Pyongyang, October 12 (KCNA) -- South Koreans of different social strata are waging a struggle against the moves of the Lee Myung Bak group of traitors to distort history. More than 20 organizations related to the history called a press conference in Seoul on Oct. 8 at which they issued a joint statement denouncing the Lee group for its farce intended to rewrite history textbooks. The statement accused the group of calling for the overall rewriting of history textbooks, claiming that "they are written to meet the leftist purpose." It denounced the "government" for raising even the issue of "changing the authority" to rewrite history textbooks as demanded by conservative organizations which have nothing to do with the history circle. Such moves of the Lee group to tamper with history are aimed to justify pro-U.S. and pro-Japanese acts and the fascist dictatorship in the past, held the statement. In the meantime, organizations related to history and education of south Korea including the Institute for National Studies, the Institute for History Studies, the National Teachers Union and the Society of Parents for Genuine Education have launched a full-dressed struggle after organizing a preparatory committee for the formation of the Joint Measure Committee for the Settlement of the Issue of Textbooks. |
