The officials and workers of the mine have planted lots of trees along the belt conveyor stretching farther into the sea for decades.
Several dozen hectares of woods have extended from Kumsan Bay to Nunggum Islet and then to Ung Islet and now, changing its course, is stretching from Nunggum Islet to Jwi Islet.

Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Observed
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification", a work of General Secretary Kim Jong Il, serves as an undying library which clearly indicates the way to be followed by the Korean nation's movement for national reunification and a militant banner which dynamically promotes the advance of the June 15 era of reunification, says Rodong Sinmun Monday in a signed article.
The work comprehensively deals with the immortal feats performed by President Kim Il Sung in the cause of national reunification and clearly indicates the tasks to be fulfilled to settle the issue of the country's reunification on the principle of national independence and great unity in accordance with his intention and behest and the ways to do so.
It is a great historic feat performed by Kim Jong Il that he in the work formulated the three principles of national reunification, the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo advanced by the President as the three charters for national reunification and provided a militant banner which powerfully arouses all the fellow countrymen to the drive to carry out his instructions for reunification, the article notes, and goes on:
The historic events that have taken place for the past 11 years since the publication of the work and remarkable achievements made in the struggle for national reconciliation and unity and the independent and peaceful reunification of the country in this period are a clear proof of the attraction and vitality of the work.
The key to achieving the reunification of the country and exalting the dignity and honor of the nation is to invariably uphold the idea, line and policy of the President for national reunification as a banner in the June 15 era of reunification.
It is the basic way of settling the issue of the country's reunification at an early date in line with the will and interests of the Korean nation to carry out the cause of national reunification independently on the principle of national independence.
The historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, a programme for its implementation, serve as great programmes for achieving independent national reunification as they correctly reflect the Juche-based idea and line of the President for national reunification.
The idea of "By our nation itself" is the basic spirit of these declarations.
When all the fellow countrymen are united close under the banner of great national unity, they can overcome any difficulties and certainly achieve the cause of national reunification.

After all the south Korean people may suffer damage by not only mad cow disease but also X-rays, the organization pointed out, declaring that it would launch the above-said campaign to protect the people's right to health.
Action of Pomchonghakryon Reunification Vanguard Started in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The 21st-term Reunification Vanguard of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon) on August 1 started its action to stage a grand candlelight march for sovereignty and peace against war and conduct a struggle demanding renegotiations on American beef import and punishment of Lee Myung Bak and opposing Bush's trip to south Korea.
Jong Tok Won, chief of the vanguard, made an address at the ceremony of starting its action held in front of the U.S. embassy in Seoul on the same day.
He said that the vanguard would be organized around August 15 this year, too, to stir up the atmosphere of reunification across south Korea.
The organization will conduct its activities in real earnest with Bush's trip to south Korea as an occasion, he noted, adding:
It will vigorously wage information activities and struggle for peace against war in Seoul, Inchon and Kyonggi Province till August 7, holding high the slogans "Renegotiations on American beef import!" and "Opposition to Bush's trip to south Korea!"
After that it will stage an all-people grand candlelight march to punish the Lee Myung Bak "government" and retake the lost sovereignty, touring all parts of south Korea, divided into the east and west groups.
It is as clear as noonday that Lee Myung Bak's days will be numbered if he disregards and cracks down upon the people as the military dictators in the past did, the chief said.
Letters of protest to traitor Lee Myung Bak and Bush were read out at the ceremony.
The letters urged Lee to stop tightening the "alliance" for aggression with the United States, implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and the United States to come out to the total renegotiations on beef import as soon as possible.
At the end of the ceremony the vanguard conducted information activities in different parts of Seoul.
Scheme to Put Media under "Gov't" Control Slashed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- A candlelight rally took place outside the KBS Office of south Korea on August 1 to accuse traitor Lee Myung Bak of his scheme to put broadcasting stations under the "government" control.
Attending it were members of the all-people action against the scheme to control broadcasting stations and suppression of netizens and citizens, over 500 in all.

Lee Myung Bak Regime's Submissive Diplomacy Blasted
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The South Side Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification issued a statement on July 30 flaying the Lee Myung Bak regime's submissive diplomacy.
The statement deplored the fact that Japan recently announced that it would write Tok Islet as part of the Japanese territory in the "new teaching guidelines" for the social subjects of primary and middle schools of Japan and in its wake the U.S. Board on Geographic Names marked the islet as an area of undesignated sovereignty.
This deplorable development was the tragic result of the submissive diplomacy pursued by the Lee Myung Bak "government", the statement noted, and continued:
Lee is encouraging Japan in its moves to revive militarism, talking about "future-oriented development of relations, without asking about its past" though it is seized with its wild ambition to grab other's territory. Moreover, Lee is begging the U.S. for "closer alliance" though it pressurized south Korea to import beef from cattle infected with mad cow disease.
The sycophantic diplomacy pursued by the group of traitors in subservience to the policies of aggression of the U.S. and Japan while talking about "friendship" and "alliance" resulted in infringing upon the right to quarantine, the territorial sovereignty and the right to existence on this land.
The people condemn the Lee "government" for kowtowing to the U.S., taking a foolish attitude towards Japan and following a perfidious policy towards the nation.
If the Lee "government" continues yielding to the U.S. and Japan, it will face all-people resistance, warned the statement.

Three Charters for Korea's Reunification Supported
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Personages of Indonesia and Thailand issued statements in support of the three charters for Korea's reunification.
The chairman of the Indonesian Maritime Transport Workers Union in a statement on July 26 recalled that General Secretary Kim Jong Il formulated the three principles of national reunification, the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo as the three charters for national reunification on August 4, 1997.
He said it was thanks to the three charters that the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration was adopted eight years ago, greatly contributing to relaxing the tension on the Korean Peninsula and opening up a new era of reconciliation and cooperation.
He declared that they would always extend full support to the Korean people in the just struggle to achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country in the basic spirit of the three charters.
A former lawmaker of Thailand in a statement on July 30 praised the three charters as the guidelines that should be held fast to by all the Koreans aspiring after the national reunification.
