Head of DPRK Delegation Calls for Closer South-South Cooperation

Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- Pak Kil Yon, DPRK vice-minister of Foreign Affairs who is heading its delegation, addressed the meeting of foreign ministers of the group of 77 held at the U.N. Headquarters on Sept. 26. He expressed the DPRK's views on adopting the joint stand of the group on important items concerning economic and social affairs included in the agenda of the 63rd UN General Assembly. Underscoring the need for the group to boost the capability for joint actions for effectively meeting worldwide challenges in economic and social affairs, he called for putting on a more organized and positive footing collective actions for protecting the interests of its member states at the U.N. and on other international fora on the basis of its joint strategy and action program adopted at the South summits. He also underlined the need to counter through practical joint actions the practices to put unjust political conditionalities upon the member countries of the group and all forms of coercive measures taken against them in the international economic relations, in particular. Urging the group to consider it as its firm policy guidelines to boost the South-South cooperation and expand it, he called for making redoubled efforts to sincerely implement action programs and projects for South-South cooperation adopted at Havana and Doha summits and various other meetings in conformity with new environment and conditions. In this context, the DPRK delegation deemed it important to develop the existing process of South-South cooperation into the establishment of South-South economic relations with a view to ensuring the practicability of the above-said cooperation and increasing its effect, he noted, and continued: It is the consistent stand of the DPRK government to boost the above-said cooperation. The DPRK government will as always fulfill its responsibility and duty for establishing a new international economic order based on justice, equality and impartiality and boosting the South-South cooperation based on collective self-reliance. |
