U.S. Warmongers' Ceaseless Saber Rattling Assailed
Pyongyang, July 1 (KCNA) -- The U.S. bellicose forces staged joint air military exercises together with the south Korean war-like forces in the U.S. air base in south Korea for about a week from June 16 swimming against the trend of the times. Involved in the war maneuvers were over 90 air-striking means including fighters of the U.S. air force in Pacific, its mainland and in south Korea and the south Korean puppet air force.
Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary brands the above-mentioned war maneuvers as a premeditated playing with fire aimed at escalating the military confrontation and tension on the Korean Peninsula and driving its situation to the catastrophic phase of war and an adventurous war gambling designed to make a preemptive strike at the DPRK.
It goes on:
The U.S. introduced into the above-said exercises B-52 which earned ill fame for its armed invasion and war of aggression against other countries in the past. This is a revelation of its dangerous scenario to make a preemptive nuclear strike at the DPRK any time.
The U.S. oft-repeated talk that it has "no intention to attack" the DPRK can convince no one as it sounds hypocritical. It is nothing but a deceptive artifice veiled with the smokescreen of peace as it is aimed at disarming the army and people of the DPRK mentally and militarily and realizing its war scenario to invade it.
If the U.S. is truly willing to settle pending issues peacefully through dialogue with the DPRK, it should refrain from such provocative acts as leveling its gun at the dialogue partner.
Dialogue and saber rattling can never go together. The danger of war can never be removed from the Korean Peninsula nor can peace settle on it as long as the U.S. persists in its moves to ignite a war of aggression against the DPRK in a bid to stifle it by force of arms.
The U.S. had better behave itself, pondering over the consequences to be entailed by its anti-DPRK military hysteria which may derail dialogue and disturb peace.
Participation in RIMPAC Joint Military Exercises Assailed
Pyongyang, July 1 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppet war maniacs are taking part in the U.S.-led aggressive RIMPAC joint military exercises that kicked off in the waters off the Pacific region on June 29.
They let destroyers, submarines, sea patrol planes and many other war hardware participate in the exercises.
These exercises which the U.S. has staged since early in the 1970s with its satellite forces are, in fact, dangerous war maneuvers targeted against the DPRK.
The south Korean puppet military authorities did not hide the fact that the exercises are aimed at increasing the "joint operational capacity" in the sea.
The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification, an organization of the movement for peace against war of south Korea, issued a statement denouncing the exercises on the same day, in which it held that the above-said exercises are designed to establish U.S. domination over Northeast Asia and increase the U.S.-led joint operational capacity and enhance the effect of strategic weapons and ultra-modern precision strike weapons.
The gravity of the exercises lies in that they are closely linked with the moves to knock into shape a "triangular military alliance" involving the U.S., Japan and south Korea, it noted.
The statement demanded the U.S. and the south Korean authorities stop the joint military exercises and the moves for the formation of the "triangular military alliance" as they are going against the trend toward peace and opt for the conclusion of a peace agreement on the Korean Peninsula and disarmament there.
Struggle against Lee Myung Bak and for Peace against War Called for in S. Korea
Pyongyang, July 1 (KCNA) -- The Headquarters of Struggle of the 16th-term south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) issued a statement on June 26 calling for turning out in the struggle against Lee Myung Bak and for peace against war.
The statement recalled that the candlelight actions against American beef import are gaining in scope and strength day by day in south Korea.
Beef import is now under fire worldwide for being a humiliating "drain on resources," the statement noted, adding that this is attributable to the "alliance" with the U.S.
Declaring that Hanchongryon would wage a strenuous struggle against Lee Myung Bak and the U.S., the statement stressed that all the fellow students of Hanchongryon would rise up in the struggle against the U.S. and for peace against war.
Hanchongryon will turn out as one in the actions for independence of the people and their right to existence during the June 25-September 8 period of the joint movement of Pomchonghakryon (National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification) for peace against war in order to achieve genuine independence and peace on this land, it added.
Additional Negotiations on Beef Import Assailed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, July 1 (KCNA) -- The chairmen of policy-making committees of opposition parties in south Korea, including the Democratic Party for Unity and the Democratic Labor Party, at a seminar condemned as ineffective the additional negotiations on the import of American beef which failed to protect the south Koreans' health and quarantine sovereignty, CBS of south Korea reported on June 28.
They said that the recent additional negotiations, which allowed export and import of American beef to be dealt with at will of U.S. and south Korean traders, were no more than a trick to hoodwink the people employed by the Lee Myung Bak "government" frightened at their candlelight actions.
They warned that any part of cattle fraught with the danger of "mad cow disease" might be imported if the candlelight actions die out.
53rd Candlelight Rally Held in S. Korea
Pyongyang, July 1 (KCNA) -- The 53rd candlelight rally was held in Seoul on June 29 in protest against the import of American beef with at least 10,000 people from all walks of life attending.
Citizens of different social standings gathered around Jongro and held the rally despite the police suppression.
Speakers said at the rally that the Lee Myung Bak group is branding the participants in the candlelight rally as "Reds and pro-communist elements". They denounced the "government" for suppressing the citizens with the old assertion dating back to the era of dictatorship and the conservative media for misinterpreting the voices of the people, backed by capital and power.
The Lee group made public "talks to the people" one after another, they recalled, adding that the people regard them as no more than rubbish.
The Lee Myung Bak "government" is sadly mistaken if it thinks it can stay in power through recourse to violence, they warned, calling upon all the people to turn out in the street to judge the group of traitors.
At the end of the rally its participants staged a demonstration.
Vehicles passing by responded to the demonstrators by sounding horns.
Fascist Violence Committed against Participants in Candlelight Actions in S. Korea
Pyongyang, July 1 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppet regime is openly threatening the participants in the candlelight actions against the import of American beef, more undisguisedly revealing its attempt at fascist violence against them.
The minister of Justice, the minister of Administration and Security, the minister of Labor, the minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the room chief of the "prime minister" issued an "emergency joint statement" on June 29 in which they blustered that "not only those who spearhead and agitate radical and violent demonstrations but also assaulters would be chased and arrested to the last and legal actions would be taken against them and they would be forced to pay compensation."
They also threatened to brand the general strike of the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and its struggle to prevent the American beef from being taken out of stores as a "strike for a political purpose" and an "illegal group action" and hold those involved in them accountable for them under any circumstances.
They went the lengths of falsifying the truth of the situation by claiming that the demonstrators are opposing the "government's" implementation of its just policy, departing from the issue of beef though it did its utmost at the additional negotiations on the import of American beef and they reflected most of the people's demands. Oft-repeating the above-said claim, they asserted that they are compelled to take strong counter-actions against demonstrators including the spraying of liquid tear gas.
Meanwhile, the puppet police authorities perpetrated such fascist outrage as arresting 55 demonstrators and wounding hundreds of protesters, while violently cracking down upon the fierce candlelight actions of people from all walks of life staged from the evening of June 28 to the morning of the next day.
The number of the demonstrators who had been arrested by the police for their involvement in the candlelight actions against the total opening of south Korean markets to American beef since May 24 reached more than 830 and nine of them are still in custody.
The police authorities, pursuant to the action taken by the puppet regime on June 29, disclosed their attempt to massively crack down upon the candlelight struggle.
