Noting that October is a significant month to the Korean people, he said in the statement: President Kim Il Sung embarked on the road of revolutionary struggle against the Japanese imperialists' military occupation of Korea in his early years. He formed the Down-with-Imperialism Union in 1926 and founded the WPK on Oct. 10, 1945, less than two months after the liberation of the country.

The statement recalled that under the wise leadership of the WPK the Korean people overcame the harsh ordeals of war enforced by the U.S., gave a telling blow to the U.S. imperialists and fulfilled the historic task of socialist industrialization in a short span of time.

The might of the WPK with General Secretary Kim Jong Il as its general secretary, the general staff of the revolution, was evidently manifested in the fact that it powerfully aroused the Korean people to the struggle for defending socialism despite the collapse of socialist countries in Eastern Europe and the successive grave difficulties, it stressed.
