Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- The International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea issued a statement on Oct. 2 on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo (DFRK) and the first anniversary of the historic October 4 declaration. The statement said that it was the great historic feat performed by President Kim Il Sung that he advanced the proposal for founding the DFRK on the basis of a deep analysis of the issue of the country's reunification, thus making it possible for the Koreans to reunify their country by their own efforts. Noting that General Secretary Kim Jong Il formulated the proposal for founding the DFRK as a major part of the three charters for national reunification, the statement said that the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration which were published at the historic north-south summit meetings that took place thanks to his bold decision gave a powerful impetus to the movement for Korea's reunification. The statement continued: The Lee Myung Bak group hell-bent on sycophancy toward the U.S. is not only denying the historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration but is checking cooperation and exchange between the north and the south. It is also pushing the situation on the Korean Peninsula to an extreme pitch of tension, pursuant to the U.S. imperialists' policy to stifle the DPRK. The world progressive forces should urge the south Korean authorities to opt for implementing the above-said declarations but never allow the Lee group to pursue its bellicose anti-reunification policy. They should strongly demand the U.S. stop throwing a hurdle in the way of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, sincerely honor its commitments, roll back its hostile policy toward the DPRK and withdraw its aggression forces from south Korea without delay. Solidarity rallies, seminars and lectures took place in Mongolia and Ethiopia from Sept. 22 to Oct. 3 on the above-said occasions. |
