourning and made entries in the mourner's book.
Technology for Producing Raw Potato Farina Developed
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Han Tok Su Pyongyang University of Light Industry has developed the technology for producing raw potato farina and applied it to industrial production.
The farina is made by the method of dehydrating and drying potato in a certain temperature before grinding. Its production method and process are simple compared with those of making starch and boiled potato farina. Its energy consumption is lower and its actual extraction rate is higher than others.
The raw potato farina is also good for health as it keeps most of the nutritive substances even after production.
An analysis shows that it contains not a small amount of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and PP the starch does not have.
Having 56.47 milligrams of vitamin C per 100 grams, raw potato farina food for a meal is enough for people to take vitamin C needed for activity.
It, with various kinds of mineral matters such as K, Na and Mg, is used as raw material for cooking various foodstuffs.
The taste of the noodle, cake, bread, pancake, dumpling, fried dish and others made of the farina is as good as those made of rice or wheat flour.

Koguryo Ruler
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The Korean people used the Koguryo ruler, a cultural heritage of the nation, as the standard measuring tool in all fields of social life including architecture.
The ruler made of brass or iron has two arms 49.5 cm and 23.1 cm long respectively, which are connected vertically with each other. The long arm has a scale up to 10 chi (1chi is equal to 3.5 cm) on the outer edge of its front side and the short arm a scale up to 6 chi. The smallest unit of the basic scale is phun (1 phun equals 0.35 cm).
The outer edge of the backside of the long arm is marked with an angle scale called "Kumgang proportion" in architecture. The unit length of the angle scale is the diagonal line of a square each side of which is the unit length of the basic scale. The angle scale, which represents the characteristics and ingenuity of the ruler, played an important role in architecture.
This ruler was widely used in economic field including city planning, architecture, agriculture and handicraft and in daily life in Paekje, Silla and Palhae as well as Koguryo and used in Koryo until the middle part of the dynasty.
The wall of Pyongyang, the Anhak Palace, the Tomb of King Tongmyong and many other structures built in the years of Koguryo were designed and constructed with the help of the Koguryo ruler.
The ruler served as the basic tool in instituting main measuring units of area, volume and weight, too.
It was not a mere yardstick measuring length but a multipurpose means of measurement reflecting mathematic knowledge, which made a great contribution to the development of science and technology, economy and culture in those days.
Rodong Sinmun Calls for Carrying forward Work Style Displayed in Period of Great Chollima Surge

Japanese Reactionaries' Moves for "Triangular Military Alliance" under Fire
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- AFP has recently disclosed the fact that the Japanese ruling quarters are planning to conclude an all-inclusive military agreement with south Korea.
Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary says that what Japan seeks through the conclusion of the above-said military agreement is to knock into shape a "triangular military alliance" involving the U.S., Japan and south Korea targeted against the DPRK.

It is Japan's sinister aim to realize its wild ambition for overseas aggression and reinvasion of Korea, to be more specific, and to materialize its old dream of the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" through the "triangular military alliance."
It is as clear as noonday that the conclusion of the military agreement between Japan and south Korea would lead not only to forming the "triangular military alliance" but to carrying out the strategy for invading the DPRK. This would help the U.S., Japan and south Korea escalate their moves for military aggression against the DPRK and turn the Korean Peninsula into the world's biggest hot spot.
The army and people of the DPRK regard the socialist system as their life and soul as they built it at the cost of their blood. They will never pardon those who try to do harm to it.

