Pyongyang, September 30 (KCNA) -- The south Korean People's Measure Council against the Total Opening of south Korean Markets to American Beef on Sept. 26 denounced the puppet authorities for pushing forward measures to more brutally crack down upon the participants of candlelight actions.
The organization recalled that that day an official concerned of the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office blustered that "a proposal is now under consideration to treat as 'chronic offenders' those who were once punished for participating in illegal violent meetings or those who are likely to spearhead an extreme demonstration again in the future among those accused of being involved in candlelight demonstrations."
Earlier, the organization disclosed the fact that the prosecution examined even a proposal for branding those who participated in the actions including "protests against the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek and the struggle to check the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. "FTA" as "habitual demonstrators".
These reckless actions of the authorities are an extension of the repressive measure called "proposal for sternly dealing with any illegal group action" set forth by the Ministry of Justice in March last.
The measures taken by the security authorities to intensify the violent crackdown are reckless ones for suppressing the freedom of assembly and demonstration and an outright infringement on human rights as they are aimed at branding the people of various strata who participated in the candlelight actions as "potential criminals".
The organization demanded the Lee "government" stop at once its anti-human rights and unpopular actions to revive the method of suppressing people dating back to the past period of fascist dictatorship.
