"By our nation itself" is the main spirit of the October 4 declaration as is the case with the June 15 joint declaration.

The above-said spirit gives a powerful impetus to the struggle to adhere to the historic October 4 declaration and implement it.

The spirit powerfully encourages all compatriots at home and abroad to creditably perform their role, united close as one under the banner of reunification, keenly aware of their responsibility as the driving force for the movement for national reunification.

It is the essence of the above-said spirit that all Koreans should solve the issue of national reunification by their concerted efforts in line with the independent will and wishes of the nation, aware of being responsible for achieving it.

The spirit of "By our nation itself" serves as a powerful engine encouraging all Koreans to implement the October 4 declaration as it is the main spirit of the historic October 4 declaration and embodies the consciousness of national independence and the idea of great national unity.

The moves of the Lee Myung Bak group in south Korea to hamstring the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration find a concentric manifestation in its efforts to stamp out the spirit of "By our nation itself" enshrined in the hearts of the Korean nation as the patriotic idea for reunification.

The October 4 declaration is not something that one is allowed to fail to implement in the way of developing the inter-Korean relations and achieving national reunification.

Whether national reunification is achieved or not hinges on how to implement the above-said north-south joint declarations.