U.S. and S. Korean Warmongers' Saber-Rattling under Fire
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The U.S. and south Korean warmongers are staging joint military exercises, while separately escalating the war maneuvers. This comes under fire by a signed commentary of Minju Joson Tuesday.
The situation on the Korean Peninsula is inching closer to the brink of war due to the U.S. and south Korean war-thirsty forces' frantic war exercises to invade the DPRK, the commentary says, and goes on:
What merits attention is that the moves of the U.S. and south Korean bellicose forces to provoke a war against the DPRK have become evermore pronounced since Lee Myung Bak came to power.
Lee is now rushing headlong into sycophancy toward the U.S. and confrontation with fellow countrymen while crying out for "tightened alliance" with the U.S. It is Lee group's ulterior intention to help the U.S. strengthen its domination over south Korea and increase its dependence on the former and do harm to fellow countrymen in reliance upon its master.
The U.S. warmongers regarded the seizure of power by Lee as the best chance to keep south Korea as its permanent colony and conquer the whole of Korea. Precisely for this reason the U.S. bellicose forces upgraded south Korea's status of purchasing American weaponry to the level of NATO and seek to use the puppet armed forces as a shock brigade and cannon fodder for a war of aggression against the DPRK, repeatedly delivering ultra-modern war equipment to south Korea and more frequently staging joint military exercises than ever before.
If the above-said saber-rattling is overlooked, it is as clear as noonday that the Korean nation can never escape a nuclear disaster. The army and people of the DPRK are keeping themselves fully ready to foil the U.S. and south Korean warmongers' moves for a war of aggression against the DPRK.
The U.S. would be well advised to face up to the reality, drop its aggressive policy toward the DPRK and urgently withdraw its troops from south Korea.
Renegotiations on Import of American Beef Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions released a statement on May 14, urging the "government" to declare the negotiations with the U.S. invalid and have renegotiations on the import of American beef.
The statement noted that some days ago, the U.S. trade mission announced the deceptive stand that "the U.S. recognizes south Korea's right to take necessary measures for protecting its people's health."
The south Korean "prime minister" described such gesture as the U.S. acceptance of the south Korean "government's" stand that the import of American beef will be suspended in case of the outbreak of mad cow disease in the U.S., the statement said, terming it a sinister trick to calm down the anti-"government" struggle waged by the people of different social standings to protest against the import of American beef.
The authorities should totally nullify the content of negotiations on the import of American beef before mocking at the people, the statement held.
What the people have called for is not such deceptive trick and unreasonable justification of the "government" and the announcement of the arrogant U.S. stand, the statement said, demanding again that the "government" declare the negotiations with the U.S. invalid and have renegotiations, though belatedly.
Anti-"Government" Struggle Called for in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification issued a statement on May 15 to call on youth and students to take the lead in the struggle against the "government."
The statement said that the struggle against the import of American beef is growing stronger while the supporting rate for the conservative ruling quarters is drastically falling down.
Noting that the "government" and conservative media are spreading the rumor about "wire-pulling forces" in a bid to distort and frustrate the just struggle of the popular masses, the statement urged the progressive camp to strengthen their solidarity and unity and more vigorously wage the candlelight struggle to cope with it.
Calling for the all-out struggle to check the crisis of war escalated by the Lee Myung Bak regime and protect the lives of the masses, it underscored the need to disclose before the whole world the plot of the U.S. and the sycophantic and treacherous crimes of Lee Myung Bak and thus develop the ongoing candlelight struggle into an anti-U.S. and anti-Lee Myung Bak struggle.
The statement said that youth and students together with all other people should develop the present struggle into the struggle for national independence in combination with the movement for implementing the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.
Anti-Popular Policy of Lee Myung Bak Censured in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The People's Measure Council against the Total Opening of south Korean Market to American Beef and the Joint Conference against the Abandonment of Public Education in south Korea cosponsored a candlelight rally in Seoul on May 17 in protest against the anti-popular policies shaped by traitor Lee Myung Bak.
Present there were members of the civic and public organizations and political parties, citizens and students, more than 40,000 all told.
Speakers at the rally charged that traitor Lee has driven all the people to uneasiness with such anti-popular policies as the import of American beef, marketing of education and conversion of the public enterprises into private ownership.
Saying that the candlelight upheld by the people is flaring more ragingly despite the "government's" conciliatory and tough policy, they warned that if the authorities ignore the demand of the people, failing to squarely see the reality, they will be doomed to destruction.

Treacherous Acts of Lee Myung Bak Assailed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- People of different social standings staged actions in Kwangju of south Korea to denounce traitor Lee Myung Bak's sycophancy towards the U.S. and treachery on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the May 18 Kwangju Popular Uprising.
A people's rally to inherit the spirit of the resistance fighters took place in front of the South Jolla Provincial Office on May 18 under the sponsorship of the committee for the functions to commemorate the May 18 resistance for democracy.
Speakers at the rally said that all the policies pursued by the present "government" including the opening of south Korean market to American beef are quite contrary to the people's mind-set, branding Lee Myung Bak as a reactionary of history.
They declared they would carry forward the spirit of the participants in the May resistance, who fought against the fascist dictatorship, to wage actions against the Lee Myung Bak "government".
They called upon all the people to put an end to the outsiders' moves for domination and division and fight against the authorities' neo-liberal "globalization".
The rally made public a May declaration clarifying such demands as "attainment of independent reunification", "abolition of part-time jobs", "nullification of the negotiations on the import of American beef" and "stop to the conclusion of FTA."

They called upon all the people to take an active part in the candlelight actions by inheriting the spirit of the May resistance to check the import of American beef.
That day, a demonstration took place in protest against Lee's Kwangju junket.
An "eve event" on the theme of "Turning out in Kumnam Street again" took place at the plaza in Kumnam Street on May 17 with more than 10,000 members of civic and social organizations and students of middle and high schools attending.
Its participants watched videos dealing with the May Kwangju Popular Uprising and the course in which the Lee Myung Bak "government" conducted negotiations on the import of American beef.
The participants warned "if the government forgets history, it will trigger off the second and third May resistance."

