Pyongyang, October 13 (KCNA) -- A preparatory committee for the joint measure committee for settling the issue of history textbooks grouping organizations for history studies, educational organizations and teachers in south Korea called a press conference in Seoul on October 9 in denunciation of the puppet authorities' moves for the retrogressive revision of history textbooks. Speakers at the press conference accused the authorities of working hard to make a retrogressive revision of history textbooks these days, asserting that "the existing history textbooks are written to meet the leftist purpose." This is absolutely intolerable, they said, declaring that all the academic and educational circles, civic and public organizations and parents of students will pool their efforts to strongly counter the above-mentioned moves. A press release read out there assailed the authorities for putting pressure upon publishing houses and other institutions to rewrite even those history textbooks which had undergone proper screening according to the necessary procedure, finding fault with them. It also charged that some educational inspectors are taking issue with the contents of the present textbooks, talking about "ideological deviation" and openly trying to exercise influence on the screening of textbooks. Terming these actions anachronistic ones as they make the textbook screening system meaningless and moves to bring back the past period of dictatorship, the press release urged the authorities to immediately stop the moves for the retrogressive revision of textbooks. |
