Pyongyang, October 1 (KCNA) -- The south Korea-U.S. "mutual defence treaty" is an aggressive, brigandish and unequal military "treaty" as it legalizes and justifies the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces' permanent presence in south Korea, their moves to provoke a war against the DPRK and their robber-like arbitrary practices and all sorts of atrocities and imposes only submission, disgrace and sufferings upon the south Korean people. Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed commentary carried 55 years since the U.S. imperialists fabricated the above-said "treaty." The commentary goes on: By cooking up the "treaty" the U.S. imperialists laid a "legal foundation" for keeping south Korea under their occupation for an indefinite period contrary to the will and wishes of the Korean nation and launching armed invasion against the DPRK any moment they deem necessary. Herein lie the aggressive nature and danger of the "treaty." The blood-stained history of the U.S. presence in south Korea saliently reveals the aggressive and predatory nature of this "treaty," the commentary notes, and goes on: The above-said "treaty" is nothing but an illegal and aggressive document devoid of any justification to remain valid either from the viewpoint of international law or in the light of the aspiration and wishes of the Korean nation. Accordingly, it should have been annulled long ago. Nevertheless, the U.S. is persistently pursuing its policy of keeping south Korea under its occupation and the moves for confrontation and war against the DPRK on the strength of the "treaty" although the Cold War demised and the Korean nation lives in the June 15 era of reunification. The Korean people can never remain an onlooker to the reckless acts of the U.S. and the Lee Myung Bak group, its lackeys, driving the inter-Korean relations and the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the evermore deplorable phase, while beclouding the prospect of the peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue and the six-party talks. The U.S. and the south Korean authorities would be well advised to properly understand the trend of the times and the will of the Korean nation and opt for immediately scrapping the "treaty" and withdrawing the U.S. forces from south Korea without delay. |