Organizacion estudiantil surcoreana llama a la lucha contra el "gobierno"
Pyongyang, 20 de mayo (ATCC) -- En su declaracion fechada 15, la Direccion Surena de la Alianza Pannacional de la Juventud y los Estudiantes por la Reunificacion de la Patria (APJERP) llamo a los jovenes y estudiantes a ponerse al frente de la lucha contra el "gobierno".
La declaracion se refirio a la escalada de la lucha contra la importacion de la carne de res norteamericana y a la caida en picada del porcentaje de apoyo a las fuerzas conservadoras en el poder.
Critico que el "gobierno" y los medios de prensa conservadores intentan tergiversar y acabar con la lucha justa del pueblo difundiendo el "rumor de las supuestas fuerzas que la instigan por detras" y subrayo que para hacer frente a ese intento, el campo de las fuerzas progresistas debe fortalecer la solidaridad y la alianza y librar mas dinamicamente la campana con velas encendidas.
Senalo que todos deben levantarse en la lucha por defender la vida del pueblo al detener la crisis de guerra que se agudiza por el "poder" de Lee Myung Bak y destaco la necesidad de convertir la actual campana con velas encendidas en la lucha antiyanqui y anti-Lee Myung Bak para revelar a todo el mundo el complot de Estados Unidos y los crimenes vendepatrias y serviles a grandes potencias de Lee.

Pyongyang, 20 de mayo (ATCC) -- Las reglas de Coguryo, patrimonios culturales de la nacion coreana, se utilizaron ampliamente como la pauta de medicion en la arquitectura y otras esferas sociales.
Las reglas hechas con laton o hierro tienen dos brazos de 49.5 y 23.1 centimetros, respectivamente, entrelazados en forma vertical.
En el borde exterior de la parte delantera del brazo largo estan grabadas las escalas principales a lo largo de 10 chi (un chi equivale a 3.5 centimetros) y en el brazo corto, a lo largo de 6 chi. La unidad mas pequena de las escalas principales es phun (un phun equivale a 0.35 cm).
Las reglas de Coguryo se utilizaron ampliamente no solo en este Estado feudal, sino tambien en Paekje, Silla, Palhae y hasta mediados del periodo de Coryo para el diseno urbano, la arquitectura, la agricultura, la artesania y otras esferas de la vida economica y la cotidiana.
Fueron empleadas en los disenos y construccion de muchos edificios del periodo de Coguryo como la Ciudadela de Pyongyang, el Palacio Real de Anhak y la Tumba del rey Tongmyong.
Sirvieron de base en la fijacion de las principales unidades de medicion como la superficie, el volumen y la masa.
Las reglas de Coguryo no se usaron unicamente como simple pauta de longitud sino tambien como medio universal en que se aplicaron los conocimientos matematicos.
Ellas hicieron gran aporte al desarrollo de la ciencia, tecnica, economia y cultura de aquel entonces.
Rodong Sinmun denuncia intencion de Japon de agredir de nuevo a Corea
Pyongyang, 20 de mayo (ATCC) -- La agencia francesa AFP reporto recientemente que el circulo del poder de Japon trata de concertar un convenio militar integral con el Sur de Corea.
Al respecto, el diario Rodong Sinmun publico este martes un comentario individual que sigue:
Lo que persigue Japon con la firma de ese pacto es formar la "alianza militar tripartita" con EE.UU. y el Sur de Corea, que le facilitaria satisfacer su ambicion expansionista, especificamente, agredir de nuevo a Corea y llevar a la realidad su anejado sueno sobre la "esfera de coprosperidad de gran Asia oriental".
Resulta obvio que cuando quede firmado el pacto militar entre Japon y el Sur de Corea, ambos constituiran la "alianza militar tripartita" junto con EE.UU. y entraran en la implementacion de la agresiva estrategia sobre la RPDC.
Por consiguiente, se veran intensificadas las maniobras militares de ese bloque trilateral contra la RPDC convirtiendo la Peninsula Coreana en la zona mas candente de este mundo.
El ejercito y el pueblo de la RPDC, que consideran como su vida el regimen socialista conquistado a costa de sangre, nunca perdonan a los que intenten destruirlo.
Los reaccionarios japoneses deben actuar con razon al reflexionar seriamente de las nefastas consecuencias que emanen de sus maniobras para formar la "alianza militar tripartita".
