Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- A sphere of standardization is steadily expanding in the DPRK. New dimensions are added to standardization today to cover the overall sphere of social life encompassing economic management, information technology and public catering and service and it is playing an ever greater role. In recent years, the application of state standards to Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia, the flowers of the sun, was carried out in a short period in response to the earnest desire of all the people of the country and progressives of the world. This provided a firm legal guarantee for eternally keeping alive the progenitorial characteristics of Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia and preserving them as immortal flowers and celebrated flowers of praise to the great men carrying the desire of humankind in the era of independence. With the standardization of medicine production and quality control, it has become possible to meet on a high level the hygienic and safety requirements in the construction of medicine production bases, preparations for production, manufacturing processes and treatment of products. And state standards in social life such as the standards of signboards of buildings and doorplates of dwelling houses and standards in many other sectors including library information and environmental protection have been instituted. Several hundred standards have been applied to such foodstuffs as processed soy-bean, soft drinks, basic foods and such national dishes as tangogi soup, sinsollo and Pyongyang cold noodle. A lot of successes have been reported in renewing old standards in various areas to suit the present conditions. The state has examined the standards of industrial products and medicines on an overall scale and renewed, revised or supplemented them. On the other hand, it has mated the standards in many fields such as IT and basic sciences and those of quality and environmental control and food safety to international standards. Ri Ho Sop, head of the State Standardization Institute under the State Administration for Quality Management, told KCNA on the occasion of World Standard Day (October 14) that the institute would direct more efforts to continue to expand the sphere of standardization, strengthen cooperation with the International Standardization Organization and take an active part in the global standardization activities. |
